chapter 4 - Paper Moon

Outfits in the external

THEN

From 8.04 "Bitten", in the house, Brian Wilcox appeared in front of Kate the Werewolf, catching her in his arms. As she struggled to get away, he picked her up, growling, biting into her shoulder.

Ness: (voice over from 8.04 Bitten) "Werewolves that are turned up to four generations from pure blood are less feral and can transform before, during and after the lunar cycle."

From 8.04 "Bitten", in the house's bathroom, Brian was filming Kate. Kate looked up, transformed, growling, lunging at Brian.

From 9.12 "Sharp Teeth", in the barn, Garth Fitzgerald started to turn into a Werewolf, growling.

From 2.17 "Heart", in Madison's Apartment, Madison the Werewolf transformed.

From 2.17 "Heart", at Hunter's Point, Glenn the Werewolf lunged at Catty, tackling her to the ground, turning her to face him, raising a clawed hand to slash into her. Dean shot Glenn in the chest repeatedly with silver bullets.

Dean: (voice over from 2.17 Heart) "A Human by day, a freak animal killing machine by moonlight. Werewolves are badass."

From 9.12 "Sharp Teeth", in the field, Catty threw her knife toward Young Sabrina. Young Sabrina caught it just as it was about to reach her, stabbing it into Sheriff's (Werewolf's) heart, killing him.

From 9.12 "Sharp Teeth", outside the barn, Russ the Werewolf transformed, growling, lunging for Castiel. Catty was behind Russ, stabbing him in the back, twisting the silver knife into his heart, killing him, pushing him to the ground.

From 9.12 "Sharp Teeth", in the barn, Young Sabrina was up in the hayloft with Joba the Werewolf, stabbing him in the chest with a silver knife, killing him before he ha a chance to fight back. She threw her knife into Joy the Werewolf's chest, in her heart, killing her.

Dean: (voice over from 2.17 Heart) "The best part about is is we already know how to bring these suckers down."

From 9.23 "Do You Believe In Miracles?", in the Bunker, in Dean and Ness' room, Ness' body was lying in the bed, clean of all of the blood, but was still severely beat and broken. She opened her completely black, Demon eyes.

From 10.01 "Black", Dean and Crowley's phone call (outside the gas station and outside the Black Spur)

"I don't know how you did this, what kind of... black magic stunt you pulled, but hear me," Dean told him. "I will save my wife or die trying."

From 10.02 "Reichenbach", outside the bar, Sam splashed Holy Water onto Ness from behind, making her skin burn and sizzle, making her groan a scream of pain. Ness turned to Sam to retaliate. Sabrina punched Ness in the face, kneeing her in the stomach, twisting one of her wrists behind her back, making her face Catty. Ness tried to punch Catty in the face. Catty caught her wrist, using her momentum to twist it downwards, kicking her in the stomach, making her fall to her knees, twisting her arm behind her back. Dean handcuffed Ness with the Demonic handcuffs, rendering her powerless.

"Stop!" Sam told her. "It's over! Ness, it's over."

From 10.03 "Soul Survivor", in the Bunker's dungeon, Ness was handcuffed to the chair within the Devil's Trap with the Demonic handcuffs. Sam, Dean and Catty stood nearby. Sabrina stood in the doorway, leaning against it.

"There ain't much difference from what I turned into to what you guys already are," Ness told them.

"And what exactly is that supposed to mean?" Sabrina asked.

From 10.03 "Soul Survivor", in the flashback at the Crossroads, The Crossroads Demon kissed Lester, sealing the deal. The Crossroads Demon was chained to the tree with her arms above her head. She was being tortured, bleeding, breathing heavily in pain. Dean pulled out Catty's Knife, cutting into her chest, making her scream in pain.

"I got nothing for you," the Crossroads Demon told him. "And you made that poor son of a bitch sell his soul."

Ness: (voice over from 10.01 Black) "I know what you did when you went looking for me. I know how far you went."

From 10.02 "Reichenbach", in the karaoke club, Ness punched Guy 1 in the face hard enough to make his neck snap, letting him fall to the floor. She turned to face Guy 2, kicking him in the face, making him fall to the floor, kicking his chest, making him start to gurgle with blood. She grabbed Guy 3 by the shoulders, headbutting him dead on the nose, making the bone stab up into his brain, killing him as well. She stabbed Guy 4 in the stomach with the First Blade, killing him. She reached into Guy 5's chest, gripping his heart, making him gasp. she pulled his heart out, taking her time, making her scream.

Ness: (voice over from 10.01 Black) "Which one of us is really a monster?"

From 10.03 "Soul Survivor", in the Bunker's dungeon, there were flashes of Sam, Dean, Catty and Sabrina injecting Ness with Human blood. There were needle marks on Ness' arm now, close by the Mark of Cain. Ness woke. Her eyes her black. The black dissolved out of her eyes. Sam, Octavia, Dean, Catty, Sabrina and Castiel watched Ness carefully.

"I see her face," Sabrina told them. "Her true face. It's really Aunt Ness. She's not a Demon anymore."

Ness looked up at them, surprised. They sighed in relief.

Dean smiled. "Welcome back, Loch Ness."

Ness looked down, trying to process what she had done, what she had become, and what had just happened.

From 10.03 "Soul Survivor", in the Bunker, in Dean and Ness' room, Ness walked toward a tiny box on the dresser, opening it, revealing her necklace. She pulled it out, holding it by its chain, looking at the pendant somberly, thoughtfully, looking down in shame.

Dean walked closer. "It wasn't your fault. Whatever you said, whatever you did, it wasn't really you."

Ness looked up. "I tried to kill you, Dean."

