chapter 5 - The World Has Turned and Left Me Here

Outfits in the external link

From 1.01 "Pilot", night in the woods, over the fog-covered forest floor.

Kaylin: (voice over) "Previously on Worlds Colliding (The Vampire Diaries)"

From 5.22 "Home", on the Other Side, The Other Side came crashing down, overrun by chaotic winds.

Bonnie: (voice over from 5.21 Promised Land) "The Other Side is collapsing, and everyone in it is going away."

From 5.22 "Home", in the Salvatore Mausoleum, Luke and Ryan woke Tory and Lindsey up.

Luke looked between them in regret. "Damon and Kacie didn't make it through."

From 6.02 "Yellow Ledbetter", in the girls' dorm room, Elena and Liv were talking.

"Alaric will compel away any memories, and then make me forget that I had him do it," Elena told her.

From 6.02 "Yellow Ledbetter", in the girls' dorm room, Elena, Liv and Alaric were talking.

Alaric compelled Elena. "Who is Damon Salvatore?"

"He was a monster," Elena told them.

From 6.02 "Yellow Ledbetter", in the prison world's Town Square, Kacie, Bonnie and Damon were in the street.

"Where the hell are we?" Damon asked.

From 6.02 "Yellow Ledbetter", in the prison world, outside the Gilbert House, Damon showed them the date on the newspaper.

"1992," Bonnie told them.

From 6.03 "Welcome to Paradise", in the prison world, outside the small store, Damon, Kacie and Bonnie were talking.

"We're never getting out," Damon told them.

From 6.03 "Welcome to Paradise", in the prison world, in the small store, Kai was lounged in a chair, eating pork rinds.

Bonnie: (voice over from 6.02 Yellow Ledbetter) "There's someone else here."

From 6.04 "Black Hole Sun", in the prison world's boarding house, Damon, Kacie, Bonnie and Kai were talking.

"To get home, we'll harness the power of the eclipse using a mystical relic," Kai told them. "It's called an Ascendant."

From 6.04 "Black Hole Sun", just outside Mystic Falls, Kaylin and Nicola were talking.

"If you think that everything is fine between Enzo and me, then you haven't been paying attention," Kaylin told her. "I've been avoiding him ever since I found out that he killed Ivy."

"Yeah, Tyler helped me a lot," Nicola told her.

"I know you like him, Nikki, and it's so obvious that he likes you," Kaylin told her. "Why do you keep pushing people away like that?"

"So I don't have to worry about falling for him," Nicola answered. "No matter what happens, no matter who it is, whoever falls for someone in our family, they always pay for it, or they end up dead. I don't want that to happen to Tyler."

"Just let the walls come down, okay?" Kaylin asked.

From 6.04 "Black Hole Sun", in the boarding house, Jeremy and Eliza were talking.

Jeremy looked at her in realization. "That's why you changed so much after Bonnie and Kacie died. You think it's your fault."

Later, Jeremy and Eliza were sitting together on the couch, having drinks in hand, talking.

"I know that Bonnie's... death... was inevitable," Eliza told him. "But Kacie and Damon... I know that they didn't die because of me, but they were stuck on the Other Side because of me. Because they were at the Grill when I needed help with my mom. The reason that they were too late to go home. Because they were helping me save my mother's life." She started to cry, placing her drink on the table in front of them. "There has to be a way to find them, to bring them back. Because hope that I can't let go of for them to come back is the only thing that's keeping me going, Jer."

Jeremy wrapped his arms around Eliza, holding her. Eliza cried in his arms, wrapping his arms around him, leaning her head against his chest. Jeremy smoothed back her hair, letting her cry, looking guilty yet relieved that Eliza had finally opened up and let herself feel again.

From 6.03 "Welcome to Paradise", in Dean's garage, Stefan opened the trunk to reveal Ivy's body. "This is my girlfriend, Ivy. My sister's boyfriend killed her last night right in front of me."

From 6.03 "Welcome to Paradise", in the woods, Stefan and Kaylin were arguing.

"He hates me, I hate him, and you're stuck in the middle," Stefan told her. "You're always stuck in the middle."

"You think that if you kill Enzo, I will hate you again, so you can just leave and go start over like you want?" Kaylin asked.

From 6.04 "Black Hole Sun", in Dean's garage, Stefan turned around, seeing Ivy standing behind him, her face covered in blood. Stefan was shocked. "Ivy."

"Stefan, I don't feel so good," Ivy told him. "Your friend Enzo made me drink his blood, and now... I'm so thirsty."

Ivy transformed hungrily.

From 6.04 "Black Hole Sun", in the warehouse, Tripp and Matt walked inside.

Enzo was sitting on the floor, his wrists and ankles chained to the wall.

Matt and Enzo exchanged a knowing look.

Matt kept his expression blank.

Tripp looked at Matt. "Vampires. They are real. And one murdered my wife. And I'm gonna get him to name all his vampire buddies."

Matt was worried, but held onto his composure.

Two Weeks Later

Savannah, Georgia

Day One

Night - Stefan's House - Stefan's Room

Stefan was lying in bed, asleep. His phone vibrated. He woke, sitting up, grabbing his phone, switching on the lamp, answering the phone. "Hello?"

Tripp was in the back of his van, looking over all of the stakes. "Hey, Tripp Cooke. I, uh, just wanted to thank you for turning over that vampire Enzo to me. He's been very... helpful."

"Enzo?" Stefan repeated. "I--I thought--thought you were supposed to kill him."

"Oh, I will, eventually," Tripp told him. "Once I know everything he does."

Stefan opened his mouth to speak, hesitating. "So, what has he told you?"

"Sounds like the vampire problem in Mystic Falls isn't as bad as I thought," Tripp told him. "I mean, if he had any names, he'd have given them up. Lord knows I've done plenty of things to get him to talk."

"Well, that's, um, good to hear," Stefan told him.

"Yeah," Tripp told him. "Seems like it's moved on to Savannah. I've sent some of my guys down there. They're gonna check it out, see what they find."

"Thanks for the, uh, heads up," Stefan told him.

"Founding Families, gotta stick together," Tripp told him.

"Absolutely," Stefan told him, hanging up, looking around. There was a noise from downstairs. Stefan jumped, setting his phone on the table, slowly standing. "Ivy?"

Downstairs - Kitchen

The house was trashed, chairs broken, glass everywhere.

Stefan walked into the kitchen to see Ivy going through the fridge. "You redecorated."

Ivy turned to face him. "I should probably tell you I killed your boss. Dean? I woke up, and he was burying me in the woods. I drank every drop of his blood. It wasn't enough."

"Yeah, I know the feeling," Stefan told her.

"Then why aren't you helping me?" Ivy asked.

"I'm trying to help you," Stefan told her.

"Two weeks worth of blood bags and a lesson on sunlight?" Ivy asked. "Wow. Thanks a million."

Ivy turned back to the fridge.

"Listen, I have to get you out of Savannah," Stefan told her.

"Hey, I am dead because of you," Ivy told him. "Because you lied to me about who you were. Because your friend Enzo turned me into something straight out of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'."

"Ivy, calm down," Stefan told her. "When you are a vampire, your emotions are heightened."

"You think?" Ivy asked. "Look at me. I used to be a decent person. I got good grades. I went home for Christmas. I had a freaking Etsy store."

"Ivy, please," Stefan told her.

"And now, I am a killer," Ivy told him. "And all I am going to do is kill more, and more, and it's all your fault."

Ivy transformed, rushing toward Stefan.

Stefan snapped Ivy's neck, letting her body fall to the floor. He sighed, frustrated.

Day Two

Morning - Whitmore College - The Girls' Dorm Room

(Song:) Move Up - The TVC

Caroline and Alex were talking.

Caroline was wrapped in a towel, just out of the shower. "You shouldn't have told her."

"I had no choice to tell her," Alex told her. "Having her berate me for loving Damon every five minutes was driving me insane." Caroline gave her a look. Alex sighed. "And maybe, just maybe I didn't mean to say it, but it was too late to stop myself from saying it."

"Oh, you think?" Caroline asked.

"Look, I told her two weeks ago," Alex told her. "Get over it already. I gotta go. I'm late for Occult Studies." She turned to the door, resting her hand on the doorknob. There was a knock from on the other side. Alex answered the door, looking at who was on the other side in confusion. "Stefan? Where have you--?"

Stefan walked inside, carrying a black trunk. "I need a favor."

Stefan set the trunk on the floor.

Alex closed the door. "What are you doing?"

Caroline leaned down to open the trunk. "And what is with this truck?"

"Hang on," Stefan told her, closing the window curtains.

Caroline opened the trunk.

Ivy popped out of the trunk.

Caroline stood straight, shrieking out of surprise. "Oh, my God!"

"Where am I?" Ivy asked. She looked at Stefan. "What did you do?"

Stefan made a face.

"Ivy, how did this happen?" Alex asked.

"Uh, Enzo turned her," Stefan answered.

Alex tilted her head.

"Then Stefan broke my neck, and I woke up in a trunk," Ivy told them.

"Right," Stefan told them. "So, I need a little bit of help."

Alex looked at Stefan in realization. "No." She looked at Ivy. "No." She looked at Caroline. "No." She looked at Stefan, speaking with a complaining voice. "No!"

