Writing Tip #4
Writing Tip #3: Describe the setting. You want the reader to be able to imagine what the environment the characters are in. Like an abandoned building, a mansion, a plane, a car, a school, a forest, etc. Imagine what the place looks like and even add smells.
Here are an example!
I walked into the dust covered, broken down building and covered my nose and mouth with my shirt sleeve. There were broken pieces of wood on The ground that had probably rotten and fallen from the ceiling. There was a broken table and two chairs, along with a bed that looked like it hasn't been used in decades. The comforter was worn thin from moths and has grown torn, it's previous colours now faded and holes in bits of it. The curtains hung above The broken window were in the same state as the comforter. There was dust was flying everywhere and it smelled like someone had died here. That was probably true. The smell of rotting flesh was so strong that it made my eyes water. Then I found it. Laying in the corner, it's flesh rotten and ants swarming it. Thank goodness it's not a person, just a rat.
That one wasn't the most detailed, but that's fine. You can still get a general idea of the environment. Tell me in the comments if you could somewhat imagine it!
If you have any questions, put them in the comments so I can help you out! :)
