The Heart In The Box: Kyojuro Rengoku × Reader part 7

Rengoku was trying to stay positive, but his father hurt you after you proved that you were on his side. You weren't healing right, and when he got you to the mansion, you were asleep. You were running a low fever, but it was going away. Your clothes were ruined, so he left you with the butterfly girls while he went to town for some clothes.

He was supposed to meet your parents, yet he didn't know if he should. He knew your mother and father were kind, yet somehow he felt like he hurt you. He made you go to his home. He also didn't sense the demons, which was impossible. If it wasn't for him being distracted, then maybe he would have been alright. However, he was making sure you were alright and not about to pass out. He was also enjoying how you and his brother interacted. He never felt this feeling before, and watching you made him so happy and made him wish he had a child that you could play with.

He already asked your parents if he could date you once he asked you. He didn't know if you felt the same way or if he did or if he felt like he owed you something for saving his life. But he felt like he was feeling something for you. He talked to you often, and you listened to him. He did things you liked and what he liked. He also realized why you saved his life. You didn't value your life like you valued humans because you were afraid of living forever and becoming what you killed.

He wanted to change that. You were important to people, and your kindness knew no bounds. He loved a lot of things about you, and he knew he could be a very blunt person, and it's why he had been mostly silent. He was afraid of scaring you off. He came back to the mansion and sighed weakly.

"What's wrong?" Obanai asked as he was outside with his snake.

"My father disowned me last night after the demon that tried to kill me came back. He blamed her for it even though it wasn't her fault. He was after my father; he thought I was dead. He even tried to kill her even though she saved my brother and him from former demon slayers," he said as Obanai looked shocked.

"She saved his life, and he disowned you for protecting her. You are better off without him," he said as Kyojuro smiled.

"He found out who her mother was, and it made him angry that she chose a demon over him. Also, may I ask you a question?" He asked.

"I don't see why not," he said as he sat down in the grass.

"I want to ask Y/n on a date, but she is complicated. She won't date anyone, however, due to her demon blood. There is a cure in progress, but I don't know if it will take her powers away or not. It may end up killing her because she was born a half-demon. I want to give her the life she wants, but her life is dying as a demon slayer or by sunlight when she no longer can fight demons," he said as Obanai looked at him, surprised.

"I'm surprised you haven't told her yet. You are a very blunt person," he said.

"I have been working on it, I almost said something when she was wearing Mitsuri's clothes. It wasn't because she was wearing her clothing but the fact she panicked seeing how revealing they were on her. She was very embarrassed even though she looked great, and I told her, so she still wanted to be herself rather than someone else," he said.

"I would tell her before it's too late. We don't live long enough for a happy ending. If we do, we lose it in some way. Your father lost his wife and thinks you got corrupted by a demon. Her mother can't walk anymore, most of our families are gone because of demons or sickness. You should tell her before she goes. You already know how far she was willing to go to die protecting a person she had just met. Whether bad or not, she is a demon slayer who values human life above all else. She will die a demon slayer's death, not a demon's death," he said as he had a letter for Mitsuri in his hands.

"I wanted long enough. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't eat in public. I still don't. But she makes everything much brighter. I would go through the pain again if it meant I get to see her in my next life, " he said as he got up and left.

With those words, he went to find you, but to his horror and surprise, you weren't in your box.

"Y/n?" He asked, shocked, and worry started to set in.

He went to look for you, but he couldn't find you anywhere, making him think you went outside because your demon abilities overpowered you again. Finally, he ripped open the bathhouse that was inside and was blacked out for you to see.

"Close the door!" You yelled as you threw Rengoku's clothes at him.

"I get you never grew up with sisters, but I'm very different than men," you pointed out as he looked at his clothes.

"You are going to wear my clothes again?" He asked.

"The girls were going to get me some clothes, but they said you were going out for something, probably clothes, but I needed to clean up. I am going to have to get clothes anyway because I'm going to see my parents in a couple of days. It will take like two days to get there," you said as he nodded.

"Right, we were supposed to leave today. Why don't we stay here for a bit?" He asked as you looked at him oddly.

"Look, we have to go. I already said I was going to be there, so I am going to be there. Yes, I got hurt, but I'm fine now. It just takes me longer to heal since I'm half-human," you explained as you were trying to stay covered up.

"Yes, that seems to be the case. I brought you some clothes," he said as he put them close to you.

"Also flowers, as an apology for my father's behalf," he said as you gave you the flowers.

You were shocked he even got you anything because you were just going to buy clothes for yourself tonight.

"Thank you, you didn't have to," you said as he smiled at you.

"It's the least I can do for you after all the things you have done for me and my family, even if my father doesn't appreciate it. I do, and so does my brother," he said as you smiled.

"Thank you, I never got flowers before except for my parents," you said with a bright smile, "can you leave now so I can change? Please?"

