cliché #2

Good girl and bad boy cliché.

This was another request and to be quite honest, I really hate this cliché because

A. It chalks the girl down to always having to be rescued by the bad boy

B. Extremely overused and it is the same exact plot in every story

And

C. The characters are flatter than a freaking ironing board.

To begin with, let me just summarize this cliché if you don't know about it (though I don't know how you wouldn't).

Minty Oreo is a good girl, she gets perfect grades, is perfectly content in her own little world, is often times nerdy and/or a strict rule follower. Cookie Dough is a bad boy, he idolises Chris McCandless and says 'fuck the rules' though he probably won't be going to Alaska like chris. He, for a reason often times glazed over, somehow gets attached to Minty Oreo and starts to see protecting her from the bad, bad world as his priority in life like some creep. But, since Cookie is one incredibly and unrealistically hot individual of the opposite sex (there should be some lgbt+ pairings for these tbfh) Minty will try to ignore some of the bizarre shit Cookie does unlike a normal person who would probably report some of the stuff they do.

Eventually Cookie saves Minty and they fall in love and live happily ever after.

How to fix this:

So to be honest, I would love to see the good girl bad boy cliché just ripped into shreds, put through a shredder, burn those scraps, and then just dispose of the ashes because
IT
IS
SO
TERRIBLE.

if you absolutely must subject Minty and Cookie to these god awful stereotypes of boys and girls in literature, make it different. Instead of Cookie being super rad and badass and saves Minty 24/7 make Minty save Cookie instead while staying as the good girl. Have Minty break the stereotypes for women/girls in this cliché and just be this ultra badass chic who makes perfect grades, is on the honor role and is just a really swell girl to get to know.

For Cookie, he can remain ultra badass but in reality he could be a very clumsy kid who tries to look really awesome but is just a freaking mess and when Minty saves him from something embarrassing their friendship starts and take every single little cliché from this stupid cliché and reverse the roles but don't force anyone into the meek little timid kid role. That's the most boring role.

For bad boy bad girl and tomboy girl and bad boy, don't shove them into stereotypical roles and make them actually have personality. Honestly, you could do anything to make this cliché your own but no one has taken the chance of making a creative story for this cliché.

I hope this was helpful, have a good day ❤
