chapter 16 - Save My Soul

Outfits in the external link

From 2.12 "Sanctuary", in the courtyard, Rebekah walked toward Kassandra.

Caitlin: (voice over) "Previously on Worlds Colliding (The Originals)"

"Hello, Sandra," Rebekah told her.

Kassandra smiled a small, relieved smile in realization. "Rebekah."

From 2.15 "They All Asked For You", in the Quarter, Eva had a knife in her hand, quickly using it to slit the throat of the young boy, killing him.

Eva started to carve a sacrificial magic sigil into the girl's forehead.

Ruben: (voice over from 2.15 They All Asked For You) "A witch named Eva Sinclair was stealing children to channel their power."

From 2.15 "They All Asked For You", in Noah's Loft, Caitlin and Noah were sitting on the couch.

"Noah, it doesn't matter what she's done," Caitlin told him. "Rebekah still appropriated her body without her consent."

"We want you to be somewhere safe," Noah told her. "Somewhere that we can put in your name and keep it safe for you, allowing no vampires but the ones that you invite in inside."

Caitlin looked at him curiously, knowing where this was going. "Are you asking me to move in with you?"

From 2.15 "They All Asked For You", in the tavern, Aiden and Klaus were sitting at the bar.

"The wolves need a new leader," Klaus told him. "I can help you become the leader your pack deserves."

From 2.15 "They All Asked For You", in the LaRue Mansion, Marcel, Caitlin, Auria and Josephine were talking.

Auria stepped closer to Josephine. "I will do anything to set things right between us."

"The Treme Coven wants Vincent Griffith returned," Josephine told them.

From 2.15 "They All Asked For You", in the cemetery, Auria used her fingers to lift the blue pendant on the soul catcher toward Vincent/Finn, casting the spell. The pendant started to glow bright blue. Vincent/Finn started to scream in agony as his body healed.

Finn's soul leaked out of Vincent's body into the pendant.

Auria lowered her hand to her side.

Vincent sat up in shock, looking at them in horror. "What's happening?"

From 2.15 "They All Asked For You", in Noah's guest bedroom, Vincent was lying unconscious in one of the rooms.

Two vampires were guarding him.

Noah: (voice over from 2.15 They All Asked For You) "Vincent Griffith is alive and free of Finn's influence."

From 2.15 "They All Asked For You", in the cemetery, Klaus, Kassandra, Elijah and Freya were talking.

"If I have woken from my slumber, then Dahlia has, as well," Freya told them. She looked at Klaus. "Once she's sensed your child's magic, she will come for her."

Kingdom of Norway, 977 AD

Night - Cottage

Young Freya was sitting on the floor nervously.

Dahlia was making food, walking toward her, setting the bowl on the floor in front of her niece. "Eat, Freya, or you'll waste away." She turned away. She looked at Young Freya to see she didn't move, kneeling in front of Young Freya in frustration. "Stubborn child. You need your strength so that I may teach you to use the power that runs strong in our bloodline. It will keep us warm in the cold, give us good health when others fall ill. With that power, we will defeat our enemies. We can stay young, and beautiful. You need not be afraid. Together... we will be the strongest witches this world has ever seen."

"I want my mommy," Young Freya told her.

"Your mother didn't want you," Dahlia told her. "She gave you away. This is your home now. I am your only family." She held Young Freya's chin. "And there is no greater strength than family."

Now

Day One

Morning - St. Louis Cathedral - Bell Tower

Freya picked up a fancy card with the Mikaelson "M" embossed on the front from the table.

Inside the card, in perfect calligraphy, a note read:

Join us for a Family Brunch.

11 AM

Your sister,

Kassandra

Freya re-read the card, smiling in excitement.

Marcel's Loft

Caitlin and Noah had returned to Marcel's Loft to pack Caitlin's things to move to Noah's Loft.

Marcel and Auria were standing nearby.

"So, Caitlin, you're agreeing to go to Noah's loft to where you can sign your name on a deed and lock out any potential vampire that may be a threat to you," Auria told her.

Caitlin nodded. "Hell, yeah. I don't wanna keep getting kidnapped. But, just so you know, a deed's not gonna keep out a witch."

Marcel looked out of the window. "Yeah, we know. Stay here. Noah and I'll handle what's going on outside."

"Handle it?" Caitlin asked. "Handle what?"

Marcel and Noah walked outside.

Caitlin and Auria followed.

--

Outside

A sizable group of people had begun congregating around.

Some of them were vampires who had made a barrier with their bodies to protect the entrance to the loft, while others were witches, including Josephine, all of whom were in various stages of anger.

"Whatever the problem is, if you don't back up, I guarantee you it's gonna get worse," Noah told them.

Josephine looked behind them. "Auria Rayvnne. Are we already in violation of our agreement?"

Caitlin and Auria walked closer.

Marcel turned to face them in frustration. "I thought I told you to stay put."

"Well, we hate being told what to do, so we ignored you," Caitlin told him.

Auria looked at Josephine. "What are you talking about?"

"This is retaliation for the evil that was unleashed last night," Josephine told them. Caitlin, Auria, Noah and Marcel looked at them in confusion. "Two of our children attacked unmercifully. One dead, the other missing. All signs lead to Eva Sinclair. Now, we haven't the slightest idea where Eva is, but we do know that our last connection to her are the four of you. Where is she?"

"The witch that you knew as Eva Sinclair is gone," Noah told them. "Her body was taken over by Rebekah Mikaelson."

"It would be a great shame to soil the goodwill of our recent agreement, but these are new circumstances," Josephine told them.

"I am sorry for your loss," Caitlin told them. "But Noah is telling the truth."

"Now, you have my word, I will find whoever is responsible and make certain that justice is served," Auria told them.

Marcel looked at all of the witches. "But, now, I would like to ask you all to leave."

"You have till tomorrow," Josephine told them. "After that, it won't matter what I say. Witches will stop at nothing to protect their children."

The witches walked away, leaving.

Caitlin, Auria, Marcel and Noah looked at each other in concern.

Abattoir Compound - Courtyard

Elijah walked into the courtyard to join Klaus and Kassandra.

"There you are," Kassandra told him. "Finally. Our guest of honor will be here momentarily."

"Strange," Elijah told them. "The house is conspicuously absent of our lupine guests. I do hope it wasn't on my account."

"I sent Hayley, Jackson and Mikayla off to spend the day with their werewolf brethren to test the limits of their new abilities," Kassandra told them. "Leaving me to deal with family business as I see fit."

