CHAPTER THREE
 — BEING A RANGER
sporix unleashed — part one

"Link to Morphin' Grid!" — the rangers

THE FOUR RANGERS STOOD ABOVE DINOHENGE, PRACTICING HOW TO MORPH.
Once they had agreed to train with Zayto, she quickly sent her Dad a text, telling him she'll be back late as she had made some friends. She didn't want to tell him about what had just happened — that she was now a Ranger — he wasn't ready.

"It's Morphin' time!" Called out Zayto. Ada completed the move but it seemed the others were having more trouble. For instance, Amelia almost hit Zayto in the head.

The Pink Ranger winced on their leader's behalf. "Sorry! I keep doing that."

Zayto just pretended it didn't happen and turned to glance at each of them. "Let's go again. We have to get the morphing sequence right. We can't afford mistakes." They had a whole sequence whilst all her Papa had to do was call out his dinosaur. It seemed a little unfair how complicated it was to morph. But Ada wasn't about to argue.

So, they started again.

"It's Morphin time!" Zayto yelled and they all swung their hands across the buttons on their morphers, activating them. Next, it was the keys. Whipping out the keys from their pockets, the Rangers flicked them open. "Dino Fury Key!" But it seemed it was Ollie to mess up his time as he accidentally flicked his key into the air.

Zayto caught it. "I was just testing your reflexes." Insisted Ollie as Ada snorted. The Red Ranger just hummed, unconvinced.

"Again." They repeated the sequence once more, none of them getting a thing wrong this time. "Activate!" At Zayto's word, they all inserted their dino keys into their morphers. Now, here it comes.

"Link to Morphin Grid!"

They rotated the jaw of the dino on their morpher. Then suddenly their entire bodies were covered in light. And once that light vanished, it left four very colourful fighters behind. The Power Rangers.

"Dino Fury Power!"

They lowered their sabers and relaxed from their stances. "This is so amazing." Grinned Ada as she looked down at her morphed body. Oh how her fam were going to freak out when they saw her like this. Well, that was if Zayto allowed her to tell them.

Ollie then spoke up, proposing a question she also had been thinking. "So, seven statues, but only four of us?" He looked around at Dinohenge. Ada turned to her statue, the Pterodactyl that had been captured in mid-air with a column beneath. She smiled at it, the source of her powers. They were connected now through the Grid and that was a beautiful thing.

"Do you have the other Dino Fury Keys? Can we recruit more Rangers?"

"Can we?"

Ada hummed in thought. "That would be cool."

But sadly, Zayto hung his head as he informed them of their fate. They had been lost with his old teammates. So that meant the four of them were the only thing between the Sporix and world domination.

Zayto quickly changed the subject and pulled out one of the many keys that had previously been in the rack down at the base. "Let's move in to Boost Keys. We have many. Each one gives us a special ability." Now that was incredible.

"So cool." Amelia said what Ada was thinking.

Ada mused. "The Mighty Morphin' Rangers never had these. This is going to fun." She grinned as she stared at the key.

"They're kind of like power-ups in a video game?" Realised Ollie as he pointed to the key in Zayto's hand.

"You're right, Ollie. But I know that Zayto had no idea what you just said." She mentioned and glanced to the 65 million year old extra-terrestrial. But he said nothing.

Amelia nodded with Ollie. "Love it."

Zayto's communicator suddenly beeped as Solon asked them to return down to the base. So, they demorphed and with a turn of the ring of their communicator and a press, they were teleported back to where they had become Rangers.

They arrived almost instantly and Ada turned to find both Amelia and Ollie wincing as they arrived. "Gotta get used to that. Does it make you weak in the knees too?"

"No," Ollie groaned, clutching his stomach. "just really nauseous." And when he looked over to see Ada Cranston unaffected by the teleport, he frowned. "How are you okay?"

Ada just gave an innocent shrug. "I'm used to it."

"Right." Nodded Ollie, having forgotten for a moment who her family was. Then they all made their way to Solon's side as she tapped at the keys of the control panel.

"I've got our defence systems back online." She informed them, much to their relief. "No one can get into the base but us." Basically, stay away Mr Void Knight. "And I put the T-Rex Champion zord on standby."

Ooo, zords. Ada was even more excited now. She had been in zords before, but the possibility of getting her own, it was definitely making her ecstatic.

Amelia gawped at the name. "T-Rex champion? That sounds awesome! Who names these Zords?" She questioned with enthusiasm.

They all gave Amelia blank looks, apart from Ada who just whispered to her new friend. "You're right, it's an amazing name." Amelia grinned back at her.