"Yes, I can see you in a few minutes," he said as he closed the door.

He didn't know what came over him, but he wanted to tell you that he loved you at this very moment. He remembered on the train that he was kissed by someone. He felt it, and he knew it had to be you trying to wake him up. It didn't work, but he did wake up eventually. Since you kissed him, he hadn't been the same. He couldn't look at you the same, and he didn't know if he fell in love with your strength or your food first.

It wasn't hard for him to sense that you were a demon, and maybe he fell in love with you the first moment he saw you.

"Okay, I'm ready," you said as you came out of the bathhouse, and he smiled.

"Do you still want to see your parents?" He asked as you nodded.

"Yeah, I told them I would be by. I have to go. I haven't seen them in months," you said as he nodded in agreement.

"Alright, we can pack some food and leave," he said as you smiled.

The three younger boys went along with you, and Rengoku was carrying you during the daytime hours. On the second night, your mother was waiting for you in her wheelchair while your father was nowhere to be seen.

"Hello! Welcome to the village! I know your father. It's hard not to see him when you look just like him. How are your mother and father doing?" She asked.

"My mother passed away when I was small; my father is doing well. Thank you," Kyojuro said as she smiled apologetically.

"I'm sorry about that, Kyojuro. You also brought Inosuke, Tanjiro, and Zenitsu with you. That's great! Where is Nezuko at?" Your mother asked, worried.

"You know about my sister?" Tanjiro asked.

"Yes, y/n tells me everything. I'm married to a demon, and my daughter is a half-demon. Being a demon around here means nothing unless you are killing humans," your mother said as your father came with some animals that he killed and were hanging over his shoulder while attached to some rope.

"Hello, nice to meet you all," your father smiled as Zenitsu screamed in terror.

Your father had horns, dark red skin, and yellow eyes. He was seven feet tall with claws that were as sharp as daggers. He had fangs like an animal, but your father was a very gentle man even if he didn't look like it.

"Zenitsu!" Tanjiro said.

"It's alright. I get it. Is anyone hungry?" He asked.

"Me!" Inosuke yelled.

"Great! I will make dinner then. You all must tell me about your travels. I don't leave the village anymore, mostly because demon slayers will go after me if they don't know who I am. Y/n tells me you are a single man, Kyojuro. Why haven't you dated anyone?" He asked, "You are very kind from what my daughter tells me, and you have a good head on your shoulders."

"Dad!" You said as he chuckled.

"Oh y/n, I'm just asking. You are single as well, and I have been noticing how sad you look when you look at babies," he said.

"I can't have kids dad, you found someone willing to look past being a demon, and I won't. Regular humans wouldn't understand, and I don't want to have to lie to them. It's not fair to them, and you can't build a family on lies," you said.

"That is true, but don't say you won't find anyone, I know you will be loved by someone," your mother said.

Once you got closer to home, children swarmed you, and you played with them for a bit while heading home for the night. They gave you several gifts and asked Rengoku if he was your boyfriend several times, then asked why he wasn't. They asked the other demon slayers as well embarrassing them because they kept asking personal questions.

Once you got home, you decided to help your parents with dinner while Rengoku was distracting you. You loved it, and you loved him with all your heart, but you were never going to tell him that. You were a demon, and you didn't want to outlive Rengoku or your children. You loved his brother like he was your brother, but you weren't going to get your happy ending. You wished you were human, but you were never going to get that wish.

Your parents knew you liked him, but you were adamant about him needing someone human. Your parents were trying to make sure you both were happy by being together, but you both were terrified of admitting your feelings, and your life span was getting in the way of your happiness as well.

"So you fought the demon that killed your brothers and sisters?" Your father asked after you started talking about the demons you had fought.

"Yes, we did," you said as you looked at Rengoku.

"I. I need a moment," your father said as he left the table, making you get up to comfort him.

"You two defeated the demon?" Tanjiro asked, shocked.

"Yes, there were several others, but she took care of the weaker ones mostly. If it wasn't for her, then my brother would have died," he said with a smile as a crow could be heard upstairs.

"Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke! Mission!" The crow yelled as you came out with your father.

"I think I should go with them to make sure things go smoothly. I know they can do it but with two increases in demon attacks they might need some extra help," you smiled as Rengoku was going to tell you no because of how badly you were hurt yesterday but he knew you could care less about that.

"Are you sure you want to go?" He asked as you nodded.

"Yeah, I can come back here in a week and visit more. Plus, nothing stops demons from attacking. Might as well keep fighting," you said as you got out of your box.

"Bye dad, bye mom I love you! See you in a week and Rengoku see you at the mansion I'll be back as soon as I can and I'll make my famous egg rolls for you," you said as he smiled but it wasn't a real smile it was a worried smile. He had a really bad feeling about this and he couldn't shake the feeling that you weren't going to make it back and yet he couldn't say I love you to you even though he wanted to.