"Ness, we have been through so much," Dean told her. "It's gonna take a lot more than trying to kill me with a hammer to make me want to walk away." He looked at Ness' Necklace still in her hand. "May I?" Ness nodded, sniffing, handing the necklace to him, pulling her hair aside. Dean stood behind her, latching the necklace on, a hand staying on her shoulder. "You want someone to blame for what happened? Blame Crowley. He's the one that got you into this mess." Ness turned to face him, letting a few tears fall. Dean shook his head. "Don't put yourself through this." Ness sighed shakily, nodding barely, looking down. "Hey, maybe we should, um... take some time before we get back to work. Get you healed. It's, uh... I don't know. The timing might be right. It's quiet out there."

Ness barely nodded in agreement, hesitantly meeting his gaze. Dean pulled her into his arms. Ness returned the embrace, letting a few more tears fall. They were both relieved beyond words to be in each other's arms again.

Day One

Durham, Washington

Night - Panheads Bar

(Song:) Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon

A mystery girl walked into the bar. Bikers looked at the mystery girl approvingly. The mystery girl had a golden charm bracelet. She settled on a young man who blatantly returned her interest.

§

Outside

The mystery girl pushed the man up against the wall, ripping open his shirt.

"Damn," the man told her. "Girl after my own heart."

"That's the idea, sweetie," the mystery girl told him, growing claws.

"What the hell?" the man asked.

The mystery woman slashed his throat, killing him, letting him fall, attacking him, snarling.

Day Two

Lebanon, Kansas

Morning - Lakeside

Dean and Ness were sitting on a picnic blanket beside a lakeside. Dean was leaning against the cooler behind him, his arms around Ness as she leaned back against him, her head on his shoulder, closing her eyes in relaxation, loving the feel of the sun on her skin, his skin touching hers, his arms around her protectively and comfortingly, as if after what happened, he wouldn't let go.

Ness smiled a small smile, holding his arms that were wrapped around her. "I miss being with you like this, Dean. I mean, I finally feel something other than anger and darkness. I'm Human again, and I can't believe that I didn't even miss this."

"You weren't you, Ness," Dean told her.

"But now that I am me again, I realize how much that this me missed you this much," Ness told him. "If that makes sense."

"Most of the things that you say don't make sense to anyone, much less me, but I understood that," Dean told her. "I missed you, too. You have no idea how much." Ness looked up at him, smiling. She sat up to turn to kiss him, slowly and sweetly at first. They pulled away, looking at each other for a long moment, kissing more passionately for a few long moments, pulling away, looking at each other with small smiles. Dean looked at her curiously. "How you doing?"

"I'm good, now," Ness answered. "I am. You know, I'm here with you. I feel the best I have in forever." She picked up her beer. "We got... three more cases of this stuff on ice in the trunk. Taking some 'we time'... best decision we ever made."

Dean sat straight, sliding closer. "Here's to that." He put a hand on her cheek, kissing her for a long moment. Ness pulled away, leaning her head against his, closing her eyes, looking at him contently. She started to overthink things like she usually did, sitting back against the cooler next to him. Dean looked at her knowingly. "We're about to have a talk, aren't we?"

"I just... I can't stop thinking," Ness told him.

"About?" Dean asked.

"Everything," Ness answered. "Everything that I did. What I became. The people I nearly beat to death. The people I killed. Like Lester."

"Lester?" Dean repeated. "You wanna talk about the guy who I made sell his soul?"

"The guy who I then killed," Ness told him. "He wasn't the only one, Dean."

"You don't have to talk about this, Ness," Dean told her.

"Yeah, I do," Ness told him.

Dean sat back next to her. "Okay, you wanna share blame? Lester was gonna pay for that soul shake sooner or later. So, technically, it's still on me. I'm not happy about it, okay? But I needed to find you. So if I had to... bend a few rules... go dark..."

"Look, Dean, I'm not complaining, okay?" Ness asked. "In fact, I'm doing just the opposite of complaining. I guess what I'm trying to say is... Thank you, for saving me from the animal that I became. And I'm sorry for what I tried to do to you."

"Ness, you've told me that before," Dean told her.

"And I'm going to keep telling you this until I'm put six feet in the ground or I'm turned into ash," Ness told him. "Is that okay with you?"

Dean smiled a small smile, taking her hand. "As long as you're here next to me, I don't care."

Ness managed a small smile, leaning closer to kiss him.

The Bunker - Library

Sam was sitting at a table, looking at a laptop. Catty was standing at the other table, packing up a bag. Dean and Ness walked in.

"Hey, Sam," Ness told him. "Catty."

"Hey, guys," Catty told them. "You just get back?"

"Yeah," Dean answered. "Taking a second honeymoon was a pretty damn good idea."

Sam smiled. "Yeah, I bet. You guys okay?"

Dean wrapped an arm around Ness from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Golden." They smiled. Sam chuckled. "Where're Ava, Sabrina and Cas?"

"Uh, they headed out a little bit ago," Sam answered. "Cas and Ava are still training Sabrina's powers and training." Ness frowned, opening her mouth to speak. "Yeah, we know Sabrina got to be an even bigger all around badass, but Cas and Ava are still teaching Sabrina how to use all of her powers and abilities. And because Sow wants Cas and Ava to teach her everything they can. And Sabrina has Cas teach her some things, and Ava teach her others."

"Yeah, Sow definitely has both Cas and Ava power wise," Dean explained. "And then Ava's been teaching Sabrina how to fight. If you couldn't tell before when Sabrina started to kick ass like Ava."

"Oh, I could tell," Ness answered. They smiled. "Hey, Sammy, I something I needed to ask you."

"Shoot," Sam told her.

Ness smiled in amusement. "You've been... kicked, bit, scratched, stabbed, possessed, killed... and you sprain your freaking elbow?"

