Chapter Nine

Namjoon's world exploded with an ear shattering bang, and he collapsed to the floor as everything turned to fire around him.

He didn't even feel himself hit the hard tiled floor before everything turned black.

-

Taehyung hung behind as Hoseok and Jimin raced inside the restaurant, their guns drawn.

He was about to go in as well, really.

It was just...

...his phone was ringing.

The same unknown number from before.

And this time, he answered it.

He turned down the dark street for privacy.

"Hello?"

-

Yoongi shoved his gun back into his belt, racing over to Namjoon and sliding the last foot on his knees in his desperation to get to his second in command as fast as possible.

"Namjoon? Namjoon!" Yoongi cried, grabbing the boy's torso and pulling it onto his lap. He cradled Namjoon's head against his chest. "God, Namjoon, no...I'm so sorry..."

Sam stumbled back, and he blinked a few times before glancing down at his chest, where red was blooming on his white shirt.

His eyes rolled back and he fell to the floor, just as Hoseok and Jimin raced in.

Hoseok kept his gun on the man on the floor as he pressed two fingers to the mans neck, checking his pulse.

Jimin ran up and crouched beside Yoongi and Namjoon. He placed a hand on Yoongi's shoulder, staring down at Namjoon. "Oh..."

Namjoon slowly came to, blinking up at them as his vision came back into focus.

"Yoon'i?" He mumbled. "What...what are you apologizing for?"

Yoongi sighed in relief. "For getting you in danger like this. I'm so sorry."

He buried his face into Namjoon's chest.

"You didn't shoot me." Namjoon chuckled, pressing one hand over his ear that wouldn't stop ringing. "Don't be a crybaby."

"You're a crybaby, crybaby." Yoongi muttered into the fabric.

"We need a medic!" Hoseok shouted, his hands pressed over the wound on Sam's chest. The man was unresponsive as blood gushed through Hoseok's fingers.

Jimin quickly radioed in for one, and Yoongi helped Namjoon to his feet.

"You should get checked out." Yoongi said, looking his second in command over. "I'm taking you to the hospital."

"I'm fine, I only fainted. And my ear is just-"

"We're taking you to the hospital." Yoongi glared.

Namjoon sighed. "Yes, sir."

Yoongi turned to Jimin. "And you should come too."

Jimin gave him a cold look. "Don't act like you care about me."

"Jimin, of course I-"

Jimin shook his head. "Save it. Actions speak louder than words, and your actions last night screamed in my face that you don't give a damn about what happens to me, as long as your own personal agenda is secured. I'm done trying. Have a nice life, Yoongi. As nice a life as you can have without me in it, anyways."

He walked away before Yoongi could say anything more.

Namjoon looked to Yoongi, knowing there was a story here. But he didn't want to press the leader right now.

A few moments later, the ambulance pulled up and two paramedics rushed up to Hoseok and helped him with the man who was bleeding out from Yoongi's bullet.

Yoongi searched for Jimin in the red and blue flashing lights as the police showed up as well, but he couldn't find the boy anywhere.

He sighed, rubbing his hand over his face.

A warm hand caressed his shoulder and Yoongi looked up to see Namjoon smiling at him.

"He'll come back. He's Jimin. He always bounces back, with a smile. I'm sure this time won't be different."

Yoongi wasn't as confident, but he pulled his car keys out. "Come on. Let's get your ear seen."

-

"Well the inner eardrum is damaged, but not shattered. We can fix it, but the recovery time will be about two weeks and if he suffers another loud blow like that again, he could lose his hearing in that ear permanently." The doctor said, looking over his notes.

Yoongi nodded, watching Namjoon sitting on the hospital cot.

As soon as the doctor left the room, Namjoon jumped up. "Let me explain!" He blurted before Yoongi could speak.

Yoongi glared, his arms crossed as he leaned against the wall. But he nodded.

"I know I should have told you I found a small lead on one of Seokjin's men, but I figured it was probably nothing and I didn't want to waste your time." Namjoon rushed to say. "We only texted and tonight was the first time I met him. Of course I had agents following Sam when we were busy on something else, but I didn't think he was dangerous at all! You know I would have let you know if I thought I found something worth sharing!"

