The Story: At Night Of Champions, John Cena successfully defended the Intercontinental Championship against Bad News Barrett, but he was then decimated by a returning Abyss, along with Father James Mitchell.

Abyss declared on the next night on RAW, that he would Challenge John Cena to a match, for the Intercontinental Championship. Cena then emerged and he suggested, that the match be a First Blood match.

On the final RAW before Hell In a Cell, Cena defeated Cesaro in a Intercontinental Championship Match, to retain his title. Abyss then attacked Cena, Chokeslaming him through the Announce Table, Abyss would then bust Cena open with a ring bell, sending a message to the champion.

The Match: John Cena begins to attack Abyss, right before the bell rings, but "The Monster" grabs Cena, and throws him out of the ring. Abyss then methodically assaults Cena, throwing into certain areas of the ring, including the ring steps. Abyss then takes the ring steps, and he attempts to attack Cena with them, but Cena dropkicks Abyss, causing the steel steps to fall on top of him.

Cena then takes out a Steel Chair, and he repeatedly hammers Abyss, who is still trapped on the Steel Steps. Cena then gets out a table, and he begins to set it up. Cena then goes towards Abyss, but Abyss hits him with the steps. Although Cena got his hands up, it still stunned him long enough, for Abyss to Chokeslam him through a table.

Abyss then goes under the ring, and he gets out a Steel Chair. He then starts to repeatedly hit Cena, 15 times, in the back with the chair. Abyss then hits Cena in the skull, with the chair, but Cena was not bleeding. Abyss then puts Cena back in the ring, and he retrieves a sack from Father James Mitchell. Abyss then opens the sack, and out pours thousands and thousands of thumb tacks.

Abyss then attempts to Chokeslam Cena on the tacks, but Cena counters it into an Attitude Adjustment, causing Abyss to land directly on the Thumb Tacks. Cena then grabs his arm steel chain from his pocket, and he attempts a Five Knuckle Shuffle on Abyss, but Abyss counters Cena, and he hits him with a Black Hole Slam on the Thumb Tacks.

As Cena is writhing in pain, Abyss then goes under the ring, and he pulls out his Spiked Baseball Bat, that he calls Janice. Cena then gets to his feet and Abyss goes for a swing, but Cena ducks and he hits Abyss with the Steel Chain. Cena then grabs Janice, and he smashes Abyss in the skull, causing Abyss to Don the Crimson Mask and win the match.

Winner and Still Intercontinental Champion: John Cena.
