The Boy Born With Nothing

With the two L/n cousins, they're seen standing together in an empty hallway. Gwen leaned on one side and Y/n leaned on the other. She had her eyes narrowed at her cousin.

"So... here we are," Y/n said.

"Yeah," Gwen nodded. "Now spill it."

Y/n sighed as he took a moment to think about what he was going to say. He knew it would be hard to believe, but he had no choice. Gwen knew whatever he had wasn't a Quirk, so he had to confess. There was no other option.

"Okay, I know this is gonna sound weird, but it's true," Y/n lifted up up arm to show his watch. "You're right, this isn't some Quirk. It's a watch from outer space."

Gwen simply blinked in surprise. Then she laughed.

"What's so funny?" the watch bearer asked. "It's the truth!"

"Oh, I know it is," Gwen wiped away a tear. "I was just expecting some super bogus answer, like you made it or something."

"That's insulting to my intelligence," Y/n crossed his arms.

"What intelligence?" his cousin grinned. "Wait, sorry. Not the time. How did you find it?"

"It was in this weird space pod where a dead alien was in the forest behind my house," Y/n stated. "It just jumped up onto my arm and stayed there. It won't come off either."

"Weird..." the energy manipulator rubs her chin in thought. "Who else knows about it?"

"Other than us? My mom and Shinso," the alien shapeshifter says.

"You haven't told the school?" Gwen questioned. "Or the authorities?"

"What? No! Are you crazy?" Y/n asked his cousin. "If anyone else finds out about this thing, it can be real trouble."

"How so?"

"'Cause the night I found it, these weird robots nearly killed me, Mom, and Shinso. And there was this bigger robot that nearly destroyed my neighborhood," Y/n explains. "It means someone's after the watch, and if they're willing to hurt innocent people, I won't let them have it."

Gwen looked at her cousin in shock. She's never seen the kind of shine in his eyes that he does now. But then her cousin spoke again.

"But... there's another reason, too," Y/n looks at his watch. "This watch... I've only had it for two weeks and it feels like it's a part of me. If the authorities find out about it, they may try to take it away. They might even succeed." The General Studies student takes in a breath. "This watch makes me feel special, Gwen. More special than I ever had in my entire life. If it gets taken away... I don't know what I'll do."

"Y/n..." Gwen uncrossed her arms as she looked at her cousin. "Look, I know I pick at you a lot, but that doesn't mean I think low of you. You're just as--"

"If you're gonna say that I'm as special as anyone else, then you can stop. Mom's used that one on me before, and we all know it isn't true," the watch bearer cuts his cousin off. "This world is full of people hundreds of times more special than me. They all have something to be proud of, like their Quirk. Look at you! You're Quirk is amazing! I was supposed to get one, too, but..."

Y/n sniffles a bit as he recalled that fateful day when he was five. Gwen remembered it, too. She was there, after all.

Ten Years Ago...

Inside a doctor's office, Y/n can be seen with his uncle and cousin. M/n was at her job, so she had asked her brother-in-law to take him for a check-up. Y/n hasn't been showing any signs of having a Quirk, and she wanted to know why.

"I'm sorry, but it's not going to happen anytime soon," the doctor told the young Y/n.

"Wh-what?" he asked in shock.

"What do you mean, Doc?" Uncle U/n (uncle's name) asks.

"Are you familiar with the theory that Quirks are associated with the joins in the pinky toe?" the doctor asked.

"Yeah, I am," U/n nodded.

"Good," the doctor says. "Take a look at this."

The doctor reached into a folder and took out a piece of paper. Handing it to Y/n's uncle, U/n looked at it. It was an x-ray of his nephew's foot. The pinky toe had only one joint.

"I'll be real simple about this. After time, all creatures evolve o grow overtime to become better. The human body has done that as well, with Quirks and whatnot. Now if the pinky toe has two joints, the theory states that the person wouldn't attain any type of Quirk. They'd be Quirkless," the doctor explained. "The body wouldn't have what it didn't need, so it makes itself more 'streamline' in a sense. Your nephew here has one joint, but oddly enough doesn't possess a Quirk of his own, yes?"