"Anyway... as I was clearing up, I found this." Solon pulled out Void Knight's device. The one he used to find the Sporix.

Ollie noticed that too and quickly took it from Solon's hands. "He must've dropped it." Ada made her way over and then took the device from Ollie's hands. She wanted to know whether this was like her Morphin Grid scanner or just something else entirely.

"He used it to find the Sporix." Recalled Amelia as Ada pried the casing off of the device. Ollie gasped in horror as he watched her delve deep into the wiring. "Do you think he'll come back for it?"

Ada stared down at the circuitry and realised it worked in a similar way to her own device, but it was not the same. Hers was trained on raw Grid energy, this was just looking for energy sources. Still, they were somehow related. With a sigh, Ada replaced the casing and handed it back to Ollie who immediately held it from her arm's reach.

"Void Knight will have to wait." Zayto said. "Right now the Sporix are loose, and we need to warn people."

"I agree." Nodded Solon.

Amelia then proposed. "We'll notify the police and spread the word across social media."

She thought about it for a moment and then spoke up. "I have an algorithm that can help with that." Ada told Amelia.

"That's great! And I'll contact Buzzblast and—" The Pink Ranger cut herself off when she realised Ollie wasn't listening, just staring at Void Knight's scanner. "Ollie. Hello? Earth to Ollie?"

Finally, the Blue Ranger tore his eyes from the scanner. "If we find all the Sporix, there won't be any danger." Yes, that was the point of them being Power Rangers. "My Mom's drone does aerial scanning, and this thing detects Sporix energy." Ada then understood his train of thought. She wasn't going to deny that it was good, because it was. But it was definitely risky. Because if Void Knight got it, then they were toast. "If we combine this with the drone, we can scan the city and find all of them before they hatch."

"An interesting idea." Hummed Solon but she too saw the risks to this plan. "But combining a strange alien device with human technology could be dangerous."

"She's right, Ollie." Confirmed Ada.

But Ollie didn't see the flaw in his plan. "I think you both worry too much." After everything she had learnt about these scenarios, Ada was right to be cautious. "Trust me, I'm sure Mom and I could figure it out if we had a little time."

Zayto stepped forwards. "Time is what we don't have. Our priority is to warn the town."

"Zayto's right, Ollie." Amelia agreed and Ada too stepped forwards and nodded with the others. "We can't risk anyone getting hurt.

And with a sigh, Ollie conceded. "Yeah, fine. We alert the city."

Then, with another twist of their communicators, they were gone once more.

ADA AND THE OTHERS ARRIVED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF PINE RIDGE. She wasn't sure how Zayto would take it as the world was a lot different than 65 million years ago. And it seemed they didn't have the time to ease him into it. They were just ripping off the bandaid.

"I'm getting the hang of this." Smiled Amelia as she arrived smoothly.

"Well done, Ames, it only took you a few go's." Beamed Yellow proudly as she offered her hand open for a high five. A high five offer that Amelia accepted. And the new nickname, it caused the Jones girl to smile more.

Ollie was relieved when it appeared he was okay. "Me too." He said but he jinxed it because then he bent over as his stomach twisted into knots. "Wait." He groaned as the nausea returned. "Spoke too soon."

"Wow."

They all turned to Zayto who was staring at his surroundings in awe and wonder. He seemed to be accepting it okay, that was a good sign.

"Earth sure has changed in 65 million years. Where are the dinosaurs? I'd love to see some." He said like an excited child. Ada cringed at his words.

She glanced at the others. "Who's gonna tell him?" Ada asked like parents deciding which one was gonna tell the child Santa wasn't real. Which he in fact was; he was even a family friend.

And Amelia was the one who took stepped up. "Well... they're mostly in the movies." Zayto tilted his head in confusion. "We'll explain later."

"Along with other important Earth stuff." Ada butted in her contribution.

"Yeah." Amelia nodded towards Ada before returning to Zayto. "Bur right now, you need to blend in." Her eyes inspected his look which most definitely did not blend in.

Now this confused their poor leader even more. "What do you mean?"

"Well, for a start, your antennae kind of make you... stand out." Ollie pointed out as they crossed the first thing off of the 'make Zayto look humanish' list.

Then Ada interjected. "Not they're not cool. It's just, he's right. No one on Earth has antennae, so..."

Zayto nodded in agreement and then a second later, the antennae withdrew into his head. Now that was really cool.

"Wow." They breathed out.

"Retractable antennae? That's cool and freaky." Amelia grinned and then they all took off after Zayto.

