Forest Gifts: Inosuke × reader part 4
Over the next couple of months, you and Inosuke trained in the art of combat. You were horrible at it at first, but Inosuke insisted you learned how to fight. You taught him how to fish with a spear even though he seemed to have done it before. He just couldn't remember when or where he learned it. You taught him some recipes he seemed to like and also you made him some clothes which he liked. It seemed like the old version of him was gone permanently, which made you sad because he seemed nice and you just wanted the best for him. You two also got a lot closer over the months. You two went to town as often as you two could just explore and also eat since Inosuke has a massive appetite. Inosuke was still crazy but it was better than him forgetting your name on purpose when you two first met and then making up a name for you. He seemed to mellow out, but you didn't mind his crazy antics from time to time.
Today, you were on call helping people around the village with your father and your mother, so Inosuke took care of your brother and the house while you were all gone for the day. Inosuke was still against going into the woods alone, but he was trying to overcome it. He decided he was going to make dinner for you also you bothered going to eat outside. It was supposed to be a clear night, and you loved star-gazing.
You came back earlier than expected, and when you went inside, Inosuke jumped out of his skin in shock.
"Sorry, I came back early. My parents didn't need me around anymore," you said as Steven hugged you.
"It's fine..." he said even though he made plans to be with you alone for a bit.
He could tell you were tired, so he decided to change his plans a little. He made some food for you and your brother, but your brother wanted to eat alone so he could read a medical journal.
"I guess it's just us," Inosuke said as you smiled a bit.
"I guess it is. It's so weird he is grown up enough to read that now," you said as he smiled a little.
"Do you want to eat outside? It's a nice day out," he said as you nodded.
"Sure, why not," you said as he grabbed a blank and laid it outside about twenty feet from the house. The sun was starting to set, but they still had time left before it did. He still didn't trust the woods after dark, but he was trying to get over it.
He sat on the blanket, watching the woods yet again while you were eating. He looked over at you and decided to put his plan into action. He already asked your parents if it was okay for him to date you, and he was thankful that they said yes. But at the same time, he didn't know what his real name was or even if he had other feelings for someone else. He could have had an arranged marriage in place as well, but he didn't care about it or see how he could with his odd behavior.
You embraced it and found ways to calm him down mostly with food and touching his bare skin. He didn't know if it was because he liked you or if it was because he was just weird, but whatever you did, it seemed to work. He loved you a lot and wished he could just tell you rather than just ignore it.
"Hey Y/n," Inosuke said as you looked at him
"Yes, Forest," you said as you looked at some of the plants and realized you should gather some more for medicine.
A crow flew next to you, making you smile.
"Hi there! I'm sorry, but my food isn't fit for crows. I'm afraid. Rice hurts birds like you," you said as you heard the bushes rustle, making Forest get up immediately.
"Y/n, get in the house now!" He yelled as you looked at him oddly for a second until you saw a guy with a box fall onto the ground and a boy with yellow hair panicking over a tree branch being stuck in his hair.
"Get it out! It's trying to kill me!" He yelled, making you look at the yellow-haired boy full of confusion.
"It's a stick.." You stated as the boy with the box looked at you both with tears in his eyes.
"Y/n, go in the house now," Inosuke said as you saw the way the boy with the box looked at him.
"Inosuke!" He screamed, making Inosuke look at him like he was stupid.
"That isn't my name! It's Forest! I don't know what you are doing here, but I am not letting you touch her. Do you understand me?!" He asked as the boy with the box looked at him, shocked and confused.
"Inosuke, it's me, Tanjiro! Me and I have been looking for you for three months now! We thought you were dead, your cow said you died, but no one found your body," Tanjiro said as you quickly got up and kept Inosuke from fighting him.
"Forest, please just hear them out, I think they are telling the truth," you said as he looked down at you.
"I don't remember them at all! If I did, it would mean they were important to me. Well, I don't, so they aren't. Go inside before they hurt you," he said, making Tanjiro realize he lost his memory and was oddly enough attached to you.
"Why doesn't he remember us?" Zenitsu asked.
"He must have been badly wounded she must have taken care of him. Zenitsu, I'm not sure if he remembers how to fight, but his body sure will. I'm going to make it seem like I'm here to kill to kill her. If I can head butt him hard enough, maybe he will come back to his senses," Tanjiro said as Zenitsu looked at him terrified.
"You are going to fight him?! That's not a good idea," Zenitsu said terrified.
"I have to for him," he said as he saw Inosuke trying to get you to go inside, but you were too stubborn.
"You were right not to trust me, I'm not your friend, but here to that girl," he lied, making you raise an eyebrow.
"Please go inside," he said.
"He's lying. I can tell when people are lying! Have I ever been wrong before?" You asked as Inosuke turned around only to be headed butted by Tanjiro hard.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" You screamed as you kicked him in the nuts hard, then went to Inosuke, who was lying on the ground, dazed.
"Forest! Forest! You idiots he had a bad head injury, and he was badly wounded when I found him. Stay away from him, or I'll teach you a lesson you will never forget!" You growled as you were cleaning the blood off his forehead.
"Oww," Tanjiro said as his whole body felt numb and tangled.
"Forest?" You asked as his head was in your lap, and he looked at you oddly.
"Ahhhh!" He screamed as he was ready to fight Tanjiro, but you quickly tackled him.
"Will you stop this already? I thought this was just a faze!" You yelled as he was trying to fight the two other boys.
"Why did you do that, Tanjiro? Do you think you can defeat me in a battle?!" He asked as he paused, then stopped resisting you.
He turned to look at you and realized the entire time he was here was because of a demon. He was protecting you from them, and that was why he didn't want you to go into the woods without him at night. He knew what was out there while you didn't believe in demons or monsters.
"Inosuke!" Tanjiro said as he ran up to him from behind and hugged him.
"We thought you were dead, and we would never see you again! What happened to you?" Tanjiro asked as Inosuke's heart broke.
He was going to have to leave you. His line of work was too dangerous, and worst of all if you were around him, he would take unnecessary risks. He felt his whole world crumbling as he realized he could no longer be with you.
"The wild animal I was hunting hurt me badly," he lied as Tanjiro realized what he was doing, but Zenitsu was rather slow in making the connection.
"So you hunt dangerous animals that attack other villages that make sense now. But why the swords, though?" You asked.
"Well.... swords are lightweight and longer. Sometimes we come across dangerous people too," Inosuke said, making you smile.
"Really? That's cool. Mom! Look, Forest's friends found him, he hunts animals that attack people also he is like a bounty hunter," you said as your mother looked rather shocked since they just arrived home.
"You three are bounty hunters?" Your mother asked as your father smiled.
"That's why you had boar head and pants. It's one of your kills. Makes perfect sense now. Would you three like to join us for dinner and spend the night? It would be any trouble, and it will get you three caught up with each other," your father said.
"We should really..." Tanjiro stopped seeing the look of pure sadness written on his face.
"Yeah, we can stay," Tanjiro said.
"We are supposed to bring him back for a check-up also to see if he is alive, remember?" Zenitsu said.
"He is attached to her look at him. This will give him a chance to say goodbye to her," Tanjiro said as you were hugging Inosuke tightly in your arms while he was hugging you back but with the look of pure sadness written on his face.
He wished he never got his memory back.