"Y-yeah. That's right," U/n started to have an idea on what was going on. So did his daughter and nephew.

"Tell me, what are the Quirks in your family?"

"O-oh. Well, uh, it's kind a complicated. Our Quirks kinda skip a generation, so while I was Quirkless, my daughter here got the Quirk my mother had. They can manipulate 'mana' or something like energy," U/n explained, motioning to Gwen. "My brother was also Quirkless since my dad was as well, and Y/n's mother here has a very simple Quirk. It's like having actual thick skin. We all thought Y/n would get a Quirk as well."

U/n looked over at his nephew who sat next to him. He was silent, clenching a comic book tightly in his hands. Gwen was looking at him in concern.

"Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case," U/n sighed.

"Yes. It is rather unusual for someone with one joint to have no Quirk, but in a world like ours, unusual has overtaken the usual," the doctor looks over at Y/n. "I'm sorry, son, but you won't be developing a Quirk anytime soon."

Present Time...

Gwen looked down as she remember that day. Y/n had shut himself into his room all day. He didn't want to talk to anyone. He didn't want to joke around or play games. And he certainly didn't want to go to school. But he did anyway, and everyone talked about him. He was the only one in his class, maybe even in the grade, to have no Quirk. He was an outcast. A zero.

"We were both born with the promise of power, but only you got it. I had nothing until I found this watch," Y/n wiped away the tears in his eyes. "Now I am something. I'm someone, and I can help people better than I ever could before."

Gwen looked up at her cousin to see the determined look on his face. He brought his arm up again to show off the watch.

"So that's what I'll do," Y/n announced. "I'll become be a Hero."

Gwen stared at her cousin for a moment in shock. She's never heard something so genuine from him before. She couldn't help but admire it for a moment. Then she smiled.

"Alright," she said.

"What?" Y/n questioned.

"You convinced me. I'll help you become that Hero you want to be," Gwen smirked. "Dweeb."

Y/n took a moment to process what he heard. Then he lowered his arm as he smiled.

"That wasn't my goal, but okay," he chuckled a bit. "I, uh... I appreciate it... dork."

"Yep. Saw that coming a mile away," Gwen chuckled a bit. "Now, come on. Let's get something to eat. You gotta introduce me to your new friends."

She began to walk off. Her cousin followed her.

"They're not really my friends, but sure," Y/n smiled. "I've yet to be properly be introduced to them myself, anyway."

Gwen laughed a bit as the two cousins walk together to the cafeteria.

"Oh, it's fun to hang with you again, pizza face," she said.

"And I immediately regret this," Y/n grinned, "Geekzilla."

The hour-long break was finally over. The stands were roaring with the fans awaiting for the final round.

"WELCOME BACK, SPORTS FANS! IT'S ALMOST TIME FOR THE LAST ROUND!" Present Mic announced. "BUT BEFORE THAT, GOOD NEWS FOR EVERYONE WHO DIDN'T MAKE TBE FINALS! SINCE THIS IS A SPORTS FESTIVAL, WE'VE PREPARED SOME SUPER-FUN SIDE GAMES EVERYONE CAN PARTICIPATE IN! WE EVEN BROUGHT IN CHEERLEADERS FROM AMERICA TO GET YOUR BLOOD PUMPING!"

Y/n was shocked when he heard this. So he turned to find that Present Mic was telling the truth. There were actually beautiful American cheerleaders there! Then he saw something else.

"What in the...?" he questioned.

"Hm?" Shinso turned to where his friend was looking. "Huh?!"

"What are they doing?" Erasure Head asked.

Y/n and Shinso couldn't believe their eyes! All of Class 1A's girls were in cheerleader uniforms! And they all looked like they wanted to die.

"LOOKS LIKE CLASS 1A IS GOIN' FULL FAN SERVICE!" Present Mic announced.

Y/n heard laughter nearby and turned to see Kaminari and Mineta giving each other a thumbs up. The watch bearer immediately became irritated.

