The Prostitute: Rengoku × Reader part 3
Rengoku agreed to meet you for a date, and since it was an actual date, you were excited. You were going to see a sumo wrestling match, then a play after. You were nervous since you weren't wife material. You were mean and said what was on your mind. You loved fighting and punching people in general. You were aggressive, especially when you wanted something or when you were trying to do the right thing.
"Where are you going all dressed up?" Your housemaster asked angrily.
"On a date with a client, he asked me to see a show with him and a sumo match," you explained as you paid the headmaster to go out.
You weren't going to make him pay for your "services," and he didn't know you didn't have free will to leave whenever you wanted. You told him if you two started dating, then you were paid for every other date. This one was going to be on you, so you worked extra so you could have enough money to take him out. You knew he ate a lot as well, and so did you. It was unconventional for a woman to take out a man but you weren't interested in sleeping with him so your thought process was if you didn't let him pay he wouldn't want to sleep with you. He also was not interested in sleeping with you, but just in case he thought about it.
"Well, hello. I thought we were going to meet at the Sumo match," you said as you saw Rengoku standing outside the brothel.
"What kind of gentleman would I be if I let you walk there by yourself?" He chuckled.
"You know I'm not a lady, I can take care of myself most of the time. Sure, I do admit I do need a man's help once in a while," you chuckled.
"You seem to handle yourself well. You surprised Tokito, and he's not easily surprised," he said as you hooked arms with him and started walking.
"Are you sure a fourteen-year-old boy should be carrying a sword? Look, I know he isn't stupid, but he's fourteen. It's like giving a kitchen knife to a five-year-old to me," you said.
"He is very safe with it, and you should see his skills. He is a prodigy and will be better than me. I think he already is," he smiled.
"Okay, whatever you say. By the way, I have never really been around children. Well, I mean, I have but never spent one-on-one with them for long periods. Did he have fun?" You asked.
"Yes! I had never seen him happier. You never spent time around children for that long; you seem very good with them. I'm surprised you aren't married yet. Any man would be lucky to have you," he said as you smiled.
"You know I'm not marriage material, I'm not subordinate, and I'm very aggressive. I think for myself and don't let others push me into doing what they want. I may seem nice, but I'm like a snake in the grass," you sighed.
"Just means if your husband passes, you can find a way to survive without him. It's not a bad thing. You're strong-willed, and some men like that. I am included, I do, however, like your cooking and your knowledge of different subjects," he said.
"So you are interested in smart stubborn girls, huh? Well, I might know some of those if you are interested in dating," you said.
"I'm more work-focused. Ladies are a distraction," he said as you laughed.
"Yet you are with me," you said.
"You aren't a lady you said so yourself," he smiled as you laughed.
"How dare you insult me with my own words. I'm surprised you aren't married yet, but right, work-focused. You know, oddly, we never talk about work with each other," you said.
"We know what we do, so what is there more to talk about? Work is work and boring. This is fun. Living in the now is better than living in the past. Yes, work happened yesterday, but that was yesterday. Today is a different day. Why focus on that when we can focus on this instead?" He asked as you smiled a bit.
"Living in the moment? I like that, I bet Xian will win this fight," you said.
"Bet what?" He asked.
"Another date with me," you said.
"A friend date?" He asked.
"Well, yes, of course, you know I have no intention of ever sleeping with you, right?" You asked.
"Intentions change, just making sure," he chuckled.
You bought the tickets to his surprise and the snacks. During the match, Rengoku was surprised at how invested in the fight you got. You were screaming louder than most of the men there, and some of the profanities you shouted threw him off. You were full of surprises, and by the end of the match, he fell in love with you. Once your guy won, you grabbed Rengoku and jumped up and down, screaming with excitement. There were other girls there, but none were as invested as you were. Some men looked at you confused and disgusted by your actions, but you could have cared less.
"I think I lost my voice," you laughed.
"Well, the next activity will be quiet hopefully," he said.
"Hopefully?" You asked.
"Saw some questionable men coming here while I headed over here. It's actually why I came to get you. One-on-one fighting is easy for you, but a group of more than five can pose a problem," he said.
"So you were looking out for me, that is very sweet, thank you. I never really had anyone to look after me before. I have always had to do it myself since I was little. I don't hate it, but if I had friends to back me up in some fights, then I think some things I got mixed up in would have been easier to deal with," you explained.
"Work-related or past related?" He asked.
"A bit of both," you sighed.
"Well, struggles make us who we are in a way. How we get past and overcome them can make us better people or sometimes worse. My mother died when I was young, and because of that, my father lost himself and became an alcoholic. I wanted to be a demon slayer like he was, but he told me that I would never amount to anything. Did this stop me from doing my best and becoming stronger? He still thinks I'm pretty useless, but I trained hard, and I know my worth. I never needed his approval, even though it would have been nice. My younger brother struggles to do what I do, and I told him he never had to be a demon slayer to make me happy. He had to make his path to happiness even if it makes others unhappy," he said.
