The Element Force - Chapter 1
Ivy and Wendy were going about their business at the orphanage. They both grew up together like sisters in their dorm – both taking care of each other as they grew up. However, no matter how close they were, they both had a secret that they didn't want to reveal to anyone, due to what the voices in their heads were warning them about.
But the truth can never always be hidden.
"Ivy," her friend called, "we have a letter addressed to us."
Ivy raised a brow in confusion. No one outside the orphanage has ever checked up on them in the last fifteen years. Why would someone send them a letter now?
"Huh, what does it say?" Ivy asked, walking over to her friend and peeking at the envelope. It was addressed to them To Ivy Icicle and Wendy Marine. Even their full names were accurate. Who is this person?
Wendy opens the envelope and begins to read the contents of it. It was written in elegant cursive that she had to squint to read.
Without question, Ivy and Wendy stand on the balcony.
"Daughters of the Element of Water?" Ivy asked, looking at Wendy with scrunched eyebrows. Wendy tensed at the mention of water.
"Weird," she said simply.
And there indeed was a fluorescent yellow portal – the colour of their highlighter – right in front of them where they were once standing. Their eyes widen then shut close due to the brightness of the portal.
"I thought portals were mesmerizing, not blinding!" Ivy complained, trying to recover her eyesight, but failing hard. Wendy just grunted as she tried to prevent any more fluorescent yellow light from entering her retina through her eyelids.
In the dark brightness they saw through their eyelids, a figure emerged. Black hair, white dress, and eerily purple eyes. Her skin wasn't wrinkly, but she exuded the aura like the grandmother that served them blueberry muffins on weekends
"Daughters of the Element of Water," the woman started, "come with me."
"No." Wendy stated, simply.
"What do you mean by Daughters of the Element of Water?"
"I'll explain on the way," the woman said, opening the balcony window without touching the handle.
Ivy and Wendy are both puzzled by the woman and the portal in front of them. Only fools would follow a stranger woman through a portal. Today, they were fools. Once they entered the portal with the woman, they closed their eyes. When they opened their eyes, they saw a high-tech, most probably HQ like the ones they saw in spy movies.
There was the woman that brought them there and along with her, two other boys their age who were dressed in hero suits. One of them had hair as red as fire and his gaze was burning with fury at the arrival of Ivy and Wendy. The other one had hair like burnt wood and he was suited in a dark oak brown outfit, matching the colour of his eyes.
"TEF, who are these people?" the fiery boy asked, glowering at them both. Ivy and Wendy flinched at his sharp glare.
The woman narrowed her eyes at the mention of 'TEF', "They are our new teammates," she started, she turned her gaze to Ivy and Wendy, "who will now introduce themselves, and their powers."
Ivy and Wendy flinch at the mention of powers and turn to each other looking equally worried. Wendy sucks in a breath and exhales as if to prepare herself for a life-altering speech.
"I'm Wendy, and I wield water," she sighed, "and I could do so since as long as I can remember." Wendy proved her statement by creating a water cat statue. Ivy gaped at the revelation. But she bit her lip as she recalled that it was her turn next. The fiery boy crossed his arms, scrutinizing both Ivy and Wendy with his scorching gaze. The other boy looked at Wendy's demonstration curiously.
"I'm Ivy, the ice wielder," she scoffs, "and that is how we always had ice available for iced tea or coffee." Wendy stared at her friend empathetically. The water cat statue in front of them slowly but surely frosted into an ice sculpture, and strangely enough – it did not melt even after Ivy had withdrawn from the statue.
The fiery boy clapped – unamused at their display. "So, you can move water, and you can freeze it, big deal," he shrugged. "A jug can move water around and a fridge can freeze water," he added, glaring at them.
The woman, who they referred to as TEF, shot a glare at the fiery boy's direction. "Water is a crucial element, Aiden," she started, walking towards him, "the world is more water than earth."
Aiden scoffed, "And these two are newbies, they have a lot of training to do," he retorted, glaring at the woman. "Without training they can't waltz in battle with their lame 'powers' – it's of no use then," he complained, his voice rising.
"Aiden, we too were newbies once, and confused," the other boy, with the burnt hair, placed a hand on his friend's shoulder, "we should help them train and make sense of what's going on instead of insulting their lack of knowledge and wisdom."
Aiden folded his arms, sending his glare to his friend as well.
"Wait," Ivy tried to catch their attention, "what do you mean by battle?" Aiden laughed a sarcastic laugh, as if they shouldn't be asking that question in the first place.
"I have so many questions, can we all sit down and talk?" Wendy suggested, her hand on her forehead. She felt a headache come on from all these new revelations.
TEF summons five sofas and a coffee table in the middle. The boy with burnt hair sits down first, followed by Wendy, Ivy and then reluctantly, Aiden.
"First of all, I am Tasha, the Element Fairy," the woman started.
"But we call her TEF for short," Aiden added, earning a glare from Tasha.
"Right now, we are on Floating Fictopia," she started, making the floor invisible. Ivy and Wendy were terrified, but they relaxed when they realized there was glass beneath them. "The land you see right below us is called Fictopia," she concluded. Ivy and Wendy took a while to take in the grassy, tree-filled lands of Fictopia beneath them.
"My name is Marco," the boy with burnt hair saluted. "We have been chosen by our powers to fight in the upcoming war."
Ivy raised both brows, "War?" she echoed, anxious and baffled.
"We will talk about the war in due time, but for now all you must know is that there are six of you kids who have been chosen by the powers to save Levelisia from being conquered by the evil forces," TEF summarized in two lines. Ivy and Wendy then realized this was going to be a life-altering event.
And they were not sure if they were ready for it.
