chapter 11 - Brotherhood of the Damned

From 2.03 "Every Mother's Child", in the courtyard, Klaus, Kassandra and Elijah waked out of the compound.
Marcel: (voice over) "Previously on Worlds Colliding (The Originals)"
From 2.03 "Every Mother's Child", in the dining room of the compound, Vincent/Finn looked at his siblings, feigning offense. "You mean you don't recognize me?"
Kassandra looked at him in realization. "It's been a long time, Finn."
From 2.10 "Gonna Set Your Flag On Fire", in the Mikaelson Safe House, Klaus, Elijah, Kassandra, Hayley, Mikayla and Cami were talking.
Klaus looked at Cami. "Hayley, Kassandra, Mikayla and I will return home. You will remain here with Elijah."
"He's been experiencing some side effects since his ordeal as our mother's captive," Kassandra told her.
From 2.10 "Gonna Set Your Flag On Fire", on the outside balcony of the compound, Jackson and Mikayla were talking.
"So, you ready to do this?" Mikayla asked. "I mean, I know it's not gonna be simple, this mystical Unification Ceremony."
From 2.10 "Gonna Set Your Flag On Fire", in the courtyard, Klaus and Hayley stood on the balcony, watching the drama unfold below.
The werewolves and the vampires were trying to form an alliance in the courtyard of the compound.
Jackson and Mikayla were standing between the two groups.
"You wolves are here because you want freedom," Mikayla told them.
"My vamps and I are willing to stand with you against the witches," Marcel told them.
Vincent/Finn walked between the two groups. "I see you're brokering a truce."
Kassandra and Kaleb/Kol joined Klaus and Hayley on the balcony. They were all alarmed and confused to what Vincent/Finn was doing.
Vincent/Finn backed away toward the doorway, backing out of the threshold, outside of the compound. He held a hand toward the alleyway behind him, using magic to pull Caitlin into view, pushing her into the compound, making her fall to the ground on her back painfully. He rubbed his fingers together, blowing on them, casting a spell. He slammed his hand against the doorway.
The entire building shook, startling everyone.
Noah slammed into an invisible barrier. His skin burned as if he was outside in the sun without a daylight ring. He had to back away from the doorway before his hand could catch fire.
Kaleb/Kol: (voice over from 2.10 Gonna Set Your Flag On Fire) "Did he really just trap us all in here?"
From 2.10 "Gonna Set Your Flag On Fire", in Kassandra's room, Kassandra was on the phone with Vincent/Finn.
"If those vampires even attempt to feed, they'll find themselves unable to stop," Vincent/Finn told her.
From 2.10 "Gonna Set Your Flag On Fire", in the courtyard, Kaleb/Kol, Davina and Auria were setting up a spell at the barrier/doorway.
Marcel walked toward them.
"Her blood can help us cast a destruction spell," Auria told him. "It would temporarily neutralize all magical objects in the compound, including the compound itself. It will give us sixty seconds to escape while the boundary is shut down."
Later, Auria, Davina and Kaleb/Kol completed the spell.
Hayley, Mikayla and Jackson ushered the werewolves past Kaleb/Kol, Davina and Auria.
The vampires, who couldn't leave in the daylight, hid out in the shadows of the courtyard until it was safe again.
Caitlin ran out of the compound, standing next to Davina and Auria.
Davina and Auria wrapped their arms around Caitlin in relief, sighing.
Klaus walked out of the compound, standing with Davina, Caitlin and Auria.
Kassandra walked with him. Her daylight necklace was disrupted, so it didn't protect her from the sun, making her burn and groan and gasp in pain. Since she was an Original, the sun wouldn't kill her, allowing her to step through the threshold to the other side into the shade. She stood with Davina, Caitlin, Auria and Klaus, starting to heal from being burned, breathing heavily in relief. She looked at Kaleb/Kol. "Come on. Now."
Kaleb/Kol started to cross the threshold.
Klaus grabbed Kaleb/Kol, throwing him back into the compound, making him fall to the ground and cut his forehead. "Slight change of plans, sister."
Davina looked at Klaus. "They'll kill him."
"Well, he should have thought about that before he betrayed our sister," Klaus told them. Kaleb/Kol tried to pass the threshold. His skin burned, making him back away and groan in pain. Klaus smirked mockingly. "Ooh. Barrier's back up."The vampires realized they could go back into the sunlight, swarming around Kaleb/Kol. "And those vampires look oh-so hungry."

Day One
Morning - St. Anne's Church
A woman covered all of the statues inside the church with red satin streets.
--
The French Quarter
Everyone was wearing white and/or red clothing.
Children ran through the street carrying flags.
Adults mingled on the sidewalks.
A parade of parishioners marched up the main street in white and red robes, some of whom were carrying their own statues covered in red sheets.
--
Abattoir Compound - Courtyard
The vampires were still stuck in the compound with Kaleb/Kol thanks to Vincent/Finn's boundary spell.
Noah was sitting on the couch, gazing off, still suffering from extreme hunger. He was tormenting himself for trying to go after Caitlin, even though it hadn't been his fault.
Marcel was watching from the balcony, looking down, worried about everyone.
--
Marcel's Loft
Caitlin, Auria and Davina were standing together.
Davina looked at her best friend. "Caitlin, you're sure you're okay?"
"Not really," Caitlin answered. "I'm freaked out."
"Look, we have to find a way to get everyone out of the compound, but to do that, we need to find Finn," Auria told her. "We gotta meet up with Klaus and Kassandra to find him." She walked closer to Caitlin in concern. "Are you sure you're okay to be here alone, Caitlin?"
"Yeah," Caitlin answered.
"We're gonna put up a spell," Davina told her. "It'll keep anyone from coming in until Auria takes it down. You'll be able to leave here, but no one will be able to just walk in and take you like that again."
"Okay," Caitlin told them. "Yeah, go ahead. Davina, Auria, do whatever you have to do to take this psycho down. If you set up the spell, no one can come in, and I'll be safe. Trust me."
"Okay," Auria told her, embracing Caitlin for a moment, pulling away, backing away toward the door, pointing at Caitlin, raising her eyebrows. "We'll be back soon."
Caitlin nodded. "I know."
Caitlin and Davina embraced, pulling away.
Davina smiled a small smile, walking toward Auria.
Auria and Davina walked out of the loft, putting up the spell so that no one could go in but Caitlin could come out.
Caitlin sighed, turning to the drink table, taking off her leather jacket, placing it aside, taking a glass and bottle of bourbon, pouring herself a drink. Her hands were shaking, revealing just how shaken up she really was. She noticed a bite mark on her arm.
The bite mark was a werewolf bite.
Caitlin didn't seem to remember getting this or notice it before, looking alarmed and confused.
--
Flashback
Day - Abattoir Compound - Courtyard
It was when the vampires had been swarming around Caitlin and everyone had been distracted in saving her.
Marcel was restraining Jerrick.
Jerrick bit Marcel on the arm.
Blood continued to seep into Caitlin's clothes.
--
Later
Marcel pulled Caitlin aside to talk alone, making sure that she was okay.
Caitlin was looking at their matching wolf bites. "Whoa, what the hell?" She looked at Marcel. "When did you..."
"During the fight," Marcel answered. "Jerrick got me after he tried to stake you. That's why you didn't notice it before."
"And we're going to die if we don't get Klaus's blood, Marcel," Caitlin told him.
"And I don't want you to worry about it right now, Caitlin," Marcel replied, compelling her. "So you're not going to tell anybody. You're gonna forget that we're bit until it's time for you to remember."
"And when is the time I'm supposed to remember?" Caitlin asked.
"When you're at home in the loft, when you're alone, and when you know that you can save us by getting to his blood," Marcel answered.
Caitlin looked at him in a daze due to the compulsion.
--
Now
Day - Marcel's Loft
Caitlin groaned, exhaling in anger. "Damn it, Marcel, stop compelling me." She walked toward the shelf where they kept Klaus's blood for cases like this, going through the shelf. She didn't find any vials left, searching more frantically. "Where's the blood?"
Caitlin realized that they had no more of Klaus' blood, giving up. She sighed, pulling out her phone, calling Davina, waiting for her to answer.
Auria and Davina were on the road, driving in Auria's car.
Davina was in the passenger seat, answering her phone. "Caitlin?"
"Hey, Davina, did you and Auria get to Klaus and Kassandra yet?" Caitlin asked.
Davina couldn't hear Caitlin over the static in the phone. "Caitlin? What did you say? I can't hear you."
Caitlin couldn't hear Davina over the static in the phone. "Davina? Auria? Are you there?"
"Cait?" Davina asked.
"D, Auria? can you hear me?" Caitlin asked. "Where are you? Marcel was bit, Davina. I need to know where you are so I can get to Klaus's blood and save both our asses."
The static overrode Caitlin's voice.
"Cait!" Davina told her. "We can't hear you."
Caitlin could only hear static. "Davina! Auria!"
Caitlin's phone started to spark. She pulled it away from her instantly in shock, letting the phone fall to the floor.
The phone broke at impact, but it continued to spark until it caught on fire.
Caitlin stomped on it until the fire was put out, breathing heavily in confusion. After a moment, she realized that had been because of magic, and the only witch that would do that was Finn, looking up in anger.