Their first stop was the Parks HQ, which Amelia had to redirect Zayto on the direction of. And as Amelia and Ollie led the way to where Ollie's Mom still was, Ada hung back with Zayto. She wanted to ask him something, but wasn't quite sure how to yet.

"Zayto?" She asked, catching his attention. The Rafkonian hummed and smiled down at her. "I know the rules of being a Ranger, I do, it's just—"

He did not have to be a mind reader to know what Ada was going to say. Because he could feel this question coming ever since he found out about her family. "You're wondering if it would be alright to tell your family that you're a Ranger?"

"Yeah."

Zayto thought about it for a moment. "Your situation is definitely one of a kind Ada."

"You can say that again." She rolled her eyes.

"From what I could see of your memories, there are many more Ranger teams on Earth now. And a lot of them, they seem to know who each other is. So, as long as you're careful, I would say that informing your Ranger family that you're one of them now would be okay." He decided with a kind smile.

"Thank you."

Zayto's eyes turned forwards as they approached the Park's HQ. "You're welcome."

"So, this is the Park's HQ?" Ollie asked Amelia. Both him and Ada were new to Pine Ridge and Zayto had been around before Pine Ridge was a thing so none of them knew for certain where anything was. Amelia hummed in confirmation. And then a cyclist zoomed past, almost knocking over Zayto if it hadn't been for Ollie who pulled him from harm's way. "Maybe let us handle this."

"Ok. But remember, no one can know that you're Rangers."

They all nodded in understanding. The only people who could know were her Ranger family, not even her Dad, and she would tell them later. "Totally. It'll be fine. Man, I'd get a ton of likes if I could post about it though."

Ada spotted Dr Akana leaving the Park's HQ with Warden Garcia who was escorting her away. So the team made her way over to her and Ollie asked. "Hey, Mom. Everything ok?"

"Yes. Um, Warden Garcia has explained all the park regulations to me," Ada winced in sympathy for the woman, that couldn't have been nice. "and banned us from going near Dinohenge again."

That wasn't good. But at least they had their communicators to teleport now to get around that.

Spotting the unfamiliar addition behind her son's new band of friends, Dr Akana frowned. "But how are you doin'?"

Ollie glanced between his Mom and the warden and prepared to tell them what they knew. "Well, we actually wanted to speak to the warden about something — a public threat in the woods." Not bad, Ollie, not bad.

Warden Garcia withdrew his notepad, ready to hear all about it.

"Well, there are these kind of, um, Sporix." Ada watched as their credibility drain off the Warden's face. "They came from space."

Then Amelia jumped in. "They're this big, bumpy, squishy, and they can fly."

"And don't forget," The Warden looked up at Ada, intrigued. "they're super gross." That just made the exasperated on his face worsen.

The Warden glanced at Amelia, eyebrow raised. "So you've given up on ghosts and now it's space blobs that can fly? Tell me..." He paused for a moment before lifting up his notepad, a drawing of a flying saucer drawn right in the middle. "is this their vehicle?"

Zayto stared at the image, not knowing the Warden was being sarcastic and then replied. "No."

"We're not kidding." Ollie told the warden to try and see that they were indeed serious. "You gotta warn everyone. If they find a Sporix, then—"

"Whoa." The Warden quickly stopped him. "You've wasted enough of my time." He gave Zayto another weird look before disappearing back inside.

Amelia then turned to Zayto. "No problem. We can try talking to Jane at BuzzBlast next." She suggested as she tried to move them forwards.

Dr Akana, thankfully, seemed to believe them (that or she thought her son was delirious) and stepped forwards in concern. "Um, Sporix, Ollie? Are you ok?"

"I just need a word with my Mom." He told the others. "I'll see you guys later, ok?"

Zayto, Amelia and Ada nodded before leaving Ollie with his Mother. And just when they were about to get to the exit on their way to BuzzBlast, Ada's phone buzzed. It was her Dad.

"Shoot. Sorry, guys. It's my Dad, I've got to go. My Dad thinks I lied because, I quote: 'You're bad at making friends, Adaline. There's no way you made three in a day'." She groaned and lowered her air quotes. "He thinks I can't make friends? Papa told me how when he was in high school—" Ada cut herself off when she saw the confused looks on her friends' faces. "I'm rambling, sorry. But I have to go."

Amelia nodded in understanding. "We'll see you later, Ada."

"Good luck." The Cranston girl told her teammates before she watched them leave. Then she whispered under her breath. "And may the power protect you."

