Popularity is a powerful thing.

The power- the feeling of superiority over those around you is a dangerous thing when given to the wrong hands.

In a high-school setting, a place so crowded and full of so many different minds and personalities, that type of control can be used to build someone up or tear them down.

Two twin sisters held this kind of power.

Grace and Odeline were considered the most popular kids among their peers since elementary and going on to high school. Both were blond with Odeline having hazel-green eyes much like their father while Grace had the blue eyes their mother had.

As they grew older, the two sisters became more and more distinct from each other. Their personalities, tastes in interests and styles were almost opposites.

As Grace could only become nicer, her sister couldn't be any more rotten.

Odeline was the type of person to talk. It didn't matter to her who it was about or how it would affect people; she wanted to know. That gossip that perpetually circled the school was like her daily fill of drama and gaudy rumors.

She wanted that power over people.

She knew where she stood above others.

In her mind, she was the queen.

The only true queen.

And she let it get to her head.

Over time, people realized the terrible person she was once she decided her next target would be her own sister. In her mind, Grace was the person that stopped her from being the only person who was most superior. 

Naturally, this angered many as she was nothing but kind to people. In fact, she was too busy helping those her own sister brought down instead of finding a way to stop her.

It wasn't hard to tell that the attention and dominance clouded her views and choices.

And for once, after holding her tongue for years, Grace spoke up.

The quiet, nice, and friendly blue-eyed girl faced her sister in a tone of anger and disappointment, both caused from the way she treated those around her so... ignorantly. Not only that, but Odeline turning on the girl added more onto it.

From that day on, nobody talked or associated themselves with Odeline. Her words and actions no longer had an effect or hold on anyone anymore. 

She lost her friends.

She lost her popularity.

She lost the power she once had.

Most importantly, she lost her sister.

Grace felt awful for what she caused since she would never wish harm upon someone. But then again, she had it coming; if it wasn't her, it would have been someone else.

As stated before, popularity is a powerful thing.

And in the wrong hands, it can lead to one's destruction. 

it's the type of control that can build someone up.

And bring someone down.