"What?! You two tricked us?!" Yaoyorozu was enraged. "You're gonna regret this!"

"Oh, they will," Y/n said as he slowly reached for his watch.

Mineta and Kaminari immediately felt the General Studies student's intense aura and turned to him. They saw him activate his watch and they immediately became fearful. However, Shinso stopped his friend before he could do something stupid.

"Calm down," he says. "Let's not do something brash."

Y/n sighed and deactivated the watch. "Fine..."

"Let's just do those stupid side games for now," Shinso said. "Let off a little steam and whatnot."

"Yeah, sure," Y/n nodded and smiled. "Sounds fun."

Mineta and Kaminari escaped with their lives that day.

"I HOPE YOU STUDENTS HAVE FUN WITH THE LITTLE SIDE GAMES, BECAUSE WHEN THEY'RE OVER, THE SIXTEEN STUDENTS FROM THE TOP FOUR TEAMS WILL BE DUKING IT OUT ONE-ON-ONE IN A TOURNAMENT-STYLE FIGHTING COMPETITION!" Present Mic declared. "I PROMISE YOU'RE NOT GONNA WANT TO MISS THESE EPIC MATCH UPS!"

"Aw, yeah. Time to show what we're made of," Kirishima smiles nearby. "I watch these finals every year, and now I'm actually in them!"

"Does it always have to be a tournament?" Shinso asks. "Can't it be something different this year? More original?"

"Come on, Shinso," Y/n grinned excitedly, "we both know it's UA tradition for the final round of the Sports Festival to be a tournament!"

"Yeah! Last year was a foam sword fight, right?" Sero asked.

"Yeah! It was hilarious," the General Studies student laughed.

"You're such a dweeb..." Gwen mumbled under her breath.

Midnight held up a box labeled "Lots". "Come closer and draw lots to see who you're up against. Then enjoy the pleasure of the recreational games before we start. Ths sixteen finalists have a choice in participating in those activities or sitting out to prepare for battle. I'm sure you all want to conserve your stamina. I'll start with the first place team!"

Midnight began to walk forward. However, a Class 1A student with a large tail put his hand out.

"Um, excuse me. Sorry," he says. "I'd like to withdraw."

Everyone gasped when they heard this and turned to the teen.

"Ojiro, no way!" Midoriya called out.

"But this is a rare chance for you to get scouted," Iida states.

"It just wouldn't be right," Ojiro puts in hand down. "I barely remember anything from the calvary battle until the very end of it."

Y/n turned to Shinso. "You brainwashed him, didn't you?"

"Maybe," Shinso grinned misheviously.

"I know this is a great opportunity," Ojiro went on. "I wish I could take advantage of it, but my conscience won't let me."

"Just think about this, okay?" Midoriya tells his classmate.

"I have, okay?" the blonde exclaims. "Everyone gave their all in round two, but I was someone's puppet. No way. I don't want to advance if I don't even know how I got here. It wouldn't be fair."

"You're making way too much of this!" Hagakure tells her classmate. "Just kill it in the finals and prove you should be here."

"Yeah, what she said," Ashido agrees. "I didn't do much in the battle, either."

Ojiro immediately grew frustrated.

"That's not it. I'm talking about my pride here," he states. "I refuse to give that up."

Y/n looked at Shinso's former brainwashed teammate. He imagined himself in Ojiro's shoes, and he would be mad as well if he was brainwashed. If he was, he wouldn't feel like he truly earned what he got.

"Also, why are all the girls dressed like cheerleaders?"

Immediately, all Class 1A girls lowered their heads.

(Bro, the way he said it in the show was so damn funny)

Another student stepped forward. "Nirengeki Shoda from Class 1B. I think I should withdraw for the exact same reason." Shoda clenches his fist. "Regarfless of how strong I am, this isn't how I wanted to get here. It would go against the values of the Festival to advance without earning my spot."

Kirishima was close to crying. "Listen to these guys... They're so manly!"

"HEY, NOW. HERE'S ANOTHER WEIRD TURN OF EVENTS," Present Mic said.