Worlds Colliding (The Originals)

Abattoir Compound - Upstairs Living Room
Marcel was pacing alone in the room, looking at the werewolf bite on his arm. He sighed impatiently, still suffering from the effects of Finn's extreme hunger spell. He looked at Mikaelson seal on one of the walls, which had a dragon eating an animal underneath the M. His vision started to blur. The werewolf venom caused him to be transported into a flashback.
--
Flashback - 1916
Day - Abattoir Compound - Upstairs Living Room
Marcel was standing in his Army uniform, looking at the same golden Mikaelson seal on the wall.
Klaus walked closer. "You are not leaving this bloody house, Marcel."
Marcel pulled out a folder letter, handing it to Klaus. "My enlistment papers say otherwise." Klaus furiously took the papers, skimming them. "369th Regiment. They call them the 'Harlem Hell Fighters'. Boat leaves tomorrow."
Klaus continued to read the papers for a moment. "Is this lunacy because I forbid you to be with Rebekah?" Marcel took the papers from him. "So, now you're going off to fight the Germans? Fine. Go. But remember, Marcel. This is your home. I am your family. And if you haven't learned that in the century since I took you in, then learn it now. Family are not just people who coddle you, who grant you your every whim. They are people who fight for you. Who you fight for. And if this family endeavors to stop you from making a tragic error of the heart, then by all means, express your discontent. But what you do not is abandon us." Marcel had been unable to look Klaus in the eye during his speech, but now he gave him a hard look. He silently reached down to pick up his bag, slinging it over his shoulder, walking toward the door. "Fine. Go. You'll be back." Marcel walked out, leaving. Klaus lowered his voice. "The prodigal son always returns home."
--
Now
Day - Abattoir Compound - Upstairs Living Room
Marcel came out of the past, pinching the bridge of his nose, clearly affected by the werewolf venom in his veins. "Come on, Caitlin."
Marcel noticed the sounds of his fellow vampires from outside the room, walking out.
--
Courtyard
Marcel walked onto the balcony, looking down to the ground floor.
Vampires were groaning from hunger, including Gia and Josh.
Noah was the only one remaining still and silent, still sitting on the couch. He was still angry at himself for trying to attack Caitlin. He noticed that Marcel was watching him, looking up.
Marcel sighed, muttering to himself. "Yeah, I'm home, all right. Last place I wanna be."
--
Study
Noah was sitting in the room alone.
The sound of church bells rang loudly throughout the Quarter.
Kaleb/Kol walked in. "What's with the church bells? It sounds like the preamble to my own bloody funeral."
"It's Carillon Eve," Noah told him. "The locals shroud the eyes of angels so the dead can walk among us for a night without judgment. The bells wake the dead and guide them to eternal rest. So, whether you live or die today, you can join the festivities."
Kaleb/Kol laughed without humor, nervous. "Oh, Noah. You're gonna make certain that I live. I'm the only one that knows how to find Rebekah.",
"That's because you underestimate how hungry I am, and how much I'd like to appease my hungry friends right outside that door," Noah told him.
Kaleb/Kol sat down on the couch across from Noah, casually stretching his legs out in front of him. "And just what would Caitlin say about that? I can see it in your eyes. The way you're torturing yourself for trying to hurt your one true love." Noah glared at him, unamused. "Caitlin, who happens to be Davina's best friend, and who doesn't want her best friend to get hurt. I'm not one to kiss and tell, obviously, but, uh, I think she likes me."
Noah stood. "Well, luckily for me, I don't. Keep running your mouth, Kol, and I'll drain you myself."
Noah walked out, leaving, closing the door so that Kaleb/Kol stayed inside the room and away from the vampires in the courtyard.
--
Hallway
Marcel was standing nearby the Mikaelson symbol on the wall, gazing off. His vision was blurry and swimming. He became very woozy.
The furniture changed to that of the mid-to-late 1910s.
A hallucination of Noah in a uniform walked closer.
Marcel looked at him in confusion. "Noah?"
Noah smiled. "Hey, Corporal."
--
Flashback - 1918
Sechault, France
Marcel, Noah and the rest of the Harlem Hell Fighters were deep in the trenches.
Shots were fired in their direction.
The soldiers were all covered in dirt and soot, quickly reloading their rifles.
Noah was crouched next to Marcel, noticing his daylight ring on his right hand. "You're a bit of a mystery."
Marcel seemed a bit alarmed, trying to play it cool. "I'm just another soldier like you, brother."
"Yeah?" Noah asked sarcastically. "Not just like me. See, I've been watching you." Marcel looked at him warily, not sure where the conversation was going. "Yeah. Now, I see you take bullets to the gut, then next minute, I see you pulling guys into the trench like nothing every happened. It's some mystery. With a mystery comes theories. I got two. One, you've got some guardian angels patching you up every time you get shot." Noah cocked his gun, ready to get back in the fight. "Two, you're something else all together."
Their major approached them in the trench. "Listen up, men! Headquarters said there aren't enough gas masks for the whole unit."
"Without masks?" Noah asked incredulously. "We're dead in hours."
"Have you forgotten what they call us?" the major asked. "We're the Brotherhood of the Damned, because we've been set up to fail. We can't hold fire. We're meant to starve, not stop the enemy."
Marcel was appalled, angry and incredulous. "Now, hold on, major. Our line has held longer than any line in the Western front. They call us the Brotherhood of the Damned because everyone here would rather be damned than let the enemy break this line. If you don't know that, then we need a leader who does!"
"Now, you listen here, private," the major told him.
The major was shot in the head.
Marcel pulled the major down, covering him from the impending gunfire. "Major!" He looked at the rest of the unit. "Get down!"
The rest of the men dove for cover.
Marcel stood above them, shielding them from the blasts.
The rest of the men looked at Marcel, impressed and confused.
Noah grabbed Marcel by the front of his uniform, pushing him back into the wall of the trench. "Listen here. I don't care what you are, or how you do what you do. But, I believe you're here for a reason." Marcel tried to walk away. Noah pushed him against the wall. "To be the leader you just talked about." Marcel looked at him in surprise. Noah nodded, letting him go, standing back, adjusting his helmet. "So, what's it going to be, Marcel?"
Marcel looked around to see the rest of the unit looking at him expectantly, waiting to see how he reacted. He considered his options for a moment.
--
Now
Day - Abattoir Compound - Hallway
Marcel was still lost in the past.
Noah walked closer, noticing that he was out of it. "Marcel? Marcel!" Marcel snapped out of it, realizing that Noah was looking at him in confusion. "You all right?"
Marcel nodded unconvincingly. "Yeah. Just hungry, that's all."
Marcel walked away, leaving.
Noah knew Marcel was in more trouble than that, worried and concerned.
--
St. Anne's Church
Klaus, Kassandra, Auria and Davina were in the church.
Auria and Davina were kneeling on the floor, setting up a magical circle with runes made out of salt on the floor in front of the first row of pews.
Klaus was standing still.
Kassandra was pacing in frustration in front of the sacristy.
"Haven't you found Finn yet?" Klaus asked. Auria and Davina ignored him, continuing to work on setting up for their spell. "I must say, for witches of your caliber, your spells are not particularly efficient."
Auria sighed in frustration. "Finn is blocking our locator spell. So, we're trying something new. But we need to concentrate, and it would help a lot if you would stop standing over us like a stalker. Go stand next to Kassandra or something."
"No need to get testy, love," Klaus told her. "And I may have angered my sister enough to where she wants to rip my head off."
"I wonder why," Kassandra told him sarcastically.
"Relax," Klaus told them. "We all have the same goal."
Auria lit a match, using it to light the candles in the circle. "Really? Because our goal is to get our boyfriends out of your house alive. Which seems to be about number ten on your list."
Auria blew out the match.
Klaus smirked. "Number nine, at least."
"What is wrong with you?" Kassandra asked in exasperation. "Kol is our brother, and Rebekah is our sister."
"Exactly," Klaus told her. "Our brother, who betrayed our sister, so I decided to punish him for it. Yes, I realized only after you told me the implications of what I did that I may have just murdered the only person who could tell us where Rebekah is, but we both know that Kol isn't exactly the brightest one in the bunch." Kassandra rolled her eyes. "How hard can it be to find out where Rebekah is? Auria, Davina, you might wanna get your villains straight, darlings." Auria gave him a look. "Because Finn is the architect of this fiasco. So, pick up the pace, find out where he's getting his power from, so we can stop it."
Auria raised her eyebrows at him.
Davina made a face.
Auria and Davina held their hands over the circle, taking the others, starting the spell. "We du le mon ennemi en temps. We du le mon ennemi en temps."
As they chanted, Auria got visions of Vincent/Finn, using Davina as an anchor in reality.
--
Lafayette Cemetery - Lyonne Tomb
Vincent/Finn was casting his own spell, leaning over a bowl of what looked like blood, having several objects, including a fox tail, a feather, and a deer antler, sitting on the table around him.
--
St. Anne's Church
Auria and Davina continued their spell while Klaus and Kassandra watched.
Auria opened her eyes. "I saw glimpses of him." Kassandra looked at them anxiously. "He's combining sacred objects. Totems. Representational magic."
"Where?" Kassandra asked.
Auria dove back into the vision, getting more flashes of Vincent/Finn working on his spell in the tomb. "Lafayette No. 1. The Lyonne tomb."
"And what's he using?" Kassandra asked.
Auria saw both Esther and Mikael lying desiccated in the middle of another salt circle, pulling out of the visions, looking at Klaus and Kassandra in shock. "He's channeling your parents."
Klaus smiled. "And here I thought we were the poster children for least grateful offspring."
Auria looked into the vision to see Vincent/Finn continuing his spell, about to place one of the sacred objects into the bowl of blood.
"Well, then," Kassandra told them. "Shall we go crash their little party?"
Kassandra walked toward the doors.
Auria and Davina stood, following.
Klaus followed.
--
Lafayette Cemetery - Lyonne Tomb
Vincent/Finn started to dip a lion paw into the bowl of blood.
--
St. Anne's Church
Kassandra stopped in her tracks, suddenly feeling weak, gasping for breath.
"Now who needs to pick up the pace?" Davina asked in annoyance.
Klaus looked at Kassandra in concern.
--
Lafayette Cemetery - Lyonne Tomb
Vincent/Finn lit a smudge stick, starting to wave it over the bowl, wafting the smoke over it.
--
St. Anne's Church
Kassandra fell unconscious.
Klaus rushed toward her, catching his sister as she fell. "Kassandra!"