"Kassandra, Rebekah's situation has taken a turn," Elijah told her. "We may need Freya's assistance, so whatever you're planning here, don't."

Kassandra smiled innocently. "All I'm planning is a simple chat with a long-lost relative. You yourself said to hear her out. And while Nik himself said that would be idiocy, I chose to ignore him, because I hate to be told what to do, as you both well know."

"Well, that does sound like you, Sandra," Klaus told her.

Kassandra smirked. "On the off-chance Freya has some information that could protect Hope, I prefer we know what exactly she is planning to do before we agree to work on the same team. So, I invited her for breakfast."

Klaus gestured to Kassandra's black cut out, lace short maxi dress. "And that's why you're dressing like it's a dinner party?"

Kassandra smiled. "We should dress well for our family reunions. Ah, I think I hear her now." She turned to see Freya walk in. "Sister. Well, come in, come in. Make yourself comfortable."

Freya smiled a small smile.

Noah's Loft - Guest Bedroom

Vincent was sitting on the bed, leaning his elbows against his knees, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his thumbs as if he had a headache.

Noah walked in with a newspaper. "Morning. How you feeling?"

Vincent groaned. "Nauseous. Can't concentrate." He sighed. "Can't really do any magic. But, I suppose that was the point." He picked up something off the plate on the nightstand next to him. "Seeing as I can smell lobilia flower you've been putting in my food, man."

Noah smirked. "Can't be too careful with witches, hmm?"

Vincent nodded. "Hmm. That something you learned from experience, Noah Dumaine? Back when you and Marcel Gerard controlled the Quarter witches with all your rules, and, uh..." He clicked his tongue, miming as if he was slitting his throat with his finger. "Public executions?"

Noah shrugged. "You know who I am." He put a chair in front of the bed, sitting down. "That's good, 'cause I got some questions that need answers, and you seem to know what happens to people who don't give me what I want."

"I know you don't control anything around here no more," Vincent told him. "And I know you can't keep me here. I'm from the Treme, Noah. Witches from there? They're a little bit of a harder breed than what it is you're used to. Yeah, they're gonna want me back."

Noah nodded. "Actually, they already do want you back. Yeah, a matter of fact..." He stood, pulling out the newspaper, lying it down on the nightstand next to Vincent. "They've wanted you back for nine months." Vincent was in shock, looking at the newspaper, looking at Noah in disbelief. "Yeah, check the date." Vincent picked up the newspaper. "You might notice a little time gap."

Vincent was appalled and horrified. "Man, what'd you do to me?"

"Oh, me?" Noah asked. "I can't make nine months vanish. No, your beef is with a guy named Finn. See, he took possession of your body. Got into all kinds of trouble, too. Made some nasty enemies, I might add."

Vincent was overwhelmed and worried. "Whoa."

Vincent held up his hands, clearly struggling to believe what he was hearing, gaping from the newspaper to Noah anxiously while he processed this revelation.

"Look, I'll tell you all about it," Noah told him. "But first, you gotta tell me about a Treme witch that you might know. Eva Sinclair." Vincent looked at Noah, shaking his head in exasperation. "Sore subject?"

Vincent smiled patronizingly. "Mm-hmm." He clenched his jaw. "I'm done talking."

Lafayette Cemetery - Kol's Playhouse

Eva/Rebekah had come to Kol's old playhouse to seek Davina's help regarding her vessel.

Davina looked exhausted, shuffling through various books and loose pages of spells and magical notes, looking at Eva/Rebekah in annoyance. "Are you serious? I'm supposed to drop all of my work to help you figure out your nightmares?"

"Look, they're more than dreams," Eva/Rebekah told her. "I came here hoping you'd have some witchy way to figure out what's wrong and help me fix it." She looked at Davina in concern. "Though you don't look too good yourself. Have you gotten any sleep lately?"

"No," Davina answered angrily, gesturing around at all of the magical books and supplies. "I've been here, studying all this stuff since Kol died, and I thought that you were going to help me bring him back like you promised."

Eva/Rebekah looked at her in guilt. "Look, I can't help Kol if the witch he stuck me in ends up taking me over. There's something wrong. I think the rightful owner of this body is waking up inside me, and she's angry."

Davina sighed in frustration, but eventually warming up to Rebekah, gesturing to the books, speaking more kindly. "These are Kol's spell books. I'm sure there's something in here that can help."

Eva/Rebekah looked slightly reassured, smiling.

Davina weakly smiled in return.

Abattoir Compound - Dining Room

Kassandra, Klaus, Elijah and Freya were talking.

Freya was looking at a witch object. "This witch hoop, it's Danish. Is if from when you all lived in Copenhagen?"

"Quite the eye," Kassandra told her.

"Forgive me," Klaus told them. "Are we here to discuss family heirlooms, or we do have more pressing concerns?"

Kassandra looked at Freya. "Please excuse my brothers' lack of decorum. They've both been in a foul mood of late. But Nik is right. I did ask you here in the hopes that you would share some of Dahlia's secrets. So, without further ado, let's get to it."

They sat at the table.

"The first thing you should know is that Dahlia is the most powerful witch I have ever seen," Freya told them. "And she craves more power still. Right now, she is like me. Limited to one year of life in a century. She wants to be free of that restriction to gain true immortality." She looked at Klaus. "And that is why she will come here, drawn by your daughter, to take the child's power for herself. And she will kill anyone who would defy her."

"And yet you would defy her," Elijah told her.

"I don't have a choice," Freya told them. "She will never let me be free. My one chance is to align with you and kill her."

"Well, now that we'e all suitably motivated, let's talk specifics," Klaus told her.

"For you to understand, I need to start from the beginning," Freya told them.

Kassandra nodded.

Flashback

Kingdom of Norway, 977 AD

Night - Woods

Young Freya and Dahlia stood inside of circle of five torches.

Young Freya watched Dahlia create a spell.

Freya: (voice over) "After taking me from my family, Dahlia used me to forge a new brand of connective magic. One that augmented my power even as it allowed her to draw from me."

Dahlia knelt in front of Young Freya. "Take my hand and begin your chants."

They both started chanting. "Med dette seglet, cum soluta nobis saman. Med dette seglet, cum soluta nobis saman." Wind started to blow around them. "Med dette seglet, cum soluta nobis saman." The flames on the torches burned higher and brighter. "Med dette seglet, cum soluta nobis saman."