"We'll have to see what Midnight has to say about all this," Erasure Head states. "She's the one in charge."

The field was silent as everyone awaited Midnight's response. However, they soon got it.

"This sort of talk is incredibly naive, my boys," Midnight states before smiling. "THAT TURNS ME ON! Shoda! Ojiro! You are officially withdrawn!"

'I'm sorry, excuse me?' Y/n immediately became confused. 'Did she say what I think she just said?'

"You gotta be kidding me..." Shinso mutters.

"Okay, now that's something you don't hear everyday," Gwen states.

"Now let's see," Midnight returns to "normal". "We'll have to move up two students from the fifth-place calvary team so we have enough contestants."

"We were frozen most of the time. Honestly, we barely did anything in the calvary battle," the orange-haired girl from earlier states. "Isn't that right, girls?"

Her teammates all agree with her as they nod.

"You should choose from the group that kept fighting the whole time," the 1B student turns back to Midnight. "Team Tetsutestsu."

"Uh! Kendo!" Tetsutestsu said in shock.

"I'm not doing this as a favor. It's just fair," the girl called Kendo tells her classmate.

"Seriously, you guys!" Tetsutestsu was close to crying. "Thank you!"

And so, Tetsutestsu and a girl called Ibara Shiozaki took the place of Ojiro and Shoda. Everyone then drew the lots and soon returned to the field. Midnight then brought the screen back up.

"Pay attention, my dears!" she calls out. "These are your opponents!"

The crowd cheers as the tournament bracket showed up.

Tetsutestsu Tetsutestsu vs. Ejiro Kirishima

"Seriously?!" the two question. "How does this keep happening?!"

Y/n L/n vs. Gwen L/n

"Would you look at that," Gwen smirked at her cousin. "Looks like we'll be fighting each other after all."

"Oh, you're so going down, geek," Y/n told his cousin.

Mina Ashido vs. Yuga Aoyama

"Ma cherie. I'm afraid it's the end of the road for you," Aoyama winks at his opponent.

"I'm gonna melt your butt!" Ashido exclaims.

The rest are as follows:
Izuku Midoriya vs. Hitoshi Shinso
Shoto Todoroki vs. Hanta Sero
Denki Kaminari vs. Ibara Shiozaki
Mei Hatsume vs. Tenya Iida
Katsuki Bakugou vs. Ochaco Uraraka

"That's you, right? Izuku Midoriya?" Shinso asks Midoriya. "My friend was on your team. It's a pleasure to meet you. Excited for our fight?"

Midoriya immediately tenses up at the General Studies student's sudden arrival. He turns to him to say something, but Y/n pulls his friend away first and Ojiro covers his classmate's mouth with his tail.

"Not so fast," Ojiro says.

"L/n, come on!" Shinso complains.

"Wait until the fight, Braindrain," Y/n tells his friend.

"Whatever..." Shinso clicks his teeth.

Todoroki looked up at the bracket. He realized if Midoriya won his match, the two would fight. The dual-Quirk user hoped for that.

"Uraraka?" Bakugou looked at his opponent's name. "Who the hell's that?"

Uraraka jumped and looked at Bakugou in fear as she realized he was her opponent.

"Hey, legs," Hatsume approached her opponent. "You're Iida, right?"

"Correct," Iida nodded. "I'm Tenya Iida."

"That's perfect!" Hatsume smiles. "I have something nice for you!"

Soon enough, the recreational games began so the competitors could cool off before the real games began. First was a scavenger hunt. Everyone who participated was given a card telling them the item they needed to retrieve. While most got there's, some were stumped. Y/n was one of them.

"How in the world do I get this?" he scratched his head.

"Hey, L/n!" Y/n turned to see Hatsume approach him. "What item did you get?"

"Oh, uh..."

The General Studies student showed the Support Course student his card. The pink-headed girl looked at it for a moment before laughing.

"How in the world would you get this?" she asked.

"I know, right?" Y/n laughed with her.

The next game was one where a group of three to four were supposed to roll a giant ball down a track. Y/n made it to third place with Shinso, Hatsume, and Gwen. It was a blast for all of them. However, before any of the competitors realized it, the finals had arrived. It was time for the long awaited tournament!