Dean smiled.

"Ness, it was more than a sprain," Sam told her. "All right? And it was a freaking Demon, but..."

"What?" Ness asked. "That sling come with a slice of... crybaby pie on the side?" Catty chuckled. Sam smiled despite himself. Ness smirked. "Please."

Dean walked closer to Catty and Sam, looking at Catty's duffle. "You got a job?"

"Yeah," Catty answered. "Uh, three kills, in the same town, all within the last month. It's coined as animal kills, but... we were gonna go handle it, before you got back, but... here you are."

"Yep," Dean agreed.

A moment of silence passed.

"Um, we could go with you," Ness told them. "Be in and out. It's a milk run."

Catty nodded sarcastically. "Right, because that happens... never."

"Look, guys, we took some time off," Ness told them. "And it was great. It got me back to me again, okay? Dean, I loved every moment of the last few weeks that we've been off, out there on our own. But I need to work. I need this."

Catty and Sam exchanged a look, looking at Dean.

Dean walked closer to Ness. "If this goes sideways... I mean, like an inch, you gotta give us the heads up."

Ness nodded in relief. "Done. You got my word. Come on, guys. You know me. This me. I'm back."

Catty, Sam and Dean nodded. Ness smiled reassuringly, sheepishly.

§

Durham, Washington

King County Sheriff Station

Catty and Ness were posing as Game Wardens. Ness handed over her fake ID to the Sheriff, while Catty simply flashed hers.

Sheriff looked at them in relief. "Well, I'm not gonna lie. We're damn glad to see you." He handed Catty's ID back to her. "You must come up on stuff like this all the time."

Catty nodded. "Oh, yeah."

"Yeah, definitely," Ness told him.

"Hell, seen raccoons in rec rooms, and bears in swimming pools," Sheriff told them. "But this? You tell me."

Catty chuckled barely. "Yeah." Sheriff looked at them in expectation of a good story. Catty realized, starting to spin one. "Oh, well, uh... where do we start? What with, uh... logging. Ice caps. Bitcoin. Yeah." Sheriff looked at them skeptically. Catty started to get flustered. "Obama."

Ness looked at Catty in slight amusement, looking at Sheriff. "You know what? Maybe--maybe, uh, you could walk us through the attacks. Any similarities, anything weird."

"Only thing weird about them was how similar they were," Sheriff told them. "Folks torn clean through. Hearts... absent."

"Hearts absent?" Ness repeated. "As in--"

"Consumed, most likely," Sheriff answered.

"And there were no witnesses?" Catty asked.

"Well, the town square attack, the parking lot?" Sheriff asked. "Those were real late. But the bar? Hell, with how jammed the place was, you'd think somebody other than Tommy would've seen something."

"And what did he see?" Ness asked.

"Honestly, not much," Sheriff answered. "Now, Tommy ain't exactly what we call a reliable witness. And he's telling anybody who'll listen he saw some girl go out back with Barker, and she got torn up, too."

"So, there was a second victim?" Catty asked.

"Well, sure," Sheriff answered. "Except Tommy's a drunk. There's no body, no DNA, no blood trail, no nothing to suggest that." A deputy approached, handing Sheriff some paperwork. "Give me one sec."

"Yeah," Ness told him.

Both officers walked away, leaving.

Catty looked at Ness. "Hearts missing. Sounds Wolfy to me. Right?"

"Yeah," Ness answered. "Pretty brazen, even for a Werewolf."

"You think it was the girl?" Catty asked.

Ness shrugged. "Let's find out."

§

Panheads

(Song:) Another Round - Kenny Greenberg (Extreme Music)

Sam and Dean sat with a man. A large mug of beer was on the table in front of him.

"Yeah, Barker and I have been raising hell, chasing tail, and riding for a long time," Tommy told them. "Part of him always knew when his clock ran out, it wasn't gonna be pretty. To go out like that? By some animal? Just ain't right."

Tommy shook his head in disbelief.

"You mind, uh, you mind telling us what went don?" Dean asked.

"It was just another party, you know?" Tommy asked. "Barker went out back. The next thing you know, everyone's yelling and screaming, and he's all torn up."

"Now, the Sheriff mentioned you thought there might've been a girl involved," Sam told him. "You think she was killed, too?"

"Nope," Tommy answered, shaking his head, picking up his beer, taking a large drink.

"So there was no girl?" Sam asked.

"Couldn't say," Tommy told them, shaking his head, looking at Dean nervously out of the corner of his eye.

"You know we're not cops, right?" Dean asked.

"Badge is a badge," Tommy told them.

"Well, you should also know that working outdoors the way we do, we see some--some pretty weird crap," Dean told him. "Stuff that we can't explain. I mean, hell, half the stuff, we wouldn't have believed it ourselves had we not seen it together."

"Well, you don't have to live in this town, mister," Tommy told him. "You don't have to deal with the ridicule."

"I'm just saying that crazy might be half as crazy as you think," Dean told him.

Tommy hesitated. "So, if someone were to tell you they saw a Ghost, you'd... believe that?"

Dean looked from Sam to Tommy. "Just assume we believe everything."

Tommy nodded. "Okay, then. The other night, I was taking a ride past the old Sturges farm. You know, thinking about the rides me and Barker used to go on. I saw her, man."

Sam raised his eyebrows. "Saw her, who?"

"The girl," Tommy answered.

"What, after the attack?" Sam asked.

"Hell, yeah," Tommy answered. "She was just standing there, all bloody, watching me. So--so I turn the hell around, I--I ran back, thinking, damn, you know, she... but... she was just gone. Like... gone."

Sam nodded. "Like a Ghost."

