Unfortunately, nobody knows what does rules are. I wish, in another land or world, that there were guidelines and rules that could help you through the world of writing a novel. But, of course, because the universe hates me, there isn't any. 

"Writing flows and has no guidelines and is a beautiful, flowing piece of art! Having no guidelines is what makes writing so special." (Exagerating, not the actual quote but you get the idea) -Don't know who said this but I already know I don't like them with the whole "Having no guidelines is what makes writing so special!" MY FOOT. I don't know for you, but to me it would be much easier if I knew what the guidelines were so I could fulfill them the first time. But no, no such luck for me. I'll bet you whoever invented writing novels are like: "Ha ha, I gave writing no guidelines so you could mess up over and over again without knowing what you did! Hahahah, aren't I joyous?"

*Not amused* Vote/Comment if you wish you knew the guidelines of writing so you didn't have to mess up over and over again.
