So, the first and most important thing you need to create a good story is a good idea.
It can be anything but make it original, unique, special, so it stands out from every other story.

If you're struggling to find a good idea, just stop and think, 'what kind of book would I like to find on the bookshelf in the library?'

Write what you want to read!
What I'm trying to say is, write something you would love to read.

If you like reading about bad boys, write about bad boys. If you like reading about high school romance, Sports Romance, go and write about it. If you like reading about fantasy worlds, write about them.

This doesn't necessarily mean you have to write what you like to read, but if you write a sports romance novel when you don't like reading them, then that's not going to be very fun.

Remember, you're supposed to have fun while writing a book, and it won't be fun if you write something you have zero interest in.