IT TOOK HER A LITTLE WHILE TO CONVINCE HER DAD THAT SHE HAD ACUTALLY MADE FRIENDS IN THE WOODS. She told him as much as she could without giving away her new Ranger secret. And finally, he seemed to believe her. Then he had her continuing to help unpack the leftover boxes in the living room. But then Solon alerted her on her communicator that the others had located a Sporix beast, so she put down whatever was in her hand and teleported to their location.

So now Ada was stood beside her teammates at the city dam, staring down at a hatched Sporix beast.

They had turned at the sound of screams and the cry of "I am the Mighty Mucus!". Huh? Okay.

"Mucus?!" Amelia arched an eyebrow at the name.

Ollie was also a bit shocked. "For real?" He stared at the mushroom in confusion. "That's a Sporix beast?"

"I wouldn't judge a book by it's cover, Ollie." She told him.

"Yes! Who's gonna stop me from tearing the city apart?" Mucus laughed manically as she threw her arms up into the air in assumed victory.

Amelia stepped forwards. "Oh, we are. The—"

"Power Rangers." Ollie finished.

The Pink Ranger groaned. "Oh, come on! I was gonna say that."

Ada sighed as she looked between the two. "Not the time, guys. We have some Sporix butt to kick." A smirk crossed her lips.

Then Zayto said those famous words. "It's Morphin' time!"

They swept their hands down and activated the button on the communicator to summon their morphers. Then they retrieved their keys. "Dino Fury Key!" Clicking the keys open, the quartet prepared to insert them.

"Smooth." Zayto approved proudly.

"Activate!" Raising their wrists, they then swung the dino jaws around and finally activated their morphers. "Link to Morphin Grid!"

Ada felt the power within her surge as she morphed, as she became one with the spirit of the Pterodactyl. Her suit climbed all across her body, covering her head to toe in yellow. She felt it as her helmet closed around her eyes, ensuring she was safe and her identity was a secret.

The others called out their dinos until it was Ada's turn. And for the first time, she said the words aloud. "Ptero Fury Yellow Ranger!" She raised her saber and swiped it outwards before brining it back to protect her body.

"Dino Fury Power!"

Now that was awesome!!!! Wow.

Mucus clapped her hands at the sight of them and their morphing performance. "Well done, everyone! I love the colours. Now, here comes the pain." She cried and started to run towards them. "Whooaaa!"

They took a defensive stance behind Zayto to prepare for what was next. But when he brought down his sword on Mucus, she was reduced to slime. Huh. That was easy. Perhaps, a little too easy.

"Huh." Frowned Zayto as he looked down at the slimy mess and then spun around to his Rangers. "I had no idea it'd be that easy." He shrugged. But then behind them echoed a loud roar. And when Ada looked over Zayto's shoulder she spotted another Sporix beast heading their way. Now this one looked more intimidating. "Huh? Another one?"

"I'm the best one!"

Ada raised a dubious eyebrow at the what seemed to be a green part unicorn beast. "We'll see about that."

The Rangers attacked, swinging their dino sabers straight at this new beast. Zayto slashed from behind and Ada, Amelia and Ollie wielded their blades in front as they attacked the beast. This beast had a sword of its own so it was three against one, caught in a battle of rapid slash succession.

Ada ducked under one of the beast's swings and then the quartet rolled before launching up to capture the beast's weapon with their own. But the beast was strong and managed to throw up their blades into the air. Then, their metal was clashing once more.

Despite the power now flowing through her veins, Ada could feel tiredness begin to creep up her limbs. She was sure she would get better with time, but oh my, this was exhausting. Still, she had to continue.

Zayto brought down his saber but the beast supersped out of the way. Using this, it managed to evade every strike the Rangers sent its way. Wow, it was fast.

"I warned you!" Laughed the Sporix beast — that definitely needed an actual name now. "I'm the best!"

Ollie narrowed his gaze at the beast as the four Rangers came to stand side-by-side once again. "Toot your own horn much?"

"Nice one." Ada nodded in approval as she turned to glance at Ollie.

Which proved to be a big mistake.

Because then the beast attacked once more, heading straight for the new Rangers  who weren't exactly experienced. Clad in yellow, Ada helped her friends fight off this beast as much as she could. But things weren't looking great for them at the moment.

Yet, just as Ada was beginning to think they might lose, Zayto's voice was heard over the metallic clashing of blades. "Rangers!" He shouted, gaining their attention as they also tried to focus on battling back the beast. "Remember those Boost Keys I mentioned?"