"HEY, SPORTS FANS! ARE YA READY!?" Present Mic asked the roaring crowd. "AFTER ALL THE ACTION YOU ALREADY WITNESSED, IT'S TIME FOR THE REAL BATTLES TO BEGIN! CAN YOU FEEL THE EXCITEMENT? OUR COMPETITORS ARE ON THEIR OWN NOW!"

Y/n sat comfortably in his class's reserved place in the stands. He sat next to an empty seat where Shinso would be sitting once he was done with his fight with Midoriya.

"SOMETIMES, HEROES HAVE THEMSELVES TO RELY ON! HEART. STRENGTH. SKILL. WISDOM. COURAGE," Present Mic listed off character traits for Heroes. "THEY'LL NEED ALL OF THESE TO RISE TO THE TOP!"

Y/n grinned as he crossed his arms. "You got this, Shinso."

Fire suddenly erupted from the corners of the arena made by the Pro Hero Cementoss. The crowd cheers as the big screen showed Midoriya and Shinso.

"ALRIGHT! LET'S CUT TO THE GOOD STUFF AND NOT DELAY THESE FINALS ANY LONGER! WELCOME OUR FIRST FIGHTERS!" Present Mic started as Midoriya and Shinso walked up to the arena. "WHOA, HE LOOKS KINDA SCARED IN THAT PICTURE, DOESN'T HE? IT'S IZUKU MIDORIYA FROM THE HERO COURSE VERSUS... HITOSHI SHINSO FROM GENERAL STUDIES, WHO HASN'T REALLY DONE ANYTHING TO STAND OUT YET."

The two competitors approached the arena as Y/n couldn't help but feel excited.

"THE RULES ARE SIMPLE! IMMOBILIZE YOUR OPPONENT OR FORCE THEM OUT THE RING! YOU CAN ALSO WIN BY GETTING THE OTHER TO SCREAM UNCLE!" Present Mic announced. "BRING ON THE INJURIES, BECAUSE WE'VE GOT OUR VERY OWN RECOVERY GIRL WAITING ON STANDBY! SO PUT YOUR MORALS ASIDE AND DON'T BE AFRAID TO PLAY DIRTY! BUT PLEASE, NO LIFE THREATENING CRAP, FOLKS. IT'S NOT ALLOWED! REAL HEROES USE THEIR POWERS TO PUT VILLAINS IN JAIL, NOT KILL THEM!"

Shinso and Midoriya looked at each other as they stood on either side of the fight ring. Midoriya was warned earlier about his opponent's possible Quirk, and Y/n had told Shinso about the crazy pressure he felt when Midoriya used his Quirk. Both would have to be careful in this fight.

Y/n then noticed that his friend was moving his mouth, but he couldn't hear what he was saying due to the distance. Was he talking to Midoriya? If so, his plan to get the 1A student to fall under his brainwashing was probably going to work.

"READY?" the radio show host asks. "BEGIN!"

Midoriya suddenly began running at Shinso, but he soon stopped. Shinso smirked. Y/n immediately knew then and there that his friend had won that fight.

"HUH?! HEY, HEY, WHAT'S THE DEALIO?" Present Mic asked. "THIS IS THE FIRST MATCH! IT SHOULD START OFF WITH A BANG! THE FIGHT HAS JUST BEGUN, AND IS IZUKU MIDORIYA IS... COMPLETELY FROZEN!"

Y/n looked up at the other side of the stands. He could see the Ojiro guy on his feet with hands on his head. He was probably worried about his classmate.

"HE'S NOT MOVING A MUSCLE! AND WHAT'S WITH THAT LOOK ON HIS FACE?" the Voice Hero questions. "COULD THIS BE A QUIRK AT WORK? HITSOHI SHINSO SEEMS TO HAVE IZUKU MIDORIYA COMPLETELY STUNNED!"

The two just stood there as Midoriya awaited a command.

