Chapter 34
On the way to Marie's house, my mind whirls crazily which has my heart near at a constant hard pound of anxiety. I'm walking, yet I feel as if I've been running. Running, yet getting nowhere. I need to talk to the Alphas. Markus said he would, but I never heard back on how that went and I need to see their faces myself on how things are going. Not to mention the other things I need to ask them about.
It's just getting to them that's going to be the problem. I'm not exactly in a position to just go up to and seek their attention. That's not how it works. I have to go to the Betas first and send the request 'up the line'. After speaking with Alpha Messina on the full moon, I think I could get to her, but that also depends on just how busy they are. Going off of what I overheard at home, I imagine things are kind of hectic right now.
Our Pack alone numbers into the thirties, the Grotto Falls Pack is slightly larger. That's at least seventy wolves moving to this new land they bought. And lets not forget, it's land that was originally owned by the royal wolves who're offering their cloak protection over any and all Packs they can get control over. Protection from what exactly? I would assume political as it only makes sense.
I don't get to dwell on that at all since I find myself walking up to my friend's home. Don't remember the walk at all, my feet taking me where I wanted to go. I don't see her parents' car, but there are lights on in the house. Just seeing this house helps me relax a little, as I know here, I'm welcome.
I still knock though, smiling when I hear Marie shouting from within that she's coming. When the door opens, my friend makes a face at me and starts on a tirade that I could have just come in, but I like the feeling of being welcomed in. So smiling at her with a growing warmth in my belly, I follow after as she leads the way inside.
Heading for the kitchen, we grab up some food before heading to her room, she humming while looking at me. Something in her eye lets me know something's up so I look at her in question, but she beats me to the punch.
"There something going on? Kal had texted ahead saying she wouldn't be able to make it, then you get here and you looked kinda upset."
Checking my phone, sure enough there's a missed text from Kal saying she wouldn't be able to come as she hadn't finished the Pack stuff she was doing. If it has anything to do with what was talked about at my home, I'm curious to know just what it is they're doing, but she's also her Pack's Omega, she has actual duties. Since I'm a Runt, the one getting pushed out of everything, I miss a lot of the interactions some of the Pack does unless we're already all together.
"Wynter?"
Blinking up at Marie's blue eyes, not realizing I'd kept my head down, I shoot her a small smile.
"Probably continuing her Pack stuff, I'm not sure what it could be though. Kal is the Grotto Falls Omega's daughter. Omegas have a set of duties like the Alphas or Betas, so she's probably caught up in that. My Pack has them too, but I don't know what they are. They usually revolve around helping other pack members with assorted things from household chores and babysitting to keeping everyone calm and level headed. That also just depends on how one's Pack works though."
Shrugging, I pop a chip into my mouth and watch as she thinks that over while we head to her room. We've all noticed how Kristos, Markus's dad, runs his Pack slightly different, so his Omegas are treated better than most from what I understand. The Omegas of my own Pack don't have much to do with me so we steer clear of each other. The adults anyway, their sons have always been a little odd, but what do you expect from triplets.
"So if Kal is the Grotto Falls Omega, who's yours?"
I frown as I think of them. A year older than the rest of us, so they didn't join us in school, think the last time I did see them was during the full moon. They roamed the campsite as guards for the little ones. While not identical in human form, their wolf forms look a lot alike if one doesn't know what to look for. And in the dark, they're nearly inseparable.
"I'm not sure if you've seen them or not, but if they were ever together they're hard to forget. Three brothers, triplets. They're a year older than us otherwise they would have joined us in school as well."
Marie frowns slightly as she slips a chip into her mouth, pondering before she grunts and start waving her hands around. Looking at her with raised brows while I get my bag set down, her eyes are fairly sparkling at me.
"Oh! I think I have seen them! Really tall and lanky with black hair? They'd come to the shop several times. I always thought it was the same person, then thought I was seeing double before I saw them all converge in a corner once. Lemme tell you, it was some kind of trippy!"
I laugh at her exuberance but become confused as to why they were there. Not once did I ever catch their scents. Just how many of the Pack went there overall? And why? When I see my friend's face fall into hard contemplation, I groan.
"Do I even want to know what you're thinking about right now?"
Her eyes flick up to me, her voice coming out serious and filled with interest.
"Can you imagine it? All three of them being into you at once? Just the intrigue alone! The drama! What would one call that exactly? Besides freakin' sexy I mean. All three Werewolf brothers, all tied up over you..."
"Oh God, please stop, that's gross!"
My laughing is combined with my hands waving in front of my face, not wanting to hear anymore, let alone see the visuals that are popping up. I think I've officially been scarred for life.
"But, but whhhy? That is so hot! You are surrounded by all these hot guys that have an inner wolf, how are you not constantly swooning?"
"I'll leave the swooning to you as only you think they're hot."
I'm laughing so much I can't eat anything else, let alone get my stuff set up. We'd ignored her bed to flop on the floor when we got in here, and she's rolling around as she daydreams. I love my friend, but she can't seem to see past their outer shell. A lot of them I've seen her drool over, I've seen their true colors, and they're really not that great. Some are more or less indifferent, but still.
After a few more minutes of goofing off, I'm finally able to get the subject onto the reason I came over, telling her the sooner we do it the sooner it'll be finished and can talk about other stuff. She finally agreed, but after much pouting and demands to know about the triplets, which is weird but I agreed.