Dahlia started to hum a soft tune, looking around.

Freya: (voice over) "Once we were bonded, Dahlia became unstoppable. She wasted no time proving her might."

--

Day - Village

Snow surrounded the town.

Bodies were lying on the ground over the snow, everywhere.

Young Freya and Dahlia were walking along.

Freya: (voice over) "The chief of a nearby village threatened to run us off, accusing Dahlia of witchcraft. She decided to make an example out of the entire encampment. Men, women, children."

--

Now

Day - Abattoir Compound - Dining Room

Klaus, Kassandra, Elijah and Freya sat at the table.

Freya gazed off expressionlessly. "She killed them all with a wave of her hand. That was my first inkling of the power that Dahlia had. Over the course of a thousand years, she's only grown stronger." She looked at Klaus. "And she will bring all her power to bear against you when she comes for your child."

Klaus didn't answer.

Elijah's phone rang. He pulled it out of his suit jacket. "Excuse me." He stood, stepping away, answering the phone. "Rebekah, how are you feeling?"

Eva/Rebekah was walking through the cemetery. "As if I walked straight into a brick wall. Any luck with Freya?"

"Luck is not the word that I would use," Elijah told her. "You should be here."

"Fine," Eva/Rebekah told him. "I'm on my way now."

Elijah hung up.

--

Lafayette Cemetery

Eva/Rebekah hung up. She was suddenly overcome by a wave of pain as Eva fought to get control of her body again. She saw visions of Eva carving the sacrificial channeling sigil into the foreheads of various children and teenagers. She leaned against a tomb's wall for support, waiting for it to pass, trying to leave, only to double over from the force of the next pulse of resistance from Eva. She fell to the brick walkway, hitting her head so hard on the ground that she fell unconscious.

Bayou

The wolves were in the bayou.

Mikayla and Hayley walked out onto the porch of their old shack with cups of coffee in hand, watching the wolves practice sparring in the nearby clearing.

Jackson and Aiden were sparring, learning to fight with their new abilities. Aiden tried to punch him. Jackson blocked the move. Aiden tried to elbow him in the face. Jackson caught his arm.

Jackson laughed proudly. "You're getting faster."

"Maybe you're just getting slower, huh?" Aiden asked.

Aiden punched Jackson in the chest, making him back away. They circled around each other. Aiden tried to punch him. Jackson ducked to the side, kneeing Aiden in the stomach. Aiden elbowed Jackson in the back, trying to backhand punch him. Jackson caught his arm, flipping him to the ground.

"Keep your head up," Jackson told him. "Low center. Guard your face." Aiden stood angrily, pushing Jackson back, punching him in the face, trying to do it again. Jackson caught his arm, twisting it behind his back, putting him in a chokehold from behind. Aiden let his eyes glow gold, biting Jackson on the arm, making him groan in pain and let go, stepping away, turning to face him. Hayley and Mikayla watched in concern. "What the hell?"

"You left yourself wide open," Aiden told him, frustrated.

"It was your idea to come out here and spar," Jackson told him. "I'm doing this for you."

Aiden rolled his eyes. "Oh, for me? You're the one leading a pack of super-wolves. How long before they decide they don't want to take orders from you anymore, huh?" He walked closer to Jackson, in his face. "Because the only way you can stay the Alpha is by always being the strongest."

Jackson pushed past him.

"You guys done?" Hayley asked, unimpressed. "This macho-stuff is cute and all, but don't make me come out there and kick both your asses."

Hayley and Mikayla both took a drink of coffee.

Jackson chuckled, turning to face Aiden. "Look, if you got a problem with the way I lead, now's the time to speak up."

"Klaus is acting like we're on his leash," Aiden told him. "You think the guys don't see that? Things are changing, Jackson. Our people aren't cursed anymore. We're strong. If any of them see you as vulnerable, they're going to challenge you for Alpha, because that is what wolves do."

"Are you putting yourself in that category?" Jackson asked.

"I'm looking out for you," Aiden told him. "That's all."

Aiden pushed past Jackson, walking away.

Hayley and Mikayla exchanged a look.

Jackson looked as if he was worried about the pack's future.

--

Abattoir Compound - Dining Room

Klaus, Kassandra and Freya were sitting at the table.

Elijah took his seat next to Klaus.

Klaus looked at Freya. "Your stories are fascinating. And Dahlia does indeed sound dreadful. But Elijah, Kassandra and I have killed our fair share of evil witches."

"Not like her," Freya told them.

"What are her weaknesses?" Elijah asked.

"She's paranoid," Freya answered. "Obsessed with power. She hungers constantly for what's been denied her, be it love or revenge."

Kassandra looked at Klaus. "Yes, I think I'm familiar with the type."

Klaus smirked, looking away.

"When I was a child, she would tell me tales of her own youth," Freya told them. "Of being victimized by those stronger than her. Dahlia vowed never to be weak again. She bargained for the firstborn of Esther's bloodline intending to raise us in her own image. Forming a coven of her own from which she could draw endless power. That plan was foiled the day she learned that Esther had ended her bloodline, by turning her children into vampires. And so the burden fell to me. Dahlia demanded I bear the firstborn that would add to her power. But I would not allow a child of mine to live as I did. As a slave. So I vowed never to love."

Freya let a tear fall.

Klaus looked at Kassandra. "Yes, I think I'm familiar with the type."

"Under completely different circumstances, as you well know," Kassandra told him.

Klaus looked away.

Freya looked at Kassandra, smiling a small, sympathetic smile. "It's hard, isn't it, Kassandra?" Kassandra looked at her. "To deny yourself love even though that is what everyone longs for most?" Kassandra didn't answer, lowering her gaze. Freya nodded knowingly in understanding. "Of course, the more I resisted, the harder Dahlia fought to control me."

Flashback

Kingdom of Norway - 977 AD

Night - Woods

Freya stood in front of Dahlia, watching her conduct a spell.

Freya and Dahlia were both older.

Dahlia was humming her lullaby.

Freya: (voice over) "Until the day when she took the last of what little freedom I had left."

Dahlia stood, offering a hand to Freya. "Take my hand."

Freya shook her head, backing away. "No. This is not right. You've already taken everything from me. I will not follow you into this madness."

"Don't be stupid," Dahlia told her. "I'm offering you eternal life. We will sleep for a century and wake with a power unlike any that's ever been seen. It's what we wanted."

