Chapter Seventeen

"Elena, slow down. What do you mean you saw Stefan's doppelgänger?" Bonnie asked, trying to figure out what I was talking about. Caroline and Bonnie were currently sitting with Klaus and Damon as I filled them in on what happened once Stefan's brother and the witch left the high school.

"I mean, I saw his doppleganger that ran into me when I went to the bathroom. What else do you think I mean?" I asked, watching Bonnie as she tried to put the pieces together in her head.

"Yeah, I know what you mean. Isn't it a little weird that he's a paramedic, which fits along the pediatrician job that Stefan wanted before he turned?" Bonnie asked, which caused me to smile at the thought of the both of us as doctors.

"Believe me, Bonnie, I thought about it all! It still feels like it's some separation-anxiety-induced fantasy," I said, nodding along to make sure she was getting it all.

"That's really weird!" she exclaimed before her attention shifted to everyone else in in the room. "What makes it even odder is the fact that he showed up right after you got the letter!"

"Yeah, that's what makes it weird. It's almost as though he had some weird doppelgänger telepathy with Stefan," Damon said, resting his hand on Bonnie's knee and smiling at her.

"Who knows? After all, they are practically the same person. What do you guys think?"

"Elena, what exactly did the letter say?" Klaus chimed in, raising his eyebrows at me.

"It was a song that played when we danced, and I had my humanity off. Do you want to see?"

"I'm sure the dance was perfection. I would love to see the letter, please. Thank you," Klaus replied, taking it from my hand and smiling gratefully in my direction. "Did you find anything else while you were at the school?"

"No, we didn't, and as for the dance, it was. Kol, do you have anything you want to add?" I smiled, taking the letter back from the hybrid and awaiting more questions.

"No, I think I'm good."

"Elena, have you heard anything else about Stefan since before you found out he was in Texas? I need all the information possible to help you guys," Kol mumbled, sitting at the table all around us as we came up another plan of action, Davina's hand on his shoulder behind him.

"I haven't, but I do know the next place he was planning on going was Louisiana," I shrugged, looking at everyone around the table, considering they all had their notepads out. "That's all I know! I just really want him to come back to me! It didn't hurt this much the first time."

"Elena, has my brother tried to contact you in any other ways we don't know about?" Damon asked, leaning towards me.

"No, not that I haven't told you guys. I don't think he's contacted any of you, and you wouldn't tell me, but has he?" I whispered to everyone at the table afraid of their answer.

"No! Elena, if that were the case, I would've told you. We could always do anything locator spell to see if he moved."

"What do you think?" Damon asked, looking back and forth between me and the witches at the table.

"What do you all think is best? Klaus, what would you say?"

"Personally, I would do the spell. After that, I can contact people I know there to keep an eye out on him."

"I'm okay with that! As long as Bonnie and Davina are, as well," I told them, looking in their direction. "Are you guys?"

Watching both of the girls as they moved, I saw that they were going to get the spell book and candles, a small smile finding its way onto my face as I realized how lucky I was to have them. Bonnie came back looking scatterbrained, yet completely determined to help me. Davina, on the other hand, still had that look of determination, but looked less confused. Moving away from the table, we all let them set up. They both held hands and was currently chanting, as though they had been doing this for years, instead of one month; I was truly amazed.

"Thank you for doing this to get my brother back, Bon," Damon whispered, trying to keep from distracting her. I smiled at everyone around me, not knowing what I would do without them. They were truly the reason my humanity was staying intact while Stefan's was gone.

Suddenly, the candles went out and the spell was finished. Wondering what they had discovered, I went over to them and asked. Both of the girls gasped at my touch and they seemed to not want to tell me what they saw.

After they finished with the spell, we all went back the living room. Damon had given Bonnie a piggyback ride there, as well as the other couples.

"You guys are all so adorable; I love it," I squealed, watching them with a laugh. As those words left my mouth, Bonnie lifted me up and put me on her back. "Bonnie, why are you doing this?"

She just chuckled and brought me to the couch. I slipped off of her back and slid back down to sit.

"Elena, she's your best friend. She's gonna make sure you get everything you want," Damon said, answering the question I posed at his girlfriend.

"That's because we're epic," I winked, smiling at everyone around me. Caroline started laugh, which made me do so. I was truly happy when I was surrounded by them; they were like family.

"Now if any ship is epic, it's me—"

"Shut up! Haven't you heard of the power of friendship?" Klaus asked, joining the conversation and rolling his eyes at the Salvatore.

"Yes, I have. Which is why I haven't gotten jealous of Elena because I know how much they mean to each other. After all, I have the same thing with Enzo," Damon replied, smiling at Bonnie and me.

"You wish you had the same thing with Enzo. How dare you question anything could be as good as Bonnie and Elena?" Klaus replied.

"I know, shame on me. I won't make the same mistake again; forgive me," Damon told Klaus, pretending to pout.

"Of course, I do. I just expect you not to make the same mistake again, okay?"

"Yes, yes I do."

"Well, I'm sorry to cut this little 'argument' short, but I have a dinner to get to with my girlfriend," Klaus said, smiling at everyone in the room, and then going to kiss the blonde's head.

"It's a good thing you are because I don't think Damon would be able to let this go," I muttered, smirking. "Anyway, I guess we should be saying our goodbyes now, right?"

"I guess so because you're probably leaving after," Damon smirked, which caused a chuckle to escape my mouth since that was his way of kicking me out.

"Whatever Bonnie wants," I winked, and walked the Mikealsons and their significant others out, leaving shortly after myself.
