Introduction
A tall man, Emmett Glass, sat in a chair talking to a man in a suit. This man's name was John Campbell and he just got assigned to this sector and these hunters.
This was his first meeting with their representative, Emmett Glass.
John had the perfect look. A nice gray suit that was fitted to him and his dark hair was perfect. His dark eyes bore through a person.
Emmett liked how intense he was. One of the hunters, Linc, was like that too. Emmett wasn't intimidated easily but these two gentlemen could do it.
"So, you work with them?" John asked.
Emmett smiled. "You're new here. I do. When they go out, I meet with the head of this agency, you. Congratulations on your promotion. I worked with Greg Stevens for ten years, he was a good man. Well, he is. I heard he moved to Hawaii and is enjoying his retirement."
John returned Emmett's smile. "I believe so. I look forward to working with you and I hope I don't disappoint you." John Campbell was the new Head of The Hallowed Agency.
"No. I just report, Sir." Emmett smiled. "Let me give you the rundown on things here. The Central Sector is different. We live around vampires and we stay busy. This is the busiest sector on this continent because of the dense population of vampires."
"I have read previous reports. I am aware." John watched Emmett. He was professional.
"As you know, vampires stay hidden from humans most of the time, except in this sector. It's common for us to help other sectors if they need it, which keeps us busy."
Emmett and his team worked for the underlying society that deals with the dangerous vampires. The Hallowed Agency.
They try to keep humans in the dark, which means they work with some humans also. Not all humans need to know vampires exist. The supernatural world needs to know all the news and keep the panic to a minimum.
Emmett continued with his list of their team."Marcie Glass keeps the humans updated. It's her job, she works for The Hallowed Agency and she talks to the human agency, The Human Safety Department. Marcie's a very smart woman. She works with humans mostly. She's my wife." Emmett smiled.
John smiled. He liked Emmett. He had brown hair and it was always styled and never moved. His eyes were a very soft, pretty green and he loved his teammates just by the way he talked about them. John knew they were a close team.
"Marcie works under you also, Mr. Campbell." Emmett just wanted to inform John. He wasn't an idiot though.
John Campbell was the head of the Hallowed Senate also. They help legislation and make laws. He was a glorified chief of police. Emmett reported to John when the hunters went out and when they returned.
John wanted to keep tabs on his hunters. He had thirty hunters in his sector.
Marcie tried to keep things calm with humans too. She was their correspondent. The hunters sent their reports to John. He was their contact but they didn't see him very often.
Emmett watched John. "So, I work with you, directly. I basically do Marcie's job but I work with vampires."
"So you and Marcie are the people that I get to work closely with. Correct?" John watched Emmett.
"Yes, Sir. We try to keep up with our hunters." Emmett smiled. "They are pretty good."
"Who else is on the team?" John was curious about what he had to say about his team. John had reports and knew everyone's profile. However, personal relationships between the team members wasn't in the file.
"Rachel Glass is my little sister. She's two years younger. She's our chef. She kept the team fed and she loves her position. The hunters hired her ten years ago and she never looked back. This was where she met Tyler and fell for him." Emmett sighed.
"Tyler Newton is the mechanic. He keeps all of the equipment in order. Knives, blades, swords, tasers, guns, and vehicles. Cars and motorcycles. Whatever the hunters need, he provides it for them. He's crazy and loves his job."
Sometimes, Rachel, his sister, got on Emmett's nerves. She was controlling and high maintenance. Tyler kept his hair long, which Rachel complained about all the time.
Tyler didn't care, he liked it and it made her mad. Emmett thought he kept it long just to piss her off. That was his opinion. They were perfect for each other.
Tyler and Rachel had an on again off again relationship that drove everyone crazy. They loved each other but they fought about everything. Marcie thought it was foolish but Rachel said the makeup sex was amazing. Marcie didn't want to know.
Tyler was a pushover and Rachel was bossy. Whenever Tyler got sick of her, they fought. It was at least once a week and it made everyone else crazy.
"Last but not least, Linc Cordova and Grayson Larsen are the hunters or Ukase. They are the men that risk their lives to hunt vampires and bring them in. Sometimes, they will have to kill them. Linc doesn't mind killing a vampire. They make a great team, Sir."
"They had been working together for seven years." Emmett watched John. Seven years was a long time for a Ukase. They didn't always last long. Hunters didn't usually get along with each other. They usually thought highly of themselves and clashed with other egotistical hunters.
Linc thought that the word Ukase was funny. Vampires began calling the hunters Ukase when they were first established. (It sounds like it's spelled because vampires have no imagination. U-case.).
Ukase means pig in vampire. Linc took that as a compliment but it stuck. They were Ukase. Even other hunters called themselves that. They were pigs.
A lot had changed from when they were first formed, there was no killing unless it was necessary. They couldn't abuse the vampires, it was a law or rule. It was simple capture and bring in. If a hunter got caught breaking a rule, they would be disbarred. Fired. No questions.
Linc had been fighting vampires for twelve years but came to work for The Hallowed Agency in this sector just seven years ago. He got paid to do what he loved. He hated that they had to try to capture them. He was all for killing them.
They had rules but sometimes killing can't be helped. Their big rule was Capture and bring in for judgment.
There were amendments to that rule. If it wasn't possible to stop them and killing was the only way to stop the vampire, they could kill. Linc didn't get to kill very often and had a lot of paperwork that went along with it so he tried not to kill. He hated paperwork.
"Our Ukases are pretty easy to figure out, Sir. Grayson loves hunting and he loves working with Linc. They actually get along very well. They know what the other is thinking. It's weird. Grayson is dedicated and loyal."
"Linc is....hungry? He loves to hunt but he looks forward to killing any vampires, when it's necessary. Grayson doesn't like to kill them. Linc always takes the responsibility for the team. Linc lives to hunt. I believe he would hunt with any team, anywhere. Anytime. He doesn't wear out." Emmett smiled.
"You have a lot of respect for Linc?" John saw that much.
"I do. Linc's different. I don't know how to describe him. If he got to hunt a vampire everyday, he would without fail or getting tired. He is always ready. I think that is all he does. Practices and hunts. I'm sure he dreams about it!"
"Grayson's amazing too. Don't get me wrong, but Grayson does other things. He dates and takes time off. He has a hobby. He paints."
"They said that every hunter should have something to do on the side. It takes some of the stress away. Linc doesn't. I don't think the job stresses him out, at all. I hope I didn't get him in trouble." Emmett should have kept quiet.
"You mean he doesn't take a vacation or have a hobby?" John was curious about Linc. "I'm worried that he will get burned out!"
Emmett shook his head. "Not him, Sir. Most people, I would agree but not Linc. He's different. He's very focused, all the time. The only thing on his mind is vampires."
"They have a hunting manual. He has it memorized, Sir. I mean that. He read it so many times that you can ask him what page a topic is on and he knows. I mean he has the manual memorized." Emmett sighed. Linc needed a life.
"Memorized! That is a five hundred page manual!" John stared.
"Five hundred and thirty-three pages to be exact." Emmett nodded. "I quiz him on it sometimes for fun. He's crazy smart."
"They make a great team?" John knew they did.
"You've read the reports. Yes they do." Emmett smiled.
"Well, Emmett, call me John from now on. I guess we will be working closely. I'll try not to let Greg down!" John smiled. "He was my mentor. It's tough to fill his shoes." This was John's first day and he was nervous. It was nice to talk to Emmett.