"What you wanted," Freya corrected. "Please. Do not bind me with this curse."

Dahlia took Freya's hands forcefully, pulling her closer. "Ungrateful child. You will thank me for this in one century or the next."

Dahlia started to chant.

--

Cottage

Dahlia and Freya were sleeping on beds side by side.

Freya: (voice over) "And so we slept. Our magic accruing over time, until we woke, filled with immense power and allowed to live a single year of life."

--

Now

Day - Abattoir Compound - Courtyard

Klaus, Elijah, Kassandra and Freya sat at the table.

Freya had tears in her eyes. "That has been the existence I've suffered for the last ten centuries."

Klaus chuckled. "It's quite the ordeal, isn't it? But it does beg the question, why not end it yourself?" Freya looked down. "A high enough bridge, a tight enough noose. You must have considered it."

Freya closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, opening them. "Long ago, I did consider it. But Dahlia would never give me even that freedom. I would later learn the spell made me like her. Immortal, and impervious to harm." She wiped the tears away. "So, you see, I am like you. A creature of great power, cursed for all time."

Noah's Apartment - Living Room

Auria and Caitlin were sitting on the couch, drinking.

Marcel and Noah were standing nearby.

"Caitlin, Auria, if you don't want to do this..." Marcel trailed off.

Caitlin poured another glass. "Of course I don't want to do this. The guy practically tried to kill me."

"Well, not this guy," Noah told her. "Vincent Griffith is just another victim."

"Yes, but as of yesterday, he was Finn," Caitlin told them. "Finn, who trapped me in a compound during a werewolf and starving vampire summit, tortured the hell out of me and all of you, trapped us in a church bell tower... and now, you're begging me to talk to him, because he feels guilty for all the kids that this Eva kidnapped and/or killed, because you know that talking to someone who might as well be one of those very kids will just get him to spill his dirty little secrets."

Marcel and Noah exchanged a look.

"Caitlin, I have to do this, because of the agreement with the witches," Auria told her.

"But you're the renegade witch, and he might not talk to you," Caitlin told her. "He might talk to me because he feels guilty, Auria. I mean, it's fine. I'll do it. I just... need a drink first."

Caitlin took a drink.

Marcel stood, walking over to the door, calling out for the vampires standing guard outside. "Bring him in!"

Two vampire guards brought Vincent inside.

Caitlin and Auria frowned, standing.

Vincent jerked out of their grip, looking at Noah in annoyance. "What is this, Noah? You dragging me out of this dump back inside without telling me what's going on, man?"

Noah chuckled in amusement. "Dump? Ouch. And I thought getting some fresh air might brighten your mood. Maybe it's us vamps. So, how about we give you a chance to talk to our friends here?" He pointed to Caitlin and Auria. "You be nice, all right? Or we won't."

Marcel looked at Caitlin and Auria. "We'll be right outside."

Auria nodded.

Marcel, Noah and the two other vampires walked out of the apartment, but remained close enough outside that they could hear them talking.

Auria looked at Vincent. "Would you like to sit down?" Vincent looked around the loft, taking in the environment, but didn't say anything. Auria sighed awkwardly. "Okay, I'm Auria. This is Caitlin."

"I know who you are, Auria Rayvnne," Vincent told her. "Just like I know that's Caitlin Harris."

"Of course you do," Caitlin told him. "All witches seem to."

Caitlin sighed, sitting down.

Vincent sighed. "And I know what Marcel and Noah's plot is here. They think I'll break because Caitlin could have been one of those kids that Eva took. That my guilt will make me tell you everything. But you should know that this isn't gonna work. I do not break. Not for vampires, not for pretty-faced renegade witches, and not for victimized teenage girls that happen to be linked to the former king of the Quarter."

Auria smiled. "Well, that's a relief, because the last time we spoke, I got the feeling you were kind of obsessed with me."

Vincent frowned. "You know the guy who did this to me?"

Auria nodded. "We both do. I'm the one who pulled him out of your body." Vincent looked at them in surprise, taking this in. "We'll tell you about it... if you want."

"And what's in it for the two of you?" Vincent asked suspiciously.

"A little exchange of information never hurt anyone," Auria told him.

Vincent rolled his eyes, chuckling.

"Look, if you want to be the guy in the room who doesn't know where he was last week, that's fine," Caitlin told him. "But if you wanna know the truth, from two people who had front row seats, sit down."

Vincent looked at them warily, sighing.

Auria looked at Caitlin.

Caitlin raised her eyebrows slightly, expectantly.

Abandoned Warehouse District

Eva/Rebekah was laying face-down on the ground after passing out. Her phone, which she had dropped on the ground before she fell, began to ring, which finally caused her to wake up. Confused, she pushed herself into a seated position, but after a moment, she started getting more flashes of Eva channeling children and groaned in pain. She tried to get her bearings, finally answering the phone. "Elijah?"

Elijah was in the hallway of the compound. "I expected you hours ago."

Eva/Rebekah stood, looking around anxiously. "Yes, well, I seem to have lost track of time."

Elijah was alarmed. "What's wrong? Where are you?"

"That's just it," Eva/Rebekah told him. "I don't know."

The camera shot panned outward, revealing that Eva/Rebekah was standing in the middle of a block of old, run-down, abandoned warehouses. It was completely deserted aside for her.

--~--

Bayou

Jackson and Mikayla were sparring. Jackson tried to punch her. Mikayla backed away to make him miss, trying to punch him. Jackson ducked. Mikayla tried to back-elbow him in the face. Jackson raised both hands to block the move. Mikayla continued the arm movement to grab his shoulder, making them circle around, trying to punch him. Jackson ducked to the side. Though Jackson was easily dodging and blocking the hits, Mikayla was still the better fighter due to her hybrid abilities.

Mikayla stopped, looking at Jackson in concern. "You still thinking about what Aiden said?"

Jackson sighed. "He was just trying to help. Being Alpha is an honor. It's one you have to earn every day, and... the pack is changing." They walked toward Jackson's trailer. "You know? We're going to face some challenges. I just want them to know that I'm here to lead for them. That I put them first."

They sat down on the picnic table outside of the trailer.

Mikayla picked up two glasses of bourbon off of the table, handing one of them to Jackson, sighing. "The pack loves you, Jack. You just have to remind them of that. Buy them a round of beers, turn on that backwoods-bayou charm. Worked on me."

Mikayla smiled, taking a drink.

"What about our other problem?" Jackson asked.

