This is an appropriate piece of advice given in a previous chapter I was talking about feedback.
You are probably gathering comments and reactions from various sources - friends, silent readers, beta readers etc. And hopefully some people are into your story.
But some people won't get your vision, they won't understand your passion. And you shouldn't expect everyone to "get it".
You get your obsession though and if you believe in it, you need to stick with it - mercilessly.
John Grisham had faith in his stories (The Firm, The Pelican Brief and over 40 other published books) and after being rejected by numerous publishers for his first book - A Time to Kill - he self published. He gave copies of his books to his legal clients and traveled around the country to local fairs etc. and sold his book out of the trunk of his car.
The authors of "Chicken Soup for the Soul" got 144 rejection letters for the book. But they didn't bend, water it down (soup - get it :>) or change their vision. There are now millions of copies sold and over 250 versions of this book. (Variations upon a theme.)
How do you stick with your obsession?