"HE DIDN'T STAND OUT MUCH AT FIRST, BUT IT'S POSSIBLE SHINSO'S CRAZY POWERFUL!" Present Mic declared. "WHO COULD'VE IMAGINED THESE TURN OF EVENTS?! THAT'S THE SPORTS FESTIVAL FOR YA! AHAHAHAHA!!!"

"This is a perfect example of why the entrance exam isn't rational," Erasure Head spoke up.

"HUH? WHY'S THAT?" Present Mic asked his friend.

"Since we're on the individual matches, I had some information compiled about our final competitors," the Erasure Hero admits, looking at the papers for both Midoriya and Shinso. "Shinso failed the practical exam to get into the Hero Course. Since he also applied for General Studies, he probably figured that would happen. His Quirk is incredibly strong, but that entrance exam consisted of fighting faux Villains. Robots. It gave a huge advantage to those who had physical superpowers that could show off. Despite his abilities, Shinso never stood a chance at passing."

Y/n sighs at this. Erasure Head didn't need to tell the whole world Shinso's business, but it doesn't matter now. He had to pay attention to the fight.

Shinso started saying something to Midoriya who then turned around and begun walking the other way. Right in the direction of the boundaries.

"HUH? AH! MIDORIYA'S OBEYING HIM!"

"Yep," Y/n chuckled a bit. "He's got this in the bag."

[‐‐‐‐]

Y/n: "My best buddy, Hitoshi Shinso! Quirk: Brainwashing. When someone responds to him, it flips a little switch in their heads and makes them do whatever he says. But not all the time, of course. That'd be difficult to manage. It's only when he wills it!"

Shinso: "You do know that this is only until my fight's done, right? I'm going to get my job back after."

Y/n: *sadly* "I know..."

[‐‐‐‐]

Present Mic was commentating the fight, but Y/n didn't listen all that much. He didn't need to. It wasn't going to be a fight anyways.

Y/n knew his friend has always had trouble with people believe he could be a Hero. With a Quirk like Shinso's, most would most definitely use it to do some bad. However, Hitoshi Shinso wasn't like that. He was determined to become a Hero, just like so many others. That's why Y/n admired him so much, even if he did poked fun at him.

What alien should Y/n turn into for his fight with Gwen?

*BOOOOOM!!*

"Whoa, what was that?!" Y/n asked as his focus returned to the fight.

Back down at the ring, he noticed Shinso looked shocked and angry. Dust and dirt surrounded Midoriya like clouds as he held his hand, seemingly in pain and out of Shinso's brainwashing. He was right at the edge of the boundaries, too!

Y/n then looked closely at the greenette and saw that two of his fingers were damaged. Was that the drawback to Midoriya's power? Y/n didn't know much about it, but if it could snap him from Shinso's spell, then it must've been super strong! Did he know that physical force broke the brainwashing?

Shinso said something to Midoriya and the greenette covered his mouth, careful not to talk. He then rushed at his opponent and started pushing Shinso towards the out-of-bounds, but he wasn't having any of that. The indigo-haired teenager tried to stop his opponent, angry yelling at him as he punched Midoriya in the face. However, it didn't stop him.

So Shinso hit his opponent's broken fingers and started pushing Midoriya to the out-of-bounds instead. However, Midoriya did something no one expected. He grabbed Shinso by the arm and flipped him over, slamming him into the ground right outside the boundary lines!

"Shinso is out of bounds!" Midnight announces. "Midoriya advances to the next match!"

Everyone stared in shock for a solid ten, maybe fifteen, seconds. Then the crowd cheered at the victory of Izuku Midoriya.

Three Years Ago...

In Nabooh City Middle School, Y/n sat in his desk two seats behind some guy with purple hair. However, he then noticed some students walking up to him talking about his Quirk.

"Whoa! Your Quirk is brainwashing?" one asked. "That's so cool!"

"Seriously! I can't think of anyone who's had that power," a second student states.

"I'm so jealous, Shinso," a girl walked forward.

"Imagine all the cool stuff you could do controlling people," the first student tells the boy called Shinso.

"Yeah, you could do any bad thing you want!" the second student exclaimed.

