I walked into class, feeling excited. I mean, can this get any better? We haven't stopped texting or calling each other since our date. It's getting to the point that I don't even feel bad for doing it.
I placed my bag next to me as I sat down in my original seat, in between Seth and Renee. A few minutes later, he walked in. I watched as he walked up to his desk, standing in front of the class. I felt my lips automatically form into a smile.
His eyes roamed the room until they found me but instead of smiling back, he frowned and turned his back towards me, writing on the board. Well, that's strange. Maybe he wasn't looking at me.
"Pull out your books and copy notes. Chapter 10." I tried again to smile at him, only for him to shrug it off again and just sit at his desk. I leaned towards Renee as I grabbed my book. "Did you see that?"
"See what?" "I tried smiling at him twice and nothing.. Do you think I did something wrong?" She shook her head and shrugged "Maybe he's just having a hard day." "He would've told me about it." I heard her chuckle "Nikki, you talk to Roman but you can't forget he's also your professor. And his job is stressful. If he is having a bad day, he'll tell you about it later, when he's not at his job."
I looked back up at the desk again, watching him type away on his computer. "I guess you're right, he's probably having a bad day." "Yeah, don't think about it too much." Right.. But how am I supposed to do that when I'm already thinking about it too much?
I grabbed my pen and notebook from my bag, realizing that I forgot my book back at the dorm. "Shit." Renee looked over at me. "What?" "I forgot my textbook in the room. Mind sharing?" She shrugged "No." She placed the book in between us, turning the page to chapter 10.
"Nikki, where is your text book?" I looked up at him, not even noticing that he was standing in front of me. "I-I left it." "Where?" "In my dorm, Professor." I watched him close his eyes, almost in frustration. What is with him today? "Don't let it happen again." I nodded as he turned and walked away.
Renee leaned over "Okay, something is definitely up with him." "I know." I watched as he sat back down at his desk, his chair turned to the board. I couldn't even focus on the notes.
I watched as he looked at the board, as if he was thinking deeply about something. The bell rang, snapping back to reality. I didn't even realize what time it was. I closed my notebook and placed them in my bag.
Seth and Renee were about to leave when I grabbed Renee's arm. "Hey, I'll catch you guys later, okay?" I eyed Roman and she nodded, leaving with Seth. I swung my bag on my shoulder and walked up to his desk, his back facing me.
"Professor?" Nothing.. I looked around making sure no one else was in the classroom. "Roman." He turned around, his eyes questioning me. "Nicole." I looked at him "Is something wrong?" He rubbed his face, slowly. His hands sending me into a slight sway. "I don't know what you mean."
"Well, you seemed a bit off today.. with me, I mean." He stood up from his chair, walking up to me. I looked up at him, his eyes locking me in. "And why do you think that, Ms.Colace?" Oh god. "I-I don't.. I don't know."
He stepped even closer to me, so close I could smell his cologne mixing with his minty breathe sending my head into a daze. "Do I still make you nervous, Nikki? Are you scared of me?" I couldn't answer, I just stared at him, drinking in his scent. "Are you scared of me?"
I shook my head, my eyes locked on him. "No." "Good, today hasn't been a good day, work-wise.. but none of it involves you.. You are an entirely different situation." "I hope that's a good thing." "It's a great thing."
He leaned in, and for a second I thought he would kiss me but he kissed my forehead. "We'll talk later tonight." I smiled even though my heart was deflated. "Okay, later." I stepped away from him, the butterflies having a party in my stomach. I looked back at him once more before walking out of the classroom.