Tommy nodded. "No, I don't give one red cent in Hell what the cops say. She was there. She was eaten. She's a freaking Ghost."

Tommy took a drink. Dean turned at Sam, raising his eyebrows.

Night - Sturges Farm

The Impala pulled up, pulling over. Sam, Catty, Ness and Dean got out, looking around, leaving the headlights on, all of them having guns.

"Ghosts don't shred people like that," Sam told them.

Dean fiddled with his. 45, ejecting the magazine, checking it. "Yeah, well... this flea bag, looks like she ain't done chowing down on Sons of Anarchy just yet."

"Guess she likes bad boys," Ness told them.

Catty looked at Ness, nodding to her brothers, smiling. "Well, wait until she gets a load of Sam and Dean."

Sam and Dean gave Catty a halfhearted look. "Catty."

Catty smiled. Ness smirked. They turned on their flashlights, and guns in hand, walked toward a seemingly deserted barn. Ness gestured with her gun for them to split up.

§

Inside

Dean and Ness walked in from the back. Sam and Catty walked in from the front. They came across several dead chickens scattered on the ground with their hearts missing. They reached a door with several deep scratches across its surface. They walked in quickly and cautiously, gun aimed and ready, scanning the interior, doing a quick but efficient search with their flashlights. They clicked the light off when they heard a voice, aiming their guns at her.

A girl with short blonde hair was turned away from them, wearing a charm bracelet, on the phone. "Stop ignoring my calls. Pick up the phone and call me right now. This isn't how it's supposed to go. Look, I've been down this road before, and I'm not going to..."

The girl stopped, sniffing the air, sensing Sam and Catty, bolting for the door. Sam and Catty ran after her. The girl ran into Dean and Ness. Dean and Ness had their guns aimed, hesitating, recognizing her.

"What?" Catty asked. Dean turned the girl to face them. They recognized her. "Kate?"

Kate looked scared to see them again. Dean, Ness, Sam and Catty weren't shocked, but surprised, and definitely disappointed.

§

Kate's wrists were tied with heave rope, secured to the rafters. "I know who you are."

"Congratulations," Ness told her.

"Where's the girl?" Kate asked. "Sabrina, was that her name? The one that found us?"

"Yeah, it's Sabrina," Sam answered.

"Sabrina is spending a little quality time with her father Cas and her aunt Ava right now," Dean answered. "Sabrina will be glad to know that you asked about her."

"After what happened at school, I thought you'd let me go," Kate told them.

"Yeah, well, that was before you started dropping bodies," Sam told her.

"What?" Kate asked.

"Guy at the bar saw you before you went all Wolverine on his buddy," Catty told her. "So... surprise. Here we are."

"Kate, you said you were gonna go straight," Ness told her. "What happened?"

Kate looked insolent. "I guess things change. Being this... I tried to be strong, but the hunger was too much. Too hard. It's not like anyone gave me a handbook on how to be a Werewolf."

"Looks like you're doing a pretty good job so far," Dean told her sarcastically. "Break some hearts, then you eat them."

"I was on my own," Kate told them. "I... evolved."

"So that's what you call killing innocent people?" Sam asked.

"Look, I didn't have it as easy as Sabrina, okay?" Kate asked.

Catty scoffed, nearly chuckling. "Easy? You're kidding, right? Sweetheart, you don't know the first thing about Sabrina, or what she goes through on a daily basis to fight more than what you have to fight for. Trust me, Sabrina's got it a lot harder than you do."

"Whatever you're gonna do, just... do it," Kate told them.

Ness, Sam, Dean and Catty exchanged a look. Ness cocked her gun, aiming it at Kate. She hesitated. Sam put a hand on Ness' arm to stop her. Ness uncocked the weapon. Ness, Sam, Dean and Catty stepped away to talk alone.

"Hey, you know what?" Sam asked. "Let me do it."

"Why?" Ness asked.

"Because... I think you should sit this one out," Sam answered.

"What are you talking about?" Ness asked.

"You're not ready, Ness," Sam told her.

Catty's phone rang. Sam and Dean looked toward Kate.

Catty turned away to answer my phone, seeing it was the Sheriff calling. "Hello?"

"Warden, we had another animal attack over at the high school gymnasium," Sheriff told her. "Guy was a security guard. Same MO as the other three."

"When?" Catty asked.

"Deputy said the victim's blood was still arm when he got there, so had to be less than an hour ago," Sheriff told her.

Catty nodded, sighing. "Of course. Thank you. Um, I'll be in touch." She hung up, walking toward Ness, Sam and Dean. "We got a problem."

"What, besides, uh, Werewolf Barbie over here?" Dean asked.

"Yeah," Catty answered. "There was another kill, across town, just before dark."

"Well, how did Kate get her murder on and then get back here b--" Sam started. Catty raised her eyebrows. Sam realized. "You don't think she did it."

"Look, I don't know, guys," Catty told her. "But as far as I'm concerned--" Kate had been cutting through her ropes with her claws, running out the door, leaving. "Oh, son of a bitch."

§

Outside

Ness, Dean, Sam and Catty walked outside toward the Impala.

"All right, if she's not icing people, then why play the big bad Wolf?" Dean asked.

"Maybe she's running with a pack," Sam told them. "You know, trying to protect them."

"Well, a hell of a price to pay," Dean told them. "She was about two seconds away from taking a dirt nap."

Ness pulled out Kate's phone, going through it.

"What is that?" Sam asked.

"It's her phone," Ness answered. "Let's see who she was calling when we pulled up."

Ness pressed redial, on speaker.

Man's voice: "Thank you for calling Lincoln Motel. Can I help you?"

Ness hung up. They got into the Impala, driving away, leaving.

