two - kiss scenes

what we're gonna talk about here, is not just the kissing. usually, people have this down packed. a lot of authors, however, describe someone's lips the same.

1) describe the look in their eyes before and after the kiss. is it desire, lust, love, passion? are they staring into each others eyes? or at their lips? are they biting their lip or are they parted?

2) describe how their lips feel. how do they taste? please, don't just use the word soft, almost everyone uses this.

3) describe the pace. is the kiss slow and long? or is it aggressive, and fast?

4) describe what they do with their hands, do they bring the other person closer? are they on the others waist or around their torso? are they tangled in the other's hair or are they holding hands?

5) describe how they feel when theyre kissing. are their knees weak and their stomach full of butterflies? are there fireworks? or do they not feel anything at all?

6) describe the emotion. is it an angry kiss where it's hard; fists are grabbing each other; pushing the other against walls; fingers digging into hips; gripping handfuls of hair; but then the kiss melts into a gentle brush of each others lips and they have to catch shaky breaths? or is it a sad kiss where its soft and long and their lips don't move for a long moment because they're so afraid to move and mess everything up; or maybe they're scared the other person might disappear? is it a "I thought I lost you" type of kiss where they both collide with the sheer force of all their physical strength and overwhelming of emotions and the kiss knocks the breath right out of them?

8) is the kiss so intense that they can't open their eyes for a few moments afterward? or do they stare at each other in disbelief or amazement?

9) how does their voice change? does it lower? is it a bit more husky? or is it smooth and controlled?

10) make the scene and background intense, the look in the characters eyes is pulling them together and then they collide. or maybe theyre slowly leaning, scared of chasing the other away.

11) do not - and I mean DO NOT just make it, 'our lips met and we kissed. a moment later we pulled away' your readers have been anticipating this moment for chapters upon chapters, your characters are taking a step into a relationship, make it feel like it's actually happening. instead, tell us what the characters are doing. do they tilt their head? what do they do with their hands?

make - outs

make - out scenes are a little different. they're more intense, faster. if you dont want this to progress, make sure to have an interruption. not exactly someone walks in the room, but something for them to stop. or maybe have them reluctantly pull away, panting and trying to catch their breath.