"Hmm, you mean our evil landlord?" Mikayla asked.

Jackson sighed. "Klaus acts like we're his personal army. I don't trust him."

"Hayley and I can handle Klaus," Mikayla told him. "We're a team, right? You and I united the pack together." They stood, facing each other. "Are things changing? Yes. But one of those changes is that we no longer have to go through this alone."

Mikayla and Jackson entwined their fingers, holding their hands up at shoulder level for them to see. They looked at each other, smiling. Jackson brushed a lock of hair behind her ear, kissing her sweetly and passionately. Mikayla wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a deeper, sweeter and more passionate kiss.

Abattoir Compound - Elijah's Study

Klaus, Elijah, Kassandra and Eva/Rebekah were talking.

Eva/Rebekah was pacing. "It was this witch, Eva. The nasty little cow is inside me, trying to bust her way out."

"Freya is waiting downstairs," Elijah told them. "Perhaps--"

"Have you lost your mind?" Klaus asked. "Tell me we're not considering opening our sister's head to someone we barely know."

"Nik, for God's sake, she is our sister," Kassandra told him. "She saved Rebekah from the Fauline Cottage."

"An act meant to no doubt secure her trust, perhaps for this very moment to strike when we are vulnerable," Klaus told them. "No. We've no way to prove that anything she's said today is true."

"Niklaus, I understand your concern," Elijah told him. "All of us are powerless to help our sister. Either we leave Rebekah to suffer, or we place our faith in the hands of someone I believe to be our blood. Right now, I'm inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to family."

Klaus didn't answer.

--

Noah's Loft

Caitlin and Auria were sitting on the couch.

Vincent was sitting backwards in a small folding chair across from them. "I woke up last night. I didn't know where I was, or how long I'd been there, let alone that I had lost nine months of my life. Noah said the guy who possessed me, this Finn, he made a lot of enemies." He looked at them pleadingly, obviously horrified. "What did he do?"

"He... terrorized the city," Auria answered. "He threatened and manipulated his enemies. Tried to steal an innocent child. And executed his brother." Vincent looked overwhelmed by this response, rubbing his face, sighing. "Vincent, what you experienced was a violation of a profoundly personal nature. And whatever you are feeling, I'm here to listen."

"That's just it," Vincent told them. "What do I say? Am--Am I--Am I just supposed to feel bad for these people that I hurt? Am I--Am I supposed to feel guilty for this..." He stood, angrily flipping the chair he had been sitting on, turning away, embarrassed at his outburst. "This man I killed?" He looked ashamed, picking the chair up, sitting down, sighing deeply. "I'm sorry."

Caitlin nodded barely, avoiding eye contact. "It's okay. I've had more than my fair share of... violent outbursts."

Vincent hesitated for a moment to process this information, noticing the way Caitlin was acting. "You can barely look me in the eye." Caitlin looked up. "Did I..." He sighed, looking between Caitlin and Auria. "Did he... hurt either of you?"

Caitlin hesitated, looking away.

Auria looked at Vincent. "He hurt a lot of people." Vincent processed, taking a deep breath. "Listen to me. You didn't do anything."

Auria looked at Caitlin, nodding.

Caitlin looked at Vincent, sighing. "Marcel... compelled me to forget the truth about what happened with the coven that linked me to him that night. He compelled me to forget that my parents were the ones that handed me over to them." Vincent was taken aback. "He knew it would destroy me. But when he was bitten by Klaus, we both hallucinated, and it made us both relive that night. It made me remember what really happened that night four years ago. I know it's not the same, but..." Vincent nodded barely in understanding. "And I know that I'm the last person who should talk about moving on, but that's really the only thing you can do now."

Vincent leaned forward with his head in his hands, eventually nodding in agreement.

Auria looked at Caitlin, proud for what she had told him.

Caitlin sighed, looking down.

Abattoir Compound - Elijah's Study

Kassandra led Freya into the room to join their siblings.

Freya smiled. "Rebekah." Eva/Rebekah stood. "It's good to see you again."

Freya took Eva/Rebekah's hands.

"And you," Eva/Rebekah told her. "Though, I'd prefer better circumstances."

Eva/Rebekah and Freya sat down.

"You needn't worry," Freya told her. "Kassandra explained the problem. And I can help."

Klaus was sitting across the room. "Rather confident, aren't we?"

Elijah gave Klaus a look.

Freya looked at Eva/Rebekah. "The spirit of the host body is powerful, but I can cast a spell. Put you in a deep sleep, and then suppress this other essence. You'll be just fine."

"Lovely," Eva/Rebekah told her. "When do we start?"

"Oh, you've gotta be kidding me," Klaus told them. "She spouts off some magical diagnosis, and we are all supposed to applaud?"

"Nik, she's trying to help," Kassandra told him.

Klaus looked at Freya. "Yes, but for the sake of keeping our options open, why not write down your spells and incantations? That way, we can have them double-checked by an impartial third party. Say Auria. She'd love to prove me wrong."

"Finn told me how powerful Auria is, and that she's won against him numerous times," Freya told him. "But I doubt even she would understand my magic, let alone have the power to execute it."

"Oh, so you're our only hope, then," Klaus told her. "Seems rather convenient, doesn't it? Clearly, you don't know Auria Rayvnne. One of the most powerful witches of New Orleans. Strong enough to take down Finn... once or twice, though they had many encounters. Then again, Finn was almost always channeling the power of our parents, so he had an advantage that Miss Rayvnne didn't."

"I knew it would be difficult to win your trust, Niklaus," Freya told him. "Your reputation precedes you." Klaus smirked sarcastically. Freya stood, stepping closer. "But if we are to face Dahlia together, you will have to trust me. Given the peril that Rebekah now faces, are you truly incapable of giving me even a chance to prove myself?" Klaus didn't answer, turning away. "I know I appear as an outsider, but I have dreamt of you all for a thousand years." Eva/Rebekah, Elijah and Kassandra exchanged a look. "Elijah, when you were in Esther's womb, she would ask me to sing to you. I would feel her belly as I did." Freya smiled a small smile, stepping closer to Elijah. "How you would kick. She would say it was as if Thor himself had raised his hammer--"

"And summoned thunder and lightning," Elijah finished. Freya smiled a small smile, nodding. "Mother rarely mentioned you. When she did, she would say how enchanted you were by the prospect of my birth."