§

On the Road - The Impala

Ness looked at Sam, raising her eyebrows. "So, what's this about me not being ready back there, Sam?"

Sam was lost for words. "I'm... I wasn't... trying to start something, Ness. I was just saying, I thought that was the whole point of you guys taking a break. You know?"

"Oh, no, no, yeah," Ness told them. "I get that. And, you know, there's no worries there."

"Okay," Catty told them.

Dean drove them off into the night.

§

Day Three

Motel - Outside

Dean and Ness were in the front seats of the Impala, watching the door to one of the rooms through the side mirrors. Sam and Catty walked closer, leaning against the car door.

"All right, so, the, uh, clerk says a blonde rolled into room 3 just before sunup," Catty told them.

"She alone?" Ness asked.

"He thinks so," Sam answered.

Dean noticed movement in the mirror in time to see a woman leave the room, turning to lock the door, her bracelet shaking with the movement. "She's on the move."

Sam turned to watch the woman walk away as she left in the other direction. Dean and Ness got out of the car, them, Catty and Sam following.

§

Woods

Sam, Dean, Ness and Catty followed the woman in a hoodie into a park down a track where there were joggers and pedestrians coming and going. The woman turned down a lesser used trail, evidently following a jogger. Sam, Dean, Ness and Catty followed.

"What's she doing?" Sam asked.

"Looking for breakfast," Dean told them.

They followed her down the trail to find her coming up behind a lone jogger, pulling their guns, aiming them at her.

"Kate, it's over," Catty told her.

The woman turned to face them, revealing that it was not Kate, but another petite with long blonde hair. She looked at them in shock, freezing, raising her hands. "Oh, God. Please, don't. I'll give you anything you want."

They semi-lowered their guns, still on guard.

"Where's Kate?" Sam asked.

"Who?" the woman asked.

"You were just in her motel room," Dean told her.

"What?" the woman asked. "That's my room."

"Why were you following that guy?" Ness asked.

"Robbie?" the woman asked. "I--I know him. I just wanted to surprise him."

Sam nodded to Catty. "Test her."

"Test me for what?" the woman asked. Catty put her gun away, pulling a silver knife from her jacket pocket, approaching the woman slowly. "No! Help! Somebody help me!"

"Just take it easy," Catty told her.

"I don't want to die," the woman whispered.

The woman transformed, growing fangs and claws, her eyes turning yellow, pushing Catty back into a tree, making her fall. Dean and Ness aimed their guns at the woman. The woman turned toward Sam, using his injured arm to pull him between them, using him as a shield, making it impossible to get a clear shot.

Kate arrived, pulling the woman away from Sam. "Stop it! Stop it!" The woman growled, running away, leaving. Ness aimed her gun after the woman. Kate stood in her way. "Don't! She's my sister."

Kate's sister got away. Ness sighed, lowering her gun. Catty, Sam, Dean and Ness exchanged a look, looking at Kate.

§

Catty searched for Kate's sister, meeting up with Sam, Dean and Kate. "I lost her."

Ness sighed. "Kate, why is your sister a Werewolf, huh?"

Kate sighed. "My sister is a Werewolf because I turned her into one."

"Okay, this is the part where you help yourself out," Catty told her.

Dean put his gun away. "Let me get this straight. We let you run because we take pity on you, and you turn around and you start making pups? You start killing people?"

"It's not like that!" Kate told them. "I'm no killer."

"Well, the way I remember it from the snuff film that you left us, is that you killed your boyfriend's best friend," Dean told her.

"That's because Brian went crazy," Kate told them. "I had no other choice."

"Okay, Kate, if this wasn't you..." Sam trailed off.

"That's a big 'if'," Ness told her.

"Then who was it?" Sam asked. "Your sister? Your sister do this, Kate?"

Kate didn't answer.

"Really?" Dean asked. "You almost took a bullet for her, and you got nothing?"

Kate shook her head. "What do you want me to say?"

"The truth," Dean answered.

Catty noticed a bunch of joggers approaching. "Hey, guys. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Can we, uh, take it somewhere else?"

"Oh, yeah, sure," Dean told them sarcastically. "Go grab some coffee, maybe some bear hearts." He nodded for Kate to go. "Let's party."

Catty, Sam, Dean, Ness and Kate walked away, leaving.

§

Diner

Sam and Dean were sitting on one side of a table at a diner. Kate and Catty were sitting across from them. Ness was at one of the heads of the table.

Kate reached around to the small of her back. "Just so you know, Brian's the reason I carry this."

Dean reached for his gun. "Hey."

"I'm just showing you something," Kate told them, slowly pulling out a silver dagger. "In case I ever lose it, like Brian did, you won't have to kill me."

Kate put the blade away.

"Yeah, well, saying it and doing it are two different things," Dean told her.

"I'm serious," Kate told them. "And whether you believe me or not, I've never hurt anyone who didn't deserve it. And I have never, ever eaten a Human heart."

"Guess that explains all the dead chickens back at the barn," Catty told them.

"I eat what I can find, what people won't miss, hopefully," Kate told them. "Small game, deer. I meditated. Yoga helps."

"Yoga?" Sam repeated.

Dean nodded. "Okay."

"You laugh, but... I'll pretty much try anything to keep that side of me under control," Kate told them.

Sam looked at Catty.

Catty sighed. "Well, that is great, Kate. It really is. And it's nice to see that, uh, this hippie-dippie new age crap has had such a positive influence over your sister."

Kate sighed. "Tasha. She's a different story. After I left school, I was... adrift. Lost. Not really sure where to go or... what to do, so... I went someplace safe."

Flashback

Day - Kate's Family Home - Outside

Kate watched her family through a window from behind a tree, but didn't enter the house.