Vincent/Finn took a deer antler, placing it in the bowl of blood, swishing it back and forth through the bowl's contents.

St. Anne's Church
Klaus was suddenly weak, gasping for breath, falling to the floor, letting Kassandra fall with him.
Auria and Davina ran closer. "Klaus? Kassandra?"

Mikaelson Safe House - Living Room
Elijah and Cami were sitting together.
Cami was trying to help him deal with the after-effects of Esther's torture. "Our goal here is to confront your subconscious. An element of my thesis is on suppression of past trauma and how it can manifest in a barren and often violent behavior."
Elijah smiled sarcastically. "You know, I believe it was 1897 when a dear friend of mine... let's just call him the godfather of modern psychoanalysis... mentioned something similar to me over tea in a Viennese cafe."
Cami chuckled. "Are you name-dropping Freud right now?" Elijah smirked, shrugging. "Okay, here's something I know that even Freud didn't."
"Oh, do tell," Elijah told her in amusement.
"What it feels like when someone takes away your deepest, ugliest pain without your consent," Cami told him. Elijah's smile fell when he realized what she was talking about. "It is both a blessed relief and a complete violation. Sound familiar?" Elijah looked at her, clearly not liking where this was going, remaining silent. "Good. Let's start with what you've referred to as the red door."
"That's an image from my past," Elijah told her quietly. "My youth. It was a door to a slaughterhouse. Sometimes it appears to me in, uh..." He gestured aimlessly, searching for the word. "In flashes. A memory, but it's also a metaphor. It's a place where unspeakable deeds dwell in darkness."
"And have there been many?" Cami asked.
Elijah was getting anxious, standing, starting to pace. "Oh, Camille, you know I'm no stranger to violence. Typically, however, I am possessed of a, uh, certain... control." He ran his fingers across the mantel over the fireplace, sighing, continuing on. "However, now and then, I can be consumed with chaos. And, untethered from that control... this is where the deeds are concealed. Behind that door."
"Why that particular door?" Cami asked.
"This is where the first woman I ever loved told me she loved me in return," Elijah answered. Cami smiled. "It's also where I laid her and her sister's bodies after I took their lives." Cami's smile fell. She looked at him sympathetically. "No one knows this. Not even Niklaus or Kassandra. My brother loved these two sisters as deeply as I did. Kassandra was best friends with them. They still believe Mother killed them. Not only is this a lie, it's a lie of my creation. And while my sister might forgive, but brother does not." Elijah sighed, visibly troubled by this memory. "He doesn't forget. Therefore, I think it's best that I forget for all of our sakes."

Abattoir Compound - Hallway
Noah, Josh and Gia were standing in a hallway nearby the courtyard.
"What the hell is wrong with Marcel?" Gia asked.
Josh shook his head. "I don't know. I can't even think straight, I'm so freaking hungry."
"We're all hungry," Noah told them.
Kaleb/Kol walked down the stairs.
Josh and Gia turned to look at Kaleb/Kol, practically salivating at the sight of him.
Gia started to walk toward him.
"You come anywhere near me, and I will give you a headache that will last a century," Kaleb/Kol told her.
"It'll be worth it," Gia told him, lunging toward Kaleb/Kol.
Noah held Gia back. "As much as I hate it, we need him alive. You really want the Mikaelsons to kill you for killing their brother?"
"His brother is the one that put him in here, Noah," Gia told him.
"Yeah, and they are the only ones who can mess with each other," Noah told her. "Anyone else does, they're dead. Back off."
Kaleb/Kol smirked. "Seems like you don't hate me as much as you say, there, Noah."
"Don't push me," Noah told him.
Kaleb/Kol shrugged.

Chambre De Chasse
Kassandra found herself in an astral plane, in a hunt room, in the middle of an old-fashioned wooden shed. She looked around, seeing Klaus, Elijah and Kaleb/Kol.
There were various animals mounted on the walls near the low ceiling.
"Niklaus," Elijah told them. "Kassandra. Kol."
"You three," Klaus told them.
"What the bloody hell is this?" Kassandra asked in annoyance.
Kaleb/Kol noticed the heads of the animals on the walls. "It's a chambre de chasse. A hunt room. It's where witches bring their prey for mental target practice. Our bodies are in the real world, lying dead on the floor, whilst our minds are in here, represented by these creepy animal heads."
"Let me take a wild guess as to who is the author of this nightmare," Kassandra told them. She raised her voice to shout. "Finn! Show yourself!"
Vincent/Finn walked into the room.
Klaus reached to grab his throat. He couldn't even touch him.
"Save your strength," Vincent/Finn told them calmly. "In here..." He gestured around the room. "I am untouchable. My magic, my rules. So, make yourselves at home. We're gonna be here for a while."

Reality
Marcel's Loft
Caitlin was getting ready to leave the loft because she couldn't call anyone, grabbing her leather jacket, pulling it out. She looked at the clock on the wall.
2:00
Caitlin turned toward the door, walking toward it.
Savannah Harris appeared in front of her, a hallucination caused by the wolf bite.
Caitlin stopped when she saw her mother there in front of her, in shocked denial. "Mom?"
Savannah smiled, brushing Caitlin's hair back behind her ear, caressing her cheek with her hand, surprising her when she felt the touch. "It's okay, sweetheart. I know what you're going through. It's okay."
Caitlin looked at her incredulously. "You tried to kill me. You were the reason the witches linked me to Marcel. You are the reason for all of this. This is all because of you. It's your fault."
Caitlin pushed her hand away.
"He deserves to die," Savannah told her. "You know that. You've said it. You tried to do it yourself, not just once, but repeatedly. You were ready to die, remember? You wanted to die."
"That was because I thought that he killed you in cold blood," Caitlin told her. "But now... I don't want to do that anymore. You failed. You and Dad failed in trying to kill me, and trying to get me to kill myself from beyond the grave."
"We were only trying to do what was the greater good, Caitlin," Savannah told her.
Caitlin was incredulously angry and despaired. "You were trying to kill me! Your only child. Your daughter. You tried to kill me."
"Every war has casualties," Savannah told her.
"But I'm not a casualty," Caitlin told her. "I'm your daughter."
"I know, honey," Savannah told her. "You're my daughter, and it hurts me to see you like this. Why should you go through all of this pain because of what me and your father did? Why should you be put in danger like this continuously? You don't deserve this. No one should have to go through this."
Caitlin looked at her with tears in her eyes. "I don't know what you want me to do."
"Yes," Savannah told her. "You do."
Savannah's caring and loving gaze turned to one of cold and expressionless.

