Chapter 5 - That One's Easy
I hadn't expected the board of the school and the teachers to ask us to show our talents. Really I shouldnt be surprised I guess though. Everyone's parents or whoever brought them have left no more than an hour ago.
A lady that was probably in her 60's, steps up to the podium set up in the center of the gymnasium floor. "Hello students. I'm your principal, Miriam Talent. You have all been brought here because of a talent that was showcased to us and someone wanted your talent to take flight and grow. We have such a diversity of talents here. There are writers, singers, musicians, athletes, and so much more. I know that God has brought each of you here for a great purpose. We are going to give you a little time. Then come back here when you are ready and you will perform for us live." She gives the whole room a bright smile. "I'm excited. Dismissed."
There are a few bold students that step forward right away, I have no idea what to play. I stop by my room to get my guiar, my room mate still isn't here so I have no idea who she is. I take it out of it's case and head outside. It's really beautiful and so peaceful on these school grounds. I find a tall oak tree and sit down against the sturdy tree. I take my guitar in my hands and start strumming and playing chords.
I whisper a prayer. "God, I have no idea what to play. Please help me, give me the song you want me to play." When He answers me though, I feel so unprepared. "God... I ... I don't know about this. Are you sure?" The lyrics of the song just keep going through my mind in answer. "Alright. But I'm counting on your strength to get through this."
I pull up the lyrics and chords on my phone to the song and start going through it. As I play the song I feel tears streaming down my face, it really feels like God is sitting right here beside me while I'm playing and singing for Him. After I go through the song a couple more times I wipe my face, "Alright. Let's do this God."
I'm smiling as I head into the school building and make my way back to the gym. There's a short line waiting next to the table of school board members and teachers. For once I don't really feel all that nervous, I just feel... like the Lover of the Universe is holding my hand. Less than 15 minutes later it's my turn.
Mrs. Talent smiles at me, "Go on, honey."
I give her a smile back and place my paper where I had copied down the lyrics and chords down on the podium. "My name is Carrie Patrick. I'm going to sing a song by Mark Bishop called "That One's Easy". It's a really special song so make sure you listen to the words." I take in a breath and close my eyes and let out a deep breath, then I start singing.
The music takes me away, as I get farther in the song my voice really flows strong and smooth. My heart is soaring as I sing and play this song. The chorus rings through the room,
"If you ask me is there real love,
that can pick you off the ground.
Does anybody hear you praying
Is there an answer coming down
And does anybody love me
Of all the questions you could ask me
That one's easy, yeah that one's easy."
The room of people applaud, I even notice some of them are crying. Mrs. Talent nods and gives me a thumbs up. "Thank you, Miss Patrick." As I take my seat I notice, I was crying too. But not sad tears, because I have peace and joy in my heart. I'm ready for this year, because there's no question in my mind that God can answer my questions and make me strong. That one's easy.
