Chapter 53
Faust
Ten minutes later sees the Alpha pair's advisors getting ushered into the house while I wait in the living room. After their greetings and usual niceties are out of the way they ask if everything is alright, all the while I can hear them steadily making their way closer. As soon as they see me their cheerful smiles wilt slightly but then go on high powered.
"Young Alpha Faust Nightsbane. I'd recognize you from my daughter's regaling tales alone. It's nice to finally meet you face to face."
Kostakis Gallents, father to triplets, one being a runt, smiles widely at me. A couple inches taller than me at six foot eight, he holds more of the traditional Greek traits of brown hair, olive complexion and darker blue eyes. Aurora is also tanned with lighter blue eyes, blond, and standing at an even six foot. Wynter carries the same bone structure, but that's about where the similarities stop.
Wynter, like her namesake, has hair that's such a pale blond it's near white. Aside from the father, her whole family carries the blue-eyed trait, yet hers are so deep and dark it's like looking into the sky on a cloudless and starless night. Her skin tone is also the complete opposite, being near a milky cream instead of any kind of sunkissed. A beautiful woman, yet she gets treated as if she were a leper.
"By daughter I presume you're referring to Mythine."
I get comfortable in my seat while they look uneasy for a moment then nod, resuming their smiles. Aurora picking up where her mate left off.
"Of course. The way she spoke so highly of you when you attended school together, she's quite taken with you. She was hoping you would call on her when we settled in here..."
I raise a hand, not able to listen to anymore. Awfully presumptuous of both mother and daughter. The woman seems to realize that as she drops her gaze, her cheeks tinting red. I'd like to know where she got it in her head to single out a child of hers and spoil them like a human would their own. You don't do that with wolves, especially those with siblings.
"I'm not here about Mythine. Before you all arrived it was agreed that everyone from the Grotto Falls and Lunar Soul Packs would move here. Yet there's someone missing."
The color seems to fade from both of them. While Aurora keeps her eyes directed down, Kostakis flicks his eyes towards his Alphas who're standing nearby looking on with interest. While not audible, his swallow is very visible before he speaks up.
"Wynter. You're referring to Wynter..."
I nod while there's another knock on the door. Messina moves to answer it and I wait, watching the Gallents look increasingly apprehensive. If the girl had just 'run away' as they claimed, then what would there be to look so guilty over? When hearing the voices at the door, they have mixed reactions, which just makes this even more interesting.
Messina leads in Adolphos and Mythine, both of whom had been at the training grounds. Thanks to a text from me though, their trainer sent them over. Adolphos blinks around the room, hiding his nervousness rather well, while Mythine, in her cluelessness, is too busy eating me with her eyes to read the room.
Motioning them to take a seat near their parents, the boy sits next to his father while Myth sits next to her mother, who in turn immediately takes her hand and squeezes it. Not wanting to waste anymore time, I get right to it.
"I don't suppose either of you know where your missing sister is?"
They both frown, but while his looks honest, Mythine just looks annoyed. To be expected, I guess. Girl seems to really have it in for her sister, just don't understand why.
"Wynter? She bolted before we moved, why?"
"Why is it important? A single runt is hardly important."
Adolphos answers first, followed by Mythine, who sounds nearly petulant. Even she winces at her tone. I catch her mother tightening her grip on her hand as well which has the younger girl dropping her eyes while biting her lip.
"The why is the very thing I would like to know. After surviving as long as she has, I do not believe she would just up and 'run away' without a valid reason. The rumors of her being feral she'd confronted head on and were of your own design."
Eying the girl, her jaw clenches but she doesn't raise her gaze.
"Do you even realize the trouble you started? Not just for your sibling, but for all of us?"
Her head raises and the clueless blank look in her eyes has me shooting a glare over to her parents who grimace. Alpha Messina speaks up, her voice low with a thread of anger.
"We spoke to all of you about this before when Wynter brought this to our attention. She'd mentioned how it was going around the high school and how even the human children were spreading it around. We warned you how this could affect us all."
My hand resting on the arm of the chair tightens into a fist. So the parents were told, yet Mythine kept with it? Did they not take her to task at all?
"If you all hadn't moved here there's no telling what could have happened, yet I can't let this stand. You've not only endangered your own Pack, but those of Grotto Falls as well. You put your own sister in harm's way over a petty difference..."
"She's a runt!"
"She is your blood!"
Growling out the words at her, all the others in the room drop their gazes. The royal bloodline comes with more than a few perks and being an Alpha on top of that just compounds. Thanks to my brother and great grandfather I know the pressure that exerts over one's mind when royal Alphas flare their auras. I've only ever used mine a few times and losing my temper here is disgraceful.
Standing up, I sneer down at the Gallents as a whole.
"If she is not found, you and your family will not be welcome here. You have already shown you can not be trusted with the welfare of those close to you. The whole purpose of this place is to protect those around you. If you can't even put aside your misaligned prejudice for your sibling, then how are we to trust you to protect the rest of those here?"
Kostakis and Aurora had gasped and looked up with wide eyes while Mythine hunches in on herself, but I don't believe she feels sorry for anyone but herself. Turning to leave, Adolphos abruptly stands up.
"I'll look for her."
His hurried words take his parents and sister by surprise but he looks determined. I slide my eyes down his frame, not very impressed. Standing six foot even, he's either going to be a short male or he's yet still growing. They'd just recently turned eighteen so it's possible he has one more growth spurt in him. His brown hair matches his fathers, though it's streaked blond, and his eyes are light blue. His fit, muscular build shows him to be active and capable, but I guess only time will tell.
"What's your aptitude?"
"Tracking and information gathering, sir."
My brows lift, actually surprised. He might actually prove useful after all. Looking over to his parents and sister, I tell them they're dismissed. They leave hurriedly, heads down. Once they leave I direct my attention to him once more, he's standing erect, at attention, and I can smell his nervousness.
"Grab what you need. Let your trainers know you'll be on extended leave. I'll let my brother know as well and clear the way for you. If you don't find or try to return without her, your sister and parents will be cast out."
Looking over to the Alphas of Lunar Soul, I keep my eyes hard as I gaze at them passively.
"Do you disagree with this ruling?"
Upon seeing their heads shaking in the negative, Adolphos lowers his head in acknowledgment then moves to leave. Turning back to the Alphas myself after he's gone, I bid my farewells and head out myself. That's one stop down, one more to go.
