A Brief Introduction
If you were to search "writing style" you might find a lot of results indicating that style is a writer's unique way of saying things. This implies that style is something developed by the individual which cannot, and perhaps should not, be duplicated. But, if that were true, then why do works within a genre often have similar style?
Because style can also mean the way in which a particular type of work is written.
Style is both the way a specific writer writes and the manner in which a work is written. And, sometimes, it's also the way one writes for a particular audience.
This work is an exploration of writing styles so that whoever is writing, whatever they are writing, and whichever audience they are targeting, they can find some guidelines to help develop the style of their work.
There are no rules presented here. This is not a guide for what should or should not be done. There is no absolute right or wrong in style; it's subjective, relative to our tastes, to trends, and to the preferences of our audience. What's here are more...guidelines.
