Chapter 4: Hide me from the stares

I mean, he is handsome and cute and all, but - this is some kind of serious speed we're talking about right now.

"Earth to (L/N)! Are you there?"
"Huh. Uh. Yeah, sorry... I kinda zoned out" I apologized to Bokuto, who was waving his hands in front of my face. Him and Akaashi ended up giving me a tour of the school, which I was really thankful for.

They showed me everything.
The principal's office.
The teacher's lounge.
The cafeteria.
Classroms.
Windows.
The hall.
Walls.
"Drugs."
"Ooh- wait, WHAT!?" I slightly flinched to what Bokuto said jokingly. I knew he was joking after he started laughing like crazy.
"It was just a joke, (L/N)-chan!" he bursted out laughing. In place of what he called "drugs" was just grass. Grass from the schoolyard. Wow.

We walked through the whole school to the point where my legs started to ache. I honestly don't want to make another step.

And lastly, we reached the last place. Even outside of it, I could hear noises of something being hit and landing quickly on the floor as well as some screeching shoes. And then we went in. What I saw there was ....

"HEY HEY HEEEY!!!"
While Bokuto screamed at the top of his lungs, Akaashi just greeted normally.
"Hello."
And the others' also turned their attention to us.
"Good morning."
"Hey~"
"Mornin'!"

We went inside a sports hall. The hitting sounds I heard were actually people hitting those volleyballs. And the next sound were the volleyballs harshly landing on the other side of the court. The students' sports shoes made an echoing sound as soon as they made contact with the floor. And not to forget all those new faces I saw.

I didn't know anyone, besides Akaashi and Bokuto, whom I met just a few minutes earlier. I felt people staring at me. My instinct told me to avoid those curious eyes, so I did. I hid behind the black haired setter. Surprised by my sudden reaction, he gave me a worried look.

"Are you alright?", he asked.
"Y-yeah, it's just... people... staring...", I muttered out quietly. He stayed silent for a while, to which I thought he didn't hear me. But guess I thought wrong. Some silence later, he just answered: "Don't worry. You're safe here."

...

Was this seriously his attempt to make me feel comfortable? Because if it was ... it really worked.

I felt ... calmer ... and ... safer ... after he had said that. I felt ... safe ... near him.