"Just watch her for a little while, while I get Tory or Lindsey to make her a daylight ring," Stefan told them. Ivy stood, getting out of the trunk. "Show her the ropes, teach her some control."

"You know that I am no good at control," Alex told him. "What makes you think that I am any good at teaching control?"

Stefan looked at Caroline.

"No," Caroline told him. "No. This is not our mess." She pointed at Stefan. "This is your mess."

Stefan looked at Alex. "A mess that wouldn't have happened if you, Kaylin and Nikki had just left me alone."

Alex pointed at Stefan. "No, you do not get to make this out to be my fault, or Kaylin and Nicola's. Enzo lied to us about where we were going, okay? We had no idea that we would see you, or that you were in a few hours distance away from here. You brought Ivy into this, so you can deal with it."

Ivy was behind Caroline and Alex. "Um, I can hear you, you know? I can hear everything, like, perfectly."

"Do I need to remind you that there is a vampire hunter lurking around?" Alex asked.

"He's not here," Stefan told them. "He's in Savannah, which is why we're not."

Ivy fell back onto Alex's bed, looking at Stefan and Alex. "You know the real tragedy in all this? I read, 'you're so not over each other', and--"

Alex and Stefan looked at Ivy in annoyance. "Shut up."

Stefan looked at Caroline and Alex. "Look, Tripp Cooke has somehow decided to become the eastern seaboard's self-proclaimed vampire hunter. None of us are safe, if we can't control ourselves." He looked at Alex. "You may not be able to teach her control..." He looked at Caroline. "But if anybody can teach her, it's you."

"Yeah?" Caroline asked. "Well, you don't have to flatter me, because I already know that."

"All right?" Stefan asked. "So just a couple of hours, and then you'll never have to deal with me again."

Alex looked at Stefan, slightly hurt. "Is that what you think I want?"

"I don't know," Stefan told her. "You tell me."

Alex and Stefan looked at each other for a moment.

"Okay," Alex told him. "I'll, uh, go to the blood bank at the medical center and get something to at least hold her off for now."

"Thank you," Stefan told her, walking past, walking out of the room, leaving them alone.

Ivy looked at Caroline and Alex. "When do we eat?"

Caroline sighed in annoyance, putting a hand to her head.

Alex slowly looked at Ivy stupidly.

------

Whitmore College - Alaric's Classroom

Alaric had written HOMECOMING on the board, underlining it. "Homecoming." He turned to face the class. "All right. By a show of hands, who knows the supernatural origin of tonight's homecoming party?" No one raised their hands. Elena gave Alaric a small wave and a smile. "A civil war soldier Nathan Whitmore, horribly disfigured throughout countless battles, somehow survived them all just so he could get home to the woman he loved, and when he finally got home to his farm, he found her in bed with his brother, who had initially with that woman's sister, and Nathan and the sister, Emily, did what any sane people would do... Nathan murdered his brother in cold blood and Emily chased her sister out into the cornfield's. But the legend goes that Lady Whitmore is out on this night every year dressed in white, covered in her lover's blood, running through the cornfields, screaming for her life." All of the students exchanged a look. "And the moral of the story is? Do not fall in love, especially with your brother's girl, especially when the girl you are dating is the sister of the woman you are having an affair with." Alaric looked at Elena. Elena rolled her eyes, knowing what he was talking about. "All right, kids. You have a fun night tonight. Be safe."

All of the students closed their books, gathering their things, standing, walking out of the room.

Elena and Eliza walked up to Alaric.

"You know, that cautionary tale would have had more of an impact on me about two weeks ago," Elena told him.

"Damon may be gone, but I can still find pleasure in judging his life choices," Alaric told them.

Eliza looked at Elena. "Speaking of which, have you changed your mind about you having him compel you to forget about him yet?"

"Why do you say, 'yet', as if I'm gonna wake up one day and realize that my life is over if I don't have the traumatic memories of loving a serial killer?" Elena asked.

"Had to ask," Eliza told her.

"You know, maybe you're right," Elena told her. "Maybe I am making a huge mistake, or maybe I got a very valuable piece of advice from myself about how to be happy and I intend on taking it." Eliza shrugged. "You seem to be in a good mood."

"I am," Eliza told them. "I had a good talk with Jeremy, got everything off of my chest, re-established my hope for Bonnie, Kacie and Damon to come back, and had a very good cry, which is something I hadn't thought that I needed since the night it happened. It may have taken two weeks since then to get to this point, but, now, I feel good. Not the way I used to be, but I can hopefully get there soon. And the first order of business to getting things back to the way things were..." She looked at Alaric. "Are we gonna see you at the party tonight?"

"You know, I'm waiting on the mixer for thirty-something vampires just back from the dead," Alaric told her. "Less of a crowd."

"Come on, Alaric," Eliza told him. "You are, like, one hoodie and three missed haircuts away from becoming Professor Shane."

"I am perfectly content staying at home, letting my hair grow out," Alaric told her.

"You're hiding," Eliza told him. "You're becoming a self-loathing vampire hermit. Tell you what. You've been given the chance to start over. Take it. Be happy."

"I am happy-ish," Alaric told them.

"Exactly," Eliza told him. "I'll see you at 8:00, but not in that T-shirt. You've worn it twice this week."

Eliza walked out of the room.

------

Hallway

Eliza and Elena walked down the hallway.

Elena smiled. "Now, this is the Eliza Forbes that I missed so." She wrapped her arm around Eliza's shoulders. Eliza smiled. Elena looked down the hall. "That's Liam."

"Good," Eliza told her. "Go ask him out to the party."

"Eliza..." Elena trailed off.

"Elena," Eliza replied. "Go. You guys wanted me to bounce back, remember? Well, I am in the process of bouncing back. But it's harder to do than I thought. So, go ask him out and make all of this worth something."

Elena gave Eliza a smile. "Fine."

Elena walked toward Liam.

Eliza watched her go, taking out her phone, calling someone.

Jeremy's voice was on the other line. "Hello?"

"Are you busy tonight?" Eliza asked.

Jeremy was in the Lockwood Mansion's living room. "On the Friday of homecoming weekend when I don't even go to school? No. I'm studying."

Eliza smiled. "Sarcasm. What an unexpected response from you, Jer. I think you should come to the corn maze with me."

"A corn maze?" Jeremy repeated.

"Mm-hmm," Eliza answered.

"Will Dorothy and Toto be joining us?" Jeremy asked.

"Hilarious," Eliza told him. "You know, there's an actual scientific word for why people go to these events."

"And what's that?" Jeremy asked.

"Fun," Eliza answered. "Do you feel like having some with me for a change?"

"That depends," Jeremy told her. "Is this new light and happy tone in your voice a temporary thing?"

"That depends," Eliza told him. "Are you gonna help me stay light and happy?"

"If it means that you're back for good, then hell, yeah," Jeremy answered.

Eliza smiled. "I'll see you tonight."

Jeremy smiled, relieved to hear the way Eliza was acting her normal self.

Eliza hung up, looking toward Elena and Liam, making another call.

"You heard about the corn maze, right?" Elena asked.

"Of course," Liam answered. "I was conned into bringing the beer."

"Then why don't you come with me?" Elena asked.

"As a date or as friends where you try to set me up with someone again?" Liam asked.

"As a date," Elena answered.

Liam took a moment to answer. "Okay."

Elena smiled. "Good. I got to go. More people to invite."

"You're inviting multiple people to be your date tonight," Liam stated.

"I'm inviting multiple people to join in on the fun," Elena told him. "As for who my date will be, well, that depends on you."

Elena smiled, turning around, walking away, walking past Eliza as she did.

Eliza was still on the phone, smiling.

Nicola's voice was on the other line. "A Halloween Homecoming corn maze? Seriously?" Nicola was in her house, walking down the hall. "Do you know how stupid that sounds?"

"It'll be fun," Eliza told her. "We need some fun, and so do you. Tyler's got to run some gear over to the football stadium, but he asked me to ask you if you want him to pick you up after, so you could go together."

"You mean, like, a date?" Nicola asked. "Because definitely not."

"Come on, Nicola," Eliza told her.

"Eliza, if you are trying to set up dates with multiple persons, that means that you are definitely back," Nicola told her. Eliza smiled, tilting her head. "All it takes is liquor and hours-long talks with Little Gilbert over the last couple of weeks, and you're already pushing your way through the darkness of the last four months."

"Well, it had to be done," Eliza told her. "was beginning to scare me. So, please, come, say, 'welcome back' in person. Because I wanna talk, and it's not something I should say over the phone."

"Okay, I'll think about it," Nicola told her.

"Yay," Eliza told her, hanging up.

Nicola smirked, shaking her head, hanging up.

Nicola's House - Kitchen

Nicola turned to the fridge, opening it to see tons of blood bags, reaching inside, pulling one out to drink. "You want one?"

Kaylin was sitting at the table behind her. "Don't mind if I do." Nicola pulled out another blood bag, tossing it to Kaylin, closing the door to the fridge, sitting across the table from her. "That was a pretty agreeable response to Eliza's set-up date with Tyler."

"Well, if it means that Eliza gets to come out of the numbing-to-the-pain phase, then she needs a little encouragement to come back to her bright, ray of sunshine self, right?" Nicola asked, taking a drink of blood.

