"Don't do it. Please."

"I'm sorry, but I have too."

He said without a hint of sympathy for his comrade. It wasn't that long had they fought along together to hunt down the monsters living inside the fog but they also never talk with each other either. They were merely co-workers given a task of venturing into a monster infested forest filled with deadly miasma that's currently killing his most important person.

Without wasting a second, he removed the oxygen tank from the corpse with quick efficiency and quickly after that left the body with no time to spare. He carried the oxygen tank and mask in his arms towards another body not far away.

The body laying on the ground was still breathing but with difficulty. The tube connecting his gas mask to his tank was torn by a beast's claw and his oxygen tank was almost emptied. Once the man crouched down next to the body did he showed a sign of humanity.

There were 20 knights with a well known captain with great achievements as their leader. In the end they were reduced to 3-no 2 within 16 hours. They fought hard and manage to complete their task but with a big loss.

1 hour ago they killed the monster who had been releasing the miasma for the past century. 40 minutes ago did he realised there's something wrong with his captain. 20 minutes ago did his captain collapsed. 15 minutes ago he and another knight were stricken with panic on what to do, fearing for their captain. 5 minutes ago he killed a man.

He replaced his captain's gas mask with the one he took earlier. He stared at the man breathing in and out, slowly, still breathing, STILL ALIVE. After reassuring himself did he finally sighed in relief.

He did a final check on both of their equipment: looking for any tears or damages. Both of their oxygen tanks were half full, enough to last until they reach the outer area of the miasma.

He removed the damaged oxygen tank before fastening the newer one onto his captain's back. He slung his captain's arm around his shoulder and slowly stood up carrying not only both of their weight but the equipment as well.

He bypassed his sword that's currently lodged between the ribs of a once breathing living comrade and only thought how he hope there won't be any monsters attacking them along their way.