"And no one would ever know it was you," the third student states. "Just promise you won't make us your slaves, okay?"

"Heh..." Shinso held his hand to his neck. "Everyone always says that."

Y/n immediately felt bad for his classmate. Did he always assume people would see him using his Quirk for bad? That was terrible...

Later, everyone was having lunch. Shinso was outside underneath a blossom tree eating his food. However, his attention was caught by the sound of approaching footsteps. He looks up to see Y/n in front of him holding a lunch box.

"Hey, uh, think I can join you?" the Quirkless teen asked.

"... go ahead," Shinso returned to his food. "Can't stop you."

Y/n thanked his classmate and sat down next to him. Then he opened his lunch box and got out his food. However, after a few bites, he turned to Shinso.

"I'm Y/n L/n. I'm in your class," the boy swalled his food. "You're Hitoshi Shinso, yeah? The guy with the brainwashing Quirk?"

Shinso was quiet for a moment. "Yeah, that's me. What? Want me to not control you, too?"

"I mean, that would be nice, yeah," Y/n chuckled a bit, "but that's not what I was gonna say at all."

"Huh?" Shinso looked at his classmate.

"I wanted to see if you wanted to hang out sometime," Y/n smiled genuinely at Shinso. "With all the people thinking you'll do bad with your Quirk, I figured you may need some better company."

"You... aren't afraid that I'll brainwash you?" the middle schooler asked.

"I mean, there's always that, yeah," Y/n rubbed the back of his head. "But that's the whole thing about being friends, right? Trust and honesty?"

Shinso looked at the (H/C)-haired teen next to him in confusion. Never in his life has he heard something like that from anyone but his parents. He was used to having people look at him like the bad guy, so he couldn't believe this random kid just told him that. He didn't act afraid of him at all.

"S-sure, that'd be fun, I guess," Shinso smiled.

"Great!" Y/n beamed. "When do you want to hang out?"

"How 'bout Saturday?" Shinso suggested. "I recently moved into a new house, so I need some time to unpack my things."

"All good," the (E/C)-eyed first year nodded. "If you need any help, I can give you my number, and I can help if you live close by."

Shinso hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Sure."

Present Time...

Shinso opened his eyes as he looked into the sky. He clenched his fist and jaw in anger. He had lost.

"AND WITH THAT, WE HAVE OUR FIRST VICTORY OF THE FINALS!" Present Mic exclaimed. "CLASS 1A'S IZUKU MIDORIYA!"

The crowd cheers again as Shinso stood to his feet. He was still angry, not just at his loss but at himself for losing. He had failed.

"OH, YEAH! THAT WAS ACTUALLY A REALLY BORING MATCH, KIDS! BUT BOTH OF YOU FOUGHT BRAVELY!" Present Mic told Shinso and Midoriya. "LET'S SHOW THEM SOME LOVE, EVERYONE!"

The crowd cheers for the two of them as the two opponents stood in front of each other. They were silent as the crowd claps. Midoriya recalls what Shinso told him during their fight.

"Someone as blessed as you could never understand! It'll be so easy for you to reach your goal!"

"Why do you wanna be a Hero?" Midoriya asked his opponent. "What's driving you?"

"You can't help the things your heart desires," Shinso says as he turns to walk away.

Midoriya gasped quietly as he watched Shinso walked off. He realized he could relate to the brainwasher. Before he inherited his Quirk, he was just like Shinso. But he also does know that nothing he says will make his fellow student feel any better.

Shinso had walked out of the ring and was making his way to the tunnel. However, voices from above in the stands took his attention. He looked up to see Y/n and the rest of his classmates.

"You were awesome out there, Shinso!" one declared.

"We're proud of you!" a second stated.

"You didn't tell us you were that good!" a third exclaims.

"You hear that, Shinso?" Y/n smiled at his friend. "Listen to what they're saying about you!"

Y/n motioned to the Pro Heroes in the stands and Shinso listened in.

"With a Quirk like that, it would be very simple to capture a dangerous Villain. Wish I had it."

