For CreggsAndBacon 's Writing Challenge (took me a while to find your new user name!).

Weird Timing for a Halloween story I know 😄. But I am trying to catch up a bit with this book and just had to start somewhere. And the song is actually from 'A Nightmare before Christmas' so it still kinda fits the season 😉. Also, I've promised SchoggoGuchen to write a Plasma oneshot for her.

Theme: This is Halloween!
Pairing: Jay x Kai (and a bit of Cole x Zane)
Setting: This is a Season 1 AU where Jay and Nya have never dated (they are best friends though), but Jay and Kai are. So are Cole and Zane. Everything else is the same. Little Lloyd lives with them but he doesn't appear in the story, so probably Wu took him trick-or-treating or something like that 😉.

This is Halloween!

"This is Halloween. This is Halloween..."
All on his own in the Ninja's bunkroom, Kai was sitting on his bed, his knees brought up to his chest and trying to blank out his boyfriend's rather poor attempt at singing that could be heard all over the Destiny's Bounty. The Master of Fire appeared to be the only person on board this flying ship who was not excited for this particular holiday and the party they had been invited to.
"Halloween. Halloween..." Still 'singing', Jay barged into the boys' shared bedroom, all dressed in his Jack Skellington costume. "Are you ready to paaartyyy?" He excitedly asked his boyfriend, before giving the sulking red Ninja a glance over. "Hey, where's your costume?"
"Over there." Kai pointed at the pile on the floor. "I'm not going." He stated firmly. "Stupid party. And stupid, stupid Halloween.
"Oh." Behind his skeleton mask, Jay's face fell. Halloween was his favourite holiday, even before Christmas. And now he had managed to combine the two with his costume.
Taking off his mask, Jay walked over and placed a hand on the other's shoulder. "What's the matter, hun?" He asked worriedly.
"Nothing." Kai muttered. "Just go and have fun without me."
"But it won't be fun without you." Jay pouted. "I was so looking forward to spending the evening with you."
"Oh, I am sure you're gonna have fun going with my sis."
"What?" Jay asked, slack-jawed. "Is that what's bothering you? You are upset because Nya and I have matching costumes?"
"Maybe..." Kai mumbled.
Earlier this evening, when the Ninja and Samurai had presented their costumes to each other, he had found out that Nya would go to the party as Sally, the rag doll - Jack Skellington's girlfriend. And let's just say, the Master of Fire was not happy about this.
"When I asked you about it, you didn't want us to do matching costumes, but I am not allowed to do it with my best friend either?" Jay asked incredulously.
"When you and Nya turn up to the party like that, everyone will assume that the two of you are dating, and they will be gushing about how cute you are together, and..."
"Are you jealous?" Jay interrupted his boyfriend's rant. "You know that Nya and I are just good friends. Sure I had a little crush on her at the beginning, but then I realised that I only liked her because she is so much like you."
"But still..."
"But sometimes I am seriously wondering if you are just dating me to keep me away from your sister..." Jay's face darkened.
"What?" Now it was Kai's turn to be shocked by the Master of Lightning's remark.
"You are the one who doesn't want to make our relationship public yet, and I don't know why, Our friends are okay with it. And would it really be so bad if our fans knew that all four of their beloved Ninja are gay?"
"Bi." Kai insisted.
"Yeah, whatever." Jay shrugged. "It doesn't really matter. What matters is that you are with someone, and that it freakin' hurts when you keep flirting with those fangirls of yours in front of me whenever we go somewhere. I sometimes really struggle not to yell at them to keep their dirty hands off my boyfriend."
Kai could see some tears pooling inside those stunning blue orbs of his boyfriend's.
"I-I didn't know you feel that way. Why have you never told me before?" He stood up and wrapped the smaller Ninja in a gentle hug.
"Because..." Jay swallowed, burying his face in the other's chest. "I was - still am - not sure how serious you are about us. And... and I'm afraid that, if I put any pressure on you, you might break up with me altogether... so we might just get over with it now."
"Jay." Kai gently lifted the blue Ninja's chin, until their eyes met. "This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I-I am sorry if I've hurt you and if I've given you the wrong impression about our relationship. Sure, I do enjoy the attention I get from our fans, but you are way more important to me than that. Because... I love you, Jay Walker."
"You do?" Jay smiled through his tears.
"I do."
He pressed his lips onto Jay's, and the blue Ninja happily reciprocated.
"I love you too." Jay mumbled against Kai's lips when they finally broke apart.
"Of course you do." Kai smirked. "I am far too fetching. Now, lemme get changed so we can get to that party." He looked at the crumbled vampire costume on the floor. "It is a shame we don't have matching costumes..." He remarked.
"Well, you could..."
"I am not asking my sister to take hers." Kai protested before Jay could finish his sentence.
"I wasn't going to suggest that." Jay chuckled. "Maybe you could ask Lloyd for his skeleton hoodie, although it might be a little snug..."
"You'd like that, wouldn't ya?" Kai smirked.
"Yeah..." A light blush appeared on Jay's freckled cheeks. "But then, it might too difficult to keep those fangirls away from you like that. But I have another idea..."

On deck, Nya, Zane, and Cole were impatiently waiting for their two teammates.
"What's taking them so long?" The black Ninja - or rather the black knight for the evening - asked. "You think that your plan has worked?"
"I sure hope so." Nya replied. "I am fed up with seeing my best friend so upset when my brothers keeps ignoring him in public."
"They have been in that room together for 21 minutes and 43 seconds." Zane, dressed as Cole's white counterpart commented. "44, 45, 46..."
"I am starting to worry that my plan might have worked too well..." Nya interjected.
"In that case, we probably shouldn't wait for them." Cole stated.
"If we want to arrive on time, we should leave within the next two minutes anyway." Zane explained.
"Then, let's just go ahead." Cole suggested. "Would you like to be my date for tonight, Sir Zane?"
"It would be my pleasure, my gallant knight." The Master of Ice gratefully accepted the offered arm. But before the couple could head off, the the two missing Ninja appear from below deck to join their team outside.
"Hey, what are you waiting for?" Jay asked, a wide grin on his face. "We don't want to be late for the party"
"We were just waiting for you." Cole retorted. "Nice costumes, by the way." He remarked, noticing the changed outfits.
"Oooh, you're sooo cute." Nya squealed.
"Thanks." Jay said, slightly embarrassed. "Although I don't think I look too good in red."
"You look great, babe." Kai reassured him while tightening the straps on his blue gi. "Not as amazing as me, but still great."
"So, if you are dressed as each other, that means you are going as an official couple?" Nya enquired carefully.
"Yes." Her brother replied, taking his boyfriend's hand into his. "We're done hiding it."
"I am happy for you." She pulled her brother and her best friend into a tight hug. "Now, shall we?"
"So, as you are the blue Ninja for the night, do you want to try flying my Storm Glider?" Jay suggested to his boyfriend.
"Oh, I'd sure love to do that." Kai seductively winked at him.
"N-not like that." Jay's face turned as red as the gi he was wearing. "I-I meant..."
"I know that." Kai planted a small kiss on the other's burning cheek. "And I would love to try."
"Then, let's go." Pulling his boyfriend along, Jay leaped off the Bounty, and in a blue flash, the lightning fast jet materialises, on its - slightly unsteady - flight to the city. Cole and Zane took the black Tread Assault, while Nya used her Samurai X mech to get to the city.
"This is Halloween. This is Halloween." Jay's cheerful off-tune voice could be heard over the intercom.
"I hate you." Kai groaned.
"No, you dohon't." Jay chuckled. "C'mon. Sing with me. This is Halloween..."
