Asking

A few days after that, I heard that I got the position.

I told Lilith, Randall and Hamish when we were in the Den. "Right on, Maze!" Randall said, giving me a hug. Lilith gave me a smile where she sat, "Great news!" She exclaimed excitedly. Hamish gave me a kiss on the forehead, saying, "I never doubted that you'd get it," He said.

Their support gave me confidence that I hadn't felt in a long time. We all went to the Blade and Chalice to celebrate. Randall and Hamish went to the bar to order drinks while Lilith and I went to our designated spot; a booth in the back. I sat across from her where I had perfect view of the door, and Lilith having perfect view of the bar where the guys were at. I saw her staring over there, so naturally I craned my neck to see what—or rather who—she was staring at.

"Careful, if you stare any longer, you'll burn a hole in Randall's hoodie," I said, grabbing the sugar packets to organize. "And he wouldn't like that very much,"

Lilith snapped her gaze to mine when I looked up at her. "What?" She asked, obviously caught off guard.

"You were looking hardcore at Randall," I specified. "Do you like him?" I asked, to which she looked at me in faux disgust. "What? No," She said, moving her hair over her shoulder. "Fuck you," Lilith looked away, crossing her arms over her chest, hiding her flushed face. I gave a shrug just as the guys came back and sat down; Hamish next to me and Randall next to Lilith. I noticed how Lilith reacted to that, she moved her body to face his a fraction of an inch; classic sign that someone likes another person.

Hamish draped his left arm over the back of the booth, my right hand in is left as we sat there waiting for our drinks. It wasn't long before our drinks made it to the table. I noticed that my drink was my absolute favorite; and also happens to be the first drink Hamish had made for me.

I looked at him, taking the drink in my hand. "You remembered?" I asked, feeling touched by this. "Of course, I did," Hamish said, taking a sip of his choice drink—a glass of whiskey—and looking over the rim at me. Randall had chosen a tall glass of beer, and had ordered Lilith the same.

I took a sip of the Rum Sunset he had ordered for me. It was good, don't get me wrong, but Hamish's and my Grandmothers version were so much better.

"So, what are we gonna be doing?" Lilith asked. Randall and I gave a shrug at the same time. "I don't know." Hamish replied, then looked at me. "What did you want to do?"

I hated being put on the spot. "Hmm," I hummed, giving it some thought. "What about we just sit here and get drunk? We all deserve it," I said, taking a drink of my cocktail. "Not a bad idea," Randall piped up, drinking his beer.

Music was playing in the background, and I heard a song I didn't think a bar would ever play. "Oh, I love this song," I said, referring to the song playing. The song happened to be by one of my favorite bands that I like to listen to when I am on my sad or in-love binges. Or just in general.

I closed my eyes to the song Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. I haven't heard songs from them in forever, and was glad whoever has control of the music in this bar had great taste. Randall shook his head and was smiling at Hamish just as Lilith was trying to listen to the song. "I think I remember hearing this when I was younger," She said.

I started to hum to the song, resting my head against Hamish's arm. Hamish moved his arm and dragged me to my feet. "What are you doing?" I asked. Hamish didn't respond, only pulling me close to him, his hands at my hips. I wrapped my hands around his neck as he slowly swayed us to the song. I swayed with him slowly.

"I don't quit know how to say how I feel," I began to whisper-sing, my head against Hamish's chest. "Those three words I said too much, are not enough," I sang slightly off-key quietly. I've never really sung in front of anyone, and if I did, they are the closest people in the world to me.

I stopped singing when it came to the chorus, listening to Hamish's heartbeat through his chest. Hamish hummed to the song, though I am pretty sure he doesn't know the song. The music he listens to is nowhere close to this.

"All that I am, all that I ever was," He sang softly, catching me by surprise. "Was here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see,"

I looked up at Hamish then, who gave a smile. "I didn't know you knew who Snow Patrol was," I said, slightly shocked.

"I don't," Hamish confessed. "I might have looked in your phone to see what songs you listened to," He said with a sheepish smile. I gave a chuckle. Yes, for a split second, I was pissed, but it faded when I saw the intent he had.

"You took the time to actually listen to some of my music?" I asked on a more serious note. Hamish nodded his head. "This song amongst a few others were on your replay list, so I took the time to listen to them when I was grading papers or working out," Hamish said, looking at me in the eyes.

The song faded, and a new one came on—What About Us by Pink. "You shared those songs to the person who controls the music here, didn't you?" I asked, feeling happy that he actually cared enough to do this.

Hamish gave a nod. "I did," He confirmed. We were still swaying in a slow circle. My eyes started to water as I looked up at him. "Thank you," I whispered. "I don't deserve this, but thank you,"

"What makes you think you don't deserve this? If anything, you deserve the whole world—Christ, the whole galaxy," Hamish said, cupping my face. Hamish was looking at me for the longest time. I have never been happier than in this moment, dancing in the middle of a bar with the man that I lo- that I liked a lot.