Flashback - 1.22 "From a Cradle to a Grave"
Night - Lafayette Cemetery
It was the night when the Rubidoux coven, Savannah and David Harris had tried to kill Young Caitlin.
The spell came to an end.
Penelope Rubidoux opened her eyes. "The spell is complete. Time to die."
Young Caitlin cried in terror. "No! Dad! Stop! Please!" She struggled against the binds as Savannah circled around them to stand in front of them. David held the knife to her throat. Young Caitlin looked at Savannah. "Mom! Please! Don't do this!"
"I'm sorry, Caitlin," Savannah told her. "There's no choice."
Young Caitlin grew angry, still crying, looking around her parents and the witches. "Then you all can go to hell!"
Vampires rushed all around them, a select few. Thierry, Diego, Marcel, Noah, maybe five more than that.
David pulled the knife away from her throat in confusion.
Noah rushed up behind Penelope, snapping her neck.
The other vampires rushed up to the witches, biting, feeding, snapping their necks or ripping out their hearts.
The magic stopped.
Marcel looked up.
Young Caitlin breathed heavily, looking up.
Savannah looked at David. "David, now!"
David stabbed Young Caitlin in the back, making her scream, but he missed her heart.
Marcel gained a similar wound in his back, blood gathering in the same place.
Diego rushed up behind David, ripping out his heart.
Savannah seemed frightened yet angry, grabbing a blade, approaching her daughter to kill her.
Young Caitlin cringed back, crying.
Marcel rushed up behind Savannah, biting her on the neck, feeding until she died, letting her body fall.
Young Caitlin cried, looking at their bodies.
Marcel approached her. He compelled her. "I want you to forget everything that happened here. No one deserves this."

Aiden dropped nearly a dozen moonlight ring into a bowl on the picnic table in front of Hayley, Mikayla and Jackson. "Well, that's the last of them. Everyone out here is officially ring-free."
"And better off," Hayley told him.
"Easy for you to say," Aiden told her. "You're a hybrid. I'm back to turning every single full moon. And, if the wolves who are loyal to Finn come back here, they're gonna rip right through us." Mikayla and Jackson exchanged a look. "So, I gotta ask. When is this wedding?"
"Ten days," Mikayla answered. "After that, my power is your power. The full moon won't control you anymore." Jackson nodded in agreement. "Spread the word. Any wolf who wants in needs to be here to bear witness to the wedding."
"Yeah, I can do that," Aiden told them. "What are you guys gonna do?"
Jackson smiled. "We're going to meet an Elder." Mikayla looked at him in confusion. "We need an old-school Crescent wolf to conduct the wedding. Then, there are the trials."
"Trials?" Hayley repeated. "And what kind of trials are we talking about here?"
"We say a few oaths, do some trust falls, smoke a little blue calamus root out of a peace pipe," Jackson answered. He looked at Mikayla reassuringly. "Piece of cake."
Jackson smiled.
Mikayla chuckled.
"Well, good luck with that," Aiden told them, walking away, leaving.
Hayley turned to face Mikayla and Jackson. "Any idea where we can find an Elder?"
Jackson smiled. "Well, that depends. You got any interest in meeting my grandma?"
Mikayla smiled, rolling her eyes.
Hayley smiled, genuinely happy for both of them. "Mikayla, Jackson, you guys go have fun, take care of whatever it is you need to take care of. I'll go see if Klaus or Kassandra need any help."
Mikayla nodded. "Okay. Good luck, Hayley. Tell Klaus and Kassandra good luck too."
"You, too," Hayley told them, walking away, leaving.
Mikayla and Jackson watched her go.

St. Anne's Church
Klaus and Kassandra were still passed out on the floor.
Davina knelt next to them, slapping Klaus across the face in an effort to wake him. "Wake up!" She slapped him. "Wake up." She sighed in annoyed frustration, sitting back. "The one time I need you."
Klaus' phone rang.
Auria pulled it out of his pocket to see that Cami was calling, answering. "Cami?"
Cami was in the safe house, holding a crying Hope, standing over an unconscious Elijah. She was confused. "Auria? Why are you answering Klaus' phone?"
Auria sighed. "Because Davina and I can't wake him or Kassandra up."
"What?" Cami asked in concern. "Elijah collapsed, too. What's going on?"
Auria suddenly got a dawning realization about what was happening, groaning. "I'm an idiot. The spell Finn used was to trap his siblings..."
Davina sighed in realization. "Meaning Kol's in trouble."
"What do we do?" Cami asked.
Auria put a hand over her lips, overwhelmed. "I have no idea."

Chambre De Chasse
Klaus, Kassandra and Kaleb/Kol were still trapped with Vincent/Finn.
Vincent/Finn looked at Klaus. "At the very least, this prison is a bit more comfortable than the box you held me in for... almost nine hundred years." He looked at their sister. "How about you, Kassandra? Do you like this hunt room better than you liked your coffin that you were in for five centuries?"
Kassandra ignored him, gesturing to the walls. "The heads are a nice touch. It's obvious considering how us Mikaelsons are symbolized. Let me guess." She pointed to the wolf head hanging behind her. "Nik is the big, bad wolf." She pointed to the fox head. "Kol, the wily fox." She pointed to the stag head. "Elijah is the noble stag." She pointed to the lion head. "I am the fierce yet loyal lioness." She pointed at the boar head. "And you, fittingly enough, are the boar. Bit obvious, as far as symbolism goes." She looked at Vincent/Finn. "Why are we here?" She held up a finger. "Don't tell me. It's about Mother. I didn't force her to drink blood and betray everything she holds dear. That was her choice."
"This isn't about Mother," Vincent/Finn told them. "This is about you. I want you to know how to feels to be powerless. So, I'm going to take the thing that matters most to you. The city you've come to love so much."
"Are we quite done here?" Elijah asked. "You will release us now."
"I will," Vincent/Finn told them. "After sundown. Because at sundown, when the marchers of Carillon Eve take to the streets, my barrier spell drops. Marcel, Noah and their hungry vampires will be unleashed to kill their way through the Quarter. I imagine that, after their atrocities, the supernatural community of New Orleans will be forced to find another place to call home."
"Look, I don't care about the city," Kaleb/Kol told him. "What I care about is that my very human body is lying at the feet of some very hungry vampires." He pointed at Klaus, Elijah and Kassandra. "Your fight is with them, it's not with me."
"All you care about is your own fragile mortality," Vincent/Finn told him. "But, what if you were made vulnerable? What then?"
Vincent/Finn flicked his wrist.
Kaleb/Kol's tensed. His nose started to bleed. He wiped it away.

Reality
Abattoir Compound - Downstairs Living Room
Kaleb/Kol's body had been laid on the couch.
Noah, Gia and Josh were standing nearby.
Kaleb/Kol's nose started to bleed.
Gia and Josh began salivating at the smell of his blood, transforming, lunging toward his unconscious body.
Noah held them both back. "Easy, easy. If you start feeding, you won't be able to stop." Josh and Gia continued to growl and hiss their attempts to feed on Kaleb/Kol. Noah snapped his fingers in their faces. "All right? Look at me. You can fight through it." Josh and Gia were still struggling to stay in control, but Noah was starting to get through to them. "We are gonna fight this hunger together."
Josh and Gia both started to back away.
Noah sighed, relaxing.
Marcel was watching them from the doorway. He was woozy from his werewolf bite. He closed his eyes briefly to regain his strength. He opened his eyes. He saw Hallucination!Noah, in the uniform, in the place of Real!Noah. He was transported back in flashback.

Flashback - 1918
Sechault, France
Day - Trench
Noah was sitting in the trench away from the rest of the unit, watching Marcel.
Marcel poured powder into the steel mugs of the rest of the men. He walked toward Noah, filling his. "No gas masks or rations, but we got plenty of coca."
"More dirt than cocoa, but it'll do," Noah told him. Marcel set his mug down on the ground. "Marcel? I know you're starving."
Marcel looked at Noah.
Noah rolled up his sleeve, offering his arm to Marcel.
Marcel shook his head, gently pushing his arm back toward him. "Never one of us. Especially not you, Noah. Catch me a German, and then we'll talk."
Noah and Marcel exchanged a smirk.
A soldier ran over to them. "Corporal!" Marcel looked at him. The soldier saluted him. "You're needed back at headquarters, sir."
Marcel nodded, patting Noah on the shoulder, standing, walking away.
Noah watched him go.

Headquarters
(Song:) Back to My Old Hometown - Jack Norworth
Marcel walked into a text to find a gramophone player playing jazz music and a table full of fancy food, including a roast pig with an apple in its mouth.
Marcel turned to the desk.
Klaus sat at the table with two young women standing on either side of him.
Marcel looked at him incredulously for the exquisite meal on display while his troops were starving and fighting for their lives.
Klaus turned to face Marcel, holding a battle helmet in his hand. "Hate the war. Love the hats."
Marcel sighed in annoyance. "What are you doing here?"
"Well, you left before such a delicious meal," Klaus told him. "I thought I'd bring you dessert." He gestured to the women on either side of him. The women stepped closer to Marcel, baring their necks to him. Marcel struggled to resist feeding on them, glaring at Klaus. "Oh, go on. You know you want to. Have your fill." Marcel transformed, about to bite one of the girls' neck. "And then, come home to New Orleans."
Marcel immediately stopped, returning to normal, looking at Klaus angrily. He backed away from the girls, walking toward the door. "I have to get back to my men."
Klaus stood, walking toward Marcel. "Your men? Don't be bloody ridiculous, Marcel. Let the food fight amongst themselves if you must, but make no mistake. Your place is at home with your family."
"You once told me that family are the place that you fight for, and those willing to fight for you," Marcel told him. "So, you go home, Klaus. I am with family."
Marcel put his helmet on, walking out of the tent, leaving Klaus alone.

