Prompt 1 : Coffin Conumdrum
Prompt 1 : "You were buried alive in a coma. When you wake up, it's Halloween."
. . .
I was sure this was a dream.
The first thing I noted once I had awoken was how dark the space around me seemed. I strained my eyes to see if I could make a note of anything but failed to do so.
I yawned and stretched, immediately hitting a wall; two to be exact. I tried to get up but hit my head on a roof not too high above me. Confused, I reached out my hand to one side and felt a soft fleece-like material with a hard surface behind it.
Come to think of it, everything was lined with the soft material. The space I was in was tightly packed as well with hardly any room within its confines to move around.
Almost like a coffin.
A chill went down my spine. The air inside seemed colder and thicker than before as a lump formed in my throat.
That couldn't be possible; things like that only happen in movies and TV shows! Surely a prank was being pulled on me or something.
Hesitantly, I felt around and noticed a curve to the roof that was only about an arm's length away. I pressed my hand further to try and see if I could attempt to open the coffin.
It didn't budge.
An overwhelming sense of panic began to settle in. So many questions were racing through my mind.
How long have I been here?
What happens if I run out of air?
Who put me down here?
I tried my hardest to try and make it open, banging my fists on the roof in a desperate attempt to break free. My efforts were fruitless as it felt like trying to break through a cement wall; there was no way I could get out of here. Not on my own, at least.
"Help!" I cried out, hoping someone would hear. "Help me! I'm stuck down here!"
Suddenly, I could hear a voice from above.
"Hey, did you hear that? "
Someone heard! That could mean I'm not too deep underground. Maybe if I-
"Oh, haha. I know that it's Halloween and all, but you don't need to try to scare me while we're walking through this dumb graveyard."
"I'm not trying to scare you. I honestly heard somethi-"
"Dude, c'mon. I just wanna get out of here so we can beat the other kids to the rich houses uptown."
"But-! "
"Seriously, let's just go."
I listened carefully and heard faint footsteps running off. I tried calling out to the people that I heard, but they were already long gone.
Now I'm left here.
Underground.
Alone.
With nobody around to help.
