"The guffawing high school boy chunked the ball of crumpled paper toward the trash can, but it hit the rim and fell to the floor instead."

Do you see what I'm getting at here?

People often use the word "chunk" to mean, "to throw."

I would chalk it up as a typo if I didn't see this in plenty of different author's fics.

The correct term would be "chuck," as shown below:

For example:

"The guffawing high school boy chucked the ball of crumpled paper toward the trash can, and it went right in, eliciting cheers from all of his classmates."
