Prologue. Adolescence nostalgia
Prologue / adolescence nostalgia
˗ˏˋ ───── Lorelei Avery had never been much of a religious person. Unless the calendar day fell on Christmas day or Easter, you'd never catch her at the local church. Sure, she'd attend the services for her mom, but on any other of the three hundred sixty-three days (three hundred sixty-four if it was a leap year!) then she didn't bother. If you'd ask her why, all you would hear in reply from the seventeen year old girl was that she just simply did not care.
Despite the preachings of her mom claiming her soul needed saving, Lorelei figured her baptism had been enough to earn herself in a spot in heaven when the day came around. If it didn't, then she would be having serious words with her guardian angels, but for now, why focus on that? After all there was still all of her adolescence, middle, and old age to worry about that mess! For as long as Lorelei Avery was concerned, she was young, restless, and newly seventeen with her entire life to look forward to.
She was absolutely determined to make the most of her life (or at least what it had to offer in a town like Forks) so if there was a will, there was a way. And for two months, seventeen year old Lorelei was doing just that. With school being out during the summer months, responsibilities and all caution were thrown out the window. Parties and late nights had quickly become a regular part of everyday routine for the high school students of Forks, and no one was complaining.
If you were just about anyone in the social hierarchy of small town living, you had credit to your name by being seen at a party. During the summer, it hadn't even been a question if Lorelei Avery out of all people would've been attending, because most likely, she was already helping host it. But in the back of her mind, while life was all about 'raising the roof' and what not, for those few good weeks, for some, lake and house parties were just about as good as it was going to get. For Lorelei, every time that red solo cup hit her lips, she prayed that it would not be herself who wound up old and only relevant when adolescence nostalgia hit.
That reason alone was exactly why she'd decided to let it all go. Forget what anyone had to say about her, Lorelei Avery was so done. Her life was going to be lived to the very fullest, the way she wanted it; unapologetic and rash. The future was going to come sooner rather than later, when it did, she'd be solely responsible. So, until then, screw the alcoholism allegations, screw curfews, and screw everyone in the entire town! If living fast and dying young was the new motto, then so be it. Damn anyone who tried to stop her.
(AUTHORS NOTE!)
Ik this is not a long intro but ik nobody prob wants to hear about a backstory right now (i lowkey just didn't want to write one) so here damn. Gotta keep it short and sweet, yk how it is. Anyhow... i'm super excited for this fic! I've put a lot of a work into it so far (perhaps a little less thought) but we on that grind anyway!
