I have several characters under this category. Speaking for me:

"You really want me to talk about this? Fine," Leahemi, also known as Bass states. "Alright, My natural hair color is not blonde. There I said it. I picked blonde because I thought I looked good as a blonde. There is nothing wrong with that.

It is a similar reasoning or excuse that other characters would do so. It is a choice. Hindering that choice is wrong. Of course you need to be careful about your hair. Other than that, there is nothing wrong about it.

Maybe you can use this to explain the odd choices of hair colors. *coughs the word lime green* But seriously, nobody should hold a disdain for others based on this. It is a choice of your characters. And who knows, they might change their minds and hair colors."

Leahemi inhales. Her eyes gaze on the left wrist. As if a watch is on her, she presses and move her fingers over it. Her body is fazing and fizzling with electronic noise.

Leahemi's skin turned black. Black and blue gases slowly appear to cover her in transparency. That blonde hair turns to jet black. Her eyes remained blue. Her clothes seemed to breathe as gases passes through it. Her mouth opens.

"This is what I really look like. In Science Fiction, this is a possibility. Cloaking, altering one's appearance by science or magic, and/or simply by costume is a few ideas that is the norm. I don't mind these types of characters.

As much as these characters exists, not everyone is into this trend. More than likely, the majority of character should be brunette. After all, dying one's hair is usually within a small number of people in a population. This ties to the fact that whom are rebellious, wanting a different hair color, or those covering up grey hairs on the head.

All three suggests a tie-in to the characteristic of the the character. So here is my suggestion. Before you dye a character's hair, suggest an excuse or reason for it first. Doing without a reason or excuse would lead to a weak character development."

Leahemi changes back to her human appearance.

"Mine is to hide among humanity. My appearance is based on my best friend Fey. As she too a blonde.Perhaps that is why I like the human look."
