Biography
When Scott was a young boy, his father, USAF Major Christopher Summers, took the family for a flight in their de Havilland Mosquito from his grandparents' home in Anchorage, Alaska, when it came under attack by an alien Shi'ar spaceship. As the plane went down in flames, Scott's parents fastened him and his younger brother Alex into a parachute and pushed them off the plane, hoping that they would survive.
It was at that point where Scott's powers would be triggered, using his beams to safely land, but the poor control over his newfound powers caused his parachute to caught fire and Scott struck his head upon landing, causing a brain damage that made his optic blasts uncontrollable.
The boys then became wards of the state and became separated, with Scott believing that Alex had died, not knowing that he was still alive. Later, Scott's uncontrollable powers caused him to run away from the orphanage, eventually being found by Professor Charles Xavier, who takes him as his ward at his school for gifted youngsters.
Together with Jean Grey, Bobby Drake, Hank McCoy, and Warren Worthington III, his fellow Mutant friends, they became the superhero team X-Men to fight for Mutant and human co-existence while also fighting evil Mutants including Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants. Because being the most mature member of the group, he became the leader of the X-Men. He also starts a relationship with Jean.
Scott also later learns that Alex is alive and that he is also a Mutant, where they reunite, and Alex would later become the superhero Havok.
During the team's mission on the sentient island of Krakoa, Cyclops is the only person who manages to escape and return to Xavier, where he becomes the leader to new group of X-Men including Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Shadowcat, and Wolverine, and rescue the original team. With Angel, Beast, Iceman, and Jean reuniting with them and forming a new strong team of X-Men, Cyclops remain leader.
During the X-Men's conflict with the aliens known as the Shi'ar, Scott learns that not only his father is alive, but he was a space pirate known as Corsair, leader of the group known as Starjammers.
Later, Scott's life would take a dramatic change when Jean becomes a host to the Phoenix Force and becomes the Dark Phoenix, and eventually when she and Xavier both die to sacrifice themselves from the Phoenix Force, Scott leaves the team and goes through series of depression. Eventually, Wolverine, Beast, and Storm brings him back, encouraging him to fight for Jean and Xavier's memories.
With his mental health improved, Scott returns to the X-Men as their leader, continuing to fight for peace between Mutants and humans. He also renames the school to Jean Grey's School for Higher Learning.
Powers
Mutant Physiology: The plane accident that left his parents for dead triggered Scott's X-genes to be unlocked which caused his genetics to be mutated and awaken his powers. He is classified as an Alpha Level Mutant.
Optic Blast: Scott's main iconic power is to blast a powerful concussive red-colored beams from his eyes. The energies from the beams originate from another dimension, capable of absorbing solar radiation, photons, and cosmic rays that can be metabolized by his body into concussive blasts that are released from his eyes. The head injury he received from the plane crash that triggered his powers caused him to unable to control his beams, and thus Scott wears glasses and a visor made out of synthetic ruby quartz crystal to contain the beams, though it also cause him to perceive everything in red as a side effect.
Trajectory Bending: Scott is additionally capable of control his beams and able to twist and curve them in any given direction without need of a solid surface to bounce his eye beams off of.
Spatial Awareness: Scott possesses an uncanny sense of trigonometry, in this sense used to describe his observation of objects around himself and the angles found between surfaces of these objects. Scott has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to cause his optic blasts to ricochet and/or reflect off those objects in a trajectory to his liking. This is commonly called a "banked shot" when applied to this talent. Scott has been observed causing beams to reflect from over a dozen surfaces in the course of one blast, and still hit his intended target accurately. It is his sense of spatial awareness enhanced to superhuman levels that allows him to perform these feats as well.