"Yeah, or you just wanna see Tyler," Kaylin told her, smirking knowingly.

Nicola didn't answer, looking at the blood bags in their hands. "You know, I forgot to get glasses."

Kaylin smiled as the change of subject.

Nicola stood, turning to the counter, opening a cupboard.

"You know, you're not fooling anybody," Kaylin told her. "I know you are falling for him, just like he's falling for you."

Nicola pulled out two glasses from the cupboard. "Yeah, or I'm trying to repay him for the last four months of keeping me from falling off the edge."

Nicola sat down, setting the glasses on the table in front of them.

"Yeah, or you're just using that as an excuse to deny that you're caring about someone other than your toxic, vampire family," Kaylin told her. Nicola poured the blood into the glasses, not looking at Kaylin. "Nikki, it's not a bad thing to care. It's actually a very good thing. Remember our talk about giving it a chance and finding happiness in a life that is dark and twisted?"

"God, yes, Kaylin, I do," Nicola answered. "If I give this a chance, at least try to be happy, will you leave me alone about it?"

Kaylin smiled. "Deal."

Nicola rolled her eyes, smirking.

They clinked their glasses together, drinking.

Prison World

Woods

Damon, Bonnie and Kacie were walking through the woods.

Kacie was whistling, playing with a stick.

"You're in the best mood you've been all decade, and that's saying something," Bonnie told her.

Kacie poked Damon with the stick.

"Stop that," Damon told her.

Kacie poked Bonnie with the stick. "Because I have a hot date with my guy tonight."

"Yeah, assuming Kai's telling the truth," Damon told her, walking ahead of them.

"I'm thinking dinner and a movie," Kacie told them. "You know what? Screw the dinner and a movie. Skip straight to the good part. Oh, my God, I miss Matt so much. And I can't imagine the guilt that Ty must be punishing himself with, and, you know, considering the martyr that my half-sister is, I bet Tory is making herself feel responsible for not being able to finish the spell to bring us back. Not that any of that will matter once I get back and everything goes back to the way it was."

Kacie poked Bonnie with the stick.

Bonnie jumped a little bit. "Yeah. And assuming I can do the spell, which I won't know until I see it."

"But you got this," Kacie told her, using the stick to loop through the bone necklace around Bonnie's neck and show her. "The creepy thing that will allow you to tap into Tory and Lindsey's power and help you finish the powerful spell that will allow us to go home."

"Yeah, that's if the necklace will actually work, considering that we're in a completely different world than they are," Bonnie told her.

"Whatever happened to hope, Bonnie?" Kacie asked. "You were my optimist buddy. Remember when Damon was all like 'ooh, grr!' Still is." Damon gave her a look. Kacie ignored him, looking at Bonnie. "And we were like, 'Hooray, hooray! We're getting out of here'?"

"Look, I want to go home more than anything, but Kai's a sociopath," Bonnie told them. "Who's to say he won't screw us over?"

"Me," Kacie answered. "I say because I will kill Kai and anyone..." She did a playful jumping stance with the stick. "Who comes in the way of us going home."

Kai appeared out of nowhere, carrying an ax. "I heard my name. All good, I wish." He also had the Ascendant in his hand, using it to block the sun from his eyes as he looked up at the sky. "The eclipse will happen directly overhead." He looked at them. "In perfect with the Gemini constellation." He looked at Damon. "You need to dig into the tunnels below us."

"Why?" Kacie asked.

Kai paused for a second and spoke to Kacie slowly as if she was a young child. "Have you never portal jumped through an eclipse before?" When he saw that none of them were amused, he took a step forward. "Okay, look, the light of the eclipse will shine down and activate that Ascendant." He looked at Bonnie. "You get help from your friends and spout a little witchy woo, and then poof." He gestured an explosion with his hands. Bonnie raised her eyebrows. "Anyone standing in the circle of light, holding the Ascendant goes home."

"By 'witchy woo', I assume you mean the spell," Bonnie told him.

"Uh-huh," Kai answered.

"Let me see it," Bonnie told him.

Kai hesitated. "When the time comes."

Kai pushed past them.

"Where are you going?" Damon asked.

"Into town," Kai answered. "I need to... gather some important supplies."

Kai turned around, whistling, walking away, leaving.

Damon picked up the ax Kai had put into the ground, looking at Bonnie and Kacie.

Bonnie and Kacie raised their eyebrows.

Damon turned forward, raising the ax above his head, slashing it into the ground.

Real World

Whitmore College - The Girls' Dorm Room

Caroline was kneeling in front of the mini fridge.

The door opened.

Caroline stood instantly, turning to face Ivy.

Ivy twirled in her dress. "What do you think?"

"I think you're wearing my little sister Eliza's dress," Caroline answered. "And you must be deaf, because I already said the party's not happening." She tossed a blood bag to Ivy. "That's the last one, which is why Alex is going to the medical center as we speak to get more."

"Good, because I'm hungry," Ivy told her, opening the tube, taking a drink. "So you'd rather be locked in a dorm room with a newbie vampire?"

Caroline sat on her bed. "No. I would rather be at the party, just like I'd rather have friends who didn't ignore me for months and then use me when they need help."

Ivy pulled the tube free of her mouth. "Whoa. Just realized why Stefan brought me here to learn control. Just do yourself a favor. Unwind." She sat down on Alex's bed. "So, what's the story with Stefan and Alex?" Caroline looked at Ivy in confusion. "I know that they used to date, but..."

"Why do you want to know this?" Caroline asked.

"Because I want to know what I'm up against," Ivy answered. "I see the way that they look at each other. They were totally in love with each other, and they still are, but he pisses her off, and she pretends to hate him? Is that the way it works?"

"When you hurt Alex, you end up paying the price," Caroline told her. "Their relationship is complicated and long and has a lot of pain and darkness, but, yeah, they were so happy when they were together." There was a long moment of silence. "Okay, aren't you supposed to be practicing your vamping or something?"

Ivy rushed to stand in front of Caroline. "Done. See? I'm fine. You already put your and Alex's numbers into my phone as my emergency vampire contacts. I know I burn in the sun. We covered compulsion and snatch, eat, erase." She looked at the window. "Look, it's getting dark. Let's go party. You can teach me how to eat someone without killing them."

"Stefan will be here very soon, and then you can do whatever you want with him," Caroline told her.

"Can we at least play a board game or do something non-vampire related?" Ivy asked.

"Finally, a good idea," Caroline told her, standing, walking toward the cabinet. "What kind of game do you want to play?"

"I don't know," Ivy told her. "Scrabble?"

"I have tournament, classic and travel-sized," Caroline told her.

Ivy grabbed Caroline's head, twisting, snapping her neck. She let her body fall to the floor, rushing out of the room.

Corn Maze

A girl dressed as Lady Whitmore held up a torch, running through the maze, screaming hysterically. She reached the open section, meeting up with the crowd, using the torch to light the bonfire.

(Song:) Wasted - Tiesto feat. Matthew Koma

Everyone cheered.

Eliza whooped, smiling.

Jeremy walked up to Eliza, holding a red cup and a black cup, tapping her shoulder with the red cup.

Eliza turned toward Jeremy, trying to take the red cup.

Jeremy pulled it back. "Explain it to me again. You even got Ric and Nicola to agree to come here?"

"It's kind of a setup for both Alaric and Nicola, with that doctor Jo Laughlin and Tyler, only neither party knows about it," Eliza told him, taking the red cup. "Come on." She used a country accent. "It's time to get your Kansas on."

They smiled, walking into the corn maze.

Night - Unknown Street

Alex walked along the streets of the campus, leaving a message for Stefan. "Stefan, hey. This is the third message alerting you that your psychotic little she-vamp has gone AWOL, and if you hadn't noticed, it's dark outside, so every dead sorority girl tonight is officially on you."

Alex hung up, continuing to look for Ivy.

------

Tory's House - Foyer

Lindsey and Tory walked toward the door in the house.

"So, Eliza invited us to a college party for Homecoming, and you're actually thinking about going?" Tory asked.

Lindsey nodded. "Why not?"

"Uh, maybe because we're not in college," Tory answered. "Why do you want to go?"

"Uh, maybe because we need some fun," Lindsey told her in the same way. "Come on. Luke and Ryan are already heading out there. It's only fair to meet up with them."

Tory smirked, opening the door. Her smile faded when she saw who was behind it. "Oh."

Stefan looked at them. "Tory. Lindsey. Hey."

"Stefan, hi," Tory told him. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm assuming you two heard that Enzo had killed my girlfriend when he, Alex, Kaylin and Nikki came to visit me up in Savannah, because you two did a locator spell to find me," Stefan told them.

"Ivy, yeah," Tory answered.

"Yeah, well, she's not dead," Stefan told them.

There was a moment of silence as they processed what he meant.

"Are you telling us that Enzo turned her?" Tory asked.

"Yeah," Stefan answered. "I went to Alex and Caroline for them to watch over her, and my next stop is to go to Alaric, but I need to talk to the two of you first."

"Why?" Lindsey asked. Stefan didn't answer. "Oh, no, let me guess." Lindsey crossed her arms over her chest. "You want us to make Ivy a daylight ring, bracelet, necklace, whatever... Don't you?"