"How I wanted more brothers," Freya told him. She looked at Eva/Rebekah and Kassandra. "And sisters." Eva/Rebekah smiled a small smile. "More than anything. But between Esther and Dahlia, that wish was taken from me. I was ruined by those who raised me. If nothing else, at least we have that in common. There is nothing that can replace what was taken from us. But I hope we can make something better in its place. All you have to do is trust me."

Klaus rushed up behind Freya, snapping her neck, holding her body in his arms so she wouldn't fall.

Eva/Rebekah stood. "Nik!"

"Well, that's enough of that," Klaus told them. "Don't you think?" He let her body fall to the floor. "Right. Now we can have a proper family meeting."

--~--

Eva/Rebekah knelt next to Freya's body, looking at Klaus. "Was that absolutely necessary?"

"Oh, please," Klaus told them. "She was insufferable."

Eva/Rebekah stood.

Kassandra pointed at Klaus. "That was ridiculous, even for you."

"You've only just met her," Klaus told them. "Let's not get sentimental. Besides, if she was telling the truth about being immortal, she'll awaken shortly. If she was lying, good riddance."

"Of course, if she wakes, she'll be willing to help us with unbridled enthusiasm," Elijah told him sarcastically.

"She played you all for fools," Klaus told them. "Can you not see that? She spins a sad yam about a small child taken by an evil witch and you fall over yourselves to mend what's broken."

"How can you be so certain?" Kassandra asked.

"Simple," Klaus told them. "It's exactly what I'd do." Kassandra knelt on the other side of Freya's body next to Eva/Rebekah. "My only question now is, what's in it for her?"

"Whatever the truth may be, she's in no position to help us now," Elijah told them.

"Well, then we should try Caitlin, Auria, Marcel and Noah," Eva/Rebekah told them, standing. "Perhaps they've had luck on their end." She looked at Klaus. "Surely they've put in a better effort."

Elijah and Eva/Rebekah walked out, leaving.

"You know I'm right, Kassandra," Klaus told her. "We can't have an alliance with someone we can't trust."

"If you don't trust her, then that is your choice," Kassandra told him. "I only hope that choice comes from a place of reason. Not fear."

Kassandra lifted Freya from the floor in her arms.

"And where do you think you're going with her?" Klaus asked.

"Somewhere alone until she wakes up," Kassandra answered. "I have a feeling that she won't be very excited in talking to you after what you've done. I would at least like to give her a chance to gain our trust, Nik. Unlike you."

Kassandra rushed out with Freya's body, leaving.

Night - Noah's Loft - Living Room

Vincent was looking out of the windows of the loft to watch the lit skyline of New Orleans and the nearby Mississippi River.

Auria and Caitlin walked closer with drinks.

"Leave it to Noah to have the best view of the city," Caitlin told them.

Vincent nodded in agreement. "Mm. Sometimes I forget what a beautiful city it is. Especially with all the ugliness that comes with it."

"Have you always lived here?" Auria asked.

"Mm-hmm," Vincent answered. "Born and raised in the Treme. Lived through its ups and downs. Then it came to trouble with the vampires, and sometimes it was even worse. I gave up on being a witch. Walked away from my coven. I guess that was why I was easy prey for your friend Finn."

Caitlin chuckled bitterly. "Yeah, trust us. Not our friend."

Vincent chuckled.

"I guess that kind of makes us alike, right?" Auria asked. "You walked away from your coven, but you gave up being a witch. I walked away from New Orleans, but I went to travel the world and learn all that I could learn . Better ways than the Quarter witches. Ones that didn't require sacrifices and murders."

Vincent and Auria looked at Caitlin.

Caitlin looked down at her drink, sighing, taking a sip.

Vincent sighed. "Noah was asking about Eva Sinclair. You need to tell him to get back in here. There's something you all need to know."

St. Louis Cathedral - Bell Tower

Kassandra was in St. Louis' Cathedral's bell tower Freya's body, having her lying on the floor, waiting for her to wake.

Freya gasped alive.

"Ah, you're awake," Kassandra told her. Freya sat up. "Well, clearly, your restorative powers are not renowned for their speed. I'm sorry for what Nik did to you, believe it or not."

Freya stood. "Well, immortality is a bold claim. I... understand if he had to make sure I was telling the truth." She looked around the bell tower. "Why did you bring me here, Kassandra?"

"So we could talk alone," Kassandra answered. "After Niklaus snapped your neck, Rebekah and Elijah stormed out. And I knew you wouldn't want to talk to Nik after what he did to you, much less tell him the truth, so I brought you here. While I believe that you are telling the truth about being our sister, Freya, I suspect you were not entirely forthcoming. I brought you here to give you one last chance to tell the full truth."

Freya looked at her nervously.

--~--

Freya faced the table. "You wanna know why I hate Dahlia? It goes back to a man. His name was Mathias. We knew each other for one perfect year in the early 1400s. I loved him more than my own life." She turned to face Kassandra. "And Dahlia allowed me to love him."

Kassandra nodded. "Of course. She wanted you to bear her another firstborn."

"I broke my vow and gave in to love," Freya told her. "And that led to the darkest moment of my life. The day when I tried to steal from Dahlia that which she wanted most."

"And what precisely was that?" Kassandra asked.

Freya had tears in her eyes. "My son."

--

Flashback

Kingdom of Norway - Early 1400s

Day - Woods

In the woods surrounded by snowfall, Freya was pregnant, holding her bloated belly, crying.

Mathias was crying tears of blood, falling to his knees, choking, holding his throat in pain.

Freya: (voice over) "Mathias only wanted our child to be born free."

Mathias fell dead, lying in the snow.

Freya knelt next to his body, crying in devastation.

Freya: (voice over) "For that, Dahlia cursed him to death."

Freya looked toward where Dahlia was standing.

Freya: (voice over) "I knew I'd never be free of her, that my child would be born a slave."

--

Cottage

Freya looked around desperately, frantically, grabbing a vial of poison, opening it, drinking it instantly, quickly.

Freya: (voice over) "To spare us both from the horrors of the life I had known, I took a bottle of Dahlia's strongest poison."

Dahlia ran inside.

Freya turned to face her weakly, lightheaded and breathless.

"I gave you everything," Dahlia told her. "You dare to take what is mine?"

Freya fell to the floor, drifting away into death.

Freya: (voice over) "I wanted to die. For only death could finally give me the release I'd longed for."