Now
Day - Abattoir Compound - Study
Marcel was looking even worse, having a thin sheen of sweat over his skin, zoned out, starting to walk toward Noah, Josh and Gia.
"Hey," Gia told him. "Hey, are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Marcel told them, holding his arm.
Noah rolled his eyes, unconvinced, grabbing Marcel's arm, pushing up his sleeve to reveal the werewolf bite.
Marcel pulled his arm away.
They looked at Marcel in worry.
"Oh, my God," Josh told him.
"Is that a werewolf bite?" Gia asked.
"It's a scratch," Marcel told them.
"It's a bite," Noah told him. "You're six ways to dead if you or Caitlin don't get Klaus's blood in you." He pointed toward the courtyard, where the rest of the vampires were congregating, all of whom looked just as miserable as the four of them were. "And when those guys find out?"
"Well, they're not gonna find out," Marcel told them. "Which means..." He stumbled for a moment, regaining his composure, pointing at Noah and Gia. "You're gonna keep your mouths shut about this." He pointed at Josh. "And you're gonna shut yours, period."
Noah gave Marcel a look, sighing. "Why didn't you tell me that you and Caitlin were dying?"
"Because Caitlin's gonna find the blood and heal the both of us by getting it in her system," Marcel answered.
"Why didn't Caitlin say anything about it?" Noah asked.
"Because I compelled her not to remember or notice the bite until she was alone," Marcel answered.
Noah sighed, shaking his head. "She's gonna be pissed at you."
"A risk worth taking if we both make it out of this alive, Noah," Marcel replied.
The sound of church bells rings loudly came from out on the street outside the compound. They could hear people outside marching down the street.
Marcel held his stomach, overwhelmed by hunger and werewolf venom.
Gia turned to Noah. "You hear that? That's the sound of food that we can't even get near while you're sitting here protecting that idiot."
Gia pointed at Kaleb/Kol, who was still lying unconscious on the couch.
"It is just hunger, Gia," Noah told her. "Lots of people on Earth have been a lot hungrier than us."
"You made us a promise when you turned us," Gia told them. "You had goals we bought into. But look at us. We've been wolf-bait, beaten up, stuck exiled across the river, then stuck here." She looked at Marcel. "And now, when we're all looking to you for help, you don't even tell us that you're dying." Marcel opened his mouth to speak. Gia cut him off in frustration. "You're supposed to be our leader, but right now, you suck at it."
Church bells and hand bells continued to ring from outside.

Courtyard
Noah walked out to the balcony overlooking the courtyard.
Down below, the vampires who had just been joined by Gia and Josh, had all moved toward the entrance, where they were all standing in a crowd, overwhelmed by hunger and the sight of the humans right outside. They were all transforming, growling, dying of anticipation.
Marcel joined Noah on the balcony.
Hallucination!Noah in the Army uniform appeared on the other side of Marcel. "We don't all get to get out of this alive."
Marcel looked from Noah to Hallucination!Noah on either side of him, sighing, shaking his head.

The French Quarter
Caitlin was walking through the crowd on the street, pushing through the parade. She was getting weaker as a result of the wolf bite.
Savannah was walking alongside her in her hallucination. "Just give up, Caitlin."
"Shut up," Caitlin told her in annoyance.
"You don't want this," Savannah told her.
Caitlin ignored her, turning into an alley.
David Harris appeared in front of her. "Why would you want this, Caitlin?"
Caitlin stopped in surprise. "Dad." She sighed heavily, wiping the sweat from her head. "Of course I would see you. If I see Mom, it's not a family reunion without seeing Dad." She looked away, scoffing. "God, I'm going crazy."
David stepped closer. "You've stopped your mission to join us in peace and decided to stay in a city plagued with monsters. You even fell in love with one, Caitlin." Caitlin glared at David in annoyance for the mention of Noah, tears in her eyes. "You've past the point of going crazy."
Caitlin shook her head hopelessly, turning around to face Savannah. "Just go away."
"We'll only go away if you'll go away with us," Savannah told her.
Caitlin shook her head. "That's never gonna happen."
David stabbed Caitlin in the back, making her gasp in pain, pulling the blade out.
Caitlin turned to face her father, looking at the knife in his hand. She felt along her back. She didn't feel any wound. She didn't feel any blood. She backed away, looking toward her mother, breathing heavily.
"Come with us, Caitlin," David told her.
"It's the only way you'll be happy," Savannah told her.
Caitlin heard so many voices, from the flashback of the night when the coven had linked her to Marcel, their chanting voices, Savannah telling David to kill her, and Marcel saying that 'No one deserves this'. She held her head, exasperated and overwhelmed, closing her eyes. She slammed her hands down to her sides. "Get out of my head!"
Caitlin opened her eyes. She looked surprised, looking around, turning around.
The hallucination of her parents had disappeared.
Caitlin sighed in relief.
Hayley walked into the alley. "Caitlin? What are you doing out here in the open like this after what happened? You should be at home." Caitlin sighed, woozy, dizzy and weaker, nearly collapsing. Hayley caught Caitlin in her arms, helping her stand, looking at her worriedly in concern. "Whoa. Hey. Are you okay?"
"No," Caitlin answered. "I need to find Klaus. Where is he?"
Hayley looked at Caitlin worriedly.

Auria and Davina were still kneeling next to the unconscious Klaus and Kassandra, trying different spells to wake them up to no avail.

Chambre De Chasse
Klaus, Kassandra and Kaleb/Kol were still trapped with Vincent/Finn.
Kaleb/Kol looked at Vincent/Finn. "Okay. Point made. Now, nobody loves a joke like old fox boy here, but if you could just get me back to my body..."
"I must confess, I rather enjoy watching you twist in the wind," Elijah told him, pulling a handkerchief out of his pocket, handing it to Kaleb/Kol. "Not unlike the way you left Rebekah, I imagine."
Kaleb/Kol used the cloth to wipe the blood from his nose.
Vincent/Finn pointed at Elijah. "Yes." He looked at Kaleb/Kol. "What did you do to Rebekah?"
"For goodness sake, it was a joke," Kaleb/Kol told them. "Look, if you could just get me back to my body, I will tell anybody anything they need to know."
Vincent/Finn rolled his eyes, raising his hand toward Kaleb/Kol, causing another pain infliction spell, hurting him enough to make him stop talking. He laughed. "How narrow-minded of me. Rebekah." He looked at Klaus, Elijah and Kassandra. "You don't know where she is, and the only thing standing between you and our sister is this selfish fool." He looked at Kaleb/Kol. "Maybe it's time for you to go enjoy the rest of your mortal life while you still can."
Vincent/Finn made a fist with his hand, using magic to send Kaleb/Kol back into his body.
Klaus, Elijah and Kassandra looked at Vincent/Finn, startled and confused.

Abattoir Compound - Study
Kaleb/Kol was still on the couch, his gasp of surprise altering the vampires to his return to consciousness.
The vampires all swarmed around him, about to attack.
Kaleb/Kol looked anxious, sheepish. "Is it too late for an apology?"
The vampires lunged toward Kaleb/Kol.
Noah rushed toward Kaleb/Kol, grabbing him, rushing him into another room.
--
Locked Room
Noah rushed in with Kaleb/Kol, pushing him away, closing and locking the door behind him.
"Thanks, Noah," Kaleb/Kol told him.
"You're lucky I'm the only one who can control my hunger today," Noah told him.
"Then all you have to do is hold it together just for a little while longer," Kaleb/Kol told him, nervously pointing out of the window, where the sun was rapidly setting in the horizon. "A few minutes, to be exact."
Noah frowned suspiciously. "What are you talking about?"
"Finn," Kaleb/Kol answered. "He plans to release the lot of you at sundown."
Noah realized the implications, angrily starting to pace. "The streets will be jam-packed with people right outside the gate."
"And you'll be half-crazed with hunger," Kaleb/Kol told him. "You'll feed your way through the crowd, and that will be the end of vampires secretly living off the fat of New Orleans." Noah glared at him. "You are outmaneuvered and outmanned. We're not going to get out of this alive."
"No," Noah told him in determination. "We are all getting out of this alive."

