I stood atop the cliff, watching the sun rise as my torn cape billowed in the wind. All there was left to do was to destroy it all.
I felt a wave of guilt, though I knew what I was doing was right. I had to do it, there was no other way to rid the universe of those..mutants. I had to.
My tense standing position jerked a bit when I heard a familiar voice from behind me. It was my brother.
" .....done with your internal monologue? "
I heard him chuckle as he leaned against his sword. His tone was..surprisingly bitter, had I done something wrong?
I returned with nervous laughter.
" Pff, Of course...."
My smile wavered.
"......Something wrong? "
He shook his head, his smile softening.
" ..No, no, It's fine. I've only come to check up on you. Dinner's ready. "
I return to him with a soft smile, following him home as I thought. He may not know it yet, but when I found that book...
[Woooosh flashback sounds]
" Hey, mom! Look what I found! " I had found big dusty book in the back of the library. When I had asked to check it out, the librarian said it wasn't in their system.
I left the library, hiding the book in my shirt. I remember being so excited to see what was in it, and best of all, show my brother!
As I entered our house, almost forgetting to close the door behind me, I sit in the nearest arm chair and wipe some of the dust off of the cover. I stared in awe as my eyes panned over the cover, It was too faded and damaged to read the leather cover, but I hoped the pages were intact. I opened the book, and surprisingly, the pages had only yellowed a bit. I could make out most of the words, and with that I started reading.
The book stated that there was a prophecy to our homelands. That there would be two brothers, and that they were descendents from royalty, but sadly their ancestors had been forgotten.
As I proceeded to read through the first chapter, it kept on about some sort of prophecy, that the younger had to be rid of the world, destroy it all for the greater good, so that everything would have a fresh start, as there were 'unnaturals', who had been causing chaos, and destroying the planet would be the only way to get rid of them. ...reminds me of the news, news reporters and newspapers would be very strict about making sure everybody knew not to cross the magical border that surrounded our town, because it was full of those monsters. I've even heard rumors that even with it, people were going missing because of them. To leave the town was a suicide mission.
I continued to read in excitement, but one specific line burned into my memory:
The brother of the chosen must bring their end.
The line almost made me sick to think about, and made me wonder if it had to do with us. ...after all, with how small our town was, we were the only two who had taken care of the tree in the center of it all. The one with those beautiful apples, the golden and the black, with a luster of purple. My brother and I loved to joke about how the apples almost matched us perfectly, being the fact that the colors almost matched perfectly with our eyes, mine being a tinge of orange-ish yellow, and his being a deep purple-blue. We shook off the thought though, as we didn't want to draw attention to ourselves or become arrogant.
Though, now it made sense. I had to do it, and my brother.. he had to..
My memory was interrupted by his voice.
" Are you coming? It's getting cold. ",
I looked down to my feet, realizing I had paused in my tracks. I nodded silently and entered the kitchen, which had been overloaded by the smell of apple pie.
~Fin, for now.~
Should I just animate Dreamswapswap?