--

Now

Night - St. Louis Cathedral - Bell Tower

Freya continued her story for Kassandra. She had tears in her eyes. "But Dahlia knew that my death was never an option. That was the day I learned that I could never die."

--

Flashback

Kingdom of Norway - Early 1400s

Night - Cottage

Freya gasped alive.

Dahlia sat at her bedside.

Freya looked around in denial, frightened. "How can this be? How am I alive?"

"The spell that sealed our magic sleep guards us from all forms of harm," Dahlia answered. Freya stood, backing away. "But the spell did not protect everyone."

Freya looked down to see that her belly was normal, realizing that she had lost her baby. "No." She started to cry, breaking down into sobs. "My baby."

Freya sat on the bed next to Dahlia in devastation.

Dahlia laid Freya's head on her shoulder. "There, there. There, there, my dear. I will forgive you for this. Eventually. But you can never forget. There is no escape from me. Not even death."

--

Now

Night - St. Louis Cathedral - Bell Tower

Freya continued her story, turning to face Kassandra. "It was Dahlia who made me do what I did. She turned me into a monster, and I will destroy her for it. Tell me, Kassandra, is that the truth you wanted to hear? That Dahlia killed my one and only love, like Niklaus has killed a handful of yours... and made me kill my own child thinking I wouldn't be back to become the monster that Dahlia wanted me to be?" Kassandra didn't answer. Freya walked closer. "Whether you believe me or not... whether you think this is a tale of lies to garner your sympathy so I could manipulate you or not... one final truth remains. Dahlia is coming for us. With me, you have a chance to defeat her. Without me, she will take our niece and make her a slave. She will suffer as I had, never knowing her family because Dahlia will have rendered you into ash."

"Are you quite done with the theatrics, sister?" Kassandra asked. "That's my territory." Freya smirked a bit through her tears. "There might need be an alliance between us. Our family, against Dahlia. Some might take convincing. Some will not. But rest assured. We will not let Hope live the life that you endured."

Freya barely nodded.

Noah's Loft - Living Room

Marcel and Noah led Elijah and Eva/Rebekah inside toward Vincent, Caitlin and Auria.

Marcel looked at Elijah and Eva/Rebekah. "We filled the guy in, but he's still a little freaked out about all of this."

"Good," Eva/Rebekah told them. "That makes us a prefect pair."

Vincent downed a glass of bourbon, looking at Marcel and Noah. "You know, your schemes are as transparent as you are. You didn't send Caitlin in here with Auria to talk to me just because she could easily be one of Eva's victims. You sent her because she's one of the people Finn hurt most, to prey on my guilt, and because of what you compelled her to forget all those years ago."

Noah smiled a small smile. "Well, we knew you could relate to the way Caitlin's been treated."

Eva/Rebekah walked closer to Vincent.

Vincent looked stunned to see her.

"Marcel and Noah are quite the cunning strategists," Eva/Rebekah told him. "And I can tell by your face that you knew the previous occupant of this body." She smiled. "Rest assured, you're now speaking to Rebekah Mikaelson. So, who are you? I mean, now that you're not my brother Finn?"

Vincent was surprised. "Vincent Griffith. I would say 'at your service', but that implies I had a choice in the matter."

Eva/Rebekah looked at Elijah, Marcel, Noah, Caitlin and Auria, smiling. "Oh, he's witty. Wonderful." She looked at Vincent. "Now, I hear you have some information for me."

"Just, give me a second," Vincent told them, overwhelmed, looking at Eva/Rebekah, walking closer, piquing Elijah's interest. He laughed softly. "When they put Eva in the Fauline Cottage, I never thought I'd see her again."

"How exactly is that you knew Eva?" Auria asked.

"She was my wife," Vincent answered.

The others looked at him in shock.

"Well..." Caitlin trailed off. "That is just fan-freaking-tastic, isn't it?"

Abattoir Compound - Courtyard

Klaus was sullenly standing at the bar in the courtyard, pouring himself a drink.

Hayley saw him from the balcony above, walking down the stairs so she could talk to him, not immediately noticing his foul mood. "We need to talk."

Klaus rolled his eyes, taking a drink of bourbon, sighing. "Do we, indeed? You've come to express your gratitude and the courtesy that I've shown Mikayla and her husband? Or, perhaps you're here to thank me for my efforts to protect their pack?"

"All this tension between you, Mikayla, Jackson, and the wolves, we need to put it behind us," Hayley told him. "Give Mikayla and Jackson the space they need to run the pack as they see fit. No more orders, no more favors. They're the Alphas. Period."

Klaus laughed mockingly. "I'm sorry, did you really think that I would ever agree to let Jackson control the wolves?"

Hayley lost her temper. "You will show him respect. He is on our side, and he's married to Mkayla, and he's fighting for our daughter."

"You know, I've spent all day with people who claim to be fighting for our daughter," Klaus told her. "Some, I trust. Some, I do not. But, one thing is for sure. There is only one person I trust when it comes to my child's safety, and that would be me." He walked past her. Hayley glared after him. Klaus turned to face her to continue arguing. "You know, you all seem to think that this is a democracy. I assure you, it is not. If Dahlia is coming, then she is a threat to my child, which means I decide how to protect her. No one else. And if Jackson or anyone strays from the course that I set, then they will answer to me. And Mikayla's husband would do well to remember that. In fact, I think I'll leave it to you to remind them. That way, when Jackson does inevitably incur my wrath again, you and Mikayla will only have you to blame."

Klaus stormed out of the courtyard.

Hayley was incredibly livid, considering her options.

Rousseau's

Auria was drinking her sazerac at the bar.

Vincent walked in, sitting next to Auria, grabbing a bottle of liquor from behind the bar. "You know, after today, I could use a drink. Do you work here or something?"

Auria smiled, shaking her head. "No. I just come here a lot, and my friend is the bartender here. She lets me lock up the place if she has to go. She's also a psychology major with a major thesis coming up." Vincent chuckled. Auria grabbed a glass. "I see Marcel and Noah let you go."

"Eh, they have a sense of reciprocity... for vampires," Vincent told her. Auria chuckled. "I told you all what I knew. But, if Eva's coming back here, I don't want anything to do with her. Too much history." He downed his entire drink in one gulp, wincing. "Whew. As for you, stay away from that crowd. Do like me, make it a clean break."

"Not the first time I've heard that advice," Auria told him. Vincent shrugged in understanding. "But, if there's one thing I've learned in this town? We're better when we're not alone."

Vincent was surprised by her kindness, smiling.