Bayou
Mikayla and Jackson walked through the woods on their way to meet Jackson's grandmother.
Mikayla sighed. "Are we hiking to Baton Rouge?"
Jackson chuckled. "Just a little bit farther. You nervous?"
"I'm not nervous," Mikayla answered. "Although, I should be. She is your grandmother."
Jackson smiled. "Huh. She usually likes the girls I bring home."
Mikayla feigned offense playfully. "Oh, really? Hmm... exactly how many girls have you brought to meet her?"
Jackson laughed. "No, I've never brought anyone to meet her." Mikayla looked at him in surprise. "So, you've gotta make a good impression, since she's got no one crazy to compare you with."
Mikayla smiled. "Now I might be a little nervous."
Jackson chuckled.
Jackson's grandmother walked closer, holding a basket full of herbs and plants in her hand. "Cute as all this is, y'all are late."
"Grandma Mary," Jackson told her, hugging Mary, kissing her on the cheek, turning to face his fiance. "This is Mikayla."
Mikayla smiled. "Mary, it's so nice to meet you."
Mary held up a hand. "You can turn off your old-people charm now." Mikayla let the smile fade. "The two of you are late, and we need to get started."
Mikayla nodded awkwardly. "Right." She cleared her throat. "So, yes, we have pre-martial rituals to attend to. Which are what, exactly?"
"Fasting, purification, the rite of divulgement, to name a few," Mary answered.
"The rite of what?" Mikayla asked.
"Oh, it's simple," Mary told her. "You speak the truth, he speaks the truth, secrets are cleansed. Everyone's happy."
Mikayla realized that the biggest secret she had was a niece named Hope still being alive, knowing that she couldn't tell anyone the truth yet, looking at Jackson, slightly alarmed. "What do you mean, secrets are cleansed?"
"The two Alphas smoke the root of the blue calamus flower," Mary told her. "It links your hearts and minds together. The ceremony won't take if there are lies separating you. This way, there are none. It's most important ritual apart from the wedding ceremony itself." She smiled, patting Mikayla on the arm. "Pray you don't have too many skeletons in your closet."
Mary started to lead them to her home.
Jackson started to follow.
Mikayla stayed where she was. She knew that she couldn't tell the truth, but she hated to bow down now. "I'm... not doing that." They looked at Mikayla in confusion. Mikayla looked at Jackson in regret. "I'm sorry. I can't."
Mikayla turned around, walking away, leaving.
Jackson watched her go in confusion.

Chambre De Chasse
Klaus, Kassandra and Elijah were still trapped with Vincent/Finn.
Vincent/Finn seemed pleased. "So, what shall we talk about while we wait for nightfall?" He faked a gasp. "Oh, I know. Let's talk about our parents."
"You know, I figured you wouldn't be kind to Mother, but imagine my surprise to learn that Mikael met the same fate," Klaus told him. "Bravo, brother."
"You see, the parent I was interested in talking about was your father," Vincent/Finn told him. "Your real one. I mean, you longed to know hi your whole life, and yet at the first opportunity, you murdered him. Why, I wonder?"
Klaus approached him. "Possibly the same reason you took out Esther. Severing parental ties has a way of freeing one to recognize one's true potential."
"Quite," Vincent/Finn agreed. "But, Esther was no fool. She pinpointed your wants, and knowing your true father was at the top of the list." He mimicked the sound of killing someone. "No, something else occupies the top of your list of affections. And it's not your favorite city." He patted Klaus on the back, startling him. Klaus turned to face Vincent/Finn, standing within inches of him. "Because I'm about to take that from you, using your own vampires, and I barely get a rise out of you. I thought maybe it was Rebekah, but you remain calm, even when the one who knows her fate probably just met his."
"I am fighting the monumental urge to mount your severed head upon one of these walls," Kassandra told him.
Vincent/Finn ignored her. "And then, I thought it was your favorite brother, but Mother broke him into a thousand pieces, and rather than fix him, you and Kassandra left him to fend for himself God knows where. Then I thought that you were trying to get a handle of our volatile sister, yet we all know that Kassandra is ruthless when it comes to anyone but her family. That's what makes her the lioness." He pointed at the lion head on the wall. "Kassandra is fierce, loyal and protective of her family, but when it comes to civilians, she will rip them apart as if they're nothing more than vermin." Kassandra rolled her eyes. "And that's the only thing that she cares about. Her family. Which is more than can be said for you, Niklaus. You know, if I didn't know better, I'd say you were hiding something from me. Something big. Something dark. Maybe your real father found out what it was, and you had to kill him."
Klaus looked at Vincent/Finn furiously. "You want to know why I killed my father?"
"Yeah," Vincent/Finn answered.
"Because when blood relations let me down, I don't stop to reason with them," Klaus told him. "I remove them."
"So, the secret is there is no secret?" Vincent/Finn asked. "You long for nothing, care for no one?" Klaus smiled. "The problem is, brother, I don't believe you. It's clear to me that you're hiding something. And, as I control your presence here, we've got all the time in the world to figure out just what that might be."
Vincent/Finn walked away.
Elijah and Kassandra kept their expressions free of any reaction.
Klaus looked both furious and terrified of Vincent/Finn learning the truth about Hope.

Bayou
Mikayla was walking alone in the woods.
Jackson chased after her. "Mikayla. Mikayla! Mikayla, wait."
Mikayla turned to face him. "I can't do it, Jack."
"You're not the only one who has stuff they'd rather not talk about," Jackson told her.
"Some of my secrets aren't mine to tell," Mikayla told her.
"Maybe a little honesty is a good thing," Jackson told her.
"Jack, I live with the Original family," Mikayla told him. "In that family, sometimes honesty... can get you killed."
Jackson looked stunned and confused for a moment, shaking it off. "We all have things we hope will never see the light of day. You probably won't like what I have to say any more than what you're holding back."
"I wish that were true," Mikayla told him.
"Come back with me," Jackson told her. "We'll take it one step at a time. And if anything makes you uncomfortable, you tell me, and we stop. And when it comes time to open up, I'll go first. Because I don't run. And I don't scare easy. Your secrets are my secrets. Your demons are my demons. And you'll never have to fight them alone. I promise you that." Mikayla was still torn, closing her eyes, taking a deep breath. "Please."
Mikayla opened her eyes, looking up at Jackson. "I need to make a call. I need to ask something of someone close to me. And then I'll be there."
Jackson nodded understandingly.

Abattoir Compound - Courtyard
Josh was walking around the crowd of the vampires and insisting that they relaxed, but everyone looked anxious and weak from starvation.
Marcel was standing on the balcony.
Noah walked toward Marcel.
Gia looked up at Noah from below. "I'm gonna give you two minutes to explain why we don't come up there and take the witch. Noah, you do everything Marcel tells you, and he lied to us. He betrayed everything that both of you taught us. How can he lead us?"
Noah was speechless.
Marcel was lost in thought.

Flashback - 1918
Sechault, France
Night - Trenches
Poisonous gas bombs were going off all across the battlefield.
Marcel returned to the trenches to see that everyone in the unit was either dead or dying from exposure to the gas. He started checking on each of the men in turn. "No!" The first man he checked on was coughing up blood. The others were in similar states. Marcel made his way down toward where Noah was holding one of the limited gas masks to his mouth, and one to a dying soldier next to him. "Noah."
"We never did get all of the gas masks," Noah told him. "It's not enough to save everyone."
"I'm sorry," Marcel told him, panicked and guilt-ridden. "I failed you, brother."
"Not if you make them into vampires like you," Noah told him. "Let's make this fight more even. Turn them."
Marcel looked around frantically.
All of the men were coughing and dying in the trench.
After a moment, Marcel realized that Noah was right, biting into his wrist, feeding the soldier next to them his blood.

Now
Day - Abattoir Compound - Courtyard
The vampires were getting more restless.
Marcel and Noah stood on the balcony.
Marcel looked around the crowd of vampires. "Hey! I'm sorry I let you down, okay?" He looked at Noah. "All of you." He looked around all of them. "But, the way that you are feeling right now, this despair? This hunger? We have been through it, and if you let us help you survive it, I guarantee you, it will only make you stronger."
"At sundown, Vincent's gonna drop that barrier spell right there, and those doors are gonna open, and we are gonna be smack in the middle of a parade of innocent people," Noah told them. "We can't fall apart now!"
"Innocent, guilty..." Gia trailed off, obviously not caring. "We're hungry. We have to feed!"
"We don't feed on locals," Marcel told them. "That's our rule. That's how we've survived three hundred years in this city, and that is why we get to call it home. Because we live by a code."
"The same one that won't let you tell your own people that you're dying of a werewolf bite?" Gia asked.
The crowd of vampires began chattering amongst themselves about this revelation.
Marcel rushed in their way of the entrance to the compound. "I'm not dying of anything! Caitlin is right across the river, getting help from the hybrid himself to get his blood, and across that river, I've got enough blood to satisfy all of you. All we have to do is get there."
Noah walked down the steps toward them. "You want to know what we're fighting for? I'm fighting for this city, for our home. But if we feed out there, we lose it. The barrier will be down any moment now." He stopped on the other side of the crowd of vampires, looking at Marcel. "Let me help you get home." Marcel nodded barely, breathlessly. The church bells began to ring again, just as the sun went down, darkening the streets. They all turned their attention to the front entrance. Kaleb/Kol walked out onto the balcony, hiding in the shadows so he could watch what happened curiously. Noah walked toward the doorway, holding up his hand, expecting to be burned by the boundary spell, but it passed through painlessly. Noah turned back to the vampires, all of whom were trying their best to keep themselves in control. "It's down. Let's go."
Noah turned around, leading all of the vampires out of the compound into the Quarter.
Kaleb/Kol was impressed, watching as all of the vampires walked out of the compound and into the street.

