the absolute worst thing about writing is getting into the slump. here's how i get out of it!

1 - reread what you have already written.

sometimes i start to get nostalgic about something i've written before. remind myself of the state i was in when writing it especially if it's something i'm proud of, whether it's a line or a paragraph or a whole chapter or book. find something you've written before (usually the same book you're struggling with) that you liked. it will remind you of the pacing you were at. since it's probably been a while, it's like you're seeing it with fresh eyes. you might find plot holes or things you forgot to explore later on that you never did.

2 - based on that^, take notes on what you've reread

take notes to see what you can change. sometimes i'm in a slump because i don't know where to go from here. rereading allows me to see where i was going and pull from there to see where i can go now. i use my bored to do that.

3 - create a playlist if you like to listen to music

get into the vibe of your story. some people make a playlist for their book and it's already added to their book. if you have one, listen to it while rereading or listen to it while writing. if you don't have one, then you can create one on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes etc! if you don't know any songs that fit the vibe of your story, or are too lazy to make one, or whatever, there are tons of playlist on youtube with titles like "playlist for the romantic" "playlist that makes you feel like the main character" and so much more that could be exactly what you're looking for.

4. create themes or just make a pinterest board of the aesthetics of your character to see that world come to life. if you already made them, look back at it. make a bunch of new ones for fun and to brain storm.

5. if you're working with a book that you haven't published yet, give it a cover

this may jsut apply to me but all my drafts have no cover. i don't make one until i publish but have some type of cover while in draft to make it feel more real like it is a book. it doesn't have that weird default look but it's something you want to finish

6. if you have a laptop, i find working on my laptop is easier since you can have multiple tabs of other chapters at your access.
