VI

He was given a tour of the city. Isa introduced him to Milo, and she showed him daily life of the citizens, as well as their newfound freedom to build. It ended near the evening, as the sun created a beautiful blend of colors in the sky. Before she headed off, she offered Lukas a place to stay near the lake, in which he humbly accepted. He would stay for the night before leaving tomorrow morning.

This place had definitely changed. Isa was more open, breaking out of her previous restricted demeanor. And yet, despite their lack in a grand palace, was blessed with freedom and joy.

Lukas set his things on the bed and rolled his shoulders, taking a seat, his muscles relaxing. He'd been walking around all day and didn't realize how sore he was. But despite that, part of him urged to get outside, to see some more of the place before he headed off tomorrow.

He closed the door behind him and let out a breath. The sound of rippling water in the midst of the silence rang in his ears. A few people earlier had introduced themselves to him and thanked him. Luckily, it was only one or two at a time, so he was able to handle it.

His footsteps trampled the dirt as he walked by the lake shore. Sugar canes were growing at the sides, and he could see some fish swimming rapidly in the shallow portions of the water.

Something rustled behind him, making him turn, completely alert now.

"Oh-Lukas! Um, hey." Maya stammered nervously. Gil hesitated before waving.

He shook his head, blinking, nothing dangerous.

"Hey." He replied, voice straight.

It felt awkward. The silence seemed to exhaust him. He just wanted out. He had already dealt with Aiden, and now these two? He didn't have the slightest idea how this would play out.

"So...you're back."

"I'm leaving tomorrow."

"Oh." She looked as if she wanted to say more, but held back, mouth in an unsteady line.

Lukas raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to speak.

"How-how are things back home?" Gil asked.

"Fine."

Like hell it was. But he'd rather not engage in a long conversation with the people that betrayed him. Whether he liked them or not, they were enemies. They tried to take over Sky City. They tried to kill Jesse and the four of them for that matter. They did so many things, and yet here they were, standing in front of him, as if nothing ever happened.

"What do you guys want?"

They looked taken aback.

"What?"

"What do want from me? You want me to be your friend again? You want me to get you out of here?"

"No, it's not-it's not like that. We just-" Maya glanced at Gil, an uncertain look on her face, "I don't know. There's been this feeling...it's been with us for a while. We're just looking for some closure."

"So stopping you from taking over and basically destroying Sky City wasn't enough closure, right?" Lukas asked bluntly, raising an eyebrow at their now ashamed expressions. "You want forgiveness, earn it. That's all I'm going to say."

And with that he turned and headed off, dismissing them with silence, footsteps once again marking themselves along the lake.

Part of him felt angry, another part felt ashamed. He stopped walking for a moment, taking a large breath and exhaling, calming his mind. The quiet was nice, it reminded him dimly of his home.

He shook his head. Was it right, sending them off like that?

Well, it was done. Nothing he could do about it now.

A vibrant laugh rang in his ears. There was a woman, sitting on a block of dirt, surrounded by a few pigs and a chicken, who were playing around her. Her dark hair fell to the side, hands settled in her lap.

She turned to face him, green eyes sparkling as she smiled at him.

"Hey Lukas!" Jesse exclaimed, waving. "What are you doing here?"

Something caught in his throat, and he froze, the vision before him disappearing, as if it were a glitch. In her place was Isa, waving gently at him.

He felt himself get hot, sweat beginning to bead. He ran a hand through his hair and sighed.

These visions. These damn visions.

"Sit with me, Lukas."

He had no reason to object.

They sat in silence. But for some reason, it seemed different. It was different. The tense, nagging feeling pulling him down wasn't there anymore. The pressure became light as a feather on his shoulders.

He watched hazily as the pigs snorted and took some carrots from Isa'a hand.

"I saw you talking with your old friends." She stated calmly, hiding the sliver of interest.

"I wouldn't say it was the happiest of reunions." He replied, shrugging. "I didn't plan on meeting them."

"Well, it was deemed inevitable, right? It's a small world we have Lukas. It's not like fate to keep you apart."

His eyes turned to his feet, the grass growing beneath them.

"Can I ask you something?" Lukas questioned, not making eye contact. "Why did you give them a second chance?

"They betrayed you, took advantage of your trust, created harm for your people, destroyed your city, what made you against locking them up? Sending them to exile? You gave them a home, another opportunity."

Exactly like Jesse would have done, he thought unwillingly.

"I had a feeling you would ask that." Isa let out a light sigh, finishing feeding another carrot. "To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it's my nature, maybe I'm just too soft...but mainly, I think it's because, without them, or you for that matter, we wouldn't have what we have today."

Lukas looked up from the ground, surprise etched across his face.

"All that we've suffered, all that we've been through," she exclaimed, somewhat of a grin spreading across her lips, "I don't regret it at all."

I just got slapped in the face with writer's block...pls help
