I heard the bedroom door open and someone step inside.

"Go away, Hazel!"

They approached me slowly.

"Nico, it's me."

I knew that voice. Will?

I turned and gasped. I stared at him for a moment, trying to process that he was alive. I tackled him in a hug.

"Will! You-You're alive!"

He laughed at my surprise.

"Yeah, I guess so."

"How? I thought she k-killed you." I asked.

He shook his head.

"Lou Ellen found me and then brought me here to see you." He informed me.

"Really?"

He nodded. We sat in silence for a moment before he asked the question we both needed to know.

"So what happens now?"

I shook my head, wondering the same thing.

"I don't-I don't know. I guess that you go back to he castle and I-" Will stopped me.

"Nico, I'm not going to the castle. Not without you, and you could get hurt there."

"Will you have to. That's where your parents and friends are. That's where your life is, Will. I can't keep you from it. Maybe one day I can go back but Will-I had a panic attack just seeing your father." I argued.

Will bit his lip.

"Then I guess I'm not going back."

"Will, you have to."

"No. I'm staying with you."

I bit the inside of my cheek trying desperately to think of something that would convince him to leave me behind. A light went off in my head.

"If you don't go back to the castle, I'll go there myself." I threatened.

Will's jaw dropped and his eyes widened.

"No, no you wouldn't."

I looked him dead in the eye.

"Try me." I challenged.

His eyes started getting watery.

"No, Nico, they'll hurt you. You-you can't." He begged.

"You have to get back to your life. Without me." I told him.

"I did! I lived without you for over two years and it tore me apart, Nico! I can't do it again!"
My heart sank. I couldn't tell him that it tore me apart, too. You don't want me here..." He whispered.

"Will, I care about you too much to let myself be the cause of your not returning to a normal life."

"Nico, I don't want a normal life if it means a life without you..." He whimpered.

I sighed, knowing that I could win this if I wanted to. But did I want to?

"Nico, please don't make me leave. I want to stay here, with you." He begged once more.

I gave up. I couldn't leave him. Not right now.

"Okay. Fine. I'm not going to make you leave."

He looked up at me with teary eyes.

"Promise?"

I bit my lip, knowing that if I agreed I would have to break my promise down the road.
Maybe I couldn't help that, though.

"Promise."

Will grinned and pecked my forehead.

"Good."

Will and I were cuddling on the couch when Hazel came in. She smiled at us and motioned to the bag in her hand. I nodded slightly showing her I understood. I turned to Will.

Seeing him now, I felt horribly guilty for having to leave him, but I told myself it was unavoidable.

"Hey, Nico? Can I talk to you please?" Hazel asked.

"Okay." I said, trying to force the guilt away.

I followed her into the kitchen, with Will still in the living room.

"Are you sure you want to do this, Nico?" She asked.

I nodded. "I can't let Will ruin his life because of me. I have to leave."

She sighed but handed me the bag and I went outside. Then I started the run to the castle.

I got tired and started digging through the bag to find water. I took a quick drink and then kept walking.

Why does the castle seem so far away?!
I decided to just keep going. Finally, I saw the castle in the distance. I sighed of relief. I kept walking. But a while later I heard noises. Soldiers were patrolling the forest to find Will and I.

Uh oh....

I saw the glint of a soldier's helmet. I hid behind a thick tree.

"Shhhh! I think I heard someone." I heard one say.

"Percy, it was probably one of us that you heard."

"I don't know, Jason...." Percy, the soldier, pointed in the opposite direction, "It was coming from over there."

"Reyna? Will? Nico?" Jason rattled off random names that they were supposed to be looking for.

"Fine. It's me. Reyna." A girl stepped out from a tree opposite of me.

Anger bubbled inside me.

She tried to kill Will!

I was tempted to run out and attack her but I decided against it.

"Reyna! We're looking for the prince and the thief, Nico. Have you seen them?"

"Yes, in fact, I have."

"Okay first, where is the thief?"

I sucked a breath in.

Schist.

"Nico? He's at a cottage in he woods back there."

My hear pounded until I realized that she was pointing in direction opposite of where I really had lived. Percy and Jason each took one of her arms in their grasp and started walking that direction. Reyna rolled her eyes and kicked Percy in the face. Then she turned and punched Jason's jaw. Then she did something that really surprised me.
She looked straight at me and smiled! Then she knocked them both out. I walked out from my hiding spot.

"Why did you help me?"

She shrugged.

"Well even after I sent Lou go find him, I still had a guilty conscience so-"

"Wait you sent Lou Ellen?"

She nodded. "Yep, well, I really have to go. The guards won't stay unconscious for long."

I could only nod as she sprinted away.
But I didn't notice the direction she was going...