(Song:) Every Age - Jose Gonzalez

Auria poured Vincent another drink, holding up her own glass.

They clinked their glasses together, drinking.

Noah's Loft - Living Room

Noah was standing outside the threshold of the loft.

Caitlin was sitting at the table, signing the documents that would put the loft into her name. She smiled, looking up. "And done." She capped the pen, standing, walking toward Noah and the door, where Noah was leaning against the doorway, smirking expectantly and patiently. Caitlin smiled. "Noah Dumaine, will you please come in to our home?"

Noah smiled, stepping inside. "Of course I would... Caitlin Harris." He pulled Caitlin into his arms suddenly, making her laugh in surprise and happiness, kissing her passionately for a moment. Caitlin wrapped her arms around his neck to continue kissing him passionately, pulling away after a moment, smiling. Noah chuckled. "I feel like this is cause for celebration."

"Well, don't get too excited," Caitlin told him. "The deed keeps the vampires out. It doesn't keep the witches from getting in."

"We'll figure it out," Noah told her. "You're gonna be okay. I promise."

Caitlin sighed, pacing. "It's just... that the past week, with Mikael and Finn kidnapping me, repeatedly... I just didn't feel safe anymore. Not over there." She turned to face Noah. "And when Finn locked me in the compound with the starving vampires... thinking that one of them... or that you could've hurt me... I was vulnerable. Weak, even. It's an uncomfortable moment, realizing you're genuinely afraid."

Noah walked closer Caitlin, lifting her chin with his finger so he could look her in the eyes. "It's okay to be scared." He took Caitlin's hand in his. "And we are all vulnerable. But weak?" He shook his head. "No. Let me tell you something. You may be human. And you might not have powers. You might have power inside that you can't control, that has to be manipulated by witches. But you're the strongest person I have ever met." Noah and Caitlin looked at each other for a long moment, smiling small smiles. "Do you need anything?"

Caitlin sighed, nodding. "I could use a drink. We're celebrating after all, right?"

Noah chuckled, nodding. "Right."

Noah backed away toward the table to pour them both a drink.

Caitlin looked at Noah thoughtfully for a moment. "And I want to learn how to fight." Noah looked at her curiously. "I mean it. I don't want to sit around and wait for someone to rescue me. I want to be able to take care of myself. You say that I'm the strongest person you've ever met? Teach me to be stronger, Noah."

Noah brought the glasses closer, looking at her thoughtfully, nodding. "All right. Anything to keep you safe, Caitlin."

Caitlin smiled. "Yeah. I thought you would say that."

Noah and Caitlin looked at each other for a moment, starting to kiss slowly, sweetly and softly, building up passionately.

Abattoir Compound - Rebekah's Room

Eva/Rebekah walked into her room. She was suddenly hit with another painful headache as Eva once again tried to regain control of her body, doubling over, crying out in pain. She saw a vision of carving the sacrificial channeling sigil on another girl's forehead, horrified. She came to, starting to try to catch her breath, sitting down on the bed.

Mikayla had heard the noise from outside the room, walking inside worriedly. "Are you all right?"

"I honestly don't know," Eva/Rebekah told her. Mikayla walked closer in concern. "I keep having flashes of memory, but they fade almost as soon as I've had them."

Mikayla looked worried.  "Rebekah..."

"I'm fine, Mikayla," Eva/Rebekah told her. "I think we all just need some rest."

--

Abandoned Warehouse

In the block of abandoned warehouses where Eva/Rebekah had found herself after blacking out, there was one storage space that was full of the unconscious bodies of the teenagers that Eva Sinclair had been channeling.

Among them was Davina, who had a fresh sacrificial sigil carved into her forehead, in the shape of the Norse rune "gar," a modified version of the Norse alphabet rune "gebu."

Flashback - Earlier That Day

Morning - Lafayette Cemetery - Kol's Playhouse

When Eva/Rebekah had been hanging out with Davina to figure out what was wrong with her, Eva had regained control of her body to go after Davina.

Davina looked at them in confusion. "Rebekah?"

Day - Warehouse

Eva carved the sigil, a large "X" with a diamond shape around it, into Davina's forehead with a knife, deposited it in the warehouse with the other children she was channeling.

Now

Night - Abattoir Compound - Courtyard

Kassandra walked into the compound abattoir courtyard to see Klaus standing alone, pouring himself a drink. "I took Freya to St. Louis' Cathedral bell tower. I waited until she revived, and when she did, we had quite a chat. And she told me the truth. The entire truth, be as it may. I looked in her eyes and I saw anger and fear. And a will to do whatever it takes to survive, no matter who she hurts. She is truly a Mikaelson, brother."

"Fine," Klaus told her, turning to face Kassandra. "You trust her. Elijah trusts her. Rebekah trusts her. I trust her to do whatever she has to defeat Dahlia, but nothing more. I could never allow so damaged a creature to have a say in my plans. If we are to have an alliance, it is to my will."

"You may not trust her, but trust me, brother," Kassandra told him. "We may have had our differences as of late, but we shall exercise the same caution we've always demonstrated towards our allies."

"Fine," Klaus told her. "I'll let you pursue it. But should Freya betray us--"

"If Freya should even attempt to betray us, I shall bury her beneath a thousand wretched torments," Kassandra told him.

"I don't doubt it," Klaus told her. "This is the Kassandra Mikaelson that the world has grown to know in ways that they can't even begin to imagine that you may have a softer side, dear sister. And I know that Freya will not be an exception if she turns out like the rest of our twisted family that has plotted against us. But what if you're too late? What if Freya is duplicitous?" He stepped closer to Kassandra. "What if Hope should be harmed through her actions? You won't have to worry that I'll never forgive you, because you will never forgive yourself. You will suffer a guilt that will be impossible to endure. A terrible fate for one who cannot die."

"Nothing will happen to that girl," Kassandra told him. "But we have to consider every weapon at our disposal, brother. Dahlia is coming."

Nursery

Hope was sleeping soundly in her crib.

Kassandra: (voice over) "The only question is when."

Dahlia's voice could be heard humming the same tune from earlier in the chapter/episode.

Flashback - 977 AD

Now

Night - Abattoir Compound - Nursery

Hope was still sleeping soundly in her crib.

The music box on the nightstand next to Hope's crib magically wound itself up, starting to play the same tune Dahlia was humming.

After a moment, the curtains began to billow around as a breeze suddenly blew through the open window.