"Yeah," Stefan answered.

"Why would we do that?" Tory asked. "I mean, we made Alaric a daylight ring because we knew him. But we have no idea who this Ivy girl is."

"Look, I'm just trying to help Ivy," Stefan told them. "I mean, I didn't get to help Damon, and he was my brother. You guys didn't get to help him either."

Tory looked at Stefan incredulously. "Are you serious? You're gonna play the 'Damon is dead, and it's partially our fault' card? Are you kidding me? We were in the middle of the freaking spell, Stefan, when Lucas made the lights go out. Figuratively and literally. It was not our fault. We would've kept going until we were dead, just to get Damon, Kacie and Bonnie back. But we didn't. We didn't give up, we were knocked out. Your brother is dead, but so is my sister. And if you think that even for a second that I haven't felt guilty about that night ever since, because Matt loved her, and my half-brother lost his sister, then--"

Lindsey cut her off, looking at Stefan. "This Ivy girl, your girlfriend from Savannah. You told us that she was a witch who knew how to help us to help find Damon and Bonnie and Kacie. We'll help you with the daylight ring."

Tory was looking at Stefan. "But then you will get the hell out of our house, and you won't come back unless you start being the guy we used to know." Stefan hesitated, nodding, looking defeated. "Come in."

Stefan slowly stepped inside, looking ashamed and defeated.

Lindsey turned around, walking down the hall.

Unknown Street

A man was walking to his car. He slipped his key into the keyhole, looking up at his reflection in the mirror, seeing Ivy standing behind him. He turned to face Ivy, smiling. "You scared me."

"Really?" Ivy asked. "That wasn't scary. But this is." She transformed, biting him on the neck, feeding, looking as if she would kill him. After several moments, she released him, resting her hands on his shoulders, smiling. "I snatched, I ate, now..." She looked him in the eyes, trying to compel him. "Erase."

"Erase what?" the man asked hysterically. "What the hell are you doing to me?"

Ivy let her smile fade. "I--I don't think I did it right." She breathed heavily, looking at the blood on his neck from his wound. "And I'm still hungry. Oh, my God, I am totally going to kill you. Uh..." She attempted to compel him. "You should go. Run. Seriously." The man ran away. Ivy watched him, sighing. "I suck at this."

Prison World

Day - Woods

Damon had dug up the ground, standing in the place he had dug up, attacking the inside of the hole with the ax.

Bonnie and Kacie were sitting on the dirt mound.

"Hey," Bonnie told him. Damon stopped, looking at them. "You know there's a very probable chance you're digging your own grave, and... not bothered?"

Damon ignored Bonnie, returning to attacking the ground with the ax.

Kacie sighed, standing, walking closer, pulling Damon aside. "Get out of the way."

"What the hell do you think your doing?" Damon asked.

Kacie braced herself, using all of the strength she had to stomp on the ground, making it crumble into an opening, breathing heavily. She looked at Damon smugly. "That."

"I could've done that," Damon told her.

Kacie looked at Damon, smirking.

Kai appeared, walking closer with a back pack. "Looks like I got back just in time."

Kai nearly set the back pack down.

Damon rushed forward, grabbing the bag, tearing it open, reading what was inside. "Zima, grunge, every Alex Rodriguez rookie card known to man, and a pager. Really?"

Damon dropped the back pack to the ground.

"555-Hiya-Kai," Kai told them. "No way I'm giving those digits up."

"These are the important supplies you needed to get?" Kacie asked.

Bonnie was watching them suspiciously.

"Look, the future sounds great, all right?" Kai asked. "I'm super excited about the Internet, but 1992 has been my home for most of my life. I'd hate to get homesick. So let's get down there--"

"No," Bonnie told him, standing, walking closer. Damon tried to stop her. Bonnie pushed him out of the way. "We are not going anywhere until you show me the spell."

"Okay," Kai told them, standing still.

"Are we literally not going anywhere?" Kacie asked.

"Fine," Bonnie told him. "You don't want to show me the spell? Then you can do it yourself." Kai smiled suspiciously. "You want my magic." Bonnie held out her arms. "Take it."

"Uh-oh," Kai told them, looking at Damon and Kacie. "She's being brave."

"I'm serious, Kai," Bonnie told him. "This was your big threat, wasn't it? If I don't do the spell and let us out of here, you'll just take my magic, leave me for dead, and do the spell yourself. So go ahead. Take all of it."

Kacie was worried.

Kai looked at Bonnie. "Don't mind if I do."

Kai grabbed Bonnie's shoulders, taking her magic, making her gasp in pain, nearly going limp in his arms.

"Bonnie?" Kacie asked worriedly.

"It's okay," Bonnie told them. "He won't kill me."

"Doesn't look like that from here," Damon told her.

Bonnie groaned in pain. "Ow!"

"Hey!" Kacie told him. "Bonnie." Bonnie's face contorted in pain. "Whoa, hey, guys, stop!"

Kai released Bonnie with a mischievous smile.

Bonnie regained her composure, breathing heavily, catching her breath, realizing something. "He doesn't know the spell. Which means we don't need him." She raised her arm toward Kai. "Motus."

The ax soared through the air, burying itself into Kai's chest.

Kai's eyes widened as he fell to the ground, dead.

"No!" Damon told her. "No! Bonnie!"

There was a moment of silence.

Kacie was impressed, patting Bonnie on the shoulder, being half-sarcastic. "Great work, Bonnie."

Real World

Night - Cristian's House - Study

Cristian was looking through more books at the desk.

Liv was sitting on the other side of it, propping her elbow up on the desk and her chin up on her hand in cute boredom. "Don't you ever get tired of doing that?"

"Doing what, Liv?" Cristian asked.

Liv picked up a book. "This." She picked up another. "This." She let them fall to the desk, picking up two more. "That and that. All of this." She let the books fall to the desk. "Don't you ever get bored of looking through them and trying to find a way to get back home?"

"Extremely," Cristian answered.

"Then take a break," Liv told him in a pleading yet complaining tone. "You took a break to go the swimming hole, you took a break to look for Sarah, and now it's time to take another break, Cristian."

Cristian looked up with a smirk, closing the book. "What kind of break?"

"A distracting break," Liv answered, standing, smiling slyly, sitting on Cristian's lap, kissing him.

Cristian pulled away only slightly, still within inches from her. "That's my favorite kind of distraction."

Liv smiled, taking Cristian's hand, standing, leading him out of the room.

Corn Maze

(Song:) Sun Goes Out - Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes

Luke and Ryan walked through the maze together.

"Where the hell are they?" Luke asked.

Ryan was looking at his phone, at the text from Lindsey. On our way.

"They got held up," Ryan told him.

"By what?" Luke asked. "The mirror?" Ryan smirked. "Those two..."

"Give them some slack, Luke," Ryan told him. "If it wasn't for Tory and Lindsey, I wouldn't even be here."

"True," Luke told him, wrapping an arm around Ryan's shoulders in a brotherly gesture. "Oh, Ryan, what would this world do without Tory and Lindsey?"

"Be dead and gone," Ryan answered.

They chuckled.

Elsewhere

Liam and Elena held drinks, walking through another part of the maze.

"Oh, I think I recognize this scarecrow," Elena told him, pointing at one.

"You said that about... every scarecrow," Liam told her.

"Okay, well, then, we are officially lost," Elena told him.

"Actually, it's two lefts and three rights," Liam told her. "I pulled up a satellite image of this maze before I came."

"Oh," Elena told him. "Competitive type. Got it."

"Question is, am I your type?" Liam asked, smiling.

"Honestly, no," Elena answered. Liam let his smile fade. "But people can change, right?"

"Uh-oh," Liam told her.

"What?" Elena asked.

"You're still hung up on your ex," Liam told her. Elena made a face. "Overly ambitious pre-med student, desperate to become a doctor so she can prove to the guy who dumped her that he messed up big time."

"Actually, he died," Elena told him nonchalantly.

Liam looked guilty instantly. "Or that. I'm--I'm sorry, I thought Stefan was--"

"No," Elena answered. "He was with my sister, but..."

"Yikes," Liam told her.

"Yeah," Elena agreed. "It's okay, it's okay." She took a deep breath. "His name was Damon, but... tonight isn't about him. It's about you and me."

Liam smiled, taking Elena by the hand, leading her away.

Jo was looking around awkwardly.

Lady Whitmore appeared from behind a bean stalk, screaming to scare Jo.

Jo screamed.

Lady Whitmore ran away.

"Not cool!" Jo told her. Alaric walked closer, chuckling. "Oh, Professor Bourbon. Perfect timing."

They smiled at each other.

"I imagine you see a lot worse in the ER," Alaric told her.

"Everything I see there is natural," Jo told him. "Gross, but natural. Zombies, ghosts, the undead... not cool."

"Good to know," Alaric told her, taking an awkward breath. "You haven't seen Eliza are here, have you? She... basically blackmailed me into coming tonight."

"Oh, let me guess," Jo told her. "She told you to get out of the classroom, live a little?" Alaric looked at Jo in confusion, pointing at her as if to ask if Eliza had told her the same thing. "Yeah..."

"We're being set up," Alaric realized. "Okay."

