The Story: At Night Of Champions, Sting successfully defended the WWE Championship, in a grueling Championship Scramble match. The following night on RAW, Samoa Joe made his return, and he challenged Sting to a title match at Hell In a Cell.

Samoa Joe has been a World Champion before, but he has never held the WWE Championship, a mission he wants to fulfill.

On the final RAW before Hell In a Cell, it was announced that these two would compete in a pinfall and Submission only match, so that a clear winner would be decided among the two.

The Match: Sting and Joe begin to tie up, trying to get an advantage early on. Joe traps Sting in a side headlock, in a attempt to wear down the Champion. Sting then pushes Joe into the ropes, and he knocks him down with a Back Elbow. Sting then puts Joe in a Chin Lock, slowing down his momentum. Joe then uses his power, to slam Sting breaking the chin lock.

Joe then gets the upper hand for most of the first half, overpowering Sting at every turn. Joe then knocks Sting out of the ring, and he hits a overhead somersault dive, on the Icon. Joe then tries to Irish Whip Sting into the steel ring steps, but Sting counters and sends Joe knee first into the steps.

Sting then sees Joe leaning against the Barricade, he then gets a running start, and performs a Stinger Splash on Joe, causing both of them to crash through the Barricade. Sting then places Joe in the ring, and he attempts to lock in the Scorpion Deathlock, but Joe counters it into an STF. Sting then manages to reach the ropes, but Joe pulls him back, and he locks the STF back in. Sting then manages to slip out of the STF, and he traps Samoa Joe in the Crossface.

Samoa Joe manages to get to the ropes, after being trapped in the hold for three minutes. Sting then hits Joe with a Samoan Drop, and he goes to the top rope. Sting then attempts an Elbow Drop, but Joe rolls out of the way, and he hits a running senton on Sting. Joe then goes for the cover, but Sting kicks out at two. Joe then hits Sting, with multiple strikes, before kicking him into a corner.

Joe then sets up Sting for the Muscle Buster, but Sting fights Joe off, and he hits a Tornado DDT on the challenger. Sting then hits Joe with another Stinger Splash, followed by a Samoan Drop. Sting then locks Joe in the Scorpion Deathlock. Joe then counters it into a inside cradle, but Sting kicks out at two.

Sting then stalks Joe for the Scorpion Death Drop, but Joe slips behind Sting, and he traps him in the Rear Naked Choke. Sting then rapidly fades, and the referee checks to see if Sting is out. After his arm went down twice, Sting managed to stand up, and reverse the Rear Naked Choke, into a thunderous Scorpion Death Drop. Sting then goes for the cover, but Joe kicks out at two and a half.

Sting then goes out of the ring, and he gets out his trademark Baseball Bat. He tries to hit Joe with it, but Joe hits him with a Super Kick. Sting then bounces off the ropes, and he surprisingly hits Joe, with a Tombstone Piledriver. Sting then covers Joe, but Joe kicks out at Two and a half again!

Sting then argues with the referee, but the official tells him that it was a two count. Sting then tries for another Stinger Splash, but Joe hits him with the Baseball Bat. Joe then hits the Muscle Buster on Sting, and he gets the win, becoming the WWE Champion.
