 The Shadow Theory is the twelfth studio album by the American/European metal band Kamelot. The songs on the album are united by a common theme of human introspect. Thomas Youngblood stated about the album: "The Shadow Theory album is a psychological journey through the complexity of the human mind. We are subjected to stimuli constantly through media, technology, social experiments and AI. Can we still be social creatures in the near future? The Shadow Theory is an album that is mixing many worlds, giving the listener an escape within our own realities."

 The Shadow Theory was the first album to feature Johan Nunez as the band's drummer after the departure of longtime member Casey Grillo.