Kate: (voice over) "I went home. But... even though I'd be good, I started to think about my family. How safe were they going to be? I was a Werewolf. And then, of course, there was you three and Sabrina."

Kate looked at the Winchesters. "What if you showed up and tried to kill me? I couldn't risk that. So I... walk away. Never called, never wrote. Just... started a new life. Until one day, I saw a posting on my sister's Facebook page."

Night - Hospital

Tasha was unconscious in a hospital bed. Kate walked in, taking her sister's hand, revealing the twin bracelets the two girls wore.

Kate: (voice over) "Tasha had been in a really bad car accident. The doctors didn't think she was gonna make it. We were always so close, so... I had to go say goodbye. Then..."

Flashback

Night - Hospital

Kate closed the door to the room, approaching Tasha's unconscious form.

Kate: (voice over) "If I turned Tasha into a Werewolf, it would heal her wounds, save her life, give her a second chance."

Flashback

Night - On the Road - Car

Kate was driving. Tasha was unconscious in the passenger seat, slowly coming to. She had a bite on her forearm that healed as she woke and looked around in confusion.

Kate: (voice over) "Even though Werewolves heal quickly, it was too late for Tasha. Then she woke up, not sick anymore, but okay."

Kate took Tasha's hand. "Hi. Hey."

"Hi," Tasha told her.

Kate: (voice over) "Tasha had so many questions. What happened? How did she get here? So... I was straight with her. The good, the bad, the ugly. What we were, and why we could never go back home, and..."

Flashback

Night - On the Road - Car

Kate was driving, holding her sister's hand. "I picked you up from the hospital. I'm gonna take you someplace safe, okay?"

Kate: (voice over) "It was a lot to swallow. But we had each other, and that felt like enough."

Night - Motel Room

Kate: (voice over) "My sister, she gave in to everything that I had warned her about. And... I knew, even if I couldn't bring myself to admit it then..."

Now

Day - Diner

Kate looked at the Winchesters. "I knew I was losing her."

"So, back at the barn, that was all just an act to protect Tasha?" Sam asked.

"She's family," Kate told them. "And, yeah, worth eating a bullet for." Sam, Dean, Ness and Catty exchanged a look. "And she needs me now more than ever. This is my mess. I gotta clean it up."

"And how do you plan on doing that, Kate?" Catty asked.

"By getting Tasha out of here," Kate answered.

"She hasn't listened to you yet," Ness told her. "Why do you think she's gonna start now?"

Kate had tears in her eyes. "I don't know, but... I've gotta try. Y--you know, we'll go out into the woods. We'll drop out for however long it takes until she learns to control this."

"Little late for team building, don't you think?" Dean asked.

"So, what?" Kate asked. "I just abandon her? I did this. I owe her every chance to make it right."

"What if she never does?" Sam asked.

"Then I'll take care of it," Kate answered.

"You'll take care of it?" Dean repeated. "You know what that means?"

"Why don't you ask Brian?" Kate asked.

"Well, maybe it doesn't have to come to that," Dean told her. "You know, if you had shot straight with us from the get-go, we might've been able to help you a lot sooner."

"What do you mean?" Kate asked.

"By curing you both," Dean told her.

Ness looked at Dean in disbelief.

"Shut up," Kate told him.

"Yeah, okay," Dean told her sarcastically. "Or, you're welcome."

"There is no cure for Werewolves," Kate told them.

"And for a long time, that was true, but we found one," Dean told her. Kate looked a little eager. "Now we've got everything we need on our end. Okay? But the clock is ticking. And, we need one more thing. Tasha. Unless... you wanna do this without her?"

"No, no, no," Kate answered. "It's a long drive, but... I know where to find her."

Dean nodded.

§

Outside

Sam, Dean, Ness and Catty walked out of the diner, standing at the trunk of the Impala.

"Dean, what are you doing?" Ness asked. "There is no cure."

Dean showed them his concealed silver knife. "There's one."

"Dean, it's a little more complicated than that," Ness told him.

"Kate and Tasha are monsters, okay?" Dean asked. "Last I checked, we kill monsters."

"Right, but how can you possibly blame Kate for fighting for her sister?" Catty asked. "We do it all the time."

"Well, yeah, and that's worked wonders for us," Dean told them.

"Well, we're still here, aren't we?" Catty replied.

"Yeah," Dean answered. "But is it right?"

"You can't take whatever's happened to us or to you, and--and dump it at these girls' feet," Sam told him.

Dean sighed, considering. "All right, so, what? You wanna nuance this thing? Hit me. What's your plan?"

Sam frowned in thought.

Night - On the Road - The Impala

Dean was driving. Ness was in the passenger seat. Kate, Catty and Sam were in the back. Kate was asleep.

"Kate?" Ness asked.

"She's out," Catty told them.

Sam hesitated, quiet. "Ness..." Ness looked up. "I'm sorry about what I said. That you weren't ready. I just..."

"I know, Sam," Ness told him. "You don't have to explain."

"Yeah, I do," Sam told her. "Okay, Dean wasn't the only one that was going to extremes to find you. How do you think I got this?" He looked at his arm in the sling. "And there were others besides Lester."

"Other Humans?" Ness asked.

"No," Dean answered. "No, no. And--and I'm sure there were a few hunters we rubbed, or we... punched the wrong way, but... no. We pretty much saved our best stuff for the bad guys."

"You gotta understand something, Ness," Catty told her. "We watched you die. And Dean carried you. And then you just..."

Ness looked down. "Yeah."

Catty took a deep breath. "Yeah. And, you were right, before. I was doing everything I could to look for you, Ness. And I was trying to make sure that Cas and Sabrina were okay, with the help of Ava. Which you had plenty to say about when you got back. And about way more than just Ava, Cas and Sabrina."

