How to get reads, votes, comments and follows

First of all don't expect to get a ton of reads votes and comments right from the get go, have patience. over time your story will get noticed and if you've done what I mentioned in the previous parts of this book you should gradually get more reads. secondly don't post messages on every chapter reminding your readers to read vote and comment, yes it feels great to look at your notifications and see that you've gotten votes and comments, but if you nag the readers you do have this is more likely to annoy them and possibly drive them away than to actually make them vote and comment on your story.

when you do start getting reads votes and comments try and reply to the comments you get on your book readers like to know that you're paying attention and that you care. If they compliment your writing thank them, if they make a comment you find funny tell them that. if they critique your story don't be rude if someone points out grammar, spelling mistakes or typos that were missed when the chapter was edited acknowledge the mistake and say you will remember that and edit the part again later.

If you write fanfiction and someone points out an inaccuracy from the original plot-line you are going by either explain how what's different is possible or if you just forgot the detail that your reader mentioned tell them that. we all forget things sometimes especially if it's been a while since you've seen the source material you are going off of. it is probably a good idea to double check things you aren't sure of but if you don't and someone points out your mistake don't be rude to them acknowledge your mistake and either fix it or leave it alone if it affects the plot of your story too much.

if you don't change it you will most likely receive more comments pointing out the mistake because readers don't always notice previous comments pointing out mistakes. be nice and explain why you can't change it. by either replying to their comment or posting a short authors not explaining it on the next story part, for that matter you could do both so all your readers will understand.

Another thing is that you should make sure that you remember what happened in previous chapters or at least refer back to the previous chapters if you don't remember everything. For example if you killed a character in chapter ten but in chapter thirty you decide to have them do something explain how they are back. if you forget what happened in previous chapters readers will probably be confused and comment wondering how the character is back.

if you forgot that you killed the character admit to that and edit the previous chapter so they didn't die or come up with something new explaining how the person is back. if you continuously forget what happened in previous chapters or decide to change the plot don't leave your readers lost and confused explain what happened and edit your story to make it flow properly so it makes sense. either that or explain that you're going to rewrite the story your readers will probably be a little disappointed but they will switch to the new version as you post it.

Lastly don't take ages to post new chapters,I'm kind of being a hypocrite here since it's been a while since I've updated some of my stories but I also hate that I'm leaving my readers hanging the way I am. I understand that it isn't always easy to come up with new chapters and that life can get in your way but if you don't update for months or even years purely out of laziness some readers may give up on your story assuming you've abandoned it. If you have a legit reason for not being able to update tell your readers why. but if you post several authors notes apologizing for not updating this can get annoying and might very well cause some readers to give up on you.

So in a nutshell be patient you will gradually get readers as you post new chapters and people notice your story. Respond to comments, if you are nice to your readers they will return the favor by continuing to read your story as well as voting, commenting, and following you. Don't nag your readers, if they like your story they will vote and comment on it. nagging them will only annoy them. Acknowledge your mistakes. don't be rude to someone who's critiquing you. if you accept what they're saying the constructive criticism will help you improve, most commenters don't intend to upset or offend you. If they they are the ones that are actually wrong explain why but don't be rude about it. Don't lose track of what you have written in previous chapters this will just annoy or confuse your readers. If you decide to change the plot of your story explain this so your readers aren't left totally confused. Update your story as frequently as possible and if for some reason you can't update tell your readers, but don't overdo it with authors notes.

I don't claim to be an expert on writing by any means but I hope that this advice will help you find success here on Wattpad.