"You never told me your mother passed or you had a brother," you said.
"You never asked," he smiled.
"Maybe I should have asked, I'm sorry. I never normally ask because I'm alone. I don't have anyone besides myself as far as I know. Even when I had them around, they weren't there. They favored others and never me even though I was the best in school. I was never good enough for anyone, and I got tired of it, so I left. Found out later that they all got killed. It never really occurred to me that other people had good relationships with their siblings or parents," you said.
"That's why you won't marry. You are too afraid you are going to be like your family. If you want a family, you already know what you want and what you are looking for. You won't be like your parents, I know it because even though you are aggressive at times, you showed Tokito a good time. You told him the truth even though it was hard, and you are rather good with kids. You did everything opposite of what your parents did," he explained as you walked to the play.
"I never said I didn't want to marry it's just the men I have been around all the time in my line of work; cheat on their wives with people like us. Or worse, beat their wives, you would never believe the number of things men tell me. Sooner or later, they cheat or leave or, worse, cheat and beat you into staying. Most of them have no way out of it because of children and have no work experience. I don't want to end up that way," you said.
"Not all men are like that," he said.
"You might be the only exception," you muttered.
"There are more than you realize you just have to look. You just have to find someone you are willing to spend time with romanticly and not romantically," he said.
"Easy for you to say you are optimistic, I quit that years ago," you said as you bought the tickets.
You both took your seats, and you got some drinks and full meals.
"You know I can buy dinner," he said.
"I can do it. I told you I would show you a good time," you said with a smile.
"You know one of my friends saw the letters and thought you meant to sleep with me and still thinks I'm sleeping with you because of what you say in your letters to me," he chuckled.
"Oh really, if only they knew the truth," you smiled.
The play started, and you both were quiet but ended up sitting close to each other. When it got to the dramatic part of the play, you both found your hands touching each other. You were going to pull away, but honestly, he was restoring your faith in humanity. You hated people, and you were planning on dying early, but now maybe you had more fight in you to continue to fight demons. Sure, he was killing bad people, and you were killing actual demons, but you win some, and you lose some. You were wondering why he was killing people, but now that you thought about it, maybe his mother was murdered. It made the most sense, but you also wondered why he called bad humans; demons. But deep down, you knew all humans had a dark tone to them. Evil was in everyone, but it's how they were raised and what they went through in their life that made them think it was okay to do certain things. Sometimes, people were just evil, though.
Once the play was over, you decided to finish eating your food there. You get up to stretch a bit but get smacked hard on the ass making you turn around quickly to see a drunk guy standing there.
"I would apologize to her now," Rengoku said in a cold tone that seemed more sinister than kind.
He never talked like that before, so he mentioned business, and you were heavily impressed by that.
"You! You are my favorite whore in that brothel down the street! Come here to get some more of this?!" He asked as he completely disrobed himself, making people scream in terror.
You were about to get away from him when he pinned you to the table, making Rengoku get up fast. He socked him hard in the face, making him fall back into a bunch of guys. Within seconds, the brawl started in the building. You and Rengoku had each other's back and started taking out people without actually punching them except for occasion. You grabbed Rengoku and ran out once things were getting really out of hand, making you laugh. Police started coming into the building, and you took him to an alleyway.
"I never had so much fun!" You laughed as he looked at you oddly.
"But a fight started," he said.
"Yeah, because you defended me from a drunk guy I never met. You are also a really good fighter. Thanks for the save," you said as you kissed him on the cheek.
"Have you ever thought about leaving this place?" He asked.
"I have yes, and I will once my job here is done. I'll let you know when then maybe I can help you with yours," you said.
"I don't think," he paused.
"I am not just any old whore. If I were, I would have taken you to my house to sleep with you instead of trying to figure you out," you said.
"Figure me out?" He asked.
"Well, yeah, sure, you seem simple, but you are like a sweet-smelling onion. You smell good, but you have tons of layers. Each is more surprising than the last. Want to come to my room and play Go with me?" You asked.
"I think you are the onion in this case, and I can't. I have a mission. I thought I could stop by and have some fun with you before I head out," he said.
"Well, we did have fun. I better let you go save the world one demon at a time," you smiled as he nodded.
"Send me letters," he said as he started walking away.
"I will also maybe I'll tell you I'll finish my job here," you said.
"Okay, just don't rush it!" He said as he waved goodbye.
You looked over at the building you narrowed it down to, and now you were ready to strike. All you had to do was figure out how the demon was going undetected. You went back to your room and felt something watching you making you uneasy.
"Hello?" You asked as you had your back to the wall, but suddenly the wall between you opened up, and you were sucked into the wall.