The song ended and a new one came one; this one gave me goosebumps whenever I heard it. It was from the movie The Greatest Showman. The song was Rewrite the Stars by the actor Zac Efron and actress Zendaya. I know it's lame, but the song has a message that I loved.

I closed my eyes, leaning my head into Hamish's hand. Opening my eyes, I saw Hamish looking down at me with a soft smile on his face, waiting for my answer. "I just think that I haven't earned it yet," I said honestly, finally answering Hamish.

Hamish shook his head, the smile still on his face. "I love how modest you are, Mazikeen," He said, saying my name affectionately. "You offer so much more than you can give, and I love how honest you are, and how you're always so forgiving and resilient despite the situation," He said, stroking his thumb across my cheek slowly.

I looked away. "Mazikeen, what I'm trying to say is that-" He cut himself off, struggling with the words. I looked back at him, a tear escaping my eye. "Is that I love you and only you."

I gaped at him for a moment. "You do?" I asked. Hamish nodded. "I do love you, Z. I've loved you ever since the day I took you to my apartment—well, actually before that." Hamish corrected himself, laughing. "I fell harder when you asked for a Rum Sunset instead of water," He said. "You spoke my language," Hamish whispered, half-jokingly and half-lovingly.

I started to cry. Not the ugly crying, but the type where the tears just fall; no sobbing needed. I hugged Hamish tightly. "You're speaking my language right now," I said, meaning the music playing, which switched to Shallow by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga from their movie A Star is Born.

Hamish smiled, but his eyes showed a slight sadness. I knew what I needed to say. "Hamish, I love your sense of humor. And I love how smart you are and how caring you can be." I said, smiling through my tears. "I love how kind, compassionate, and loving you are and how jealous you can get," I laughed, making him laugh with me. "Hamish, I love you, I always had, since the moment I saw you in the forest when you found me," I laughed at the memory when I briefly thought he might've been gay only because of how he acted; not seeming to be bothered by how naked I was. If I knew what I know now, it would make sense.

Hamish gave me a big smile, and bent down to kiss me. I kissed him back. I vaguely heard Randall and Lilith whooping in the background. Hamish pulled back, breaking the kiss. "I'm glad you feel the same way," He said, sounding relieved as he gave a laugh. Hamish grabbed my hand, leading me back to the booth and letting me sit by the window where I was sitting before Hamish grabbed me to go dance.

"So, is it official, dude?" Randall asked Hamish with a smirk. Hamish then looked down at me.

I looked between the three werewolves, saying, "What more do you want?" I said.

Lilith nodded her head in agreement. She took a drink of her beer and said, "They just confessed their undying love for each other. I think that's pretty damn official," She said.

"I was talking about are they boyfriend slash girlfriend now, but okay," Randall said, giving a shrug as he took a drink from his own glass. Hamish looked at me when Randall said that. I knew what he was silently asking. "Yes," I said. "I'm pretty sure that what just occurred is a qualification of us now using that label," I laughed, drinking my cocktail.

The rest of the night we drank and talked about what was next on our "to-do list", as Randall calls it.

"Oh, before I forget," I said, looking at all three of them. "This weird kid named Jack came up to me asking if I knew anything about this 'secret society' called the Blue Rose? Or something like that?" I said. My memory was getting pretty fuzzy, but I think I got the name right. All three of them were nodding. "Yup," Randall said, popping the 'p'.

"Everyone here has heard of it. Now," He said, pointing at me with the glass still in his hand. "If it's real or not? Yes, yes, it is because then we wouldn't be here,"

Hamish was nodding. "The society does whatever magic and that's what that ringing is," He said, taking a drink.

I was slowly nodding. "Okay, then why was this Jack kid asking me about it?" I asked, drinking my cocktail.

"Well, not to sound harsh or whatever," Lilith said, clearing her throat. "But you look like you might be in a secret society," She said, her speech impaired just a little bit.

I looked at her. "Well, would it be because I am in a secret society?" I pointed out to her. Her eyes widened in realization as she said, almost sounding sarcastic, "Shit, really? Why didn't you tell us?"

I rolled my eyes and drank the rest of my cocktail. "What are we gonna do about this Jack kid?" I asked. "He's obviously too clever for his own good,"

"He doesn't know about us, so let's not worry about it yet," Hamish said just as Randall said, "He is smart; what if we bring him here, with us instead of those Blue Rose freaks?"

Lilith almost spat out her drink and looked at him while Hamish sat down his whiskey glass, fixing his eyes on his friend. "Now why would we ever do that?" He asked.

"Because it'll be cool to have another werewolf?" Randall said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. I was nodding at what he was saying. "Do you know where he is?" I asked.

"Dude, I'm his RA, of course I know where he is," Randall said, answering my question. Hamish blew out a sigh. "Okay, then keep keeping an eye on him, Randall. We don't want him to know what we are or anything about the Knights of St. Christopher just yet,"