Yoongi glared at him for a few long moments, before he sighed.

"Don't be an idiot in the future." Yoongi said.

Namjoon grinned. "I love you too."

-

"So, when you said you donated blood, you really meant it." Namjoon mused, sliding the puzzle piece of paper that had been in the file Seokjin gave to Yoongi before. The one about the bomb.

He slid it across the table to Sam, who sat handcuffed in a chair.

The man was stoic, not saying anything to the agents in the room.

It was a few hours after the restaurant incident, and Sam had recovered from Yoongi shooting him in the chest. He was now being interrogated by Namjoon, Yoongi and Hoseok.

The man glanced down at the paper and continued his silent treatment to the agents.

Yoongi sighed from where he leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest.

"This guy knows nothing, let's just give him life in prison for attempted murder of a federal agent and get lunch." He snapped.

Sam, an idiot, took the bait.

"Hey! I know a lot of things! That's why Jin let me get so close, because he knew I could keep secrets!" Sam sat up in his chair.

"Jin?" Namjoon raised an eyebrow.

Sam nodded smugly. "He lets me call him that, because we were so close."

"More like he only let you call him that because he knew you would die soon." Yoongi muttered.

Hoseok pulled his chair up. "Then where is Jin now, huh? If you two are so close, why isn't he here to bail you out?"

Sam looked uncomfortable for a second. "He's busy." He gained some confidence back and smirked at Yoongi. "Busy running around in the shadows. You have no idea what's about to happen."

Yoongi yawned.

"Tell us what you know and we'll tell the D.A. you cooperated with us." Namjoon informed him.

But Sam shook his head, shutting his mouth once more.

Yoongi sighed in annoyance. He didn't have time for this. Jimin wasn't responding to his texts and neither was Taehyung.

He knew Taehyung had walked out on them but he was expecting the boy to return. He was just emotional over Jungkook and it was easy to blame Yoongi.

He walked out of the interrogation room and Namjoon followed him.

"Yoongi- you okay?" His second in command asked, worried.

"I was an idiot." Yoongi confessed.

Namjoon paused. "Is...is that even possible?"

"Seokjin told me how he knew about what happened between us back at the academy, and I actually believed you were working for him." Yoongi groaned, putting his head in his hands. "Like a total fucking idiot I actually believed you had betrayed me."

Namjoon chuckled, walking over to hug the boy. "I told Sam that to get him to trust me, but obviously saying it happened in college instead of the academy. He must have told Seokjin and Seokjin used that to make you think I would actually hurt you like that."

"I'm sorry," Yoongi mumbled against Namjoon's shirt.

"It's okay, Yoongs." Namjoon hugged him tightly. "You know I would never do that to you. Ever."

"I know." Yoongi pushed back. "I'm going out, finish up here with Hoseok, will you?"

Namjoon nodded, watching his leader leave, a dark look in his eyes.

-

Hoseok leaned forward, resting his arms on the table.

"Look, you don't wanna be here, and I don't wanna be here, so let's just cut to the chase. Tell us anything about what Seokjin is planning next and we'll go easy on you." He sighed, tired.

Sam smirked. "You really wanna know?"

Hoseok decided to humor him.

"Yes."

"You really wanna know?"

"Yes."

"You realllllllly wanna-"

"Tell me." Hoseok's patience wore out.

Sam had leaned forward as well, and their faces were just an inch apart.

Hoseok stared at the criminals eyes, wishing he could read minds.

And then Sam suddenly headbutted the agent, and Hoseok fell back in his chair in shock and pain.

With his hands still handcuffed, Sam quickly flipped the table, letting it crash over the disoriented agent.

Hoseok groaned in pain as the table knocked the air out of him, one hand grabbed his bleeding forehead.

Sam raced around the upside down table and crouched beside Hoseok, fumbling for the mans gun.

Hoseok got his bearings back just in time to see the barrel of his own gun pointed right at his face.

He froze, his hands rising up to his cheeks in surrender. "Sam...don't...you'll get a lenient sentence if you cooperate with us. You'll get the death penalty if you shoot me."

Sam just smiled. "I'm not going to shoot you."

