[JG] Flourish.
You could help but stare at her. The way her bright red hair fell off her shoulders, the way her eyelashes would flutter as she blinked, it was enough to make your heart pound quicker than running one hundred miles would.
You knew that she was far too popular for you to even introduce yourself to her. She was always with her group, consisting of; Scott Summers, the bad boy with a deadly glare. Kurt Wagner, the innocent blueberry who disappears with a blink of an eye. Jubilation Lee; the fashion icon with a spark in her eyes. Lastly, herself. Jean Grey; the telepath who stole your heart.
It was stupid. You didn't even know her, she didn't even know you, yet it felt like your entire world revolved around her.
But today was different.
She was studying underneath a tree on her own, with books surrounding her. You sat a little bit away from her, underneath your own tree, a book in your hands but your eyes scanning her rather than the words on the page.
You could see that she was stressed, your eyebrows furrowed and she flicked through the pages harshly before rubbing her forehead. Your eyes flickered to the ground around her. Small flowers began to grow, they caught her eye, she smiled at them before looking around.
You quickly looked down to your book hoping she didn't catch you staring.
When you looked up a minute later she was gone. You sighed and decided to actually read your book rather than just holding it for decoration. You leaned against the tree, trying not to look back at the spot where she once was in desperation. It was stupid. You barely knew her and yet you were obsessed. Maybe it was too much.
-
During class, you sat at the back. Jean sat a couple of seats ahead of you on your right, the sun shining down on her making it look like she had a halo above her head. You sighed and looked back down to your page, a small drawing of flowers covered the sides.
You heard your name being called out, you looked up and saw almost everyone looking at you. You looked around before looking at the teacher. You didn't say anything. Were you asked a question? The teacher sighed before asking someone else. The others turned away from you.
You looked over to Jean who still stared back at you, you looked down hoping she didn't see that or read your mind. You stayed still, looking at your desk for a while before looking back up. She was talking to Scott. You looked back to the teacher, hoping that you'd be able to concentrate on something other than the two of them.
-
When the lesson ended you packed up quickly, leaving the room before anyone else had finished putting the lid back on their pen. You made your way to your room, trying to finish the work that the teacher set before the end of the day. You could eat later.
You couldn't concentrate for long, Jean was still on your mind.
You groaned at your stupid crush and moved to sit by the window. Staring down at the ground. You could see the plants below you, almost wilting away.
You pressed your hand against the window, watching as the small plants began to grow more, as the colour returned and almost doubled in numbers. You leaned forwards, staring at the other students walking around. Jean was back at her tree, books surrounding her once more.
You didn't even realise that your hand was still on the window until she was almost surrounded by red flowers. You pulled back and closed your curtains quickly, your heart hammered in your chest.
You had to stop doing that.
-
It was almost midnight, but you couldn't sleep. You were outside, by Jean's tree. You leaned back against the tree, making flowers rise from the ground, springing up in patches. You picked one of them, spinning it slowly around your fingers. You picked the petals off, glancing up at Jean's window. Seeing the lights off.
Of course, she'd be asleep. You were beginning to become borderline obsessed, almost like a stalker would.
You shook your head, dropping the flower, rubbing your eyes with the palms of your hands. "Just get over it, it's just a crush. It's nothing more than that," you mumbled to yourself.
"What are you doing out here?" You froze. You looked up to see Jean in her pyjama's and a small coat.
"Uh...Nothing. Just thinking."
"I gathered that much, your thoughts are loud." Your eyes widened and you stood up.
"Sorry about that, I didn't mean to...Sorry if I made you uncomfortable, I-"
Jean started to laugh. Great, she thought you were an idiot.
"I think it's cute."
You looked back up to her. "What?"
"It's cute, no one had put the same amount of effort as you do to make me smile," she told you.
"You don't think I'm a weirdo?"
"No." She shook her head.
"Wait, did you know this entire time?" She nodded her head. "How?"
"I accidentally read your mind instead of Scott's," she replied. "It was a mistake, but then I couldn't stop," she told you sheepishly. "I liked hearing your thoughts, they were always so nice, so kind. You're not like other students here."
"Is that a bad thing?"
"No, it's a good thing."
"Why didn't you say anything?"
"Because..." She bit her bottom lip, thinking. "If I said something before, you might have stopped thinking all those nice things, I was being selfish, I guess."
"It's not selfish."
"It's not?"
"You deserve to know that someone cares," you told her quietly. "I mean, I suppose you would have preferred to have heard it from Scott, but-"
"I wanted to hear you say it."
"What?"
"I like the sound of your voice...Or thoughts." She looked down to the ground.
"I thought you and Scott were a thing..."
"Just friends."
"Oh." You were surprised, they always seemed to act like a couple.
"I like someone else."
"Oh." Well, that ripped your heart out. She stepped closer to you, still looking at the ground, being careful not to step on the flowers.
"Can I do something?"
"Uh, sure. Yeah." You nodded.
"Promise you won't hate me after?"
"I think both of us know I couldn't do that even if I tried." She grinned before stepping closer once more, both of your chests almost touching.
"You sure?"
"Positive," your voice was almost a whisper. She gently held your face in her hands, her eyes flickering to your lips before looking into your eyes.
"Just say if you want me to stop."
"I don't want you to stop," you responded slightly awkwardly, never having someone this close to you before.
"Good." She smiled shyly before tiptoeing to press her lips against yours.
