A Poem of Surrender
Always keep your head down,
Don't look at the monster in the eye.
They always want to see
The terror they have enticed.
Always look down,
Don't try anymore to say another word.
To be rebellious is a glory, a victory
But not this time,
Not against this monster.
Words have always been your weapon,
But now they fall limp in your mouth;
They taste sour on your tongue.
Always keep your head down,
Because you have caused a tremor
In the beast's chest.
Succumb to the wrath, keep low;
Rather be silent,
Than be hanged for speaking your mind.
Simple mistakes, big consequences;
Life's own little irony.
Wrong words, it's all your fault;
Listen to the beast,
Or die.
Maybe we were never meant to speak our mind,
Because there will always be someone
Who won't hear our cries of pain,
As we look into the eyes
Of the beast we ourselves
Have summoned.