The French Quarter
Caitlin and Hayley were walking through the Quarter.
Caitlin was looking worse, weaker than she was before, barely able to stay standing, let alone to stay walking.
Hayley noticed that Caitlin was about to collapse again, grabbing her arm to keep her standing. "Caitlin, it's okay. We're almost there."
"Where's 'almost there'?" Caitlin asked.
"St. Anne's Church," Hayley answered. Her phone rang. She pulled it out, seeing it was Mikayla calling, answering. "Hey, Mikayla, I've been getting your texts. I'm sorry I haven't been answering. I'm trying to save Caitlin's life. So, the only way for this to work is to tell Jackson every little thing? Like facts about me and the Original family?"
Hayley was careful not to go into details with Caitlin right there.
"Yeah," Mikayla answered. "That's..." She was standing in the woods of the bayou alone, sighing, looking down. "That's why I called. To tell you that I couldn't do it."
"Yes, you can," Hayley told her.
Mikayla looked up in surprise. "What?"
"I'm tired of keeping this secret, Mikayla," Hayley told her. "If you go through with this, there is no more reason for lies and secrets, and we can go home. The wolves could protect all of us."
Mikayla hesitated. "Are you sure about this, Hayley?"
"I'll be there soon, Mikayla, all right?" Hayley asked. "Just go through with whatever you're planning to go through until I get there. Okay?"
Mikayla sighed, reassured, nodding. "Yeah. Okay."
Mikayla hung up, thinking for a long moment, tapping her phone against her hand, turning around, walking away.
Caitlin continued to walk in the Quarter, stumbling through the crowd, nearly falling.
Hayley caught Caitlin as she fell, helping her navigate through the parade toward the church. "All right, Caitlin. Here we go."

Chambre De Chasse
Klaus, Kassandra and Elijah were trapped with Vincent/Finn. They were all seated in their own chairs.
Vincent/Finn was still trying to bait Klaus into exposing his secret. "It's a shame, really, for you to lose New Orleans. You've worked so hard to make this city a home. On the other hand, this city hasn't given you much in the way of good fortune. You have Marcel's betrayal, Father's attack, the loss of your child..."
Elijah looked at Klaus and Kassandra worriedly.
Klaus and Kassandra were careful not to react.
"It is a delicate craft," Elijah told them. Vincent/Finn looked at him in confusion. "Representational magic. One must be ever so precise. If you misrepresent us, the very enchantment that this room was built upon would collapse, would it not?"
Kassandra looked at Elijah, curious as to where he was going with this.
"I assure you, you have not been misrepresented," Vincent/Finn told them.
"Well, that depends upon how well the hunter knows his prey,' Elijah told him, pointing to himself. He stood, looking at the stag head mounted above him. "This facade, this illusion that I have created over the course of my life. The noble stag. It is nothing more than a deception. To myself. To everyone." He turned to Klaus and Kassandra. "If I were a truly noble brother, I would not withheld from you a vile deed. One that I, like a coward, allowed Mother to erase from my memory." Klaus and Kassandra looked at him in confusion. "It was I who killed Tatia and Clara." Klaus was stunned. Kassandra was speechless. The room started to shake and warp. Elijah flickered in and out of focus. "I hunted them down, and mercilessly, I feasted upon their flesh. I tore them from us. Mother took the blame." Elijah looked at Klaus and Kassandra in regret and self-loathing. "Brother, I felt certain if you knew, you would in no way forgive me."
Elijah looked disgusted and ashamed of himself.
Klaus looked at him in shock.
Kassandra looked at him sadly.
"The act may be reprehensible, but your admitting to it proves you to be the man I thought you to be," Vincent/Finn told him. gesturing around them. "My magic stands."
"Does it?" Klaus asked, smiling weakly. "It turns out my brother is even more depraved than I am." Elijah looked at him with tears in his eyes. Vincent/Finn looked alarm. Kassandra looked them curiously. Klaus stood, looking at the heads on the walls. "He is the noble stag no longer. Indeed, another altogether different beast is creeping through the cracks. And you have failed in your representation of me, because there is one thing you have never thought be capable of." He turned to Elijah, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Forgiveness."
The room began to shake.
Klaus flickered in and out of focus.
Kassandra smirked, standing. "You call me the merciless lioness, the one who only cares for her family. If I was truly merciless to everyone but, I would have killed the ones that have stood against us since the first day we returned to New Orleans. Davina, Marcel, Noah, Caitlin, Auria. Not to mention the ones that had stood against us in our very hometown of Mystic Falls, but most of them remain alive, though most of what they did to us, and what we did to them, was because of our old friend/enemy Rosalita. How in fact, that I had come to care for Kaylin and Nicola Salvatore, and Eliza Forbes, as friends to the family, even rooting for them to be with my brothers." Vincent/Finn looked scared for the first time that they had entered the room. "And if I only cared for my family, then why did our parents' betrayal of killing someone to get to me, to harm me, actually hurt, even in the slightest?" The room started to violently shake. Kassandra flickered in and out of focus. "You see? I do care for more than the ones that are in my family. You, Finn, have remained a boar for centuries, but here is where your true fault lies. You never learnt that the bonds of family far outweigh anything else. Such bonds trump petty jealousies. They overcome ancient feuds. And, yes, they are capable of allowing one monster to pardon the great sins of another. And, yes, they are able to care about their own wants and their own needs outside their family."
Kassandra looked at the lion head on the wall.
The lion head went up in flames.
Vincent/Finn was startled, standing instantly.
Klaus looked at the wolf head on the wall.
The wolf head went up in flames.
Elijah looked at the stag head on the wall.
The stag head went up in flames.
The room began to shake ultra violently
"How is this possible?" Vincent/Finn asked in disbelief.
"Your magic is as flawed as your perception of your own siblings," Kassandra told him. "I wonder. Just how untouchable are you now?"
Kassandra walked toward Vincent/Finn.
Vincent/Finn disappeared, releasing the spell.

Auria and Davina were still kneeling next to Klaus and Kassandra's unconscious bodies.
Hayley helped Caitlin walk inside. "Auria, Davina. A little help here."
Auria saw how weak and pale Caitlin looked, standing instantly, walking toward her worriedly, protectively. "Oh, my God. Caitlin, what the hell is happening?"
"Marcel was bit," Caitlin answered. "I need Klaus's blood."
Davina nodded. "Just hang on, okay?"
Hayley helped Caitlin walk closer.
Klaus and Kassandra gasped awake.
Hayley sighed in relief. "Just in time. We need a little help."
Klaus and Kassandra sat up, looking at Caitlin.

The French Quarter
Noah was leading the vampires, most of whom were leaning on each other for support, through the streets of the Quarter, which were full to the brim with people celebrating Carillon Eve.
Many of the locals were giving the vampires weird looks, since they were all sweaty and pale and generally looking strung-out as they used all of their self-control and focus in order to keep from feeding on the humans around them.

Marcel continued his speech to the soldiers. "But you are in control." Noah walked up behind Marcel, looking proud. "It is your greatest weapon, and the Germans are coming over that hill, thinking to waltz over our corpses to take the town. But that's not gonna happen, because one thing stands in the enemy's way. Us!" Many of the soldiers transformed, growling in anticipation. "And make no mistake."

Marcel struggled to stand and keep walking, just as weak as Caitlin was. He continued to get weaker and weaker the farther they walked down the streets of the Quarter. He stumbled, losing footing.

Klaus knelt next to Caitlin, biting his wrist, putting it to Caitlin's lips, making her drink his blood.
Caitlin slowly started to wake up, realizing that she was lying on the floor with her head in Auria's lap.
Auria was stroking Caitlin's hair.
Klaus took his hand away.
Davina was kneeling on the other side of Caitlin, across from Klaus.
Hayley and Kassandra stood at Caitlin's feet.
Kassandra smiled a small smile. "Welcome back, fighter. My brother and I just woke up ourselves. You're healed along with Marcel. You'll be fine, Caitlin."
Caitlin sighed in relief.
Auria helped Caitlin sit up.
Davina and Auria wrapped their arms around Caitlin in relief.
Klaus stood. "The same, however, cannot be said for your friends and the people of the French Quarter. Now, we can stand here and explain to all of you the specifics, or you can show a little trust and come with us."
Davina and Auria helped Caitlin stand.
Hayley shrugged. "Caitlin's the one that risked her life looking for you guys, and Auria and Davina are the ones that were waiting for you to wake you asses up. Let's go."
Caitlin walked past them. "I need to find Marcel and kick his ass, anyway."
Davina and Auria smiled, following Caitlin.
Klaus, Kassandra and Hayley exchanged a look, following.

