twenty one - characters that are written TOO often
1) the female character that doesn't open up and isn't vulnerable in front of acquaintances. I mean, have you EVER met a female character that has just met and male or other female character and asked for advice on a situation or has opened up to them? no? exactly. they say that being vulnerable is a sign of weakness and they don't wanna be weak, but I see it so often, it's becoming annoying. and another thing is that maybe they wont spill their soul out but haven't you ever asked a stranger for advice?
2) that character that isn't afraid. of. anything. i see this often as well. TOO often. The character that could walk into war and come back unharmed, and i don't just mean physically. and when they do it multiple times as well. you don't walk away from war with no scars. that's not how it works. they have to be scared, that makes the character real.
3) that male character that can do no wrong in his lover's eyes. as in, the female (or male, i don't judge) will keep just, running back to him. even when he cheats on her, leaves her on read for multiple hours at a time, is never interested in their conversations, etc. there's a fine line between loyalty and stupidity.
4) the funny characters. i want someone serious. someone who will make you recoil with one glare. that person that will face you with furrowed brows, their lips a bold line and just say something to another character in a deep, serious voice. almost intimidating.
5) the character that gets everything they want. that's boring and will not get you a book. (unless all of it comes with a price during or after) it will be dull and slow and you don't want that. that will make the reader hate the character. cause they're annoying as hell.
6) the main character being the hero. instead of that, have the main character be the sidekick or maybe the villain. after a while, the entire hero story is going to get old and boring. have that small character be the hero and the main the sidekick. i wanna know of a sidekick's story!
7) Instead of having a love triangle, try letting the main character be in one. i see the characters get cocky and arrogant because more than one person likes them and it gets really old after a while. it makes you hate the character and reading the book as well.