"Uh, yeah?"

"Stink Dino Key — ready!" Zayto activated the boost key as the trio continued to fight against the monster. But by now, they had been pushed back against the railing by the incredible strength of the monster. They squirmed behind their sabers — the only thing between them and the beast — as they tried to free themselves. Zayto, meanwhile, had plugged the key into his saber, just like Void Knight had done with the Hengemen key. "Watch this."

"'K!"

Ada tried to glance over at Zayto, but right now, most of her attention was on the beast in front of her. But she did manage to catch a glimpse of Zayto pulling down the handle on his saber, causing the dino jaw cross-guard to chomp down on the key, its eyes glowing with each bite. Then he flicked his sword down and suddenly armour covered his entire right arm and formed a large, pointed plate at his shoulder.

"Not bad." Nodded Ada who grunted with effort as she fended back the beast.

"Stink boost!"

Finally the trio managed to get some power behind them and shoved the beast from them. Amelia, perplexed by Zayto's words, asked. "Is he saying 'stink'?"

Ada sent a strong kick towards the beast, sending it far away from them.

And then Zayto, not noticing the beast was gone, swung down his sword. "Stink out!"

A large, dark yellow cloud filled the air and even with her helmet, the scent burnt her nostrils. It had to be one of the worst things she had ever smelt, and that was saying something. The Rangers coughed and grimaced in disgust as they felt it fill their visors.

"He definitely said stink." Groaned Ollie.

Ada buried her helmet into the crook of her elbow and screwed up her eyes tight. It was even making her eyes water. "I take back what I said, it's very bad." Her voice, although muffled, was audible to the others.

But it seemed their suffering wasn't in vain as behind them, the beast collapsed from the horrific scent. He cried out in pain as it too burnt his larger nostrils.

"It worked!" Zayto informed this teammates. "He's down!"

As Ada and the others got themselves back onto steady feet, Zayto charged straight for the beast. But then it had summoned Hengemen that formed a barrier between the Red Ranger and the Sporix creature. He was flung backwards as he hit the shields of the Hengemen and was sent hurtling to the ground beside them.

"Zayto!" The Yellow, Pink and Blur Rangers cried as they watched their friend go down.

"The indestructible Mucus is back!"

They all turned at that voice, that name, and as they looked past the Hengemen they saw the mushroom back in one piece. It seemed destroying her before was too easy after all. From what Ada could deduce, she could easily reconstruct herself from slime. So once you struck her down, she would be back up again soon. Now that was dangerous.

Taunting the Rangers, Mucus was beaming with victory as the other beast ordered the Hengemen to attack. Here they went again.

Tightening her grip on her saber, Ada once again fought against the Hengemen. They were easier opponents than the Sporix so Ada just kept swinging her saber and kicking them in the chests. And as the four Rangers took on the henchmen of Void Knight, meaning Void Knight was involved with this Beast, it seemed the beast and Mucus were fighting.

"They're fighting?"

The beast was getting angry with the mushroom and Ada kept one ear open as she continued to reduce the Hengemen to rubble. "I'm Shockhorn!" Cried the beast. So, that was it's name. Good to know.

Mucus quickly apologised. "Listen, I wanna help you." How fascinating. "Us Sporix Beasts should stick together."

A Hengemen slashed down at Ada's helmeted head, which she narrowly dodged before striking back. Behind them, Mucus and Shockhorn were talking about Void Knight but the Rangers were trying to finish disposing of the last few Hengemen.

And as they all brought down their sabers, the last of the Hengemen were reduced to dust.

But Mucus and Shockhorn had vanished. Not good.

In Power Ranger experience, things only got bigger from here. So, Ada was a little worried for what they were going to have deal with next.

"They're gone." Sighed Zayto before glancing to the different brightly coloured warriors. "Let's get to base."

And then, with a push of their morpher, they teleported away. They just to hope they could take down Shockhorn before things got too out of hand.

Here we have chapter three!!! Ada is now a Power Ranger and taking after her Papa in more ways than just his name and aptitude for science.

I love Ada's friendship with each Ranger, it's so different with each and I love them.

Despite her Papa being a Ranger and meeting all different Ranger teams, actually being a Ranger is new to Ada. Sure, she had training from the other Mighty Morphin' Rangers but working with her own Ranger team was a completely different thing. But of course she's up for the challenge.

Also, lol, her Dad. Honestly, I'm the same. Making friends can be difficult but Ada has finally found some good ones but because of her track record, her Dad doesn't believe her. He will though.

Anyway, thank you for reading!!!
