Chapter 50

//POV switch//

Faust

It's been nearly a month since the two new Packs moved in nearby. Three and a half weeks, yet I haven't gone to see that feisty little she-wolf. The full moon has come and gone. I'd thought about trying to surprise her then, but knew it would be way too chaotic. The community is still trying to get settled with everyone in their new positions.

I had left Grotto Falls early to prepare for their arrival. My brother is the head of this project and while it had already been planned, I was late in returning since I had dropped by to see Wynter before leaving. Awful luck for her birthday to fall on the same day I was to leave, but I couldn't go without seeing her again. There's something about that girl that just draws me, as corny as it sounds.

Shortly after returning, Dante had pulled me aside, needing me for another mission. While not thrilled about it, I can't deny my older brother much, if anything. A few years older than I, yet we're the only two who are born Alphas to our parents out of their surviving children. His triplet brothers were killed years ago and rarely, if ever, get mentioned. My younger brother and twin little sisters luckily don't have to bear that burden.

While Dante takes lead on this project, our parents deal with others elsewhere, just as other members of the Midnight Fang. This may be our home base, but we have outposts spread throughout the country. When my siblings become of age, they'll branch out to those bases. I probably will too at some point, but right now, I'm more or less my brother's second-in-command.

When I'd gotten back and before he'd sent me out again, I'd given my usual reports. Those who I thought best for certain programs, the ones who would probably fail and need extra training, and those who showed promise for special projects. I also had to give warning about certain individuals who could and probably would be a problem. Almost didn't mention that the Lunar Soul Pack had a runt, but since it's not exactly common to see one her age, I'd brought it up.

"Keep an eye out for her, she's hard to miss, believe it or not. The others in her Pack act as if she's unsightly but it's quite the opposite, really."

Dante lifts a brow, appearing amused as he looks over the list of names I'd handed him, pointing hers out even after mentioning it.

"Not like I don't have a million other things to do around here, but sure, I'll keep an eye out. Why bother though?"

I shrug but feel the smile tug at my lips. Dante can be a real hardass at times, even come off as an asshole and unyielding, especially to those who don't know him, but he's pretty laid back most of the time. His position just comes with a lot of responsibility.

"I want to deal with her myself. She'll probably be looking for work right away, the day I'd left she'd turned eighteen and from what I understand was getting kicked out of her home. With the way I saw the dynamics work around there, I doubt anyone filled her in on how things will work here, so she'll be completely lost. I think she was one of a very few in her age group who even bothered with a job, so she'll have a major leg up in the skills department over the others."

Dante grunts as he looks through the paperwork in his hands, his forehead knitting as he reads over something.

"You said Wynter Gallents, right? It would appear one of the females you warned me about would be kin of hers. A sibling."

I scoff as my arms cross, feeling the heat of anger roiling in my gut.

"What they share could hardly be called a sibling relationship, but yeah, she's a viper."

My brother's green eyes, so like my own, widen before he grins mischievously.

"Got yourself a tail chaser, huh?"

Snorting derisively, I lean against the wall as images of Mythine pop into my head.

"Worse. She's a rank-chaser."

Dante chuckles as he looks over another list in his hands before frowning slightly.

"Including you, that was a total of five titled Alpha males before everyone gets moved back here."

Nodding, I go through them in my head while naming them aloud, even though he has the list in his hands.

"Fen is her Pack Alpha and currently married to Messina. Kristos is Grotto Falls' Alpha, yet has shown no interest in re-mating. And the Alphas-in-training who I'd seen her firsthand bounce from. First their own Pack's Leilan, then Markus, Kristos' son, then to me. Was really bad with me, especially when it got out who I was."

I cringe as I recall the girl's actions. I've had females throw themselves at me before, but this just seemed to go beyond that. This she-wolf was willing to step on everyone around her, to sell out all those close to her, hell, even sell herself, if that's what it took. From what I glimpsed of her life, there was no reason for her to act that way, but then I never actually met her parents.

Hearing Dante's laughter pulls me out of my memories and glancing over at him, his naturally arched brows are raised and he's smirking.

"Since when did you turn away free tail?"

I sneer at him. There's a difference between free tail and self-respect, even he has to know that.

"I usually wouldn't have, but there was something about that female that just didn't sit right - though she did make a good cover to keep others at bay."

Dante laughs then looks directly at me.

"How did it come out who you are anyway? Did one of the Alpha's leak it?"

Shaking my head, my stomach churns. Wynter had made a promise and I'd held her to it. I was so angry thinking it was her who had blabbed, but seeing her face that day, even after the others had their go at her, it didn't feel right. Her eyes were too earnest. Too honest.

"No, the talks I had with them went smoothly. Markus I might have questioned about, but he has too much integrity, like his father. Leilan I'm not too sure, but he seems like he'd keep it under wraps just because it would be something he could hold over others his age."

There is one other possibility, but it wouldn't make much sense for the Rogues to let something like that slip. What would they have to gain? If anything, they'd keep it hidden as it would draw less attention to their activities as well. I'm missing something, I just don't know what, and I have a feeling it'll come back to bite me later.

There we are, slight time skip ahead and a POV switch. Wasn't going to do this originally, but I ended up slipping in too many details when sketching everything that I needed to flesh out for my brain to calm down. Too much going on on this side for it not to be told and I hate trying to backtrack when too far ahead, it makes things confusing for both me and as a reader (unless done right and I freely admit I'm terrible at it).

Any questions, comments, complaints? Hit me up. Though everything will be explained more as the story goes on, if anything isn't quite clear, lemme know :}