And with that he turned the gun on himself.

"No!" Hoseok jumped to his feet just as Sam pulled the trigger, and the criminals blood splatter the mirror, the walls, the table, and Hoseok.

-

Taehyung looked down at the address the unknown number had texted him.

He didn't trust the person on the other end, of course, but it beat sitting around at home while Yoongi ran around and got everyone killed.

It was a large abandoned warehouse, and the single bulb above the wooden doors was flickering.

Taehyung stuffed the phone back in his pocket and headed inside.

The door creaked as he opened it, and he found the entire vast space to be lit with only one bulb as well, hanging from the middle of the ceiling.

It was empty- except for the person standing under the circle of light.

Taehyung let the door slam loudly shut behind him as he stalked over to the man.

Kim Seokjin smirked at him.

"Ah, Taehyungie. How nice to meet you in person."

Taehyung glared, whipping his gun out from where he had hidden it from underneath his jacket.

Seokjin didn't flinch in the slightest. He sighed. "Agents and their toys. So annoying."

"Give me one good reason not to shoot you right now." Taehyung demanded.

"Do it." Seokjin challenged. "Maybe I won't give you a reason at all. Go ahead, Taehyungie. Shoot me. Shoot the bad man. Do it!"

Taehyung glared, keeping his finger curled tightly around the trigger.

But he didn't pull it.

Seokjin waited a full minute for him to shoot, and when Taehyung didn't, he sneered.

"It's not a 'good reason', like you asked for, but I do have something to give you." Seokjin held up a hand under the light and studied his nails.

"What?" Taehyung called out.

"A business proposition." Seokjin grinned, dropping his hand.

"Work with me, Taehyung."

Taehyung froze, his gun still held out.

"What do you mean?" He finally asked.

"Flip sides. Leave Yoongi and join me. I'll make you my right hand man. Together, we would be unstoppable." Seokjin urged.

"You're already unstoppable, why do you need me?" Taehyung glared.

"Aww, thanks." Seokjin chuckled. "And because, imagine the look on Yoongi's face when he sees he's lost another member of his team to me. He lost Jungkook, and he's lost Jimin too. He thinks you'll come walking right back to him- prove him he's wrong. Pull one over on the smartest man alive." He surged forward and Taehyung backed up, his gun faltering.

Hearing Jungkook's name after so long made his heart pound and his brain lose focus.

"I was just doing my job," Seokjin cooed, suddenly hugging the agent from behind. "I'm the bad guy, I kill people. But Yoongi is the good guy, he's supposed to save them. But he was the one who got Jungkook killed. We both know that. Jungkook knew that in his final moments. I know you've wanted your revenge on Yoongi for a while now. Join me, and I promise you that you'll get that."

Taehyung blinked, his gun feeling heavy in his hand.

He lowered it.

"You blew Jungkook up." Taehyung reminded the man over his shoulder.

Seokjin nodded, admitting it. He pet the agents hair. "Yes, I pressed the button and watched the house explode, guilty as charged, Taehyungie."

He leaned forward, resting his chin on Taehyung's shoulder.

"But," he whispered in the agent's ear. "I'll tell you something. Yoongi sent you two to that house, knowing there was a bomb there."

Taehyung froze, his blood turning to ice.

"He knew, Taehyungie. He took a calculated risk, and it got Jungkook killed. It would have killed you too if you had run back inside." Seokjin felt the goosebumps rise up on Taehyung's arms and he grinned.

He pulled back and walked to stand in front of the boy.

He held out his hand.

"So, what do you say, partners?"

Taehyung stared at the hand for a long time, thinking.

In the end, he holstered his gun and shook Seokjin's hand.

-

Later that evening, Taehyung walked into Yoongi's office, where the man was working at his computer.

Yoongi looked up. "Oh."

"I'm back." Taehyung mumbled.

Yoongi smiled. "I knew you would come back. Good. We start tomorrow, early like usual. Be there."

Taehyung didn't reply, just let the door slam shut behind him.

As he walked down the hallway, he couldn't help but smirk to himself, his eyes glittering.

The man had no idea the blindside Taehyung was about to deliver.
