Paper hearts
. . .
Paper hearts,
Surrounding me,
Each containing poems and letters of how I feel about you.
I smile as I think about you,
How happy you make me,
And wish that I could make you as happy.
But my smile doesn't last that long.
It falters as I realize maybe you're just a crush,
Maybe you're only in my life for a moment.
Somehow,
Some day,
I'm gonna have to let you go,
Let my feelings for you go.
The thought alone makes the sadness bubble up inside of me.
But,
I can't ignore it.
If I let go right now,
It won't be as painful as later on.
With a broken heart,
I make my decision,
Hoping we can maybe still remain friends.
I attach the paper hearts to the balloons I had prepared,
And with light footsteps,
Step outside,
Onto the pavement.
I look up at the sky,
Letting out a broken sigh as I close my eyes for a moment.
I love you,
I whisper to myself,
Before releasing the balloons from my grasp.
I gaze at how each one flew away,
Growing further apart from each other,
From me,
Before they disappeared forever.
I hope people who find my letters,
My poems,
My paper hearts,
Realize their love,
Take the leap,
Make the most of their time before it runs out.
I hope,
It finds a way to you,
Signed with love,
From yours truly,
My paper hearts.
