The Story: At "Anarchy In The East", John Cena captured the Intercontinental Championship, in a classic match against Sami Zayn. The following night on RAW, John Cena introduced a new spinner Championship, for himself to hold.

That attracted the attention of Bad News Barrett, who attacked Cena declaring himself #1 contender. Cena would go on to accept the challenge, and this would lead to a showdown at Night Of Champions, for the Intercontinental Championship. Can Cena succefully walk out as Champion, in his first Intercontinental title defense?

The Match: Barrett begins to attack Cena with a flurry of strikes in the corner. As the referee pushed Barrett back, Cena exploded with a Clothesline, knocking Barrett down. For the first half of the match, Cena showcased how he improved his wrestling game by wearing down Barrett, with Various Holds. Cena then attempts to Suplex Barrett, but Barrett counters it, into a Suplex of his own.

Barrett then proceeds to savagely attack Cena, hitting him with multiple backbreakers. Barrett then hits Cena with a Spinebuster for a two count. Barrett then continues his assault on Cena, but Cena tries to battle back. Barrett, however, hits Cena with a straight kick to the skull, sending the champion outside of the ring. Barrett then tries to send Cena into the Steel Steps, but Cena counters, sending Barrett into the steel instead.

Cena, with all of his might, throws Barrett skull first into the ring post. As a result, Barrett is busted open, and blood pours out of his cut, like a faucet . Cena then brings Barrett back into the ring. Cena then initiates his comback, before slamming Barrett onto the canvas.

Cena then signals for the Five Knuckle Shuffle, and he hits it, right on the open wound of Barrett. Cena then stalks Barrett, setting him up for the Attitude Adjustment, but Barrett pushes Cena away, and he hits the Winds of Change on the rebound. Barrett then goes for the cover, but Cena kicks out at two. Barrett then goes up to the top rope, but Cena meets him up there, and he hits Barrett with a Attitude Adjustment from the top rope.

Cena then covers Barrett, but Barrett kicks out at two and a half. Cena then goes to the top rope, for a leg drop, but Barrett hits a sudden Bull Hammer as Cena came down. Barrett then goes for the cover, but Cena kicks out at two. Barrett in disbelief, argues with the official, but the official tells him it was a two count. Barrett then tries to hit Cena with the Wasteland, but Cena traps Barrett in the STF, causing Barrett to tap out.

Winner by Submission Still Intercontinental Champion: John Cena.

After the match: While Cena is celebrating, the lights go out. When the lights come back on, they turn to a shade of red. The WWE Universe is shocked to see, that the Monster Abyss has returned, this time, with Father James Mitchell at his side. Abyss then attacks Cena, hitting him with a Shock Treatment and finally a Black Hole Slam. Father James Mitchell then tells Cena, "Welcome to Doomsday" as the camera fades to black.