"Now why don't you be a gentleman and get me the hell out of here?" Jo asked. "Because we are way too old for this party, and I need a drink, stat." Alaric pulled his flask from his pocket, offering it to her. Jo smiled in shock, taking it. "I thought you were a germophobe."

"I'll make an exception," Alaric told her.

They walked away together.

Tory's House - Living Room

Tory was sitting on the couch, holding two of the bone necklaces.

Lindsey walked in. "Tory, come on. I already texted Ryan that we were leaving..."

Lindsey stopped when she saw what Tory was holding.

Tory looked at Lindsey. "You know, I completely forgot about these."

Lindsey stepped closer. "So did I. Why do you have them?"

"Because I was thinking about Bonnie," Tory answered. "She has one just like these. These were the things that got us into the whole link mess, remember?" Lindsey nodded. "And now she's dead. Just like Kacie. They're just dead, and we don't know how to bring them back." There was a long moment of silence. Tory sighed, holding up one of the necklaces. "This one was mine. It was for control. Bonnie's was for strength."

Lindsey sighed, taking one of the necklaces. "And mine was for healing. Yeah, I remember."

Tory sighed, tears in her eyes. "I just wish I knew how to bring them back."

Lindsey nodded sadly, sitting next to Tory, neither of them speaking.

On the Road - Tyler's Car

(Song:) Follow Me - Jessarae

Tyler was driving his truck down the road. His phone chimed. He picked it up to read the text from Nicola.

Party's lame. You got 5 minutes until I'm outta here. I could be teaching another newbie vamp rather than this.

Tyler smiled, starting to reply.

(Song Ends)

The man that Ivy had bit ran in front of the car.

Tyler looked up, noticing the man at the last minute, swerving the car to avoid hitting him, but caught him anyway, hitting his head on the steering wheel, losing consciousness.

The truck sped into the cornfield on the side of the road.

Corn Maze

Cristian and Liv were walking together.

Liv laughed. "See, I told you it would be fun."

They smiled, walking around.

Elsewhere

Jeremy and Eliza were walking together.

"So, not only did you call Nicola to meet us here for a setup date with Tyler, but you called her to tell her that we just met her sister?" Jeremy asked.

"Yeah," Eliza answered. "We don't know if she even knows of Sarah's existence or not, and if she doesn't, then she needs to know."

"Yeah, well, Sarah wants to meet her," Jeremy told her. "I had to sneak away just to come here, because she was asking all of these questions that I didn't really have the answers to. And, honestly, it is totally worth it." Eliza turned to face Jeremy, smiling, reaching up onto her toes to kiss him, wrapping her arms around his neck. Jeremy pulled away, smiling, pulling a strand of hair out of her face. "You have no idea how awesome it is to see you like this again."

Eliza smiled. "You have no idea how awesome it feels to be back."

They walked past Alaric and Jo.

Alaric looked at Eliza. "Speak of the devil."

Eliza smiled, pointing at Alaric and Jo.

Jeremy smiled, leading her away from them.

Suddenly, there was a lot of screaming. "Watch it! Hey!"

Jeremy and Eliza looked up to see what was happening, hearing a car swerving.

Tyler's truck smashed right into the corn maze, driving straight through, hurting, injuring people as it went, making them duck or fall out of the way, screaming.

Ditch

Tyler grunted, climbing out of his truck, which had been thrown to the side. He looked around, realizing what had just happened. "Oh, God."

Tyler jumped to the ground, leaning his back against a tree to breathe, pulling out his phone, dialing a number.

There was a choking sound.

Tyler looked around in confusion. He noticed the man Ivy had bit and that he had hit in the road was lying in the dirt, pinned underneath the truck, blood coming from his mouth and nose.

"Help," the man told him weakly.

Tyler looked at him, shocked and scared.

Corn Maze

Luke was on the ground, sitting up, looking around. "Ryan? Ryan!" He turned to see Ryan slowly sitting up in pain. "You're hurt?"

"I'll heal," Ryan told him. He looked around at all of the badly or mildly injured people. "But most of these people won't, Luke." He looked at him. "Not without your help."

Luke stood, sighing. "On it."

Luke held a hand out to Ryan. Ryan took it, letting him help him up.

Elsewhere

Liam was kneeling next to Lady Whitmore, assessing the wound on her stomach, pressing onto it to slow the bleeding, looking toward Elena. "Elena! Elena! Get over here!"

Elena walked closer, kneeling on the other side of the girl. "Oh, God. How--how bad is it?" Liam shook his head negatively. Elena placed her hand over Liam's hands on the wound. "I got this."

"I'm not sure there's anything you can do," Liam admitted.

"I'll do everything that I can," Elena told him. "Just go see if you can help someone else, all right?" Liam looked at the girl, reluctant to leave. "Come on. Go."

Liam walked away.

Elena waited until she was sure that he was gone, biting her wrist, feeding Lady Whitmore her blood to heal her, removing her wrist.

The wound healed.

Elena helped the now-healed Lady Whitmore stand.

Nicola looked around, transforming hungrily at the sight and the smell of all of the blood. She held her hands to her face to hide the red eyes and veins. "No, no, no, no."

Cristian and Liv noticed that Nicola was starting to lose control, pulling her away from all of the injured and bleeding people.

Liv looked at Cristian. "I got this. You go." Cristian nodded, walking away to use his blood to heal anyone that he could. Liv looked at Nicola. "Hey, you're okay. You're okay. I know that we were never really close before, but you helped my sisters, a lot, and now it's my turn to help you. Okay?"

Nicola sighed, nodding, closing her eyes. "Yeah." She felt in control, lowering her hands to her side. "Thank you."

Liv nodded. "Of course."

They saw Cristian, Elena and Luke in the crowd, healing people with vampire blood as they went, careful to make sure no one saw them.

Cristian finished feeding his blood to a victim, compelling him. "Listen to me. You dove out of the way just in time. You were very lucky. Now get out of here and take as many people as you can, okay? Come on."

Nicola's phone rang. Seeing who it was, she immediately answered. "Tyler?"

Tyler was still in the ditch. "I was driving the truck, Nikki."

"What?" Nicola asked.

"This guy ran right in front of me, and he's hurt bad," Tyler told her. "He's pinned under my truck. If he dies, I'm a werewolf all over again, okay? I need you to get here. We're in a ditch. I don't know where, but I need you here now, so please hurry."

"Tyler, you don't understand," Nicola told him. "You drove right through the maze. There are injured people everywhere."

Liv looked around, noticing that Cristian was looking toward them, listening.

"What the hell am I supposed to do?" Tyler asked.

Cristian walked closer.

Nicola put it on speaker.

"Tyler, it's Cristian," Cristian told him. "Just listen. Just hang on. Make sure that you keep him awake. Assess his injuries."

"We go find Jo and Alaric," Liv told them.

Nicola nodded.

Elsewhere

Alaric laid on the ground, rolling over. There was a wooden stick from a broken border protruding from his torso. Alaric pulled it out.

Jo turned toward him. "You're bleeding."

"I'm fine," Alaric told her.

"No, you're not," Jo told him. "Let me see." She lifted his shirt and saw that there was no wound, confused. "Wait. How the hell?"

"I don't think it's my blood," Alaric told her, grabbing Jo's arm.

Jo's arm was scraped, bleeding. "Oh. Okay. That's gonna make things more difficult."

"I really think I should get you out of here," Alaric told her.

"No," Jo told him. "That's not an option." She grabbed a random strip of material, wrapping it around her arm. "You look pale. Does blood make you squeamish?"

"Yeah," Alaric answered. "Something like that."

"Don't worry," Jo told him. "You'll get used to it. Call 911, follow me."

Jo stood, walking away.

Alaric stood to follow. "Okay."

Elsewhere

Eliza laid on the ground, waking up, looking around frantically.

Jeremy helped Eliza stand. "Are you okay?"

Eliza flexed unsteadily. "Yeah. I'm okay. I didn't get hit."

Jeremy took her bleeding, wounded arm. "But that doesn't mean you didn't get hurt."

"I'm okay," Eliza told him. "It doesn't hurt."

Jeremy pulled his jacket off, pulling his shirt over his head. "It's the adrenaline." He used his shirt to make a tourniquet over the wound on Eliza's arm. Eliza inhaled sharply at the pain, but was okay. She looked up at Jeremy, slightly impressed. Jeremy pulled on his jacket, turning to look at Eliza. "That'll help stop the bleeding until we get to the hospital, okay?"

Eliza looked around. "What about everyone else?"

"Cristian, Liv, Elena and Luke have it under control," Jeremy told her. "Let's just get out of here, okay?"

Eliza nodded. "Okay."

Jeremy held Eliza by the shoulders, leading her out of the corn maze to get her taken care of.

Unknown Street

Kaylin was walking through the streets when her phone rang. She answered. "Alex?"

Alex stood on another street with Caroline. "We still haven't found her, Kaylin. Thanks for helping us look."

"Well, Enzo turned her, when I had thought that he had killed her, so I kind of feel responsible," Kaylin told her.

"How is that?" Alex asked.

"I..." Kaylin trailed off. "It doesn't matter."

She heard Stefan's voice. "Yeah, you're right." Kaylin turned to face him. "It doesn't matter, and you are kind of responsible."

