Chapter Twenty

I was more adamant after my conversation with Klaus to talk to Caroline and that's what most likely made me run over to the boarding house where she was.

"Damon, Bonnie wants you to tell her when Elena gets here," Kol said, grinning at his girlfriend from afar.

"Now would be a good time," I spoke, making both boys do a double take in my direction. "Why are you looking at me like that? I've been here the entire time, I even texted Caroline."

"Uh, I'm sorry, Elena."

"Like Damon, I too apologize. All the girls should be upstairs, by the way," Kol agreed, smiling and guiding me up the stairs.

"I'm fine, I can head—"

"Nonsense, I want to," Kol shrugged, "it's the least I can do, after all."

"Thank you," I responded right away, before stepping into the room where everyone was and wishing him "good day."

"Have fun," Kol said and gave heart-eyes to Davina, causing the rest of us to giggle.

"He really does love, Davina. I don't think he's ever been in a serious relationship."

"Well, the feelings are mutual," Davina muttered, blushing as she avoided our eye contact. Keeping a close eye on me, Davina started a calming spell on me, but Bonnie joined in not long after, and Caroline was soothingly rubbing my back.

Davina had finished the spell and her and Bonnie sat down and Caroline was now sitting next to me with her head rested on my shoulder. Everyone was just relaxing until Bonnie was about to speak, finally doing so. We were waiting for her to say what was on her mind, but it took her awhile to get the words out.

"I hope you liked the necklace!" Bonnie exclaimed, reaching out to touch it once again. "It looks completely natural on you!"

"Thank you! I would probably be a lot more anxious if it weren't for you, Bonnie," I replied politely, wishing something would happen to point me in Stefan's direction. It had been too long since he left, it hurt a lot more than I had been willing to let on. There was so much pain that it made me realize something, he was one of the few that ever truly loved her.

"Damon, come bring me a water please!" I heard Bonnie yell and that brought me out of my trance.

"Of course, Bon!" Damon hollered back.

"Do you guys want anything?" Bonnie asked.

"I'm good!" Davina replied back.

"Okay!" Bonnie said, shooting a look in my direction.

"Thank you, Damon," Bonnie said, once he made is way up there.

"Anything for you!"

"Why are you guys so cute?" Davina asked, her gaze lingering on Damon after he left the room.

"What makes you think that?" Bonnie muttered to herself, smiling slightly as we all nodded our heads in agreement and in a moment, her face became tomato red.

Even though I felt hurt at how lovey-dovey all my friends were being, I couldn't help but feel happy for them. Giggling slightly, I started to tease the girl who I hoped one day would be my sister-in-law about how in love she was. It didn't take them long for their eyes to follow the sound that escaped my lips, three heads turned in my direction.

As my giggles were softening and coming to a stop, Caroline gave me a hug and ran her fingers through my hair, which calmed me down greatly.

"I love you so much!" Caroline told me, giving a small smile as she backed away.

"I love you too, Care."

"You almost like to remind me. Why don't you ever shut up about it?"

"What do you mean? Oh, that's easy. You're a great person, I want you to know that. I also want you to do how deeply you are loved!" I answered, describing every little reason why I loved her.

"Yeah, I could say the same thing about you," Caroline smiled, rubbing my shoulders. "I just want you to know how thankful I am for you," she whispered, her hands still soothingly rubbing my shoulders, always trying her best to calm me down.

"That makes me feel good," I whispered, trying to hold back the tears she was making appear in my eyes. Caroline sat back down finally and not long after they were interrupted by Davina.

"The last thing I want is to cut this short, but Kol and I need to leave, guys," Davina said, heading downstairs.

"Yeah, and I think it's best if we go too. We still have that lunch to get to, remember?" Caroline added, smiling at everyone around else as Davina went to get her stuff.

"I guess you're right, well, it seems all of us are leaving. I'll see you guys later," I answered, smiling sweetly at the girls I considered myself lucky to be my friends as I walked out with them, biting down on my lip.

"Bye" slipped out of Davina's mouth, holding hands with Kol as they walked back to the car.

"Do you still believe Stefan's going to come back, D? I just don't want anyone to get hurt, you know that," Kol said as guided her inside the vehicle and started to drive away.

"I know you do, I just know how much this is hurting her."

"Elena, you seemed to be in a hopeless romantic mood tonight! I know I probably wouldn't be like this if I was going through what you were, is everything okay?" Caroline questioned, watching me as I just smiled at Bonnie.

"I just want you guys to be in love without me ruining it, so I want you guys to enjoy it."

"Aw, you're adorable. Who knew, Elena Gilbert, a sap! Although, this will be good when it comes to planning the wedding," Bonnie told me. "You sound like me, after I realized I was in love with Damon, it's crazy!"

This made me smile. If there was one thing that made Bonnie the most excited about life was her love with and for Damon. My two best friends had fallen in love with Klaus and Damon at the same time, but even years later they still acted like little girls in love. No one could stir them away from it despite everyone's bad judgment on their boyfriend, that's what happens when you're in love, isn't it?

"I guess I just love the thought of my best friends in love, even if I can't be with the person I love. Do you care if I run back inside since I forgot my purse?" I responded, trying to keep my mind off of how bad I was actually missing Stefan.

"Of course I don't, but I would rush. I don't want us to be late for the reservations."

I was hoping I would pass the test and smiled at her before running in and out to grab my purse, which was pink and silver leopard-print.

"I'm ready to go!"

"Oh, Elena. You truly do have the best style when it comes to clothes you look absolutely gorgeous!" Caroline giggled, pulling me with her and Bonnie into the car.

"Okay, have you come up with anything else you want to do for the wedding?" I asked as Bonnie and Caroline were currently munching on the food we were eating at the restaurant.

"Nothing that I haven't told you," Caroline commented, looking back at me while sipping on her drink.

"Okay, so I was thinking about what colors you could possibly want. For bridesmaids and flower girls, you could do silver and navy blue, what I want to know what you think," Bonnie said.

"Please me honest with me, did you plan the wedding to help with bringing Stefan back?" I asked, looking her in the eye.

"Oh, I don't think that's it at all. Elena, I think we're all just at a point in everyone's life where we just have to remind everyone how much we love them," Bonnie said, nodding along as she said so.

"But I do think that the wedding would be the perfect thing to possibly get him back and get my mind off of everything," I declared, looking back at Bonnie.

"At least we're all here together and each other's best friends to get us through this rough time," Bonnie smiled, trying to make me feel better.

"You are right about that, Bonnie. I always have appreciated how optimistic you are when things seem to be going wrong, that's one of the things I'd always loved about you," Caroline said, deepening the smile that was already on her face.

"So back to the wedding, I was also thinking about how many people you wanted to invite," Bonnie said. "I mean, there's a lot of Mikealsons. You have to take into account their significant others, also. It can't hurt having extra seats, after all knowing Klaus, all of New Orleans may be invited. If we overestimate then we won't have to worry about having enough, and I'd rather have that happen than anything else."

"That's smart, Bon," I smiled, "that's a good way to look at it, especially considering who the groom is."

"I like that idea," Caroline glowed, excited to go back and tell Klaus since she had gotten ideas for the wedding us. Suddenly I could tell she felt a lot happier than she did before and couldn't wait for her wedding day.