The French Quarter
Klaus, Kassandra, Hayley, Auria, Caitlin and Davina walked outside into the parade of marchers, stopping to see if anything bad had happened.
"Everything's fine out here," Davina told them. "Where the hell are they?"
"You look around," Auria told her. "I'll take Caitlin back to the loft and see if they're there."
Kassandra nodded in agreement. "We'll see if we can track them down."
Klaus, Kassandra and Hayley walked away, further into the crowd.
Auria turned to Caitlin, putting her arm around her. "Come on. Let's get you home."
Davina grabbed Caitlin's arm. "No. Wait for me."
Caitlin gave her a look, looking toward the crowd. "I'm not sure I'm the one that you wanna be with right now."
"Like hell," Davina told her. "Why wouldn't I be with my best friend after she almost died?"
"Because I'll be fine with Auria, and your boyfriend almost died today, too, and he's right over there," Caitlin answered.
Davina followed her gaze toward Kaleb/Kol. She smiled in relief. She turned to Auria and Caitlin, smiling.
Auria smiled. "Go. I'll get Caitlin home safe and sound."
Davina smiled, nodding. "Thanks, Auria."
Davina walked away, running toward Kaleb/Kol, wrapping her arms around him, kissing him passionately.
Auria and Caitlin smiled small smiles at the sight, walking away, leaving.

Marcel's Loft
Marcel was on the couch, waking up.
Noah was pouring two drinks for the both of them, better now that he had fed. "Welcome back, soldier. Auria called. Klaus fed Caitlin his blood. You're gonna be okay." Marcel pulled up his sleeve to reveal that his bite was completely healed. He looked around to find that the loft was covered in empty blood bags. Noah walked closer, smirking. "They're all getting into the rest of your blood bags downstairs."
Noah held a glass toward Marcel.
Marcel took it. "Thanks, Noah." He took a drink. "You know, only today did I find out how much of a leader that you are, too."
Noah smirked. "Well, I learned from the best."
Marcel smiled a small smile, proud. "You did good. And I gotta admit, I never would've become a leader if it wasn't for you giving me the push."
"Yeah, well, we owed it to each other," Noah told him.
"And that's what family does," Marcel told him.
Marcel and Noah smirked, clinking their glasses, taking a drink.
Auria and Caitlin walked in.
"Marcel?" Auria asked worriedly.
Marcel stood. "I'm good."
"Yeah, I'm good, too, Auria, thanks for asking," Noah told her sarcastically.
Auria chuckled. "I'm glad you're okay too, Noah."
Marcel looked at Caitlin. "Thank God you got there before I got here, C. For a minute there, I thought I was a--" Caitlin walked closer, slapping Marcel in the face. "Goner."
Marcel looked at her.
"That is the last time you ever compel me," Caitlin told him. She rubbed her cheek. "And slapping you in the face was completely worth the pain that I got." Marcel chuckled. Noah looked at Caitlin in regret, knowing that he had tried to hurt her. Caitlin looked at him in relief, looking as if she could breathe again. "Noah."
Noah placed his glass down. Caitlin walked immediately into his arms. Noah held her close. After a long moment, they pulled away, though Noah still had an arm around her.
Auria walked closer, smiling at the sight of them together. She looked at Marcel. "You okay?"
Marcel looked at Auria, smiling. "I'm good."
Auria and Marcel embraced for a long moment in relief, pulling away.
Auria smiled a small smile. "Marcel, I'm sorry for being a pain in the ass with the whole witch-peace theory. I didn't think that you were--"
"Only the weak don't challenge authority, Auria," Marcel told her. He nodded to Caitlin. "Just ask Caitlin." Caitlin smirked, shrugging. "You did good on so many levels in so many different circumstances." Auria smiled. Marcel looked at Caitlin. "Though, sometimes people can take it too far and turn it into authority issues."
"I don't take it too far," Caitlin told him. "You take it too seriously."
Marcel gave Caitlin a halfhearted look, still exhausted. "You did good, too."
They all smiled small smiles.
There was a clapping noise from behind them, making them turn to face the doorway.
Vincent/Finn stood there, clapping sarcastically.
Marcel and Noah glared at him angrily.
Noah let go of Caitlin to fight if necessary.
"I applaud you all for your... strength of character," Vincent/Finn told them. "Just finished congratulating your little vampire horde downstairs."
"What did you do to them?" Noah asked furiously.
"Nothing that isn't reversible," Vincent/Finn told them. "I came to ask you a question. See, earlier today, I spent some time with my siblings. They went to great lengths to hide something from me. A secret they'd do anything to keep." Auria already knew the secret because she was the witch that was hiding Hope with her magic, looking away in worry. "So, I was thinking that they might have told you."
"Even if they did, I wouldn't tell you," Marcel told him. "And too bad you can't get into Noah's head or mine to find out."
Vincent/Finn chuckled. "See, but your mind is linked to Caitlin's, Marcel." He looked at Caitlin. "I heard that you both hallucinate when you're under the effect of werewolf venom. I heard that's how you came to the revelation that he compelled you to forget that your parents were the ones that organized the witches to link you to him, and that you also remembered that he compelled you to not notice that you had both been bitten. With the right magic, I can further the link between the two of you and get whatever I want out of the lot of you." He looked at Marcel. "So, I may not be able to get it out of you, or Noah, or Auria, but I'm willing to bet I can rip it out of Caitlin."
Caitlin tried not to show them how scared that made her really feel.
Noah stood in front of Caitlin protectively, transforming furiously.
Vincent/Finn flicked his wrist, magically snapping Noah's neck, letting him fall.
Caitlin gasped, backing away. "Noah!"
Auria turned to Vincent/Finn furiously, holding her hand toward him, using magic to give him a massive pain infliction spell, making him groan in agony.
Vincent/Finn chuckled through the pain, thrusting his hands toward Auria, knocking her out, making her fall unconscious.
Marcel transformed furiously, rushing toward Vincent/Finn.
Vincent/Finn used magic to cause Marcel pain, the link making it Caitlin's pain, making them both scream in agony.

Mikaelson Safe House - Living Room
Cami was sitting on the couch with Hope in her arms.
Elijah was pacing, on the phone.
Klaus's voice was on the other end of the line. "How is my daughter?"
"She's in good hands," Elijah answered. He looked at Cami, smiling a small smile. "As am I. However, if you say the word, I will return."
"No, you're needed where you are," Klaus told him.
"So the city is safe?" Elijah asked.
Klaus was in the loft, stepping over the empty blood bags, revealing that Vincent/Finn had taken everyone. "Well, I wouldn't exactly go flinging around terms like 'safe'. Marcel, Noah and their vampires, Auria and Caitlin have inexplicably disappeared. Kol is in the wind, Rebekah is still lost, and Finn is dangerously suspicious of the secrets we keep." He turned to look outside the windows. "Speaking of which, I meant what I said. I am capable of forgiveness." Elijah took this to heart. "We need to remain focused on our common enemies. I'll be in touch." Elijah and Klaus hung up. Hayley walked in. Klaus put his phone away. "Aw. The baby hybrid has arrived." He turned to face Hayley. "I believed I asked for the cavalry. Where's my sister?"
"Kassandra's looking through the cemetery," Hayley answered. "Just tell me what you need."
"You can start by questioning the wolves," Klaus told her. "Have Mikayla find out what Finn has done with our friends and the witch that currently is keeping the location of our daughter hidden by her magic."
"I would, but most of the wolves took off for the bayou, waiting for Mikayla an Jackson finish their wedding trials," Hayley told him.
"What trials might those be?" Klaus asked.
"Your basic old-school werewolf stuff," Hayley answered. "They go out into the woods and smoke this blue calamus root out of a peace pipe."
"Blue calamus?" Klaus repeated. "A rather specific plant. Known by many for its unique properties as a truth serum." Hayley pressed her lips together. "In generations past, it was used among the wolves in divulgement rituals."

Mikayla met up with Jackson nearby Mary's House.

Marcel's Loft
Klaus turned to face Hayley. "I don't suppose they mentioned such a thing." Hayley didn't answer, looking down. Klaus walked closer, giving her a hard look. "Hayley."
"Mikayla just said they had to do rituals and ceremonial stuff," Hayley told him.
"By the look on your face, I can tell that Mikayla told you more," Klaus told her.
Hayley sighed. "Mikayla called me. She wanted to back out of it because of Hope. I didn't let her because in order for this ceremony to work and help us bring our daughter home, there can't be any secrets."
Klaus gave her an unamused look. "You should have let your sister do the right thing. Where exactly did Jackson take Mikayla?"

Bayou
Jackson led Mikayla toward Mary's House.
Hayley: (voice over) "You have to let her do this."

The Loft
Klaus and Hayley were starting to argue.
"I will do no such thing," Klaus told her. "I will go out to the bayou and slaughter Jackson to keep the secret of Hope safe. Mikayla won't go through with it."
"We have bigger issues to deal with," Hayley told him. "Finn has Auria, the witch that has been hiding Hope, in his grasp, and while Auria may not break easily, he also has Marcel, Caitlin and Noah, who are like family to her."
"Kassandra will have to see to our friends," Klaus told her. "I will see to Jackson and Mikayla."
Klaus started to walk past her.
Hayley turned after Klaus, grabbing his arm to stop him. "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to have a little chat with the bride-to-be," Klaus answered. "Remind her that some secrets need to stay buried."
Klaus snapped Hayley's neck, letting her fall unconscious to the floor because he knew that she wouldn't let him go without a fight, walking out, leaving.