Kaylin hung up on Alex, pointing at Stefan. "No. I feel kind of responsible because Enzo dragged me, Nikki and Alex to your house without telling us where the hell we were going. What the hell took you so long?"

"I got caught up," Stefan answered.

"You got caught up doing what?" Kaylin asked.

"Driving halfway out of town," Stefan answered.

Kaylin looked at Stefan incredulously. "You were leaving?"

"I slid Ivy's daylight ring under--" Stefan started.

"No," Kaylin told him.

Stefan went on. "The girls' dorm room door--"

"No, I don't care about some stupid ring, Stefan," Kaylin told him. "Were you seriously about to dump your vampire ex-girlfriend onto your other ex-girlfriend's lap, and then just skip town without so much as a hello or a goodbye to me, you sister, or Nikki, the girl who is literally like a sister to us?" Stefan nodded slightly. Kaylin opened her mouth to speak, appalled, angry and shocked, taking a moment to respond. "God, who are you right now?"

"I'm someone who's trying to start over," Stefan answered. "And then suddenly, you, Nikki and Alex and Enzo show up, and now I have hunters on my trail and a brand new vampire who wants to kill me and everyone else in her path. And that's now how someone starts over, Kaylin."

Kaylin took a moment to look away, taking a few deep breaths to calm down. "Why are you here, Stefan? Why did you come and find me, why now?"

"Because I was wishing that you could help Caroline and Alex deal with Ivy," Stefan answered. "I was thinking you could help Ivy get a handle on things, get somewhere far away from me, live a good life."

Kaylin looked at Stefan skeptically. "Are you asking me to help you with a break up?"

"I'm just asking you to give her a fresh start," Stefan told her.

"You mean give you a fresh start," Kaylin told him. Stefan didn't answer. "Sorry, Stefan. It's not that easy."

"It was that easy when you gave Alaric the green light to make Elena forget about Damon," Stefan told her.

"Well, you forgot him about him first, buddy," Kaylin told him.

"He was my brother," Stefan told her.

"Yeah, and he was mine, too!" Kaylin told him. She shook her head. "That's what you keep forgetting, Stefan. I lost them, too. When Lexi found peace, and when Damon went to God knows where, I lost them, too."

"What do you want me to do about that, Kaylin?" Stefan asked. "Damon and Lexi are dead, and so are Kacie and  Bonnie, and there is nothing we can do. I have seen you create a hundred lives for yourself over the last 148 years, so when I finally decide that I want to, why aren't you?"

"Because there has to be a way to get our brother back, Stefan," Kaylin told him. "Hope for getting Damon back is the only thing that is holding me together right now, because Enzo has gone AWOL, and I don't even have a place to call home right now."

"I don't have that kind of faith," Stefan told her. "Not like you do. Not anymore. Right now, all I want is to get back in my car, and go."

Stefan turned toward his car.

Kaylin looked at Stefan, hurt and angry. "No. No!" Stefan turned toward her. "No, you're just trying to build a lie, Stefan. At least the one thing that I can say about all of the lives that I lived, at least they were fun, at least they were worth living, and at least none of them were lies. Now, if you want to get over this fight, and get over the grief, then I can show you what I have done since I got back here, the thing that kept my home strong, either willingly, or if I have to snap your neck to do so. Or, if not, just say no, and tell me that you never want to see me again, not even in a decade, or ten, or a hundred, and walk back to your car and get the hell out of town and start whatever lie you want to create." Stefan looked slightly guilty, starting to walk toward his car. Kaylin turned after him, snapping his neck, keeping him standing. "You didn't say 'no'." She let his head go, letting his body fall to the sidewalk. "Don't say I didn't warn you."

Another Unknown Street

Alex hung up her phone, looking at Caroline.

"Did she seriously just hang up on you?" Caroline asked.

"She did," Alex answered.

"What the hell are we supposed to do, Alex?" Caroline asked. "There's a psychotic little vampire that wants all of us dead, and--" Her phone started to ring. She answered. "Where are you?"

Ivy was standing on another road. "I did a really bad thing."

"Oh, you mean break my neck?" Caroline asked. "Yeah, I noticed."

"Okay, two bad things," Ivy told her. "Look, I'm sorry--"

"Tell me exactly where you are and stay put," Caroline told her. "Alex and I'll come get you."

Caroline walked forward.

Alex followed her.

Prison World

Day - Woods

Bonnie sat up on top a dirt mound, having the Ascendant in her hand and Grams' grimoire in front of her.

Kacie was leaning against a tree.

Damon was drinking Kai's bottle of Zima. "Mmm." Bonnie and Kacie looked at him. "Mm-mm-mm."

"Can you stop?" Bonnie asked. "Let me concentrate?"

"On the bright side, this stuff's not so bad," Damon told them. "It's fruity and fizzy."

"Damon, I'm working on something," Bonnie told him.

"On the not-so-bright side is your intelligence, because you took the only chance of us getting out of here and turned him into a giant... douche-kebab," Damon told her.

"Think about it, Damon," Bonnie told him. Kacie sighed, taking the bottle of Zima from Damon. "What prison gives an inmate a key?"

"Is that a trick question?" Damon asked. "Or is this stuff actually starting to kick in?"

Kacie took a drink from the bottle.

"I think the Gemini Coven used a Bennett spell to create this place," Bonnie told them. "What if that's why my Grams sent me here?"

"This is the face I make when I don't understand you," Kacie told her, pointing to herself, tilting her head, going cross-eyed, pursing her lips.

"You know the last thing my Grams said to me was to stay strong," Bonnie told them. "And that this necklace will help me connect to Tory and Lindsey. What if that was her way of telling me that I have the power to get out, if I can get their help? I have the Ascendant, a massive celestial event to draw from, the necklace to tap into Tory and Lindsey's power to help me complete this huge spell." She looked at Kacie. "A burning desire to get us home to our friends." She looked at Damon. "And plus a burning desire to get away from you."

Kacie smiled. "Yeah."

Bonnie held up the Ascendant, closing her eyes, holding the pendant of the bone necklace hanging around her neck. "Sangina mearma. Ascendarum cavea."

Night - Tory's House - Living Room

Tory and Lindsey were still on the couch, holding their necklaces. They seemed to feel something from the necklaces.

Lindsey gasped slightly, nearly dropping the necklace. "Did you...?"

"Yeah, I felt that," Tory answered. "What the hell was that?"

Lindsey looked up with a glimmer of hope. "Bonnie."

Prison World

Day - Woods

The claws on the Ascendant pulled free, twisting.

Bonnie looked at Damon and Kacie, standing, getting excited. "That's why Kai couldn't kill me. He needed a Bennett, and I was the only one who had the necklace. I was his only way out of here."

Bonnie turned to the hole in the ground, walking toward it.

"Whoa, where are you going?" Kacie asked.

Bonnie turned to them smugly. "Home. You coming?"

Kacie got excited, looking up at the sun.

The eclipse was almost ready.

Real World

Night - Corn Maze

Jo was tying a tourniquet around a bleeding leg.

Alaric approached her. "Ambulance is on the way."

"Good," Jo told him. Alaric knelt next to her. "Get over here, I need your hands." Jo grabbed Alaric's hands, placing them on the wound. "Put your fingers right there, that should stop the bleeding..." Alaric's face was still, looking at the blood. "While I get a look at the rest of him." Alaric started to transform. "You doing okay?"

Alaric forced the urges back. "Yeah, I'm fine. Wow."

"Just keep your finger on that femoral artery," Jo told him.

"Okay," Alaric told her.

"His pulse is still dropping," Jo told him.

"This isn't your first rodeo?" Alaric asked.

"Enlisted in the army right out of med school," Jo answered. "Family stuff. Just had to get away."

Blood squirted from the wound Alaric was pressing on.

Alaric and Jo jumped back.

Jo continued to hold the wound.

Alaric started to transform again.

Liv and Nicola ran over.

Nicola was still on the phone.

"Dr. Laughlin, my friend Tyler, he's in trouble, and it sounds really bad, and... we don't know where he is," Nicola told her.

"Call me Jo," Jo told her. "Put him on speaker."

"Okay," Nicola told her, putting it on speaker.

"Tyler, can you hear me?" Jo asked.

Tyler was still alone in the ditch with the injured man. "I--I don't know what to do. I think he's losing consciousness."

"I need you to answer my questions as accurately as you can," Jo told him. "Is there blood?"

"Tons," Tyler answered.

"Is it still flowing?" Jo asked. "Is he bleeding now?"

"No," Tyler answered. "No. I... it looks like it stopped."

"Is there any coming out of his nose, or his mouth?" Jo asked.

"Yes," Tyler answered.

"What color is it?" Jo asked. "Is it red, or is it black?"

"It's black," Tyler answered. "It's really freaking black. What do I do?"

"Take his hand," Jo told him.

Tyler reluctantly did as told. "Now what?"

"Just try and keep him comfortable," Jo told him. "Won't be long now."

Nicola shook her head in denial, turning away, hanging up, starting to walk away.

Liv followed her. "Nicola." Nicola turned to face Liv. "Even if you get there before he dies, it's too late. Vampire blood won't save him before he..."