"Catty, when I said those things..." Ness trailed off.

"I know," Catty told her. "It wasn't you. Not completely. Doesn't mean that what you said wasn't true... to some degree."

Ness closed her eyes in guilt. "I can't believe that I tried to kill Sabrina."

"You apologized to Sabrina for it," Catty told her.

"It doesn't matter, Catty," Ness told her. "I mean, I would've killed her if the First Blade had worked. No matter how much I apologize, nothing can make up for the wrong that I've done. I..."

Ness couldn't finish.

"What?" Dean asked.

"It's embarrassing, you know?" Ness asked.

"W--what's embarrassing?" Dean asked.

"All of it," Nes answered, ashamed. "You know, the--the--the note. Crowley. The things I did. The things I said. Everything."

"Nessie, you were a Demon," Dean told her.

Ness remembered a conversation with Dean about how he had been a Vampire and had nearly killed her on accident, using his words from 6.06 You Can't Handle the Truth, but altered to their current situation. "Oh, I was a Demon? Oh, thanks. I didn't realize."

Dean remembered what she remembered, smiling. "Shut up."

Ness smiled a little, sadly. "Catty, Sam, I've been spending all this time thanking and apologizing to Dean and Sabrina for what happened. Thanking them for what they did, and apologizing for what I did to them. But I never even... I didn't thank either of you. I didn't apologize to you. So, thank you, for what you did to find me. For what you did to save me. And I am so sorry for what I did to you. Or what  I nearly did to you."

"You don't have to say that," Sam told her. "Not me. Not to Catty. Not after everything you did for us. Not after all the times you saved us."

Ness managed a small, sheepish smile. "Thanks, Sammy."

Sam and Catty smiled small, reassuring smiles.

Dean smiled. "Well, this is good. It's all gravy. Little R&R, and we are back at it."

Catty nodded to herself. She tapped Kate on her arm, waking her up. "Hey. How we doing?"

Kate looked out of the windows. "We're getting close."

"What is this place?" Catty asked.

"Ever since Tasha and I were little, we've been coming up to this cabin with our parents," Kate explained.

"Now, why do you think Tasha will even be here?" Sam asked.

"When she became a Wolf, we knew it was gonna be hard, so we kinda came up with this escape plan in case things ever got bad," Kate answered.

"So it's a rendezvous spot?" Catty asked.

"Pretty much," Kate answered.

Ness looked from Catty and Sam to Dean.

Cabin In the Woods - Outside

The Impala pulled up, turning off the headlights and parking out front. There was a light on inside the cabin.

§

The Impala

Dean was in the driver's seat. Ness was in the passenger seat. Kate, Catty and Sam were in the backseat.

"Now what?" Sam asked.

"Maybe I should go in first," Kate told them. "Explain all this."

Dean nodded. "Sounds good."

Kate started to get out. Catty grabbed her wrist, handcuffing Kate to the car door with a pair of silver handcuffs.

"What are you doing?" Kate demanded. "You bitch." She realized. "There is no cure is there?" They didn't answer. "I trusted you. It's not her fault. It's mine."

"She killed people," Dean told her.

"Because I did this to her, okay?" Kate asked pleadingly. "So if you want your pound of flesh, take me."

"We'll deal with you later," Dean told her.

"But she can be saved," Kate told us.

Ness was blunt but despairing. "No. Tasha's in too deep. You don't ever come back from that. Not ever." Catty, Sam and Dean looked at Ness, a little troubled. Ness got out of the car. "Come on, guys."

Kate struggled against the handcuffs, burning her skin. "No! Please! Don't do this! Dean!" Dean got out of the car, walking toward the cabin. "Please! Catty!" Catty got out of the car, walking toward the cabin. "Please, Sam!" Sam got out of the car, following. "Ness, don't!"

Inside

Ness, Dean, Catty and Sam walked in, guns drawn, each scouting a different part of the room. Catty noticed family photos on the mantel featuring the sisters at different ages. They split up, searching the cabin.

§

Bedroom

Catty walked into a bedroom.

Tasha was sitting on the bed, holding a doll. "I can't believe my own sister betrayed me."

Catty aimed her gun at Tasha. "Yeah, except... she didn't."

"You're not gonna shoot me," Tasha told her.

"And why is that?" Catty asked.

"Catty," Sam called.

Catty turned around, gun raised, seeing three men holding guns to Ness, Sam and Dean's heads.

§

The men pushed Ness, Dean and Sam to the floor. Catty aimed her gun between them.

"Drop the gun, or Dreamboats here get their minds blown," Tasha told her.

"Don't do it, Catty," Dean told her.

Man 1 hit Dean in the head with his gun, making him fall to the floor and groan in pain.

"Well, Catty?" Tasha asked mockingly.

Catty kept her gun trained on Tasha for a moment, looking at Ness, Sam and Dean, sighing, uncocking the gun, dropping it. Tasha kicked it aside. Another man pulled Kate inside.

"Tasha, what did--who are these people?" Kate asked.

Tasha turned to face Kate, pointing at Man 1. "Brandon." She pointed at Man 2. "Travis." She pointed at Man 3. "Ethan." She pointed at Man 4. "Seth." She smiled evilly. "I turned them. They're our new family."

"Yeah, you're a regular psycho Brady Bunch," Ness told them sarcastically.

Brandon lunged at Ness, baring Werewolf teeth.

Dean started to move. "Hey!"

Brandon pushed Dean back. Tasha grabbed Catty, throwing her onto the bed, strangling her.

"No!" Kate told her, struggling against Ethan. "Tasha, we can talk about this."

Tasha let go of Catty, turning to face Kate. "They were gonna kill me." Catty sat up, holding her throat. "And now you're protecting them?"