"I can't believe they stuck him and that watch kid in General Studies. Those idiots."

"Well, there are a ton of applications each year. Guess sometimes people slip through the cracks."

"If only he had more combat experience."

"Yeah, I bet he would've dominated. What a waste."

Shinso couldn't believe what he was hearing. Y/n couldn't help but smile at his friend.

"Dude, they think you're incredible!" he announced. "But that was already pretty obvious."

Y/n chuckled a bit until he realized his friend was being oddly quiet. He looked at him, seeing the shocked look on Shinso's face. He could've sworn he saw a blossom gently float by him.

"Depending on the results, they might transfer people to the Hero Course. Remember that," Shinso told Midoriya. "Even if it didn't work out this time, I'm not giving up. I'll get onto the Hero track, get certified, and then, I'll become a better Pro than any of you!"

Midoriya nodded with a grunt. However, he froze and his eyes went blank. Shinso had used his Quirk on him again. But why?

"You know, people usually tense up when they talk to me," Shinso turn to Midoriya. "If you're not onguard, someone's going to defeat you. So be careful."

Midoriya gasped as his eyes returned to normal. He was in control again.

"You better not lose and make me look bad," the brainwasher tells the greenette.

"I won't!" Midoriya gasps as he gets brainwashed again.

Later, the matches went on. The next match was Todoroki against Sero. Sero tried to use his tape to swing his opponent out of bounds. However, Todoroki simply slammed his foot onto the ground and made a giant blast of ice that freezes Sero, Midnight, and half of the stadium. Todoroki won and the next fight began after the ice was melted thanks to the dual-haired teenager.

This fight was Ibara Shiozaki against Denki Kaminari. Kaminari tried to use his electricity to fry Shiozaki. However, the girl with vines for hair used her hair to create a shield and then made the dumbed-down Kaminari get wrapped up. She won basically immediately.

The next match was Tenya Iida versus Mei Hatsume. Hatsume ended up making a fool of Iida by basically using him as a walking advertisement for her support items. Iida won after Hatsume walked out of the boundaries after about ten or so minutes. To say Iida was upset is an understatement.

The fifth match was between Yuga Aoyama and Mina Ashido. It wasn't a very long fight. Aoyama fired his bellybutton laser a few times before his stomach started aching and Ashido threw acid at his belt. It melted and made his pants drop down, embarrassing the Frenchie. It was soon ended by an uppercut from Ashido.

And then it was time for the match Y/n was waiting for: his own. Standing in the ring, the boy stood in front of his opponent. Gwen L/n. His cousin.

"ARE YOU ALL READY FOR THIS FIGHT?! THIS ONE'S A FAMILY FUED!" Present Mic announced. "ON ONE SIDE OF THE L/N TREE, WE HAVE THE CRAZY KID WITH THE CRAZY WATCH! HE MAY BE IN A 'LOWER CLASS', BUT HE'S MAKING A BIG NAME FOR HIMSELF ALREADY! HE TOOK OUT A ZERO POINTER IN THE OBSTACLE RACE AND GOT FIRST PLACE IN THE CALVARY BATTLE WITH THE REST OF TEAM MIDORIYA! IT'S Y/N L/N FROM GENERAL STUDIES!"

Y/n smirked at his cousin. Gwen smirked back as her eyes flashed pink.

"HIS FIGHT IS WITH A GIRL WHO HASN'T SHOWN OFF MUCH, AND JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE Y/N L/N'S COUSIN, BUT SHE'S SURPRISINGLY STRONG AS WELL! AND PINK!" Present Mic announced. "IT'S GWEN L/N FROM THE SUPPORT COURSE!"

"You ready to get your butt whooped, dweeb?" Gwen asked her cousin.

The stands were roaring loudly with cheers.

"Funny," Y/n chuckled. "I was about to say the same to you, dorkerina."

"ARE YOU READY?" Mic asked. "BEGIN!"

And with that, Gwen summoned pink energy around her hands and threw constructs at her cousin. Y/n activated his watch and slammed down on it, resulting in a flash of green light. The fight between family has begun.