"I have to do something," Nicola told her. "Stay here, Liv, make sure no one dies. You, Elena, Cristian and Luke save as many of them as you can."

Liv nodded.

Nicola turned around, making sure no one was watching her, rushing away.

The sky above was still darkening from the eclipse.

Kacie was sitting on a rock.

Damon was nearby.

Bonnie was standing directly under the hole and the eclipse, in the circle of light.

Kacie drank the rest of the bottle.

Bonnie used the Ascendant to cut into her wrist, letting the blood drip onto it. "Okay."

Night - Tory's House - Living Room

Lindsey and Tory were talking.

Tory was pacing now. "But how is Bonnie alive? And if she is, then where the hell is she? And how can she send us a message?"

"Think about it," Lindsey told her. "We have these necklaces. We haven't been able to find Bonnie's necklace. It must be, like, an anchor to this world so that she can get back. And if Bonnie's alive, doesn't it make sense that..."

Tory looked at Lindsey hopefully. "Damon and Kacie are, too."

Lindsey nodded, smiling slightly. "Yeah."

Feeling the surge of power pushing through the necklaces into theirs again, they both looked down at the necklaces in their hands.

"What does it mean?" Tory asked.

"Bonnie needs help with a powerful spell," Lindsey answered.

Tory looked at her in confusion. "What kind of--"

Bonnie looked at Kacie and Damon as they watched. She breathed heavily, looking up at the blue eclipse light, closing her eyes. "Sangina mearma. Ascendarum cavea. Sangina mearma. Ascendarum cavea. Sagina mearma. Ascendarum cavea."

Real World

Night - Tory's House - Living Room

Their necklaces pulsed.

Lindsey and Tory both started to chant. "Sangina mearma. Ascendarum cavea." Lindsey took Tory's hand, both of them still holding the necklaces in their others. "Sangina mearma. Ascendarum cavea. Sangina mearma. Ascendarum cavea."

Day - Underground Tunnels

The claws of the Ascendant twisted free.

Damon, Bonnie and Kacie looked at each other hopefully.

"It's time," Bonnie told them.

Damon walked closer. "All right." Kacie set the bottle down, standing, walking closer. "Let's get awkward."

They smiled, excited to be going home.

Kacie placed her hands under Bonnie's. "Like this?"

"Yep," Bonnie answered.

Damon placed his hands under Kacie's, looking between them. "I'm sure there are about a billion people you'd rather be with..."

Kacie smiled, shaking her head. "Not exactly."

Bonnie and Damon smiled.

"Let's go ho--" Bonnie started.

An arrow zipped between Damon and Kacie, catching Bonnie in her stomach, forcing her back several feet, making her scream.

The Ascendant fell with Bonnie.

Surprised, Damon and Kacie turned around.

Kai was standing with a crossbow aimed at them. "Forgetting someone?"

Damon and Kacie looked at him incredulously, confused on how he was alive.

Lindsey and Tory felt the connection break.

"Okay," Tory told her in confusion. "What just happened?"

Lindsey shook her head in confusion. "I have no idea."

Prison World

Day - Underground Tunnels

Kai, Damon and Kacie faced off.

Bonnie was on the ground with the arrow in her stomach.

"Did you really think I hadn't tried to kill myself before?" Kai asked. Kacie looked at Bonnie. Bonnie groaned desperately in pain. "Because I have." Kai reloaded his crossbow. "Lots of times, lots of ways." He aimed the crossbow at Damon. Kacie looked at the Ascendant. Kai looked at Kacie, aiming the crossbow at Damon. "Grab that and the next arrow goes in his heart. Your choice."

Bonnie groaned in pain.

Kacie glared at Kai, but rushed over to Bonnie, holding her. "Okay, I got you." She pulled the arrow out, making her groan. She bit her wrist, ready to heal her. Kai ran toward the Ascendant. "Damon, no!"

Damon rushed toward Kai, pushing him against the wall, struggling with each other.

Kai dropped the Ascendant.

Kacie fed Bonnie her blood, healing her, looking at the Ascendant.

Kai stabbed Damon with the arrow, making him fall.

Damon tried to pull the arrow out.

Night - Corn Maze - Ditch

Tyler was roughly slamming his hands into the man's chest, trying to save him. "Come on, man. Please, you gotta live. Come on, buddy. Come on. Come on, man. You can't die."

The truck above them was suddenly pushed away.

Tyler turned toward Nicola in surprise.

Nicola let the truck roll away, jumping down into the ditch kneeling next to the man.

"What are you doing?" Tyler asked. "Nicola, even if you give him blood, it's too late. He'll still die. Even if he turns into a vampire, I still killed him. I'll still turn. And right now, with the new vampire hunter, we can't risk another newborn. There's nothing you can do. I killed him."

"No, you didn't," Nicola told him.

"Yes, I did, Nikki," Tyler told her. "Everything we've tried to do to keep me from this, and all it took was one guy running out into the road." Nicola closed her eyes, covering the man's nose and mouth to keep him from breathing. The man struggled to breathe. "What are you doing, Nicola? Nikki, stop! What the hell are you doing?"

Nicola opened her eyes, tears in her eyes, holding tightly, watching as the light left the man's eyes.

He was dead.

Nicola slowly took her hands away from the man.

Tyler looked at Nicola in shock.

"You didn't kill him, Tyler," Nicola told him. She looked at Tyler sadly. "I did."

Nicola stood, rushing away, leaving.

Tyler looked after her in shock.

Corn Maze

Luke saw a man with a lethal wound, kneeling next to him, biting his wrist, feeding him his blood to heal him, beginning to compel him.  "You weren't hit. You didn't get hurt. Now get out of here and take as man people as you can, okay? Come on."

Luke helped him stand.

Elsewhere

Liv found Cristian kneeling next to a girl.

The girl was gasping for breath.

"Cristian," Liv told him. "The ambulances arrived. Jo said to let the paramedics take it from here."

"She can't wait, Liv," Cristian told her. "Her windpipe is..."

Liv knelt next to them, putting two fingers to the girl's throat. "'Screwed' is more like it."

Liv bit her wrist, feeding her blood to the girl to heal her.

Liv and Cristian looked at each other, happy that they were able to help save these people.

Later

The corn field was full of ambulances and paramedics.

Luke and Ryan watched from the sidelines.

Elena got into the car.

Liam was ready to get into the other side, looking around for a moment, noticing Lady Whitmore leading a group of people to the exit.

Lady Whitmore wasn't wounded anymore, smiling, walking perfectly.

Liam was more than confused.

Ryan watched the group of people leave. "Luke, you healed all those people?"

"With the help of Elena, Liv and Cristian," Luke answered. "I call that a good day of work. Let's get out of here."

Luke turned around, getting into the car.

Ryan smirked, shaking his head, turning to the car, getting inside.

Prison World

Day - Underground Tunnels

Kai and Damon were still fighting.

The eclipse was directly over head.

Kacie waited until Bonnie was healed until she crawled toward the Ascendant, picking it up.

Kai twisted the arrow in Damon.

"Bonnie, Kacie..." Damon trailed off. "Get out of here."

Kai pulled the arrow out of Damon, reaching for Bonnie to siphon some of her magic.

"I'm not leaving without you," Kacie told him.

Kai raised the arrow to stake Damon in the heart.

Kacie rushed toward them, forcing the Ascendant into Damon's hands, pushing him into the light.

"Don't!" Kai told her, shooting an arrow into Kacie's back, but when that didn't stop Kacie, he used the magic that he siphoned from Bonnie to give Kacie a massive pain infliction spell.

Kacie held her head in agony, groaning in pain, falling a few feet away from Bonnie.

The Ascendant untwisted, clicking in Damon's hands.

"No," Damon told them. The Ascendant twisted once more with a definite twist. Damon looked at Bonnie and Kacie. "No!"

Damon was brought up into the light. With a bright flash, he was gone.

The only thing left was the Ascendant, falling to the ground, shattering.

Kai screamed in fury.

Bonnie smiled, knowing Damon made it, crying, lowering her head to the ground, looking toward Kacie.

Kai kicked Kacie in the side, making her roll onto her back, still giving her the pain infliction spell so that she couldn't fight back.

The arrow was forced further into her back, making Kacie breathe heavily in pain, glaring up at Kai.

Kai furiously raised the ax above Kacie's head, lowering it with a yell of rage.

Bonnie watched in horror. "Kacie!"

Real World

Night - Whitmore College - Medical Center

Jo was sitting up in a chair in the hall. Her arm was wrapped with gauze.

Alaric approached her with a coffee, handing it to her. "How you feeling?"

"You really want to know?" Jo asked. "Because I'm hopped up on pain meds and just obnoxious enough to tell you."

"I'll take my chances," Alaric told her.

"I think you're great," Jo told him. "You're brave, funny, not to mention maybe the most attractive man I've ever seen, and I feel completely comfortable telling you this, because I'm old enough to know what I want. And call me crazy, but I think I was meant to know you." She waited for a response. "This is the part where you say something, or kiss me, or run for the hills."

"Yeah, I, um..." Alaric trailed off. "I think you're amazing, brilliant, and one of the sexiest women I have ever met, and I would love to believe that you and I were meant to be, because I would love to believe there was a plan for me other than the life that I am living right now." He compelled Jo. "But tonight was a disaster. You thought I was boring, and a borderline alcoholic, and because you don't know me, not the real me, anyway, you don't want to kiss me, and you absolutely want me to run for the hills."