"No, I'm protecting you," Kate told her.

Tasha nodded sarcastically. "Yeah. I'm good. Thanks. So here's how it's gonna be. You can walk away, or you can join my pack."

Kate shook off Ethan. "I'm not walking away."

"Then prove you got what it takes," Tasha told her, looking at Catty. "Eat her heart out."

Kate looked darkly at Catty.

"Kate," Sam told her. "You don't have to do this."

Tasha chuckled. "No one's talking to you, Paul Bunyan." Kate and Catty exchanged a long look. Catty shook her head. Kate looked at Tasha. "So?"

Kate shook her head in disgust. "No."

Tasha looked at her Wolves, nodding to Ness, Dean, Sam and Catty. "Take them. Have some fun. Oh, and I want a heart to go. Put it in a doggie bag."

The Wolves grabbed Ness, Dean, Sam and Catty, dragging them out into the living room.

§

Living Room

Travis shoved Catty. "On your knees!"

Catty turned to face Travis sarcastically. "Wow. Well, I'm awfully flat..." She pretended to reconsider, shaking her head. "No, I'm pretty sure disgusted sums it up."

Ethan punched Dean in the face, making him fall to his knees. Seth pushed Ness to the floor. Brandon pulled down on Sam's injured arm, making him fall to his knees. Travis hit Catty in the head with his gun, making her fall to her knees.

§

Bedroom

Kate and Tasha were facing each other.

"T, I can help you get better," Kate told her pleadingly.

Tasha smirked. "Oh, I am better. And smarter and stronger... and awesome. I'm a freaking superhero."

"Who kills innocent people?" Kate asked skeptically. "No, that's not you. You were a good kid."

"I was weak and scared," Tasha told her. "I let people walk all over me. Mom, dad, friends, boyfriends. You. But I'm not weak anymore. And I'm not scared. I'm scary."

"I was trying to give you a second chance," Kate told her. "You wouldn't have been... normal, but we would've had each other."

"We still can," Tasha told her. "But I'm not gonna spend my life on the run from people like those guys out there. We're strong, Kate. We can go anywhere we want. We do anything we want. And if anyone gets in our way..." She stepped closer. "You don't have to be alone anymore. We can do this together."

§

Living Room

Catty, Dean, Sam and Ness were still on their knees, looking up at the Wolves.

Ness looked at Catty, Dean and Sam. "You okay?"

Sam groaned. "I've been better. These guys, huh? Can you believe them?"

Dean smiled mockingly. "Yeah, a couple of minor leaguers."

"Yo, you're dead," Travis told them. "You don't get to talk. In fact--"

Seth grabbed Ness from the floor. Catty stabbed Seth in the back, killing him. Brandon lunged at Sam. Sam drew a silver knife, plunging it into Brandon's heart, killing him. Ness tried to stab Ethan. Ethan caught her wrist, trying to bite Ness. Ness froze. Dean drew his silver knife, stabbing Ethan in the heart, killing him, standing to face Travis. Travis aimed his gun to shoot Dean.

Catty stood behind Travis, stabbing him in the heart, killing him. "Well, welcome to the majors, boys."

Dean smirked. Sam chuckled. Ness looked down.

§

Bedroom

Tasha and Kate were facing each other.

"Kate, we're gonna be good, okay?" Tasha asked. "We're gonna be great."

"I love you," Kate told her.

"I love you, too," Tasha told her.

They embraced. Kate stabbed Tasha in the back with her silver knife. Blood dripped from Tasha's mouth.

Kate had tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry." Tasha fell to the floor, dead. "I'm so sorry."

Sam, Dean, Catty and Ness burst into the room with guns drawn, seeing that Tasha was lying dead on the floor and Kate was gone, looking from Tasha's body to the open window with wind blowing the curtains, to each other, sighing.

On the Road - The Impala

Dean was driving. Ness was in the passenger seat. Sam and Catty were in the backseat.

"So, we going after her?" Dean asked.

"I don't know," Sam told them.

"But you gotta admit, when push came to kill, she did good," Catty told them.

"Yeah," Sam agreed.

Ness scoffed. "I froze. I can't believe I froze."

"After what happened, it's understandable," Sam told her.

Ness scoffed. "Nothing about what happened is understandable, to anyone."

Catty nodded. "Ain't that the truth."

Dean sighed. "Ness, look, we all jumped on this case. I agree. Equal parts blame there. But the whole idea behind laying low was to rest, to.. try and deal with everything we--everything you went through. Maybe we jumped back in too fast. Ness... you were a Demon. You still have the Mark."

"Yeah, I know," Ness told them. "But I can't let that hold me back. I've gotta get back in the saddle."

"And what if you're not ready?" Sam asked.

Ness didn't answer, looking at them. A phone rang.

Ness realized it was the phone she had taken from Kate earlier, answering it, putting it on speakerphone. "Well, I'll give you one thing. Pretty damned good at getaways."

Kate's voice was on the other line. "Yeah. Well, I decided that living was better than being dead."

"For what it's worth, thank you," Sam told her. "At the end of the day, she was your sister."

Kate was in a phone booth at the side of the road. "No. She wasn't."

"Listen, to me, Kate," Dean told her. "You keep moving, keep your nose clean, and we can stop meeting like this."

"I hear you," Kate told them. "And I will, but I'm not gonna promise, 'cause..."

"Yeah," Catty told her. "See you around, kid."

"I sure as hell hope not," Kate told them.

Ness hung up. She hesitated, sighing, looking at them.  "Let's say you're right."

"About what?" Catty asked.

"Everything," Ness answered. "Maybe I'm not ready to hunt. But I am just trying to do the right thing, 'cause I'm so sick and tired of doing the wrong one."
