CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN (REWRITTEN) ☎️
•••
She fumbled with her fingers as her mind ran at the pace of a cheetah, hunting for it's helplessly struggling prey. Alex's heart was beating out of her chest, and her palms were layered with a thin layer of sweat, causing her to wipe her clammy hands on her jeans.
The brunette checked, double-checked, and triple-checked her messages, desperate for any kind of media to inform her that he was arriving. She scrolled through her Instagram feed and text messages, so many times that her fingers felt heavier and heavier after each refresh.
Panic ran through her mind as the image of his face appeared in her mind, her fingers were shaking and she couldn't function.
It wasn't her fault, she was a teenager who was hopelessly in love.
She was about to collapse at stress, and that buzz from her phone was what did it.

Trying not to trip over her own feet, Alex sprinted towards the front door, gliding slightly on the wooden boards with her white socks. She felt her hands get shakier and shakier as she grasped the door handle, twisting it and pulling the wooden door open.
There he was.
"Hello there, T-Rex," He smiled, holding up a bouquet of roses wrapped in garnet paper. His dark, silky brown curls that Alex had been longing to run her fingers through slightly draped over his forehead, and seemingly on their own command, her hands immediately rushed to brush them to the side.
Finn's eyes widened for a second, surprised by the girl's bold actions, but they softened as soon as his gaze landed on her. He grinned warmly, gently grasping the girl's left hand and handing the bouquet into her hand. "I think this is for you."
Fixing her composture, she held the roses with her hands, "It better be."
They both chuckled slightly before gazing into each other's eyes, both slightly dazed and stunned from meeting each other in real life instead of just reading words on a screen. Alex snapped out of her trance, closing the door behind Finn and gesturing for him to come in, still holding the bouquet with her hand, "Come on, I don't bite."
As she grabbed an old vase from a cabinet and filled it with water, Finn sat on the couch, sinking into the soft material. There was comfortable silent in the room before the boy decided to strike up a conversation, "So, where are your parents?"
"Bussiness trip," She replied, almost immediately. She delicately snipped the stems of the roses at an angle before inserting them into the water-filled vase, lifting it out onto the dining table and proudly displaying it.
Alex seated herself next to Finn on the couch, her arms wrapped around her folded legs that were up to her chest, curling herself into a ball.
Finn turned to the girl, "Do they know about, you know..."
"Us?" She asked, turning towards him. She smiled and gently tapped him on the nose, giggling softly afterwards. "Of course, you doofus. What kind of girl invites her crush to her house without asking her parents first?"
"Crush?" He asked, an eyebrow raised. "You mean, soon-to-be-boyfriend?"
She sighed, grinning. "I mean, already-boyfriend."
"That better be what you mean," Finn smiled, placing his hand on her cheek gently. He played with a strand of her chocolate brown hair, letting it twirl around his fingers and letting it drop before tucking it behind her ear.
He glanced down at her lips, leaning in slightly, but keeping just enough distance for her to say no if she's uncomfortable. The corners of her lips were raised in a smile, "Just kiss me already, human."
"Of course, T-Rex,"
He closed the distance between them.
The kiss made them both dizzy, drunk and drowning in the overwhelming amount of love. Both of their heads spun as butterflies filled their stomachs to the brim, even threatening to overspill.
It wasn't their fault, they were teenagers who were hopelessly in love.
"I swear, typing in the wrong number and texting you is the best thing I've ever done," Finn murmured, his fingertips lingering by the skin of her cheeks, setting it on a blazing and raging fire under his touch.
"Ever better than going to McDonald's and asking for a happy meal with extra happy?" She asked, playfully glancing up at the boy through her lashes.
He sighed, shaking his head and smiling gently.
"Yes, Alex, even better than going to McDonald's and asking for a happy meal with extra happy."