Jo blinked, taking a breath. "You're right. Tonight was a literal disaster, and you're definitely an alcoholic." She leaned closer, kissing Alaric softly, pulling away. "But you're far from boring, Ric."

Jo stood, walking away, leaving.

Alaric blinked, confusion.

The compulsion hadn't worked.

Unknown Street

Ivy was standing in the road, on the phone, blood on the dress she had taken from the dorm. "Where are you guys? I have been standing here for a hundred years."

Caroline's voice was on the other line. "Don't exaggerate. We're almost there."

Ivy hung up.

A car pulled closer.

Ivy waved her arms for a ride.

Tripp was in the car. "Need any help?" Ivy let her smile fade, turning away. Tripp got out of the car. "I heard about the, uh, big campus accident on my scanner. Sounds like some people got hurt or something."

"I'm fine," Ivy told him.

"Actually, you're bleeding," Tripp told her. "You might be in shock."

"Please, just go," Ivy told him.

"I don't think--" Tripp started.

Ivy turned toward Tripp, transforming, rushing forward to bite him.

Tripp held a tranquilizer gun, shooting Ivy twice in her chest. Ivy fell unconscious into his arms. Tripp drug her toward his car, dumping her inside.

Alex and Caroline witnessed the whole thing from their car, in shock and horror, exchanging a look, looking toward the scene.

Whitmore College - Dorm Building

Elena and Liam were walking toward her dorm.

"So that girl dressed like Lady Whitmore," Liam told her. "I was ready to give up on her, and you were able to save her. How?"

"I don't know," Elena told him. "Beginner's luck?"

"She should have died," Luke told her.

"And she didn't," Elena told him. "There are crazy, mysterious things in the world. I mean, some things science can't explain."

"Name one," Liam told her.

"Okay," Elena told him. "Um... Why does a baby take its first breath?"

"A reflex," Liam answered. "The fluid in a newborn's lungs are--" Elena turned to face him, silencing him with a kiss. After a moment, Liam pulled away. "I thought kissing me was a fate worse than death."

"You asked me what my type is," Elena told him. "You were a hero tonight. An absolutely jaw-dropping and out-of-this-world hero." She smiled. "That's my type."

They smiled.

Night - Unknown Street

(Song:) Wait - M83

Nicola had tears in her eyes, leaning against the brick building next to her.

Tyler walked closer.

"I don't wanna talk," Nicola told him.

"I talked to Luke," Tyler told her.

"Still don't wanna talk," Nicola told him.

"Luke said everyone else lived," Tyler told her, slowly stepping closer. "You don't want to talk about what happened?"

"I've got nothing to say," Nicola told him.

"You killed someone tonight," Tyler told her. "You did the one thing that you tried not to do your whole life, the one thing that I've been trying to help you stay away from. You can't just pretend that didn't happen, after all we've done to keep you from it."

"I'm a vampire, Tyler," Nicola told him. "We're a predatory species that hunt, feed and kill. And no matter how much I try to be, I am no different from the others. So watch me."

Nicola started to turn away, beginning to cry.

Tyler caught Nicola by the wrist. "You are different from the others. You barely use your powers. You don't feed from the living, and you don't hunt anything. And before tonight, you had never taken a human life. Nikki." Nicola didn't answer. Tyler turned her to face him, but she still didn't look at him. "Nikki." He placed his hands on either of her cheeks, making her look at him. "He was dead. There was nothing you could have done to save him, so you saved me instead. You. Saved. Me."

"You've been saving me from myself since I turned," Nicola told him. "And after what happened to Kacie... I told you I'd find a way to repay you, and I did. But I just can't talk about it. Not with you."

Nicola took his hands away, pulling away.

"I know," Tyler told her. He looked behind her. "That's why I called them."

Nicola turned to follow his gaze in confusion.

Stefan and Kaylin were standing there.

Nicola looked at Stefan in slight shock, but not much. She looked numb more than anything.

"I am so sorry," Stefan told her. "About everything." Nicola started to cry. "Nikki..."

Nicola walked toward Stefan and Kaylin, wrapping her arms around either of them. They wrapped their arms around her.

Tyler watched them sadly.

Stefan looked at Tyler, nodding, mouthing the words. 'Thank you.'

Tyler nodded, turning around, walking away.

Nicola sniffled, standing there like that for a moment.

Kaylin pulled away, looking at Nicola. "I need you to come with me." She gave Stefan a look. "Both of you."

Nicola looked at her in confusion. "Where?"

------

Mystic Falls Cemetery - Salvatore Mausoleum

Kaylin opened the gate, leading the way inside, a bottle of bourbon in her hand, taking a drink.

Stefan and Nicola walked in.

Nicola looked at her distant uncle. "What are you doing here, Stefan?"

"Uh, Kaylin snapped my neck," Stefan answered.

"Don't say I didn't warn you," Kaylin told him, taking a drink. "And you also didn't say that you never wanted to see us again, so I'm taking that as a sign that you wanted me to snap your neck."

Stefan took the bottle from Kaylin, looking at Nicola. "Then, when I woke up, she told me about what you did."

Stefan took a drink.

"Okay, then, are we seriously doing this?" Nicola asked, taking the bottle.

"Yeah, we are seriously doing this," Kaylin answered. "This is happening." She looked at Stefan. "You broke a promise to the two of us, and you abandoned us." She looked at Nicola. "And you need to talk about what happened tonight before it drives you crazy."

Nicola looked around the crypt. "So we're gonna talk about what we did to a... a crypt filled with our dead family?"

"Everyone but Damon," Kaylin answered. "Because wherever he is, it's not here." She looked at Stefan. "I know you wanna talk." She looked at Nicola. "I know you wanna talk about it, just not to Tyler. So now you can talk to us. I came here the first day that I started to lose hope. And guess what? It made me think about all of the good that Damon had done for us, and all of the bad, and I realized that having the good in our evil brother back was worth more than anything I could have hoped for. It renewed my hope. Let's hope that it renews both of yours, too." She looked at Nicola. "And let's hope it gives you a sense of closure about not feeling guilty about what you did."

"I don't wanna talk about it, to anybody," Nicola told them, sitting down, taking a drink from the bottle, looking at her phone in her hand.

"Talk, both of you," Kaylin told them.

Stefan hesitated, nodding. "All right. Well, I gotta say, I'm not doing so great without you." He looked from Kaylin to Nicola. "Without either of you. I keep trying to start over, but... I can't get anywhere. Because I'm lost."

"And when you did, Stefan, it felt like you just left me to do this by myself," Nicola told him. "And I tell Kay to go find a way to bring them back, until I find out that you've had Tyler watch out for me since you left without so much as a goodbye. And he's been the one to keep me from falling off the edge, from turning it off. And then tonight, when he nearly triggered his werewolf curse all over again, I did the one thing that I never wanted to do, to save him. To repay him, for what he did for me, and because I felt guilty about what happened to Kacie. I killed him." She held her phone in a too tight grip, making it break in her grasp, drawing blood, but she didn't react to the pain. "But the only thing that I feel is... broken. I'm broken."

Nicola stood angrily despaired, throwing the bottle of bourbon toward the far wall.

A hand caught the bottle.

Stefan and Nicola's eyes widened.

Kaylin stood in shock and disbelief.

Damon looked at Nicola. "So what? I'm gone a couple of months, Stefan abandons you, you tell Kaylin to leave even while you're still learning, you made your first kill tonight, and you think it's okay to break your phone and waste a perfectly good bottle of bourbon? And Tyler Lockwood? Seriously?" He took a drink, raising the bottle toward his sister. "Oh, and, Kaylin, that was a beautiful speech. Very heartfelt. I loved it."

Kaylin, Stefan and Nicola looked at him in shock, not quite believing what was happening.

"Damon?" Kaylin asked hopefully.

"Yep," Damon answered. "In the flesh."

Damon smiled.

"How are we seeing you right now?" Nicola asked.

Damon became serious. "Because I'm not dead, Nikki. I mean, this stuff's good, but it's not 'I see dead people' good." He chuckled, slowly stepped closer. Stefan still couldn't believe it. Kaylin was slowly accepting it, tears in her eyes. "It's a hell of a long story, but... I'm back. I'm back." Nicola slowly reached out to touch Damon's shoulder to make sure he was really there. "Yeah." Kaylin looked as if she was about to cry, pulling all of them into a tight embrace. Damon wrapped his arms around them. "I'm back."

Nicola started to cry in relief, wrapping her arms around them.

Stefan wrapped his arms around them, closing his eyes in relief, repressing emotion.

From 6.06 "The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get", outside of Mystic Falls, Tory, Lindsey, Liv, Alex, Elena, Caroline and Eliza were standing together.

Tripp's van crashed into the car, flipping it over, flying through the car, crashing over the Mystic Falls sign, landing upside down. Alaric was thrown off the vehicle, groaning, landing on the ground within Mystic Falls.

Stefan, Kaylin and Cristian stood next to each other, overlooking the scene in shock and terror. Stefan's phone was still in hand.
